that line "Here - welcome to the fucking chorus"
Brilliant
how cool is this? create the music electronically, then learn to play the parts on instruments and then write fun and surprising lyrics. Great song and highly creative. Thanks for showing us your process.
This is maybe one of the most impressive things I've seen. I wish my mind worked that way instead I'll enjoy your creations :-)
As someone who has (unsuccessfully) tried to make music as a hobby... it's refreshing to see that it doesn't always come out perfect the first time through but takes persistence. Thanks to you I will keep it up! :)
Do you know what software he uses? I want to make music like this but I have no idea how or where to start
@no further west If you want to make music like jack, use pro tools. If you wanna be like every mainstream hip hop beat maker use Fl. If you wanna get really technical and process stuff like crazy use Ableton. I use Ableton but my music is very different than Jack's
Precisely
This is really really for from TS stuffs but he da same dude who made it all in the end
His creativity levels are off the charts. He's such a cool guy, letting everyone know, hey this is how I made it, you can do it to, fuck my shit up for all I care, have fun and learn / feel something. I only recently found the Bleachers a few months ago, and I feel robbed ha. I'm so glad hes doing things with huge artists now, I wouldn't want anyone else but him encouraging and guiding them.
This is magic
Pure wizardry
my exact thoughts
Yeah.
I wish he would make more of these videos
Do you know what software he uses? I want to make music like this but I have no idea how or where to start
@@nofurtherwest3474 its Ableton
@@rohitRraina how can I learn to make this kind of music? Thx
@@nofurtherwest3474 you need to start by learning music theory followed by learning a daw like Ableton or fl studio simultaneously listening and learning songs that you love .
1:38 Ooooh, so that's what that is. In a seperate interview I found out that he took voicemails and his sister's or someone's graduation speech to make the "I wanna be grateful for the experiences that I've had" and all that, so interesting but random.:)
TOOK ME SEVEN YEARS TO FIND THIS MASTERPIECE 😭
This is so cool. I love all your stuff for Bleachers, Lana, and Taylor, Jack and I think you’re one of the greatest producers of our generation. I hope to make music one day learning from clips like this cause music is what saved me from everything. Take care to whoever is reading this
Ok now I know why each song is so addictive- it’s the LAYERS!
The voice of his friend on the song is none other than Taylor Swift!
yo i just realize she mentions jack on a bunch of her voice memos in the 1989 special edition
I thought it was...
how do you know
Nah, I pitched it down. I think it might be MØ. Definitely not Taylor.
It's Lena you guys...
It's an honor to be alive at the same time as Jack Antonoff!
Ahhh. I remember hearing this for the first time, outside of a movie theatre, just playing off, echoing in the corner of those random ass speakers they have outside, and just falling in love with all of those seemingly random sounds, because it just sounded so unique from anything I had ever listened to up to that point in my life (which was whatever band people were throwing at me).
Fast forward a few years later and I never thought it would take me into the alternative scene (and just a point a self discovery for me, because I began to branch off and find the taste of music that I was inclined to explore). And then that one song just pulled me through the entire year (unbeknownst to me at the time). I also didn’t know I was gonna fall in love with the entire album and have that be a central theme of my life for years to come.... ahhhhh.... and now seeing how much went into it makes me realize that joyful inspiration I felt was just as much a part of the process as it was a final result. ❤️❤️❤️ I still have that album just sitting in my car’s CD player (yes it’s old, and yes it literally doesn’t leave that place- it’s like its home 😂 it lives there).
It just stays there. It’s my comfort zone. I know that whatever happens in my life, I just change the mode on my car stereo (I just remember, despite how horrible the breakdown is), and just drive and cry and vent and go trough every emotion humanly possible... and everything just always turns out okay.
It never fails. It’s a beautiful album. ❤️
As I am old-school....meaning around and playing instruments long before you, and midi was born, I am at a loss for words....to express to you that I AM AMAZED at how you could create this great piece of music that kinda started with your iPhone. Glad to see real instruments in this video. Your generation has different tools than I was brought up with, and you wield them like a Jedi. I won't be sending you back my tech-takes of your song, which I really love, but will eventually send you an audio/ video of me playing it live with a rock band, covering it into a set of my original music. Thanks for making this video. Thanks for creating this song. You have a new fan.
Have you checked out his new videos of how he made a few songs from his new album? He talks about playing real instruments and his thought process on conveying the emotions and meanings of the songs through those. Great videos.
The music is great of course - but I really enjoyed seeing you "in the zone" for such a long period of time. Passion like this is hard to find anywhere, and it's powerful when it's in your music. I'm impressed.
Do you know what software he uses? I want to make music like this but I have no idea how or where to start
That little snippet of Lena Dunham shouting "Go!" is so satisfying!
I could watch you work all day. I love how focused and in a zone you get.
that was the coolest thing i have ever seen
jack Antonoff is amazing and talented. Thank You for such beautiful music
Musical inclination is a rare thing indeed. Studies show that only 1 out of 100 babies born have a true musical gift. We all know Jack was one of them. I wish him and the Bleachers nothing but the finest.
Its amazing to hear all the layers of the song come together
I've watched this a million times and I get chills every damn time.
Creative mind, Jack. Wish I could do something like this!
The ONLY musician that I feel I can fully relate to thanks for being you dude you rock
And you don't even need the latest MacBook !!
Keep making these! Love to see how the songs are made!
Thank you for this video. This is one of my favorite songs in the last .....well, ever. :)
The suicidal ideation, the yearning, the compelling feeling of needing to share your anguish with someone, anyone .....the world. Wanting out of the hell that some of us, maybe all of us, go through ...wanting to get better.
Plus, it reminds me of the heartbreak I was experiencing at the time of it's release. So like the French in spirit, no matter what, you'll always be remembered for this even if you never write another song. You wrote this. A masterpiece of melancholy & inspiration.
I always wondered how you wrote the song. I didn't think you wrote it on guitar. When I went to investigate it I somehow missed this video. So this is cool. I used to create song in that sort of way. Chasing that abstract thing you feel in a sound or a beat ....

Thanks for putting this up! It's so interesting!
Wow! Thank you for sharing this! This is awesome!
Love this so much!! Thanks for sharing.
Very clever! Love the song!
One of my favorite songs🙏🏼🙏🏼
This explains so much why I found it so stimulating
I absolutely LOVED this video; thanks for sharing, Jack.
Thanks for posting this Jack!!! I love your songs and the creation of any art is what makes this top ride through space most fun :) When our senses take in something fully formed its hard to conceive the process of getting there, especially when it comes to music ...but thanks to your video this mystery has been partly unraveled. Keep on keeping on :)
thanks for making this wonderful wonderful song and showing what your thoughts are when you make it
You guys have a great sound and I totally love the transparency you have with your fans! Great Work!
This is so interesting, thanks for sharing 🙌
Amazing how it all comes together ...definitely a talent !
Awesome video, dude, thank you for sharing! It was my favourite song from the second half of 2014, no doubt.
Ur awesome! Love you jack.
Can't wait to start working on this!
This is so cool! I love behind the scenes stuff! Thanks for sharing your process and how you made IWGB. It is such a great song! Another great song is Out Of The Woods. I would love to see a BTS or Making Of for that song.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just LOVE videos like this that break it down and show the mechanics of the song and any inspiration behind it! I find it incredibly fascinating! My art comes from behind a chair so I never tire of watching videos just like this one!
This is so impressive I am blown away at your talents like I loved the song before but now it's like a whole new level your artistry is amazing
Simply incredible man.. literally amazing how some minds work the way they do.. I'm so in aw of this whole process... just.. wow.
He’s so talented it blows my mind
As someone who really likes making music with the same process you do, it's really fun and informative to see how you make your songs. Can you continue to do more of these in the future? Do you plan on doing any more tracks off the album?
When the music making process is as beautiful as the music
Show us how you make Lorde's melodrama!
Keep it secret

Very inspiring, thanks! :)
Amazeballz, makes me cry💙
You are awesome
This Is One Of My Favorite Songs.
Good job on making this beat for this song. I’m literally listening to this song because I’m going though some things and this song is kinda help me out so that is why this song is one of my favorite because if is describing the course of my life... pardon my writing it is hard to describe what I am feeling right now so thousand pardon for my comment.

I know I am a little late to the party, but I got super excited at the end when you mentioned the stems were below but then it looks like the link is broken? Not that it is a big deal, but I love the idea of F'ing up this song if you'll still have it haha.
Great song.
More than incredible
Amazing
I know I’m late, but this is incredible. Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE YOU THIS WAS AMAZING :(((((((( MAKE MORE PLEASE

NatureI3 Have you still got the stems? Jacks link doesn't work and id like to have a listen :-)
Hey Jack you should release the "weird version" as part of a song, like how bleachers did the reprise on the album.:)
ily forever
"just fuck it up" I love you Jack lololol
jack is amazing, i'll just go back to work and weld stuff...
i've never remixed anything before, but i'm really excited to try this
Did you remix and post?
@@cherryvonsprinkle9747 Yes. It's on my channel.
this man is a genius
I love you Jack! ♥
I love Bleahers more than life...............
That was very cool. Where and how do I start to encourage my kids to do this kind of thing? love seeing artists succeeding at what they love and inspiring others.
I love how fast he talks
Gosh he's talented
this is so insane
Woah I didn’t know he was in Malaysia at that time!
Love from Malaysia ❤️
I want to be a genius like this! Your songs are so good! I’m so jealous because music is my passion but I can’t sing for shit. I learned some guitar and piano but I’m so rhythmically challenged. A band tried to give me a tambourine to play and I said I sucked at it. They said it would be fine but ended up taking it away after they heard me play it. 😂
Do you know what software he uses? I want to make music like this but I have no idea how or where to start

What are the monitors next to the desk? And agree with all the other comments AWESOME video for an awesome song. Kudos.

What instrument is that? Excited to see you guys tomorrow in Madison!
The "GO!" sample ))))))
damn! i'm late to this. I wish the stems were still available :(
I see a Yamaha DX7 and what looks like an Oberheim OBXa in the background.
he just gave his consent for us to make music from his stems !
i spent years sitting around like this making music. then i got sober and havnt been able to write anything since... oh well.
