This is the cast on I was taught as a child (I'm now 65!), I've always used it, and in common with some other commenters, I never knew other methods existed until recently. Your tutorials are excellent, thank you.
I'm an experienced knitter but needed a refresher in cable cast on. I chose yours because I know you always explain clearly (and your titles and presentation look so professional). The slow motion here was especially helpful. Thanks!
This is the only cast on I have ever known until recently and I am almost 60! Tought how to knit by my mum and nana and I think this was all they knew too.
Love the slow-mo and thank you for mentioning the knitted cast on in passing. I think I'm going to try the knitted cast on for some projects going forward.
Thank you for this video. My pattern calls for adding a cable cast-on to a row of knitting -- and here you are with a lucid demonstration. Bless you for a timely moment of 'Knitting Zen.'
I love your tutorial videos. They are so easy to follow. I have been a knitter for MANY years, but I think I was stuck in beginner to medium. With your help, I am advancing. Thank you so much!
Thanks for your video, it helped me name the cast-on I've used most of the past 50 years. I haven't noticed I need anything else, but have been learning new cast-on methods with new patterns which is fun. Love your how to videos! Anne 🦘
I love when you said how the slow motion is educational to you too. It made me look at my fingers and I saw that I hold onto my left stitch so that it doesn't fall off with my left middle finger. I successfully did the cable cast-on. Thank you for another amazing tutorial!
This was great! Thank you. I would really love to see a vise showing different cast on methods and bind offs with their reasons for choosing one over the other
I have to admit I laughed out loud with this video, when you said slow, you really meant it. It was great though and I am sure I can now do it. Thanks again....
Perfect timing! I am starting a cardigan and this is the cast on the pattern wants us to use. Thank you so much for all of your tutorials they are so helpful! 🧶
I hadn’t knitted in quite a while and for the life of me couldn’t remember how to cast on. After a while, I got it and was casting on with speed. Thanks!!
Thank you for the slow-mo video! I'm a relatively new knitter and learned the long tail cast on, but I think I'm going to use this method from now on. I love the edge!
I was watching some other video about this very cast on last night, they made it seem so complicated whereas your video as usual is clear and concise. Thank you Stacy. xxJane
Very nicely explained and shown in slow motion. I used a crochet hook in the right hand and knitting needle in the left hand because the crochet hook helped me draw the loop out from between the two stitches easily.
Thanks for the explanation because sometimes when I learn new things, (new cast-ons or cast-offs, I generally think that’s what I’m gonna start using from now on not realizing there’s generally a reason,) so thanks for the explanation.😊
Hope you are staying warm in TX! You guys arent used to blizzards like we New Englanders :) Thanks for this video! Im currently working on a pattern than needs stitches cast on in the middle and wasn't sure how to tackle it.
very nice tutorial, thanks. I am working on the FireworksKAL with Olive Knits that uses the cable cast on for the neckline on this beautiful top down sweater...
I don’t know if it’s because I’m a flicker or because you’re so yarn good at teaching, but I always find your videos clearer than the others. Probably both 🤔😂
Before I found your channel, I watched another video that suggested putting the needle between the stitches getting ready for the next stitch before you tighten the last stitch so it’s not too tight.
Well I thought this might be a different way to cast on but its the way I always use and I don't use cable needles either specially if theres a lot of stitches to cast on I just use normal needles and have used this method of casting on ever since my mother taught me to knit and back then there was no computers to show you how.
Is this cast on equivalent to the long tail? I have to cast on 188 with yarn that is very scant and cannot afford any waste. This looks nice. It’s a brioche cowl.
TIL… I only ever use cable cast on! I didn’t know what this CO was called, I thought it was “knitted CO”. Someone taught me about 25 years ago when I first started knitting and I preferred it over long tail, so much so that I completely forgot how to do long tail!

Thank you so much for these slo-mo videos. As a new knitter im frequently confused and these are so helpful!
This is the only cast on I have ever known until recently and I am almost 60! Tought how to knit by my mum and nana and I think this was all they knew too.
Me too and I’m 67, I’m making a “ badger” and even M1 is made to sound overly complicated lol 👍💕
Me too !!!
Thank you!!! As usual - your tutorials are the BEST!!!!!
Showing this in slow motion is genius! Thank you for this, and for all of your video tutorials. They are always very easy to follow and helpful.
Love the slow-mo and thank you for mentioning the knitted cast on in passing. I think I'm going to try the knitted cast on for some projects going forward.
This is the cast on I was taught as a child, been using it for over 40 years & only 1 I knew till a short time ago
Thank you for this video. My pattern calls for adding a cable cast-on to a row of knitting -- and here you are with a lucid demonstration. Bless you for a timely moment of 'Knitting Zen.'
Thanks so much for this! Of all the knitting videos I watch, VeryPinkKnits are the absolute best. So easy to follow along!
I love your tutorial videos. They are so easy to follow. I have been a knitter for MANY years, but I think I was stuck in beginner to medium. With your help, I am advancing. Thank you so much!
I've been knitting for years and never come across this before. Thanks for the help!!
As always your videos are helpful and thoughtfully created. This is my go-to channel for knitting help!
Thanks for your video, it helped me name the cast-on I've used most of the past 50 years. I haven't noticed I need anything else, but have been learning new cast-on methods with new patterns which is fun. Love your how to videos! Anne 🦘
Great tutorial. You are an excellent teacher! The slow motion with regular speed audio is very helpful. Thank you so much.
You’re slow motion demos are the best!
I love when you said how the slow motion is educational to you too. It made me look at my fingers and I saw that I hold onto my left stitch so that it doesn't fall off with my left middle finger. I successfully did the cable cast-on. Thank you for another amazing tutorial!
Great video - I took out my cast on stitches 9 times , then spotted your video- fabulous
This was great! Thank you. I would really love to see a vise showing different cast on methods and bind offs with their reasons for choosing one over the other
* Video sorry
You probably know this by now, but different methods provide different levels of stretchiness.
Thank you. The slow videos really help see the work.
I love your slo-mo videos!! Thank you!!

I really like your slow motion - so much easier to follow!
Thank you for the slow-mo video! I'm a relatively new knitter and learned the long tail cast on, but I think I'm going to use this method from now on. I love the edge!
Your videos are my go-to for tutorials. Thank you for making these stitches so easy to understand!
I just love listening to you! Your so nice! Excellent videos!
Thank you! Love the slo-mo tutorial. Always refer to your videos with questions.

I so enjoyed your slow motion video. So so helpful! Thank you😊
Very nicely explained and shown in slow motion.
I used a crochet hook in the right hand and knitting needle in the left hand because the crochet hook helped me draw the loop out from between the two stitches easily.
This is the only tutorial for this cast on that I could follow. Thank you!
Thank you! I love all of your tutorials, they are so good!!!!
you make the BEST videos! thank you so much for all you do!!
I just have a hat pattern that calls for this, this video was perfect timing and I love slo mo the best.
I love your tutorials! They help me so very much to learn knitting
I love all your slow-mo instructions.🎃🎃🎃🎃
This is amazing, this is exactly what I've been looking for in understanding the cable cast on
I absolutely love your videos! You are such a good teacher! This in slow motion is genius!
Staci, thank you so much! You are so awesome!
Thanks for the explanation because sometimes when I learn new things, (new cast-ons or cast-offs, I generally think that’s what I’m gonna start using from now on not realizing there’s generally a reason,) so thanks for the explanation.😊
I too was taught this cast on about 60 years ago and have only recently started using other types. !!
Thank you. The slow motion made it easy
Wow all my life I’ve been doing this cast-on wrongly…twisting each stitch before mounting makes all the difference!
Great video, this certainly clarified this stitch. Thank you!
I literally use this cast on for everything I make :') love this so much
Thanks - very helpful to see it more close-up and in slo-mo.
Thank you very much for this brilliant tutorial.
EXCELLENT EXPLANATION. Thank you!!!
Love the slow mo. Thank you
This was MASSIVELY helpful, thank you.
Always GREAT tips... thanks!!
Thank you, very clear tutorial ❤
This is amazing, so helpful!!!
Very helpful doing it in slow motion. Thank you!
you always have lovely nails in your videos, just an observation, but 10/10 to where you have them done, they're so beautiful!
Thank you. :) I do my own nails.
My favourite cast on 🙂
Me too. This is my regular cast on
Hope you are staying warm in TX! You guys arent used to blizzards like we New Englanders :)
Thanks for this video! Im currently working on a pattern than needs stitches cast on in the middle and wasn't sure how to tackle it.
Thank you! Love your videos. ❤

Very helpful. Thanks so much.
Great video thank you ☺️
Thanks you GREAT DEMO
I don’t know if it’s because I’m a flicker or because you’re so yarn good at teaching, but I always find your videos clearer than the others. Probably both 🤔😂
It’s the only cast on I’ve ever used, been knitting for over 50 years. Didn’t know it had that name
Thank you, I really appreciate you.

I use this cast on for adding stitches to an underarm when it might say to CO in backwards loop method
Why dont you use backward loops method
Love the slow motion. Tell me 100 times or show me once !!
Is this cast on equivalent to the long tail? I have to cast on 188 with yarn that is very scant and cannot afford any waste. This looks nice. It’s a brioche cowl.
Thank you!
This is how I cast on all the time but never realised that it was called “ cable cast on “ 🙄👍💕
Straighten that last cast on edge by doing the last one as a regular cast on (use the loop, not between stitches)
17:10 my pattern calls for I cord cast on can I use this one instead
TIL… I only ever use cable cast on! I didn’t know what this CO was called, I thought it was “knitted CO”. Someone taught me about 25 years ago when I first started knitting and I preferred it over long tail, so much so that I completely forgot how to do long tail!
How do you add the cable stitch to an already worked piece I.e. baby’s cap
Can you use this method for increasing stitches.? please demonstrate that.
You definitely could. Just think of the stitch from which you start casting on as if it was the slip knot in this video.
Love your videos. What nailpolish was that?
Thank you. My nail polish is Gelish Black Cherry Berry.
@@verypinkknits its very pretty.
Is there a matching bind off?
A regular BO is probably the closest.
@@verypinkknits I found a cable cast off somewhere on here, and used it for the cot blanket I made recently (my first big make!) - looked pretty good!
No
Thanks..
? - would you do a tutorial on placing a reactive lifeline on a garter stitch project please? I'm stuck!
🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶
Great video thank you 😊
