    Shara, I love the fact you thought of things in terms of a set instead of each piece at a time. I think you did the same thing for your parents office. Great job! You've motivated me to get out in my own garage/shop and make some sort of attempt at being creative. Looking forward to your next video. I can't imagine your brain resting for very long after completing this one! Thanks for sharing!

      Yes! I did do the same for my parent's office. This is actually my third "matching set" and I really enjoy building multiple pieces and trying to tie in various details to make the designs "match" each other. I'd love to do a few more sets in the future! I'm so glad you have been inspired by my videos and projects and I truly appreciate you following along! Happy building!

So the double drawer ones you see are the ones I’m currently using in my home and before I got photos of this bed, I just swapped them out with the ones that matched. I grew up in the Midcentury Modern era and always thought the look was rather meh.
    But your stuff ready looks great! I think it must be the extra color and figuring in the plywood rather than the monochrome of the original stuff.
    Well done!

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому

      Thanks so much! I've always thought the dark wood in mid century style stuff was nice, but also kind of boring. I always like to use the "character" pieces in my projects--the ones most people don't like haha. I like the color variation and the lighter woods to give it extra visual interest without me having to do extra work on it. (I guess that kind of makes me lazy haha). Anyway, I'm glad you like the design and I appreciate you watching!

  • @scottmorris4914
    @scottmorris4914 3 роки тому

    I always wonder, that when you bought your plywood, if you had access to Baltic Birch. It is a stinger plywood, 13 plus for 3/4”. Then this past week I built something for the grandson. Used Baltic birch for the main Piece and maple veneered plywood (Home Depot). I finished it with just water based polyurethane. The maple finished off so much nicer. The BB needs 4 coats, the Maple I honestly could have left it at two. My next project is a sink cabinet for my shop. I was going to go with BB for strength, etc, even thought may not be needed. After this I think I am going with the maple veneered.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому +1

      I don’t have Baltic available in my area. But I’ve used a lot of different brands of plywood from a lot of different places and I always use PureBond birch or maple from Home Depot as it’s the best I have found and I have zero complaints with it. If it works, I don’t see a reason to switch. Plus, it’s reasonably priced and readily available 👍😊 it’s good stuff…and I’m not paid to say that…I buy it with my own hard earned cash haha.

    Love the series. I really need to build this! Do you sand or use a round over bit at all on the plywood edges? Is Lucy on vacation? :)

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks so much! I left the edges square. They’ll get a little “rounded” from sanding off the edge banding, but it’s not significant. I personally don’t like the look of rounded edges, so I keep things square. But if you wanted them softer, you could round them, but the plys would show. If you rounded, I’m suggest using solid wood vs ply.
      And also, Lucy is still kicking it with me, but spends most of her time chilling in the chairs on the front porch 😂 she will make a grand appearance in my next video though 😁😉 she’s the real star of the show haha

    Wow!!! I love this! I truly would love to make this project, wood has gotten pretty pricey lately but could you give us the price you made the bed for... roughly? I'm looking for inexpensive! (hence building myself) are you self taught? 😊 Thank you

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  2 роки тому

      Price has changed greatly since I made it and I honestly don’t remember what it cost then. But I have a materials list in the description and the plans linked in the description and I’d recommend checking prices for those materials in your area (prices vary by location as well) to get a rough estimate on cost currently.
      I am self taught…just learning as I go for the last about 7-8 years now. I’ve got tons of helpful guides and info on my website you can check out woodshopdiaries.com

    the bed looks really slick, but it would never hold my weight, i would have to use around 4 or 5 layers of glued plywood and 4x4 for the legs

    You should make a master template for those legs instead of always measuring them.

      Thanks so much! I probably should make a template. But honestly, I'd probably lose it or forget I had it whenever I needed it haha

    Is this frame made for a box spring or is there only room for a mattress?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  2 роки тому

      Only mattress. The frame replaces the box spring

    my only concern with this build is the sheer weight of all that plywood...and also, will the side pieces try to warp themselves?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  2 роки тому

      Plywood…solid wood…MDF…either way it’s all going to have some weight. Any bed will. If sealed and you use cabinet grade plywood, it shouldn’t warp.

    As someone with a bit of extra weight on her, what could I do to reinforce the frame?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 роки тому +1

      One option to add more substance to the frame is to use 2x material vs 3/4” plywood. For the legs, you could also substitute square posts (like 4x4s) or make two legs per corner from 2x material and glue them together for a larger support at the corners. That’s just a few options to help. For the slats, you could also use 2x4s instead of 3/4” plywood and use 2x4s for the vet yet supports vs 2x2s.
