RSF Tales Of A Hobby Farmer
United States
Приєднався 25 січ 2022
Every day my family and I are learning what it means to run a hobby farm. We started with chickens then added myotonic (fainting) goats, and eventually kunekune (kune kune) pigs. Throw in some Guinea fowl and cats and dogs with a creek and tons of wildlife and you start to get an idea of what our hobby farm is like. Hobby farming is time consuming and hard, but rewarding and fulfilling. There are daily chores that never stop. The animals need to be fed and watered. Pastures and pens need to be fenced and built. Goats and pigs need to be rotated in their pastures to give them fresh food and to rejuvenate the land. Food is planted and grown for the animals. Medicines are given orally and injected to prevent and cure sickness and combat parasites. Hooves need to be trimmed. Babies need to be raised. At any given time we have gilts, sows, boars, piglets, bucks, does, kids, chicks, chickens, etc. that need our attention, love and care. Follow along and we’ll learn together.
THANKFUL FOR MY HOBBY FARM. WINTERIZING CONTINUES.
Autumn is upon Rubber Sole Farm and the leaves are falling. It is time to winterize the animals' watering systems. I have to put heating elements in the goats' water pans and trade out the chickens' nipple waterer with a heated dog water bowl. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I am so thankful for my hobby farm and the time I can spend with the animals that live on it. Jo Jo is showing definite signs of being in heat. She is even putting bucks ahead of food! One of my heating elements may have been damaged over the summer and I'll explain how. The chickens are eating more of their chicken food and that's because their food source of insects and foliage has decreased due to the cold weather. I have to contain the 'free range' chickens to the coop and run for the winter to protect them.

WE HAVE A FENCE CLIMBING PIG ON THE FARM!
Переглядів 21014 днів тому
The farm has one less pig because one was sold yesterday! Pigs have the loudest, bloodcurdling screech when they are in distress or scared or in pain. Romeo is recuperating. I am teaching the pigs to take hay as a supplement. I have used alfalfa pellets and sunflower seeds in the past, but that can be expensive. PawPaw has learned to climb up on the fence for food! He acts just like a dog somet...
PIGS AND PUMPKINS / DOES WANTING BUCKS
Переглядів 16721 день тому
It's time to feed the pigs our left over pumpkins and they love them! The piglets have never had pumpkins before. It is now the season for the does to start eyeing the bucks. They are constantly calling out to them and they are more "affectionate" and want to be around me more. I have to winterize the water hose that I use to water the animals. Some of my chickens and guineas prefer to roost ou...
KUNEKUNE PIGS WILL ROOT IF THEY HAVE A REASON TO.
Переглядів 159Місяць тому
When I trim the cypress I just leave it in the goat pen for them to munch on. They love it and it's a natural dewormer. Fall and cold temperatures are coming. That means I will have to disconnect the hoses and begin watering with buckets. That always makes the chores more difficult, but it has to be done. Romeo is doing much better now that he has been separated from the bully bucks. The slide ...
IT'S COPPER BOLUS TIME FOR THE GOATS!
Переглядів 106Місяць тому
I try to re-purpose an old play set slide to use as a pig feeding trough. We'll see if it works in the long run. It is time to tend to the goats so I have to trim some hooves, and give them a copper bolus. Each task is unique in its way, but it doesn't go too badly. I move Romeo (our youngest buck) into a pen of his own because his is not thriving and I think it is because the bucks are bullyin...
HUNGRY PIGS CAN BE SUPER LOUD!
Переглядів 494Місяць тому
PawPaw is sporting some nice tusks! Jo Jo is beginning to sport her winter thick furry coat. It is super soft. It is more difficult to feed 9 pigs in a pen than 2. They are smart and fast so they are at their food bowls before I can dump their food! And they definitely talk (scream) at you to hurry up and feed them!! The divider I put up to help me when I feed 2 isn't effective when I have 9 in...
CHICKENS ARE GREAT PUMPKIN CARVERS!
Переглядів 1772 місяці тому
Giving some attention to a bunch of hungry pigs can be problematic, but I take my chances and go for it! I have heard that chickens make great pumpkin carvers. I admit to being a bit skeptical about this, but I try it myself to see if it's true. It is! They did a great job! I miss the turkeys, but know they have served their purpose. One of my trees was eager to welcome autumn before any of the...
TIME TO PROCESS THE TURKEYS
Переглядів 3172 місяці тому
Our 4-H turkeys are ready for processing. We have a local farm that processes poultry and I am going to take the turkeys there today. I show you how I create a transport area in the back of my truck. I have found turkeys to be easy to raise and they weren't hostile or aggressive at all. The only negative is that they (their feces) did have a smell that was worse than all my other animals. My da...

How many turkeys do you have? 😂🦃
@@Thefourturkeys At the time we had 5. But they sure love to eat!
@@rsftalesofahobbyfarmer awsome
Happy pigs indeed!
No idea how are you still alive
Did you know these goat antics before you get them?
The ones I bought, no. The ones raised from birth on the farm I got used to as they grew up!
Your animals are pretty.. cylindrical, chubby. Good looking fatties. How did you do that if seemingly you feed them not much. Pigs do not have a full bowl of food in their area or something.
How old are your kunekune pigs? We got one and he is like over 200lbs...he's very destructive...tears up fence and chewed up his wood 6x 8 chicken coop...
@@angelasalah2626 at the time several.were about a year old and one 18 months. I've had them all since piglets and handled them a lot. I have a boar and sow that are well over 200 lbs and they are gentle giants. They haven't been destructive, but they have a nice pasture area and are fed regularly. Does he have a friend? KK's need companions. Maybe he is trying to tell you he is frustrated without a friend. 🤥
This is how major fires start. 🤬
Love the laugh😂
Title in the news: "Crazy farmer uses his teenage daughter to carry livestock" 😛 Goats are weird. No problem with hooftrimming but will bully each other to death.
Thats a nice egg!
Oh boy😅 lol
Jesus dude wheres the damn fungus. I didnt click to watch your ass walk around and ramble on about shit nobody cares about.
🤣 🤣 🤣
You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about
New to your channel and loving it. Thanks 😀
Welcome aboard, I'm glad you like it. Just me going about my business. Lol!
Ya I feel for those ladies, lol
It’s a double yolker. Young hens do it a lot. It breaks them in lol.
I had a brown chicken that would lay massive eggs all the time sometimes it would have extra shell growth like little fragments that looked like it was trying to do another shell around it idk much about chickens but I'm sure it's fine
You have a 🦃?
Lol, no!
@Gwar211 I agree.
Super common. Probably a double yoker.
I thought the same thing 🤪
You leave that sparrow alone
If you kill a farm animal, you start a new life. Conversely, if you don't kill, it means that someone will never be born. So basically it's a dilemma, let one animal live for 5 years and four animals live for 0 years or let five animals live for 1 year each. This is the harsh truth of life and not killing is not a better option, as you can see.
Lmao 😂😂 the last mmmmm cracked me up yo
Mud Bugs! Liking your channel. No BS. Subscribed.
Thank you! Nice to have you along.
You can farm frogs now
If they are for eating I don't think tree frogs would be big enough for that. Can you farm frogs for any other reason? Pets?
@@rsftalesofahobbyfarmer quick google told me you can sell one tree frog for 25 bucks lol
They are called yabbies in Australia..
Your kune piglets are the most fierce piglets on the YT. They dont't mind battle scars.
They can definitely fend for themselves!
I taught my chickens to eat mice. Poultry are modern day Velociraptors!
@heidiann2435 Mice, frogs, snakes, and ticks. Love the benefits!
We dare not eat them in nz, they're too damn cute
I use a weedeater it works amazing
You have your own pig therapy ritual
You can test your eggs by doing the float test to see how old they are. If I find a stash like that I checked them in any that are totally at the bottom I keep if they float even a tiny bit then I go ahead and feed them to other animals.
Yeah, and the sinkers I could boil to be totally sure. Thanks!
Are turkeys gone? What's your impression, was them a good idea?
Not gone, just not featured in this video. They'll be back! And they were super easy to raise.
You are living my dream ❤
So sorry for your loss, she looks like absolute beautiful dog ❤ 10:37
I do love have you don’t have your beautiful pigs in all mud, love all the greenery you have for them ❤
2:25 lol, this dude instantly reminded me Fifth Element movie P.s. a bunch of funny moments in this video. I wish you guys 10k viewers so you can earn a a bit for your video producing chores
Maybe someday! Just go tell 10k of your friends to subscribe. That will be a good start! 😃
They are almost like you. Part funny part chubby part cute and they like talking.
Hey... who ever said I liked talking? Lol
@@rsftalesofahobbyfarmer well, i pretty much enjoy your reports. some farmers just film and no talking. but that was my least surething point anyway.
Nice setup I can tell you love your animals great job!!! Much respect
Great farm and family vibes! keep it up!
2:25 Are they all scream like that? I mean the solo is quite good. Pigs and turkeys can live together you can teach others about that
They scream when they are playing king of the bowl or when mama is pushing them around.
I can't bleve how big the potbelly baby pigs are getting
They do seem to grow fast, but compared to other breeds they actually are pretty slow growers.
Thank you
These piglets are tough as nails. Fighting for food with their 100x bigger mom.
I know, right!!
0:50 nice solo
It look like the kunies pigs and goats and turkey's and ginnies are keeping you buzzy
this thing is made by Sauron
14:08 it's Pawpaw, right?
Yup. Like the tree.
Yeah your gladiator fight was not very entertaining. At least the pig was trying to chew some bird.
Turkeys look like the most domesticated animal ever. They totally dont mind.
Funny you said that because I found them to be completely docile and easy going. It surprised me because I expected them to be more aggressive.
Thank you
