  • My brother Glenn had problems with his grass trimmer not always working when the switch was depressed so he decided to see if the problem could be easily fixed. Luckily there were no wires loose and it was a simple mechanical fix for the problem. This video shows how he fixed the problem. Since his channel does not do this type of videos we collaborated together and are placing it on my channel. Hopefully this can help and if so please like and subscribe.

Some info on troubleshooting corded electrical grass and lawn trimmers and edgers.
There are a lot of things that might cause your electric trimmer to not start but with a bit of troubleshooting, you can often isolate and resolve the problem.
    The Simplest Fixes
Before you investigate bigger problems causing your corded electric trimmer/edger to lose power, make sure the switch is turned to the “on” position.
Make sure the power cord is plugged in.
Check the breaker panel or fuse box powering the outlet. If a breaker has tripped, or a fuse has blown, reset the breaker or replace the fuse.
Always use caution when dealing with electricity and do not proceed if you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable working with electricity.
    Debris Clogging Line
If you have a battery powered or electric Weed Eater trimmer that won't start, turn the power switch to the "off" position and check the bottom of the trimmer. If grass or debris has clogged around the trimmer's cutting line, the trimmer may not start. Clear all material from the underside of the trimmer to resolve the problem.
If this doesn't work then taking the trimmer apart to check wire connections and mechanical connections can be done.
Safety should always be your top priority when working with any type of machinery, even something as small as an electric hedge trimmer. Use common sense. Turn off the trimmer and fully unplug it from its power source. Doing this will eliminate the chance of accidentally turning it on while you work. Resist the urge to simply turn the unit off; it's too easy to accidentally hit the on/off switch and injure yourself.

Thanks for this. We had a similar problem with a cordless version of a Black and Decker strimmer. We fixed ours by sticking something on top of the black microswitch so that it couldn't move when the large plastic switch pressed against it. A very odd and rather poor bit of design! Your video helped :)

FWIW I have a couple of Black and Decker corded mowers. And I had to replace a switch on one of them with similar design.
Which IMHO is a poor design, since the trigger does not push on the switch directly. So it can lose contact easily as it wears down with age. But I bought them used one for next to nothing, so it's all good,
Now I just have to find a way to fix a trash find, cordless string trimmer that will not start. But the battery seems to charge. I hate cordless crap, lol. Wish me luck.

Mine starts as soon as I plug it in and immediately burns out the motor and smoke comes up the shaft. I had to replace one, then the brand new one did it on its second use. It simply started as soon as I plugged in the male end to the trimmer, then burned up.

i only used mine once but it sounds stronger than that so far....Does the head or spool thing come completely off so i could put a brush blade on this...?...i couldn't find a hole on mine to stick a thin rod into, or do you think this model can't do that...?...Thank you...

Mine started making a loud noise and then smoking lol. I thought I'd see if this is something I could fix, or if it's dunzo.

    • @LowKeyLifeHKD
      @LowKeyLifeHKD  2 роки тому +1

Could be electrical or mechanical might need to check and see if something is stuck in it rubbing on something else or if there are melted areas since you said it was smoking. Might be better to replace if not easy find/fix since replacement parts might be hard to find.

@@LowKeyLifeHKD Thanks for your post. My machine just stopped completely. Prior to that it had been making grinding noises and last summer there was an instance of smoke in the motor housing. I just made up mind to replace after reading your advice !

Cleaning the electric motor with water is very dangerous. Risk of death ! ! ! Don't undertake a repair like this unless you REALLY know what your doing.
