Beautiful sign! A little deceiving though -- this sign is not under 20$. The sticker alone is 27$, plus wood, stain, and other material. If you don't have a circuit than it's another 320$! Oh well!
Hi Sabrina! Thank you for your comment! I def suggest not to buy all these materials for the purposes of making this one sign, especially if you are new in the vinyl cutting world. I don’t want anyone driving themselves crazy trying to learn how to Cricut a week out from their wedding! But for those who have a cutting machine, this sign cost under $20 to make (app. $2 in vinyl, $2 in transfer tape, $12 for the wood, under $1 in stain and paint). The machine is definitely an investment but has more than paid for itself in the projects I’ve DIY’ed 😊
I've been tasked to make a similar sign. I thought I was just going to use the vinyl and put that on the sign. I didn't think to make a stencil and just paint it. You can't tell the difference between the two ways. Great job!
Thank you so much! For rental signs, I use the vinyl so I can reuse whatever material its on over and over. Great for short term. For the keepsake signs I like to paint since it holds up better in the long run. You really cant tell a difference, especially in professional wedding photos!
Great video. I prefer paint rather than vinyl but i want to seal them to make them more durable, I find polycrylic tends to yellows them. Is there anything else I could use to seal them. Thanks
I'm sure youve probably answered this before, but why dont you just cut the vinyl letters/design out and the polyacrylic over that? instead of the extra steps of stencil/paint etc? Thanks! Your projects look great!
Hi Brandon! For my rentals I use a blank stained board with the vinyl decal so I can reuse them, but for keepsake pieces like this I use paint so it will hold up as long as they have it! Thank you for the kind words!
Super helpful! No-one tells you how to make the welcome sign and what font! Sorry if you've answered this, but how do you add Tails? do you get it once you download the font? XX
Hi! Some fonts come with tails, some dont. I'm working on a video with my favorites for welcome signs, all including tails! I'll link it when it its live 😀
Hi Carly! Thanks for this awesome video, I'm really enjoying your channel and find it super helpful. How do you decide whether you're going to paint your letters out using the vinyl as a stencil vs using the vinyl itself for the wording? Do you give your clients both options and let them decide or is it according to the base material?
Hi Masuma! I just replied to your question on another video, but will leave it here as well in case anyone else is wondering :) I'm pretty much only working with vinyl now, since it is so much easier and looks nicer than stencil+paint in my opinion! I was giving my clients the option to choose for awhile, but everyone was going with the vinyl anyway. Hope that helps!
How long does this sign last in terms of the knots? I'm being told that I shouldn't be using anything on it until I've used knotting solution or sealed or drilled out the knots first? Confused!
Try this method if your worried about knots! This is actually what I do for most signs now since I can make different sizes: ua-cam.com/video/sRfDb2JLOzM/v-deo.html
I reapply stain with a tiny brush where needed! Try applying a polycrylic after you lay your stencil and before you paint...may help with the bleeding like I did in this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/fA0oh06ErEg/v-deo.html You can always use vinyl for the lettering if you are still having issues! Check out some of my latest videos for vinyl on wood :)
This is an intermediate technically permanent vinyl but can easily be removed without leaving residue. There are also lower grades of Oracal you can try if you are worried!
I have a cricut can you provide the size you used for the welcome font as well as the names? How many squares do I need them to take up, etc! I’m so excited to try this it’s beautiful!
I can not find those boards at any of the lowes around me. It is the perfect size for what I need and the only other I could find was a different brand 1x24x36 and that is to big.
Just by taking my time and using the makeup sponge! If your paint is bleeding, try adding a sealer to the piece before you paint like I did in this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/fA0oh06ErEg/v-deo.html

Great video.

I find polycrylic tends to yellows them. Is there anything else I could use to seal them.
Thanks
Thank you! Polycrylic is water-based and shouldn't yellow...oil based polyurethane 100% will though. Are you maybe using polyurethane instead?
Love this! Will be making for my daughter’s wedding. How many inches high is the Welcome and name/date?
Thank you Cheryl! The "L" in the welcome is about 5.3" tall and each line on the name/date portion are about an 1"
I don't see where the video is that you show how to make the Welcome stencil...I am struggling with this part

Carly Keller can’t wait 🤗🤗🤗
What are the dimensions of the wood?

Is anyone else having trouble finding these wood boards?? I went to Lowes & home depot and could not find this!
Try this! ua-cam.com/video/sRfDb2JLOzM/v-deo.html
What are the dimensions of this sign? I’m trying to figure out how big to make mine for my own wedding!
Hi! Its an 18x24" :) Congrats to you!!
Do you need to sand these boards before staining?? I’m so happy I found your channel, planning on a lot of DIYs for my wedding!
Its more of a preference sanding or not! It does help the stain settle though

Can you make this stencil using a cricut explore 2?
Yes, you can!
i’m having a hard time with the paint bleeding a lot. is there anything you recommend with preventing as much of a bleed under the stencil?
Hi Aly I sometimes add a protective sealer once the stencil is down. Then adding paint on top of that. Hope that helps!
Do you know if you can do this using the explore air 2 ? Or just the maker?
Hi Elaine! You can do the same on the Air 2 :)
Do I need a Cricut Maker to make this sign at this size or can I do it with the Explorer?
I believe so! I've made large signs with my previous machine, the Air 2.
Nice video, what is the name of the font you used for “ welcome “
Thank you! Its liked in the video description :)
Is there an alternative location besides Lowe’s where you would purchase the wood :( my Lowe’s doesn’t have it !
Check out this video where I use a birch plywood piece and cut it to size! ua-cam.com/video/sRfDb2JLOzM/v-deo.html
Hi! Thanks for this vid!! Can I use a chalk board marker to letter?
How do you fix the wood if some peeled? Also, mine bled pretty bad
I reapply stain with a tiny brush where needed! Try applying a polycrylic after you lay your stencil and before you paint...may help with the bleeding like I did in this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/fA0oh06ErEg/v-deo.html
You can always use vinyl for the lettering if you are still having issues! Check out some of my latest videos for vinyl on wood :)
Very nice 👍🏻 thanks for sharing
Thank you so much!!
How do you break up the welcome on cricut design like you did in the video
Check out this video! Working with larger than mat projects:

What fonts did you use?!
Hi Maddy! Check out my recent video with my favorite welcome sign fonts!!
Did you use removable or permanent vinyl? I am so scared to put permanent and have trouble removing it lol
This is an intermediate technically permanent vinyl but can easily be removed without leaving residue. There are also lower grades of Oracal you can try if you are worried!
What were the dimensions for the wooden sign ?
24 x 18"
I have a cricut can you provide the size you used for the welcome font as well as the names? How many squares do I need them to take up, etc! I’m so excited to try this it’s beautiful!
Hi Melanie! The Welcome is about 20" wide without the tails and the date is about 11" wide. This is on a 24" wide board. Hope that helps!
Carly Keller so much! Thank you :)
Would you mind sharing the fonts you used? I get to make one of these for a client! Your tutorial was so helpful! Thank you!
The fonts are in the video description :)
I can not find those boards at any of the lowes around me. It is the perfect size for what I need and the only other I could find was a different brand 1x24x36 and that is to big.
Most of their lumber boards (not wrapped in plastic) can be cut to size. Just ask one of the team members :)
Thank you for this DIY 💞
Of course!!
Where did you buy the stand to put the sign on!?
This one is from Hobby Lobby, purchased a few years ago. Hope that helps!
I dont have a circuit maker 😭😭😭 but very cool!!!!
There are many different Cricut models. I hope one of them in is your future!
Which machine do you have?
The Cricut Maker :)
How did the paint not bleed?😅
Just by taking my time and using the makeup sponge! If your paint is bleeding, try adding a sealer to the piece before you paint like I did in this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/fA0oh06ErEg/v-deo.html
What’s the measure for the wood
18x24"
What font did you use for this project?
Following
The fonts are linked in the video description! :)
Is it can be removed?
No, not the paint unless you sand/strip the entire piece
Can you reuse the stencils?
I've never tried because they stretch out when pulling off the wood
This is amazing! Can you please tell me the dimensions of the wood? Thank you so much.
Thank you! Its an 18x24"
Thank you so much! Was it precut? I looked at my lowe’s and the guy thought I was a nut case. 😂😂
can I do this with the cricut explore air?
Yes, you can!
I’m also wondering how to add tails! Do you have a video on this yet?
Check out this tutorial! ua-cam.com/video/6MpcL4Lh3sM/v-deo.html
Where do you buy your wood?
This piece was from Home Depot!
How do you add the tails onto this font?
Check out this video :) ua-cam.com/video/6MpcL4Lh3sM/v-deo.html
What was the font u used??
Hi Ada! The fonts are linked in the video description :)
Nice sign!
Thank you so much!
