Greg, as a First Responder / Remote Pilot / Instructor, here's my thought on the challenge of operating in a GPS denied and dark environment; As soon as I first saw this aircraft, I started contemplating how to approach the installation of auxiliary lighting. That will be tricky business on such a small aircraft, but in addition to improving image capture, it would improve navigation. I'm hoping that somebody smarter than me will develop a lightweight lighting package to cover the full field of view of the camera/gimbal without unbalancing the aircraft or impeding airflow through the nacelles. (Bonus points if it can be remotely toggled on and off.)
@clocksurfer and @PilotInstitute ... You know those sticky light strips that people put in studios and around their TV? I wonder if that could be used to stick to the sides of the drone, or underneath, and powered by a watch battery with an on/off button? It would be low weight and provide a lot of light. Some of those light strips can be segmented, so maybe it's possible?
Awesome, straight to the point review. I was going to get the original Avata but the improvements to the new one makes it a easy decision to purchase the Avata 2! This will be my first time flying FPV. The one complaint about the GPS is disturbing but hopefully DJI can fix it with a firmware update. Keep up the great content Pilot Institute!!!
Wow!! That's a first. After seeing so much reviews after its release, it's only you who saw this flaw on the upgraded version of the Avata. We appreciate that a lot!
I'd say give Firehouse Technology a week or three and they'll have the best you're going to get on the market. I imagine they've just been waiting to get their hands on one.
Thanks a lot Greg! I hope they do a firmware update to use the new goggles with older equipment. At the minimum make them work with the current 03 FPV camera system.
I did have the GPS switch ACRO happen to me in a dimly lit hallway. It was right on the edge so it just went jittery, hit the wall and then recovered. I didn’t know exactly what happened until I saw this video?
Not sure why people make it sound like the original Avata doesn’t go backwards? It does with the motion controller 2!! You don’t have to use head tracking either to go backwards!
I use my motion controller 85% of the time. I wish my Avata 1 motion controller could do the flip and roll ! Fingers crossed that "maybe" DJI could come up with some kind of firmware update to allow that, or make the new motion controller work with Avata 1, c'mon, there are cheapie drones out there that can do it ! The slot for the SD card was a much needed fix. The only other thing that's interesting to me is the pass through cameras on the goggles. I "probably" won't buy one.
HI, Greg. Have you heard anything regarding the ability of repairing the drone like we can do the OG Avata? That was a nice plus with the original Gangsta Avata! Love these videos Greg! I always learn so much from them. I ordered the new Avata 2 and looking to get aquatinted with it. DJI in this new upgraded Avata shows that the really listened to so many of us, plus some!
Unfortunately you missed comparing the MC3 to the MC2 with has many of the features the useless MC1 does not have. Most Avata 1 flyers have the MC2. Still, MC3 is an improvement.
What about the problem that we're all facing with DJI and the government trying to take control of everything? Why would a lot of people invest in something that we might not be able to use?I'm a big d j I fan but it's troubling knowing about that
Ok, literally no Avata 2 review is talking about the big problem with the first one and the Googles 2. The corners were smeared where all your info is. I returned my Avata only because of that reason. To see the corners properly you had to push the glasses into your face which made the actual lens touching your eyelashes, the most uncomfortable "VR" thing I've ever experienced.
i brought that point up to another youtuber when the leaked photos came out. after many back n fourths.. it seems like the only way to get around that is to have clear goggles you can actually see thru with a projected image of your flight on the wall of the clear goggles.. then at that point your eyes are not being aided by anything to be visually observing the drone itself.
Whoa whoa whoa you definitely need to find out more information about this Avata going in the manual mode what happens if you're using the motion controller you're the only one that's mentioned this and I'm glad you have I just purchased it I had the avata one and I can't wait to get this one but I need to know more about the flying in the dark manual mode???
Great warning about the GPS to Acro mode automatically switching in loss of signal events. I haven't seen any other early reviewers mention that important tip yet, thanks!
The original avata looks like its worth what DJI asked for it. The avata 2 looks like a toy with a few minor upgrades. Im probably going to get one because my girlfriend steals my avata all the time lol.
The new controller is basically useless to lefties, basically knaps the brand new feature of automatic rolls because you won’t be able to use it while flying
It's a little scary that it switches to acro mode right away with a combination of light and GPS loss. Why doesn't it just switch to attitude mode similar to other drones? I guess if you're proficient in acro mode it's not a big deal. But that's one nasty surprise for somebody who isn't yet trained in Acro
Nobody has mentioned that avata 1 v 2 you dont see the bracekets on the sides of the camera anymore it seems. Mine is still in the mail so I can't confirm this but it was very noticible on the avata 1
I bought the entire Explorer Combo and Fly More kit for the AVATA 1 last week, I haven't unboxed a thing and decided today to send EVERYTHING BACK... including ND filters and extra props to purchase the NEW AVATA 2. 😂😂😂 CHEERS! 🍻
I would assume it’s ID Remote compliant. I didn’t hear that mentioned but I only listened once. Also…sounds like flying inside is not foolproof. I was wanting this drone until flying inside is iffy. I’ll need to see what others have to say. Overall, review is an over the top production…nice job.
Compare to Integra Goggles and Motion Controller 2 please. I'm considering that upgrade but a lot of the things you mentioned aren't different between this and that.
If the GPS thing he mentioned in the video is true, you may have to fly full acro indoors? If that's the case, then this wouldn't be a huge advantage over a normal cinewhoop
@@OranJuno I'm flying with A2 indoors without GPS without any issues in the NORMAL mode. I would say it handles indoor better than A1. Have not experienced any weird switching so far

Lights should be easy to design for it. There are screw holes at the top. 3D printer for the win.
@@PilotInstitute I'm excited about this one.

8:16 sold. Best feature you've shown ao far.
Thanks for showing it flying indoors.
You talked about noise levels several times but I don't think there was a single clip where we actually got to hear the Avata 2 in flight.
Secret. You are not allowed to hear. They are not allowed to talk bad things about the product.
Most comprehensive review yet, of course it helps when Greg giving it. Can't wait to get started with this drone.

No fpv manual testing??
Great review. The best I have seen so far.
Hi guys, thanks for the review!
Are your clips going through the tight spaces done in Manual mode?
How does it handle it in windy conditions?
Thanks a lot Greg! I hope they do a firmware update to use the new goggles with older equipment. At the minimum make them work with the current 03 FPV camera system.
Nice video, thanks
Did DJI fix the GPS drop to Acro mode yet?!

Why no actual noise comparison? Left us on a huge cliffhanger there. Also I think 4D just means 4 directional, like the d-pad on a gaming controller.
What do you mean?
@@PilotInstitute Unless I completely missed it, there was no footage with audio of this drone to compare against the Avata 1.
Hard to compare audio like that. We showed the audio numbers we measured instead.
even it doesn't fit and not allowed... can I force use my glasses in the googles?

The GPS/ACRO issue sounds like a problem when using for real estate, indoors 😏. Hopefully it will get fixed.
Can't wait to see it at NAB next week.
you didnt mention you can plug the goggles in while using if the battery gets low !
Nice video. Makes me want to buy this unit.
Thank you for bringing up the lack of FAA categorization. I think DJI missed the mark by not getting it categorized.
Great review!
Great video. Happy to subscribe. =)
Have you tested how it handles high winds F5 or F6?
Nice video guys
Is this drone Remote ID equipt

And AR in drone goggles is a pointless upgrade. Those are the goggles 2 with a few cameras added.
What is the max speed on sport mode 🧐 Hopefully DJI upgrade to a powerful motor because the previous version was too slow
I wonder if it can reach up to 60mph in sport mode and 90 mph in manual 🧐🤨
@@charlemiami suppose to be only up to 60 from what i hear unless you install new motors..lol

There is no real vr feel and you see the corners well. It's like looking at a TV in a dark room.
Vr is 3d, periferal vision and 6 degree movements.
I dont think the FAA will be like you dont need a VO now lol. Which is what 99% of the people buying them say will be the case lol.

Definitely requires a VO. FOV is too limited.
Those are not VR goggles, so no, you dont actually have virtual reality. Or even augmented reality. What you have is video pass through lol.
Nobody said you have virtual reality with those…
way too expensive wayyyyyy too expensive ! lol like i gues it worth like 500$ cuz its noice but not 900$ lmao .....not even 600 $ cuz is to much ...
