  • The piglets are weaned I move all of them back in to the pasture with their mama. After having piglets, Clover gained a lot of her orange hair back! Hormonal? Romeo is a bit nervous and being bullied so he has scours. I have to keep an I on him because this is something that needs taken care of. My chickens are doing it again! I found two large clutches of eggs out in the field. That causes my personal supply of yummy breakfast eggs to run low! I think the chickens are being negatively influenced and bullied by the guineas. Maybe I need to get a rooster again to keep their influence to a minimum. I reorganized the pens so that the piglets can join their mama. Even though they protest with ear piercing squeals, I move the piglets one by one into their new pasture. Everyone is getting along perfectly fine.
Every day my family and I are learning what it means to run a hobby farm. We started with chickens then added myotonic, or fainting, goats, and eventually kunekune (kune kune) pigs. Throw in some Guinea fowl and turkeys and cats and dogs with a creek and tons of wildlife and you start to get an idea of what our hobby farm is like. Hobby farming is time consuming and hard, but rewarding and fulfilling. There are daily chores that never stop. The animals need to be fed and watered. Pastures and pens need to be fenced and built. Goats and pigs need to be rotated in their pastures to give them fresh food and to rejuvenate the land. Food is planted and grown for the animals. Medicines are given orally and injected to prevent and cure sickness and combat parasites. Hooves need to be trimmed. Babies need to be raised. At any given time we have gilts, sows, boars, piglets, bucks, does, kids, chicks, chickens, keets, guineas, turkeys, etc. that need our attention, love and care. Follow along and we’ll learn and grow on this adventure together!

You can test your eggs by doing the float test to see how old they are. If I find a stash like that I checked them in any that are totally at the bottom I keep if they float even a tiny bit then I go ahead and feed them to other animals.

Are turkeys gone? What's your impression, was them a good idea?

Not gone, just not featured in this video. They'll be back! And they were super easy to raise.
