Let me know if you like this! I'm super excited about this new series :) also here's the link to the pierrot lunaire that was muted: ua-cam.com/video/Sn9pvwDeNzE/v-deo.html
Honestly, this was just a lot of fun to watch and I hope we see more. It has a fun contrast to the series of people seeing video game music for the first time, where they are experiencing it for the first time and you get to watch their reaction this series brings the same concept but flipped with you having the new experience with somebody else eagerly awaiting your reaction. It's more or less the same thing but with the pieces moved around enough to be genuinely great to see. It just felt fun to watch, especially in context of the other series. If there were more episodes I would likely put them together in a playlist alternating from one series to the other. Which may or may not be a good release idea, idk, but food for thought. Regardless, I hope you do more.
Loved seeing you talk about other genre's or the music in general it's always a pleasure to see creators in a different light. Hope you have a great day o7
I was so surprised to see Moonlit Occultation on here, yes i did expect to see Marco include an OST from PGR in this video, but I did not expect Moonlit Occultation, Vanguard Sound Studio is really underrated, even now not a lot of people know about it especially the game that they're working with which is Punishing Gray Raven, people might say I'm glazing (i am glazing) but it's valid glazing. Vanguard Sound Studio's style for PGR is so iconic that whenever you hear that Choir during the OST you will instantly say "Yeah this is from Vanguard"
The chillest music content creator with the chillest gacha content creator, oh this is gonna be good for my working hours. Off to great start with this series, Marco
1:15:50 I love seeing people react to Daredevil for the first time because they always expect some kind of drop right there, but it stays quiet and adds the gentle vocals. Then at 1:17:30 the song actually takes off. Guy was confused for a hot second before it picked up. Then at 1:18:00 my dude just fully loses himself in the sauce. Had to start tapping with 2 hands XD Love how he even said he was confused after the fact.
Always love hearing Ace Combat Music make a return. Hoping we could see Black Mesa's ost someday cause damn its got SO many good ones I love using when I work out. Moonlit Occultation blew me away, really well done!
Whoever send you the Tarir soundtrack from Gw2 is a genius. From that same album I highly recommend Auric Wilds and Rata Novus. Auric Wilds has this great combination of sound by combining a marimba and a steel pan (might be a different instrument) and the strings sound like pure melancholy around two thirds in. Rata Novus is more mysterious and plays while you're exploring the ruins of a lost city deep underground.
Sounds like I need to go back and listen to the rest of the GW2 soundtrack. I only remember Raven Speaks, and I adore that one, even if it is relatively simple, all things considered.
"Brynn the breaker" is an interesting one. It plays as the level song where you are exploring a dead sky island where everyone is turned to stone and you are investigating what happened, as you are attacked by monsters. At the end you flee as the ground is falling out from beneath you, so it literally becomes a race for your life. Bastion is pretty cool, simple game that hits right in the feels. I recommend "Build that Wall/ Mother, i'm here; Setting sail/Coming home" The end credits song for the game. the final song changes depending on your choices, of which are truly dire in this game. Its pretty cool.
Had never heard of BranOnline before this video. This was very fun to listen to, both the music and the banter. Moonlit Occultation was an awesome surprise having never played the game.
It's funny how Marco talks about "metamorphosis" and "cocooning" during the discussion of Moonlit Occultation, when it's literally about Luna, who has been in a cocoon-like state for numerous patches in a row now, as she garners new strength, powers, and a new form. So yeah, Marco, spot on!
As a guild wars 2 player its so nice to hear Tarir on this list, easily one of my favorite maps simply from them music alone, the map is nearly 10 years old but the first time you fly over the golden city is just... breathtaking
Tarir the forgotten city is my absolute favourite OST from GW2, whenever i change my skins or just do some chilling/idling in game, i'll teleport to tarir just for the music. Very happy to see it included here ❤❤
About Guild Wars 2: Sure, the initial score was written by the legendary Jeremy Soule and many people were sad when Arenanet broke up bonds with him, but in my personal opinion, it was the best that could happen to GW2's score. To be fair, Soule's music IS good, but it's sooooo generic and interchangable between all of his works, like, switch the Music from the Norn regions with Skyirm and vice versa and nobody would even realize they belong to a whole 'nother game actually. But as soon as Maclaine Diemer took over from there with the Heart of Thorns expansion (Where "Tarir, the Golden City" is from) and as many other musicians that have joined him ever since, they gave Guild Wars 2 sooooo much more of a unique and own musical identity that has never wavered ever since. A few other amazing examples of the soundtrack ever since: "Attack on Tarir", "Dragonflight" and "The Cycle Ends", so much diversity and yet, all so uniquely belonging to Guild Wars 2.... ...these composers deserve to be recognized!
All three of those are absolute bangers, best music in a game with a lot of good music. Honorable mention to "eagle flight" which is used for 1 tiny event in 1 zone and goes hard as fuck for no reason.
I actually prefer Jeremy Soule’s work on GW2 over what came after, but I’m still happy that I got to hear Maclaine Diemer’s music and that all these other musicians got their time to shine.
To me, the cycle ends is such a big part of dragons end I don't think that I would love that meta event as much if the cycle ends wasnt that good of a song
the comment about building and dismantling in the bastion track kinda fits with the game's theme of rebuilding the sky city. and visuals of rocky bridges and roads being built before you as you explore
I love KH, it still has a special piece in my heart, I played the first one on my cousin and I could never forget about the music that I was angry that Disney didn't have it as cartoons as a kid back then. I was so happy when I managed to play chain of memories on my gameboy and I would keep beating Ansem as Riku just to listen to the music.
39:57 Ah yes. Light Rampant. I never get to do Savage as I just don't have the time, but I do remember watching NEST lose their minds over this mechanic.
Im so happy to see GW2 music here. Tarir is the only place it made me stop for a while and look in marvel at the city of gold. Thats something I feel its been lost in a lot of games, usually its go from A to B, but the moment you just stop and look and listen and feel, makes a place worth it.
Love the vibes between you two! Great change of pace from the usual drama reacting within the gacha space (referring to what a lot of other CCs tend to gravitate towards, not either of you - which is why I'm a fan of both your content). I can't express how satisfied you ended the video with Daredevil. One of if not the greatest game tracks release of the past 5 years (it hits different with the constant "MISSILE. MISSILE" warning that somehow synchronizes with the beat of the music)
ooh Bynn the Breaker! So good. I haven't played Bastion, but it's on my playlist. Darren Korb knows how to do his work. From the same game Setting Sail, Coming Home, which I absolutaly love. I like how it combine two songs (amzing individually, especially Mother, I'm here) as a shift of two paths. ( I'm not sure if I expressed my thoughts correctly in English🤔)
If we‘re talking music in gw2 you gotta check out the ost for end of dragons - bunch of amazing pieces in there. Just a few of my highlights would be the main theme „End of Dragons“, „Togo‘s Legacy“, „What began will return“ and of course „The cycle ends“, this last one is so far the best gw2 ost imo.
Related to the Sprechstimme and Sprechgesang you mentioned, it's the main way Rammstein's singer Till Lindemann approaches their songs, it gives the songs a kind of storyteller feel, which is a great choice since a lot of their texts are quite descriptive and easy to imagine , while other times it gives off the feeling you're at a poetry recital
Hey Marco, have you ever heard of Legend of Mana? Its soundtrack, like Kingdom Hearts', was composed by Yoko Shimomura, and she often commented that it has always been her personal favorite throughout the years. It was also recently remastered along with the game itself in 2021, and somehow they managed to make it sound even better. It's just a pure joy to listen to.
Little bit late to the comment section here but I absolutely love this idea for a video. So fun. Also I'm so glad you're showcasing guild wars 2 music, I absolutely adore the its music.
The mention of loving certain pieces of ambient music makes me instantly think of "Auriel's Ascension". Composed by Jeremy Soule. It's easily one of my favorite video game ambient music. And this coming from a guy that loves Morrowind and Skyrim more than Oblivion. I'd recommend actually looking up the story behind Oblivion's OST, and listening to some of the ambient music. Also really love "Kyne's Peace", which Jeremy Soule also composed, as well as "The Fields of Ard Skellig", composed by Marcin Przybylowicz & Percival.
Ah yes, where there's a Bastion reference, there's a happy thumbs up from me. Twisted Streets and Terminal March always get me in the mood. Really nice idea for the new series, makes a nice contrast with the non-gamer one :)
The Everybody's Gone to the Rapture soundtrack, composed by Jessica Curry, may be may favorite video game music. I haven't watched all of your videos, but I haven't seen it featured at all. If you're not familiar, Carry Me Back to Her Arms and The Light We Cast are my favorite tracks, though it's best experienced listening through the whole thing.
thank you for showcasing bastion music. bastion was the first game that got me into indies and it was thanks to a youtuber named totalbiscuit that did a wtf video and recommended it to viewers. plus he used one of the songs for intermissions in his co optional podcast with jesse cox and dexbonus.
If you liked Tarir, the Forgotten City, pleeaaaase listen to Attack on Tarir, also from the GW2 soundtrack. It accompanies an awesome map-encompassing event that sees Tarir being besieged, and 4 squads of players having to break the siege from all sides simultaneously. Almost ten years after expansion release, it's still my favourite soundtrack from the game, and my favourite meta event (even though over time it became laughably easy due to power creep)
AYYYYY glad the Guild Wars 2 soundtrack is getting a bit of the spotlight, City of Tarir couldnt have been a more perfect choice as in introduction to the Guild wars soundscape. Highly recommend music from their other expansion soundtracks.
The Bastion bit reminded me of FTL ost Rockmen (Battle) for some reason. If you want to step out of comfort zone and listen to something different may i suggest Xcom Terror from the Deep ost? It felt unique to me and it is something that you either hate or it becomes very memorable in particular that games geoscape theme. Speaking of Punishing gray the only reason i even know about that game is music from it being used by Max0r and i think Ymfah both of witch manage to find niche music for their videos
36:45 "Tourist" is also sometimes used in the anime/manga fanbase to talk about people who act like or barely know an anime/manga and try to act like they know everything and are arbiters of the manga/anime they watch. When really the series can go without their input.
Tenchu. Nobody ever talks about Tenchu. When it comes to unique creative soundtracks this was my equivalent to Mechanics back in the 90s. "Limestone Caverns", "Punish the Evil Merchant", "Rescue the Captive Ninja". "Cure the Princess" is my absolute favorite. I used to play this song when exploring dark forest in the game Darkage of Camelot avoid those dang shrieking willows.
So glad you got to hear more Kingdom Hearts music, I also would suggest playing the games, but at the very least maybe listen to all of the different versions of Dearly Beloved. Yoko Shimomura does such a great job of creating variations that paint the tone for the games.
Marco you didn't forget that Hre-dragon was in Ryne-Shiva fight as it's savage only. 4th fight of pretty much every savage tier (so 4th, 8th 12th) has phase two. I highly recommend you get some ppl to run Unrestricted party (so just pretty much ignoring mechanics since you'd enter as lvl100) on most of these old two phase fights as phase transitions for some are absolute killers and some have entirely different songs for the phase two and are definitely worth watching at least once. (as for current raid tier you'd have to watch YT video as you can't enter current content as Unrestricted party). Highly recommend starting out with lvl70 savage of Exdeath fight (deltascape 4.0 i think)
that's ultra amazing idea for video series. I hope you will invite other streamers/content creators from Hoyo games, FF14, WoW, LoL, etc. to talk about their fav music, game music, etc.
Yeah, Bastion is also not my kind of game, but I do absolutely love the whole soundtrack. And some tracks do have singing in them. Would love reactions to more of the tracks! IIRC the soundtrack is made by only two persons?
The shoutout to The Tiberian Sons is on point. I swear 'Devil's Spear' feels like it belongs right in the real Ace Combat album. They're really talented people.
You should definently check out the sound track to Skylanders Spyro's adventure. i recently got into a nostalgia mood and was blown away how amazing the soundtrack really was.
GW2 is the best game to take your time in and appreciate the music and the scenery. The game almost never rushes you, and rewards you for exploring, while still having a checklist of stuff to do if you get lost. I recommend listening to Fear not This Night!
Bastion so good. The soundtrack is SO good. Supergiant's music is just always so good. It's ok that neither of you like Hades...you're both horribly wrong, but it's ok.
I did not expect to see Guild Wars 2 here.. Played it and GW1 since release and recently quit but my favourite music from it is Alpine Marches, The Cycle Ends and Fear Not This Night. I also highly recommend checking out the music from GW1 like the Factions main theme! Fun fact: All of GW1's music and most of GW2's earlier music was composed by Jeremy Soule from The Elder Scrolls Series and you can definitely recognize his style at times!
You should listen to some of the music from the old Baldurs gate 2 game from 20 years ago. Especially the expansion 'Throne of bhaal'. "Bhaal Spawn battle" & "Melissan Battle" are pretty epic.
No matter how many times I listen to, I love seeing how much Daredevil gives first time listeners blue balls with its drop teases before it finally gives the Big Drop.
Man, the music of Ace Combat is great. I'm getting goosebumps all over. Never played any of these games, but it seems I have to. Most of the technologies shown in the video, especially the swarm of drones starting from a transport plane, are all in development or already deployed. Shields not so much 🙂. The developer seems to pay attention to detail.
pretty sure that wasnt a voice you heard in Bynn the Breaker. Supergiant games make a point of having vocals always sung by a specific character in the game and they always stand out.
I’ve don’t know if you have done an analysis before, but I’d like to hear your opinions of “Ezio’s Family “theme from AC2 . It’s just one of those instrumental themes that’s really stuck seem to have stuck with a whole generation, even though it’s been well over 10 years . And in terms of Genshin , I would love to see you do an analysis of the Music from Remuria, specifically the scores in the “ Sumphonia Capitolii” section of the ost. (ex: “Glory and Decay” and “ Whispers of Domus Aurea” ). It was just so interesting seeming how the had an entire sub region that was basically love letter to just the existence of music and felt like a heartfelt goodbye to the Fontaine Region .
I'd like to recommend some Dark souls 2 stuff, you only reacted to one! -Sinh, the Slumbering dragon -Menu Theme -Aldia, Scholar of the first sin -Fume Knight -Burnt Ivory King -Demon of Song -Ancient Dragon Give them a chance! This game has a great OST
Dearly beloved always felt incredibly sad to me, even as a kid. It’s peaceful and relax and nice… but sad. It’s calmness at like giving up on loss of something. And even this version, though swinging, is sad as hell! Bittersweet is a better word! It’s happy but it’s… over. It’s the end and we’re exhausted now it’s done.
broooo I had the same exact nightmare from tomb raider, I know the exact spot in the game he means from my head. Very relatable to get nightmares about that
Hearing some gw2 music, you should check out the twin largos music. It is one of my favorite tracks in gw2 and it is very different from everything else in the game
Bynn the breaker is a great choice! Honostly i'd suggest you play the game its from, Bastion, such amazing music in that game. Also Transistor, from the same team. They are amazing for good music in games
Shenmue OST, FF8 OST, Hollow Knight OST, Jet Set Radio OST, Civ 4 - Baba Yetu, Chrono Cross OST, Silent Hill 4 OST... some of them are never spoken of...
Let me know if you like this! I'm super excited about this new series :) also here's the link to the pierrot lunaire that was muted: ua-cam.com/video/Sn9pvwDeNzE/v-deo.html
I would love to hear your commentary on the Latin chanting in Vode An from Republic Commando!
I think its a great format!
You get to listen to some great tracks and also learn more about a creator you might not be as familiar with.
He should listen to Roblox pressure osts don’t you guys agree
Touhou 15 Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom OST
No no no, do all Touhou OSTs, CDs, albums
Credit my suggestion, bro

2nd best video Marco has made! Congratz dude.

Right off the bat with Dearly Beloved. And actually supporting the story of KH. I don't know who Bran is, but I love him already
KH goes unmatched

And Attack on Tarir for a dose of PANIC. My favorite might be Mordremoth (the track) though. And that's just for Heart of Thorns.
Attack on Tarir for the action, Rata Novus for the feeling of what was lost. The whole GW2 OST is amazing, honestly
Nooo way I actually requested this a long time ago. But I bet that's not mw, so thanks for introducing GW2 whoever you are 🔥

Love all the collabs going around :)
39:55 [sound of chains breaking] NOT AGAIN
Highly recommend starting out with lvl70 savage of Exdeath fight (deltascape 4.0 i think)
you should definetly check out music from the OG Ragnarok online mmorpg, there is a music for each and every map.
that's ultra amazing idea for video series.
I should try playing Bastion again. I got a fair way into it I think but my PC bricked . . . twice.
Bastion getting mentioned was not on my 2024 bingo card
You should definently check out the sound track to Skylanders Spyro's adventure. i recently got into a nostalgia mood and was blown away how amazing the soundtrack really was.
GW2 is the best game to take your time in and appreciate the music and the scenery. The game almost never rushes you, and rewards you for exploring, while still having a checklist of stuff to do if you get lost. I recommend listening to Fear not This Night!
one of my favorite games of all time at this point. i LOVE it.
There's some gw2 music scattered around on his channel.
Sprechstimme translates straight to speaking voice.
Thank you so much for typing that
I've been wanting to know since the Bedman theme video
I'd love more bran cameos
Also, I went and found a Pierrot Lunaire performance by the Curtis Institute - and weirdly, I vibe with it.
You should listen to some of the music from the old Baldurs gate 2 game from 20 years ago. Especially the expansion 'Throne of bhaal'.
"Bhaal Spawn battle" & "Melissan Battle" are pretty epic.
Bran's reaction to Return to Oblivion being a mixture of love and disgust because of his experience in E8S is so real. Light Rampant was no joke!
No matter how many times I listen to, I love seeing how much Daredevil gives first time listeners blue balls with its drop teases before it finally gives the Big Drop.
Oh man I've been commenting about tarir for a while now, heart of thorns was really the upturning point in my investment in gw2 this past year
Return to Oblivion's lyrics is 🎵 "Again and Again and Again and Again" 🎶
Man, the music of Ace Combat is great. I'm getting goosebumps all over. Never played any of these games, but it seems I have to.
Most of the technologies shown in the video, especially the swarm of drones starting from a transport plane, are all in development or already deployed. Shields not so much 🙂. The developer seems to pay attention to detail.
I rarely notice music until someone calls it out, but apparently I absorbed Tahrir, because I recognized that whole piece.
pretty sure that wasnt a voice you heard in Bynn the Breaker.
-Sinh, the Slumbering dragon
-Menu Theme
-Aldia, Scholar of the first sin
-Fume Knight
-Burnt Ivory King
-Demon of Song
-Ancient Dragon
Give them a chance!
Very relatable to get nightmares about that
OMG Guild Wars 2! I miss that Viney place....
Marco and Bran collab!!! POG
I have! Just haven’t finished it 😂
Malukah's voice always gives me chills.
Shenmue OST, FF8 OST, Hollow Knight OST, Jet Set Radio OST, Civ 4 - Baba Yetu, Chrono Cross OST, Silent Hill 4 OST... some of them are never spoken of...
I have NEVER heard ANY of these tracks (except Dearly Beloved)
the most unexpected crossover event in recent years that we didn't know we needed
When you get the chance, check the Sonic Frontiers OST island themes, particularly the theme for Rhea Island.
I couldn't name just a couple pieces but Top 3 Game Soundtracks have to be Skyrim, Cyberpunk, and Destiny (1 and 2)
