Oh my goodness, I'm SO glad you said that about the pub being a reading venue/dining. Every time I went for lunch on my Transatlantic, I would get SO annoyed at the number of people just sitting there killing the day - I had to stand up at the bar to eat my curry.
I couldn't agree more with moving people along, but I'm not convinced that the clientele would entertain that without causing a riot... Ha!

It is very frustrating. LOL could be tricky, but if they stated that it was an eating venue during this time, pretty sure most people would understand!

Carole and Paul, by way of explanation, the Britannia Restaurant on QM2 was specifically placed between “C” and “D” staircases so that it would be at the location of least pitching motion for the comfort of diners -especially welcome on stormy crossings! Also, with the high capacity of the room in mind, it was important to allow entry from both forward and aft ends (the two stair lobbies). Due to the number of seats required, the restaurant had to extend the full width of the ship, making it difficult to provide access to the Queens Room located behind the “D” staircase. Adding a corridor through the restaurant would have compromised the window views from Deck 3 level of the restaurant. To minimise through passageway, the solution was to incorporate the starboard side lower access corridor (Art Gallery), made possible by the increased deck heights on QM2. In the original design, the portside gallery was also used for this purpose, and this is where the photo displays were situated, but single berth cabins have now been added there and the photos moved opposite the Golden Lion.
    I enjoy your channel.

At 15:00, the Dixieland jazz is sometimes called "hot jazz" as distinct from "cool jazz." Hot jazz features more brass instruments and has its roots in New Orleans (as opposed to cool jazz often associated with Chicago).

Excellent vlog. The seas looked calm. Paul ...I would have joined you with your rant about the Golden Lion and agree about the rubbish so called artwork.. Carole - I agree .. cream first then jam on scone. (if you make a jam sandwich . it's the unsalted butter first and then the jam it is the same with toast). Paul .. Got to the jazz section and, yes, Paul, the drummer is holding his sticks correctly! Would not surprise me if he is ex-military trained musician. If you look, all military drummers do likewise. My dad was a drummer in a 40's/50's dance band and photos show holding them correctly too. It must be in the blood cos my son used to be in a marching band and was taught drumming by ex-Royal Marine bandsman. Funny how little details like this can stand out when you watch something. The Atlantic averages 7000m to 8000m depth rather than 700m which Carole mentioned after the Captain's midday announcement. The North Sea is a much more shallow 700m so that would make sense. I just completed this transatlantic, interestingly I found a huge lack of space to read and relax. The library had about two dozen seats, and there are seats along the walkway towards Illuminations. Too cold and wet outside since it is winter. But everywhere else on the ship is a bar with music, people talking & drinking. I am certainly in the minority in that I don't drink and wanted my trip to be a quiet relaxing trip, and I'm sorry one of us readers kept you from lunch!

Here is what our friends at Google 😆 have to say " “Devon method” is putting your clotted cream on first and covering that up with jam whereas the “Cornish method” involves spreading your scone with strawberry jam and then topping that layer with clotted cream" so no bickering kids.

The dog was wearing a 'service dog' harness - these beasties are not confined to the kennels, but travel with the people they are providing a service. This is a level below 'guide dog' but service dogs can be somewhere between useful and vital [our Beagle is trained as a 'diabetic dog' reacting to out of control blood sugar levels - she is elderly and does not travel with us]. Back in 2019 I noticed the service dogs had a restroom facility on deck 1, in the tender lounge across from the medical center.

    Re: Art galleries on ships.
This is a long response sorry but it hits a raw nerve with me.
I'm an artist for a living and have to say I NEVER bother looking at the art galleries on ships. I'm not going to comment on the standard of work except to say if someone will pay money for poor quality art, more fool them.
However more importantly, the art is controlled very tightly on ships (and high street galleries too) by a few very publishing houses (for prints), you'll rarely if ever see an original in a ships gallery BUT more importantly you will pay a large premium buying on a ship and remember you'll need to pay import duty and tax on arrival in your home country. (Of course they tell you it's free shipping etc....) But will neglect to mention import duty & tax which is dependant on your country of residency and can be a substantial sum depending on the price paid.
If someone wants to buy a painting my advice is by all means go to a high street gallery (much as I loath them and the people who work in them who know nothing about art), find what kind of stuff you like, if you see anything you fancy, note the artists name and approach the artist directly NOT via a gallery, some will be under strict contract to a gallery but more likely than not they will sell direct if they can. Commission paid by the artist in a gallery is usually 40% to 60% !!
Better still look out for independent artists selling direct (as I do), check art fair listing and artists posting to social media content of their work (follow a few on media, costs nothing!) a much better way to support an artist and interact initially.
Far better to have a snoop online and find an artist who floats your boat and buy direct. (Avoid prints of possible as they will never compare in value long term to an original, goes without saying).
Meantime, I've reserved that LOVELY painting you adored so much on board. 😂
    Vik 👍

Cheers Vik, your comment is a real eye opener, As a salesmen I know everyone has to earn a crust but to take 60% is pretty scandalous. Golden Lion is a pub not a restaurant. We don't do pubs or buffets but shouldn't people be allowed to do what folk do in pubs? You're surely joking with that hat? In the 1920s gentlemen at a formal evening did not wear hats of any sort, let alone gangster style.

      @davidhouston3946 Рік тому

@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravelOn the contrary, we had two in our round trip. One should have been masquerade but Cunard decided to suspend that as covid masks were still a thing. It's a popular misconception that roaring 20s is about gangsters. It's about flappers, generally rich ladies in the 1920s who may have dressed elegantly in beaded dresses with fringes and wore tasteful headgear. The gents would simply have dressed in dinner suits to complement their companions. You would have fitted the bill fine without the plastic hat. The gala evening is supposed to be refined rather than tacky. Admittedly Cunard could make this much clearer.
