  • Good day to you, and welcome back to PART 3 of my Corvette C5 project series!
    In this episode me and Chris (@chrisbaker121924 ) will be doing our very best to get this retro 90s American sportscar icon running once again! We install the replacement pcm / ecu (Powertrain Control Module) and get the security system talking to it. Hopefully. And finally make a bit of progress....
    We also stop for a brief musical interlude and spruce up the interior with a small modification.
    If you haven’t caught part 1 and part 2 yet just click on the link in top right of the screen...

    Oh. And if you’d like to call me out on any drastic errors or engineer faux pas then please use the comments section according!
    I hope you enjoy the video!

    Consider getting some finger-less gloves for these cold days in the garage (but frankly gloves are a great idea even if your circulation is amazing). Looks like a nice car either way. Consider using some fishing line to carefully remove stuck on logos and lettering on cars, It's less risky than plastic pry bars against plastic panels.

    Hello from Florida USA. Really enjoy the way you Brit chaps talk. Sure would like to know the back story of how a c5 Corvette got to The British Isles. I assume that is where you are. Parts for these vettes are hard to find here in the USA so kudos to you for showing some love to the vette. The exhaust set up on you car is interesting. Never saw one like it here at home

      Thanks for watching! We are based in Nottingham, home of Robin Hood 😄 I believe this particular car was originally imported by a U.S. Serviceman who was stationed here… They were also available as a UK car (although left hand drive only) via our Vauxhall (GM) dealerships in the early 00s. Exhaust is an SLP and I think the design is quite a rare one, I haven’t seen another in the UK but I’ve seen a few in photos online…

    Hey. I see there is a follow up video...gonna watch, but if I don't ask now I will forget...At this point did your remote key fobs work? My DIC is a blank screen and just looking forward to all the problems the car is going to throw at me. Thanks

      Thanks for watching! My remote fobs worked no problem during this part of the investigation. Have you got a Tech 2? Best thing I ever bought for this vette!
      What is the issue you have? Sounds more like a body control module issue to me… Are you able to pull the codes from the car?

    • @standardIssues67
      @standardIssues67 7 місяців тому

      Codes are 327 and 332. Have pinging now(returned) until the car gets to about 220°. Car had a ping before recent work was done but no codes for it. Had the engine resealed. Since it was out also did oil and water pumps, timing set, balancer, sensors-knock,camshaft. Over looked the crank position sensor, so that was replaced after Check engine light came on the first time If reset, the check engine light comes on after getting on the freeway. Seems to happen around 70mph. That isn't driving hard, just getting going.

      @@standardIssues67 seems like knock sensors could be faulty or you are using poor quality fuel... Have you tried running on some high octane fuel?

      @@Auto_Funk they were stock(original equipment.) Replaced with aftermarket(not cheap, but after market) replaced them with OEM. Problem persistent.

      @@standardIssues67 weird... I guess if the knock sensors are showing a fault it can either be a problem with them (or the circuit) or the car is detonating in which case possibly the timing could be out. Hope you get it sorted! I'd recommend investing in a Tech 2 though, that would definitely help with the diags.

      @@teamdumbway1305thanks buddy! Much appreciated! If you need any advice re the ECU let me know… If you can access a Tech 2 it’s really easy to install the ECU (slightly more fiddly if not but still doable). I think my next video explains all…

    How much did you pay for the ECU box??

    • @Auto_Funk
      @Auto_Funk  7 місяців тому

      I think it was around £140 including tax and shipping to the UK… from “Flashmasters” :) thanks for watching!

    How is the corvette? Any more codes thrown up ?

    • @Auto_Funk
      @Auto_Funk  Рік тому +2

      All sorts of codes! After a load of messing around off camera (all VERY boring stuff) I think the new PCM might need a software reflash so both the old and new PCMs are with an ECU repair company who are having a look at swapping the eproms over. I hope to have another video coming soon :) And hopefully one with good news!
      Thanks for watching! :)

      Just seen this! In short - No 🤣 part 4 is uploaded now and I’ve managed to fix it finally! I ended up using a 3rd PCM as I accidentally killed the second one by having an ecu repairer attempt to copy the program from the original PCM onto it.
