Thank you, Scott! R 18 riders have been waiting a long time to get this info. Very nicely done. Now... a big WARNING to all... Remember that THERE ARE TWO TDCs! Please note that you once you find the mark of TDC from the viewing window, that you then have to figure out if that is the LEFT cylinder or the RIGHT. If you can jiggle the rockers, you found it -- 50/50 chance! Notice how Scott is able to wiggle the rockers at 17:15? That's the TDC you are looking for.
Scott showed us @ 16:54 that "The Compression TDC stroke will need to be cycled for each cylinder-head separately…" and he verbally mentioned this at 17:44 and 19:29. This has to do with VALVE OVERLAP. Remember, one TDC is a Compression stroke with both valves COMPLETELY closed. The other TDC is at the end of the Exhaust stroke where the Intake valve is just beginning to open, that is, the Exhaust and Intake valves are both open (not fully) at the same time = this is VALVE OVERLAP. You cannot adjust your valves at this position because there is ZERO clearance and the rockers should not jiggle.

Good Point..!! Being able to rotate the rear wheel is key when performing the valve adjustment job.

Like the fact that BMW went with the adjustable valves, unlike with my 2018 GSA that uses shims.

Great video! I just did my valves adjustments. Left had no tolerance while the right was 0.381. brought both to 0.2 but now the bike makes a clicking noise

Since you’ve done all of the hard work for us, how do we get a copy of your book?

Well done, Scott! I just bought a 2021 R18 Classic for what I consider to be a song. It has a little over 6K miles, so this great video will come in handy. You have some shots of what appears to be the shop manual. Where did you find it? Thank you.

I set mine at .23 mm but I had a hell of a time to get the motor over TDC rear wheel would lock up solid.

You can use a 46 mm wrench on the final drive hex nut; lift up to turn the wheel in the direction of travel.

One of the myriad reasons to buy a BMW motorcycle. Now I have to ask on the adjustment… The nut on top of the rocker arm is where you bring it in closer on top of the valve?? That rather darker square nut?? Thanks again for a very very informative video…! cheers from Arizona 🫡🇺🇸🌵

Pause the video at 19:39 min. and review the service book image. Use a 10 mm wrench to slacken the Lock Nut (3) slightly; using a Torx-15 on the Adjustment Screw (4), adjust the gap between the cap (2) and valve (1) via the Adjustment Screw (4); tighten the Lock Nut (3) at 8 Nm

Hi Scott, have got a couple of questions. I have this self same bike. How did you fit the Transcontinental auxiliary lights to the Bagger? The front turn-Signal lights are attached to a casting on the front forks. Did you remove them and just screw plugs into the holes? How did you attach the light mounting frame to the underside of the front fairing? You even managed to attach the Transcontinental wind-deflectors to the front forks. Lots of questions but I’ve been looking for a solution for fitting auxiliary lights since getting my Bagger in 2021. I‘m English but live in Germany. Even BMW can’t help me! Would be great to see a step-by-step video of how you managed all the above. Thanks 👍

Try the following link; where you can download the BMW installation document for the Top Fork Leg Covers i.e. Steering Head Screw = 130 Nm, Sealing End Cap Screws = 66 Nm & Fork Clamps = 19 Nm (3x):
