That 2-piece vertical slotted bracket design is horrible. You put this vehicle on a corrugated gravel / unsealed road with 100kg load on the rack, and the vibrations will have the rack slide down in no time. Love the flat mesh rack itself as these are by far the most useable racks for non-proprietary attachment systems for maximum flexibility, and it gives you the ability to stand on it. Now, if this is for looking cool and going to the mall in a 4Runner thats never seen dirt, should be good to go.
Can you do the basket roof rack, not much info out there about it. Want to see more about it. Deciding Ironman basket roof rack or gobi.
The installation for the alloy basket is exactly the same as the flat rack. They share the same base structure, basket just has the raised top rail.

Yes it will work on your 4Runner and be a nice foundation to mount a tent.
