      Problem is kickstarter are quite strict during approval of project, they would only approve projects which could actually be successful so ya 44 is good

    After raising $5,000 in only 8 hours, Griffin explains the process for setting up a Kickstarter campaign. Also, Indiegogo vs. Kickstarter, Russell meets Willem Dafoe and Kevin Spacey, and Moby wants you to use his music!

    I think there is a lot to be said about the mindset you have going into a crowdfunding campaign. Resilience, the willingness and ability to adapt, and an unwavering belief in the success of he project are super important. Half way through our campaign we had only raised about 6,000 out of 45,000. We decided to create a new video with some major changes and redoubled our campaigning efforts reaching out to schools to do presentations and radio shows that might get us some publicity. Its possible to come back!

    So, I've read and heard that the key to success is to pre-plan a "running start" of 10%-20% of your goal already committed from people you personally know before starting the campaign so that potential backers see that there are pledges, right away and can get a sense of the "crowd" side of crowdsourcing right off-the-bat. What are your findings with this?

  • @WinkyDink

    He said it's only pledged. Your backers aren't actually charged until you reach your goal. No one's scamming anyone ;)

  • @indymogul
    @indymogul  11 років тому +1

    It's actually never collected. It's "pledged." When a project finishes, cards are charged, but until then, it's only a promise of a payment.

  • @indymogul
    @indymogul  11 років тому

    Good question. I definitely saw pledges slow down after hitting my goal. You don't want to lowball your goal too much, because people assume you no longer need the support.

    Griffin,
    Mobygratis has been online for over 3 years. Moby just hasn't bragged about it till now. I've been using it for a lot of smaller projects. It's mostly his chill out collection, but some of it is still good.

  • @vdragos1
    @vdragos1 11 років тому

    When the campaign is over the cards of the backers are charged with what they pledged, if the goal is reached. If the goal is not reached (this isn't the case here) no money is transferred. It is a pretty simple and clean process.

    I have about four projects in mind, but I'm not sure if they meet the standards. The first is simple and I'm not sure if its even considered a "project" I'm trying to put myself through vocal school and was hoping to raise money in order to do so. The second is funds for a fine arts group that my sister and I are starting up. We are doing a lot with that, from putting on musicals, plays/dramas, and creating a bunch of other art forms, giving teens and young adults a place to express as well as nourish their creative talents. The funds would help to supply costumes, props, and other equipment needed. The third is to earn funds in order to purchase good animation equipment. I am an aspiring artist/writer/animator and hope to bring my productions to life, but without the resources I cannot bring those aspirations to life. And lastly, I am trying to put myself through colledge at Full Sail University (which is a school or the arts) so that I can get a proper education in the fields that I wish to pursue. Like I said, I'm not sure if those meet the proper standards, if not do you know of any good formats for those types of projects?

    What if I want to make the same project on kickstarter AND indiegogo (and maybe even self-starter) just to open my funding options to customers.
    Because what if some people trust Kickstarter since they've heard of it, and don't trust indiegogo since they haven't heard of it? Or vice versa.

    You should use BackerKit to ship the stuff out Griffin. Freddie Wong uses it for his Video Game High School Season 2 Kickstarter. It's very useful. It is a seperate application that takes the info and rewards you selected and integreates it, and it overall makes it easier to avoid issues. It also lets you change your address, but only up till the day the things start to ship out. Check out Freddie's words on it: kickstarter(dot)com/projects/freddiew/video-game-high-school-season-two/posts/524262

    What do you think of the idea of splitting the costs between both Kickstarter and Indigogo ( and maybe even Seed and Spark)? You could send your viewers and link on your facebook to a specific one (for example Kickstarter) while the other crowd funding websites would be for those who prefer and use them on a regular basis. There are certain aspects of each of these websites that I like but also some that I don't like. Your feedback is much appreciated!
