    Hey Andrew, been watching a bunch of your videos recently and loving them, really impressed with how knowledgeable you seem to be with gliders and planes.
    I come from racing drones for a couple of years now and have just gotten (after a failed wing experience) my first plane, a Ranger 2000. Loving it, such an easy platform, but I’m struggling to diagnose flight characteristics.. it seems to not want to come back to level once you start banking to turn, it almost wants to pull itself over the wing and keep rolling, end up on full deflection to manhandle it back to level.
    Should I be looking at CG still? Or is this possibly something to do with not enough air speed?
    Thanks again for all of your videos, they’re helping a lot and very entertaining

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 років тому +1

      Thanks Cody. Strange, you should be able to fly with tiny little stick corrections. Where is your CG and how much movement do you have on the ailerons?

    • @Ilikemakingthings
      @Ilikemakingthings 5 років тому

      Andrew Newton cg is almost bang on the markings on the wing, I left it a touch more nose heavy as I’ve heard that is always safer than tail heavy, especially for beginners. Ailerons would have maybe 35 degrees of travel, I did think this seemed a little low, but since it’s such a large model and I’m planning some long range flights, I thought this might equate to a more stable and less touchy flight?
      Thanks for your help!

I am wondering if you qould have some bigger batteries in there whitout messing with the CG. And what flight time would that add up to. 60 min with a 10 000 mah battery? Andrew, do you have any theory as to why the Ranger 2400 costs almost twice as much as the Phoenix 2400? The Ranger would seem better suited as an FPV platform because of the motor location, but from a manufacturing standpoint there seems to be obvious reason why the Ranger is so much more expensive. Hopefully the price difference is not mainly attributable to the useless landing gear and tundra tires that everyone will be throwing in the trash anyway...

There seems to be an eBay seller out of Hong Kong offering it for a substantially higher price, but I hesitate to order it for fear of the same problems with customs.
    Looks like a Ranger 2400 is not in my future :-(
    I want something that can carry at least 1.2 to 1.5 kg of batteries and still have fairly short landing distances. (large wing area, flaps, etc)
    I guess I have to look elsewhere.

      @@AndrewNewton I'm in the US. I've been looking at some of the bulkier twin motor planes better suited to mapping like the X-UAV Clouds and Believer, but I still really like the simplicity, easy launch and slower landing capability of the Volantex Ranger series.
      I sent an email to Banggood asking them to stock it in a US warehouse. Of course, that's not going to happen for awhile.

    Sell the undercarriage...buy a new stool with the money! 7:51
    Looking forward to the first flight. Should thermal well.

    HD Camera between those undercarriage legs Andrew..?..so you dont molest that lovely canopy.
    C.A.R.....Coupled....Aileron.....Rudder.....On a switch for when manual flying, you will need it, guaranteed.
    Flight Controller won't need it for GPS Modes, it will use Aileron AND Rudder anyway.
    You dont have the G2 Ranger in that Family photo...?

    • @AndrewNewton

      Or A.R.M? Aileron Rudder Mixing? Anyway it definitely needs a CAR or an ARM. Yes I did forget the G2 for the photo, realised as soon as I put them all away.

    Dear friend,
    I have exactly that airplane: Still use the original motor and ESC, just changed the prop but same size, just APC style.
    I Have been running with 3s battery and flies good.
    I bought some " Lithium 35A 21700 3100mah" cells and after watching yours videos im thinking in making 4s battery packs. However, im afraid to overload the ESC or the motor and burn one or both (cause i have done a lot in the past) !!
    So, do you think its safe with this setup to run 4s pack?!
    Thanks
    Best regards
