avata 2 is the first dji drone I bought on day 1! excited to get started!
So how's it going?
Great video! Receiving mine today, so this info was very helpful
The timing of the video's arrival couldn't be more perfect. After placing my order on 4/11/24, it's scheduled to be delivered on 4/13/24. Opting for the combo, I secured the pistol-type controller, alongside ordering the FPV Remote Controller for future use once I've mastered manual mode (exclusively available with the PFV Controller 3). While aware of the compatibility of the controller and goggles with the Air 3 and Mini 4 Pro, I'm curious about the possibility of using one of their controllers without compromising functionality. Despite their compatibility, I wonder if any features would be lost when used with the Avata 2. All devices are OC4, explaining their interoperability with the Avata 2 and goggles on the Air 3 and Mini 4 Pro.
Thanks Greg, you always do a great job and I'm always impressed at how busy you stay creating great content!
Abner
GREAT tutorial, THANKS...!!!!
Excelente review.
Thank you great , video and great job on explaining how to use the Avata 2!..
Great video, thank you!
Awesome video👍🏻. Thanks so much for explaining everything so easily. I feel way much better and safe for my first flight. This is the best video for beginners.
BTW thanks for the stickers with contact info. I got them awhile ago for my mini 3 pro.
Passed P107 today (thanks PI), ordering this tomorrow...for recreation of course...for now.
Picked up the Avata 2 and I’m reviewing every piece of information before flight #1. As always, I find useful information from Greg :)
well Explained
Just ordered mine. First fpv drone. Can the motion controller do half rolls? Like fly over a high object and do a half roll to a downward flight. Kinda like how top gun Flys over the mountains and flips upside down at the top to go down into where they drop the bomb? Sorry I don't know the technical term lol
I came across your UA-cam videos and watch your Avata 2 video. I currently have the original Avata and I have to connect my phone to the goggles 2 to fly with DJI and assume remote ID features. I notice you do not need to do that with the Avata 2. Again assume the remote ID features are built into the goggles? That makes it less cumbersome if this is true. Can you please comment - thanks for all you are doing for the industry.
I have a Mini 4 Pro, and WAS interested in the Avata(1). Thought of getting the goggles/controller for the Mini 4 Pro to get the FPV feel of flying before getting a Avata. Does flying FPV ALWAYS require another observer? What about being alone in the country away from it all? With the improvements, I’d like the Avata 2 even more, but have to work out the goggles things first. Thanks
hey Greg, in maximum distance we should put it fixed at 500 meters or 1,640ft taking into account that it would be how far I can see the drone?
Can i record downward while i am flying horizontally like a normal drone does? Let’s say i want to record the roof of a house or a nice garden from above flying like you will do with any other dji mini drone ? Or it is strictly fpv only?
GREAT BROTHER COMING SOON👍👍👍
Hi Greg,
Have you had any issues with one of the cameras not working. Been watching Ian (Mads Tech) on his live broadcast and for whatever reason one of his cameras are not working. I wondered if others were having a similar issue?
Does it support mode 4 flight controls? Last one didn't and had no custom mode.
Can you customise the controls on the RC3 please? So flip sticks and inverted controls etc?
Is that Matt's Offroad Recovery in the background at 3:28? LOL
Awesome video Greg, So do you still need a second person with you to fly that drone? Or does the pass thru cameras on the goggles satisfy.
Yes you do.
So....to use the googles you need the handheld controller....which is now sold separately? Items sold as a kit for goggles one and goggles 2.....but now...the needed components for actual use are now sold individually on the DJI website....unless you buy the whole avata 2 fly more kits.....was this to keep the goggles price to appear lower ?
@9:48 .. not true - you actually can charge the battery through that usb-c port on the drone.
Is it possible to do the easy acros while recording?
Yes, absolutely.
I am waiting my single battery avata 2 drone !!! I have one question , can I change the drones battery, goggles and the motion controller with iPhones 30 watt charger or even MacBook 90 watt charger ?
Yes
how to delete the message " aircraft warning zone fly with caution" all time on screen
did you use any ND filter on this?
can you charge avata 2 batteries on a 70 watt apple charger?
Yes
Outstanding video I've watched quite a few since I've ordered my Avata two.. is there any way you can show us a video on how to take the goggles 3 in motion controller 3 and install the DJI flight simulator?
My Avata 2 safety settings screen does not appear to scroll down past the Calibrations. I'm unable to get to "ESC Beeping" or "Advanced Safety Setting". Am I doing it wrong or could it be my firmware. I've upgraded to latest version. I definitely don't want Aircraft signal loss set to "Hover". Yikes!
Okay, NVM it was me
How do you turn "easy acro" off ?
My easy acro is not showing what to do? Please help…
Do you need to keep the goggles plugged in to your phone for the remote id stuff?
Not on the avata 2.
Hey Greg, can’t help but notice a very slight accent in ur voice. Am I wrong ?
My avata 2 doesnt have acro mode. Everyone says just access it through that top menu but it isnt there. do I need something unlocked/activated first?
There are two modes: easy acro, which is only available with the motion controller. And full acro, which needs to be setup in the settings first. Look for tutorials for the original avata, it’s the same procedure.
@PilotInstitute ok I'll try that.
@@PilotInstitute do i have to buy controller 3 to turn it on? I have DJI RC Motion 3 that came with it.
You cannot do full acro with the motion controller.
i dont have the easy acro option on my avata 2
My drone doesn’t hold position indoors, it keeps drifting forward, I have to hold reverse
Thank you, thank you. Looked all over to find how to click on a menu item using the MC selection tool. Thought it was just to depress the accelerator and the item would be selected. Tried this in the air while paused and couldn’t select anything. It was an ‘aha!’ moment when you showed that stub on the end of the accelerator and just depressing it to the first detent. (yes, I hate wading thru manuals to find simple things) THANK YOU!
So to be clear... flying an Avata for part 107 will always require a visual observer when you have the goggles on?
Yes.
@@PilotInstitute Thanks. I think that is a piece of information that seems to be lacking in almost every video for the Avata and most videos don't appear to have a visual observer.
Double tapping the side doesn't seem to work for me..PIP only works if I hit the button on the remote, not sure why.
You're double tapping the right side in the middle of the goggles?
Mine is hit or miss. I've only flown it twice so far, but noticed I have to find "that spot" to switch my view. Love the drone besides fighting with that.
Why did you not tell beginner to use the headtracking to land? Line up, then look straight down. Then you can perfectly see if you are line up without having to take the goggles of or use the passthrough!
I watched your review but did you notice how the Avata 2 vertical speed as shown in the goggles is always a positive value, regardless of whether the aircraft is climbing or descending?
It really adds nothing to do it like this - basically makes the vertical speed indicator a waste of space.
It's inconsistent with DJI's camera drones which sensibly (and correctly as far as I'm concerned!) show a negative value when the drone is descending and positive when climbing.
It's also inconsistent with DJI's very own Virtual Flight app which is supposed to be used to train prospective FPV pilots as that also shows a descending aircraft as having a negative vertical speed.
To top things off, if you play back a flight log in the DJI Fly app it also shows a negative value when the aircraft is descending (even though it showed as a positive value during the flight in the goggles).
Finally I'd also wager that not a single manned powered real-world aircraft has a VSI that intentionally shows a climb and descent in such an ambiguous way!
Some might say "so what" and "who cares" but the vertical speed value will be much more useful if it sensibly showed descent with a negative value and a positive value when climbing.
I fully understand that a majority of the time when flying in manual mode the camera view is all that is needed to see what is going on rather than relying on telemetry.
However there are times (especially in manual mode perhaps doing certain aerobatic moves), when the pilot might have have the aircraft/camera pointed up at the sky or not have the usual visual cues to rely on for vertical speed for some other reason and when that happens a quick glance to see a positive or negative value for the vertical speed is much more useful that having to try to interpret an ambiguous (always positive) value or look at the height value for a longer period to figure things out!
DJI don't seem to care. Maybe you can make them listen?!
I just checked and you are right! It should be a up arrow and everything in green while going up. And down arrow and everything in red while going down.
Good information... quite informative..... one comment on your use of two cameras during your talking... the cut to camera 2 from the side view of almost the same framing is not necessary, somewhat distracting and you lose eye contact with the camera you are looking at.... it would have been better to use camera 2 for live closeups of what is in your hand..... the close up shots you do use do not match your arms.... sorry to be critical, but this is coming from a long time professional videographer and editor.... you're not the only youtuber doing this misuse of the second camera, unless you are trying to show off the fact that you are suing two cameras..... regards..... Ron
So nice when USA was a free country.
That looks like Prescott's Dells
It certainly is!
it's adisgrace how they force people to buy it with the limiting motion controller, and to use it with a proper controller, you have to pay extra! That alone has stopped me from buying this drone.
Seems like a lot of reviewers are opening the box and flying without first registering or even mentiong registering with teh FAA.
😮 Oh my goodness... Call the police... If this goes on everyone will die....mmm immediately. Do something 😵😵😵
Ours was registered.
@@PilotInstitute I know you are up to snuff. But I wonder about all these other people on UA-cam.
The footage, considering a 1k pricetag is not actually that great. I see many artifacts, digital noise, some whitebalance or exposure shifts... Like one if have my honor 90 stairs on a drone. Maybe that's down to UA-cam compression?
Probably also the lack of nd filter and full auto video mode. Also, lack of d-log usage and post production.
🥱
Your point about USB port cannot be used as a battery charger is not correct. You can charge the battery using the USB port. How else you expect the single battery owners to charge the battery. Don’t confuse the users. 🙏
I came here to comment the same thing. You can 100% charge in the USB port I'm doing it right now. I'm charging one battery in the drone and the others are in the smart hub until my 65 watt charger arrives.
No you can't
That’s not true. You can now charge the installed battery directly from the usb port on the drone.
But should u ? 🤔
this is correct!
if you buy the basic kit there is no way to charge the battery other than thru the drone. because it doesn't include the battery charging cradle. very much similar to the Air3
I just bought one of these yesterday...now I'm getting more and more concerned that our idiots in congress might actually pass the current bill banning dji drones and basically making it a $1200 paperweight which I can't afford. If you are not aware of this bill, you need to do some research and write your congressional representatives. The current bill would affect everyone, not just commercial or government users.
I just bought this today, any updates?
Several fact is wrong... you can charge it from usb... and your explaination on the control movement was not right.
Looking forward to your review.
@@PilotInstitute Also did you even say anything about headtracking? Headtracking is essential for beginners. It allows them to just hold the drone completely and look 360 degrees to make sure there is nothing closely below, above or behind.
way too expensive wayyyyyy too expensive ! lol like i gues it worth like 500$ cuz its noice but not 900$ lmao .....not even 600 $ cuz is to much ...
......... lmao
Just get some carbon...
Great... And after 4 flights it's gonna end up on the same shelf as the Avata One and the DJI FPV drone... It's overpriced, under motorized like the first one. Save your money and buy a real FPV drone instead.
Any brands you recommend to buy a real FPV from?
Regulations for everything. Can't flu a drine 5 feet unless you get gov approval
Not a DJI...
