Barton is like Buffalo Trace's cross-eyed stepsister but she's a freak in the sheets
🤣😂
Sorry you had a crap single barrel. Had a glorious one last year. Butterscotch B!tch Slapper! At $45 it had me keep my eyes open for the other 1792 special releases.
I too have a Bottled In Bond store pick and that too is fantastic. Just recently found a 12 year. It started strong but was a bit weaker on a recent sip. I could've been off that day. And I have a crap Full Proof store pick. Hot garbage. It's two years old and is still a flame thrower. Blech!
I got a full proof and grabbed the BiB becuz it was there. And thought I was of unpopular opinion that I enjoy the BiB more. I thought it was just me.
Even after these months; I stick with my order! Man I love the bib
I have 3 out of 5 ( small batch excluded ) I’m missing the sweat wheat and 12 yr and my collection will be set😁 oh FYI… I have the store pick of the single barrel 1792, mines not like yours buddy
I must have gotten a REALLY good SiB. It’s sweet, good finish. Wish I would have grabbed 2
At this point, I feel like my bottle is the clear outlier and not the norm!
My SiB is delicious. High rye is meh. Not bad not great. Full Proof is my favorite. BiB is great, but FP is where 1792 shines, IMO. I’ve had 1 regular that was great. 2 store pics were amazing. Yes they drink hot, but the flavor is amazing.
How does that high rye taste compared to any of the others? I have no idea what I’d expect out of it. It’s also crazy seeing people who have such good sib when mine is so bad. Huuuuge range of flavors it seems. But it goes for the full proof too, I had a pick which is not good at all, and I’ve had a pick that is absolutely amazing
@@TheBourbonWrench high rye is different it’s like a spicier small batch, if that makes any sense, but there are some flavors that are off putting. I don’t tend to like Barton’s high rye mashbill in general, so take that for what it’s worth. I’d pick almost any other 1792 over high rye, except Sweet Wheat. That one is probably my F tier.
I’ve only hade small batch and I love it
Well you have lots of goodies to choose from next!
Small Batch, decent.
Sweet Wheat, decent
Full Proof, I have but have not tried yet
12 year, I have but have not tried yet
Bottled in Bond, I do not have yet
Single Barrel, I do not have yet
I pretty much agree with you Trev except I really like sweet wheat. In a blind it came out on top vs the bib, sib and fp with sib in last and not even belonging ...
Guess it’s time for me to blind!!!
I think on their website all of their products except the 12yr is 8yrs old. Pretty interesting.
I have a have a single barrel that slaps.. and I have a single barrel that claps.. I’m basically saying my two single barrels are Lizzo’s cheeks
I don’t know what to say other than I want to taste your cheeks…
@@TheBourbonWrench bahahahahah
It is funny cause I cannot find anything other than their basic bottle lol
That’s all we currently have on the shelf, and the others just randomly show up
Wow, I have had some exceptional 1792 single barrel bottles. I am a big fan of 1792 offerings.
Same here.
Is your BIB ranking based on the pick in your hand or the shelf bottle?
I ask because my opinion on Small batch is exactly in line with yours. I LOVE full proof... and BIB (all 3 are std bottles, no picks) is well... Exactly what you'd guess. It's like if you took 20% Full proof and 80% Small batch and mixed them. It tastes Much MUCH more like small batch than like full proof... and is just disappointing. Especially considering it's basically unobtainable in my state (whereas Small batch is available year round, even in cheap 1.75's)... just feels like a waste of a bottle. If I won it in a lottery, I'd pass.
Full proof though? Yum.
I like your list, but you must have just been the unluckiest guy ever on your single barrel. I have had 3 and they have all been fantastic.
For a standard bourbon, I like 1792 small batch more than most others in its price range (BT, WT101, OF 100, EC), but I’m a big fan of red fruit notes, so it plays into my preferences. Full Proof, at $45-50, is the best value in whiskey right now imo, especially the picks. Haven’t found a BiB in my area.
I’ve had both ends of the full proof picks. Had one that was mediocre and one that was phenomenal! Love the standard bottle too. When I’m in the mood for it, I can be easily swayed to put it on top
Give the Bullet barrel proof a try. It's also a solid choice at $49.
Full Proof is #1 one of my favorite bourbons
Regular version or a store pick you’ve had? There’s some definite amazing bottles out there!
S tier? A tier? Can you explain?
The tier system comes from video game culture. Basically S tier system is the best tier. Something to do with the Japanese alphabet, but just know it means really good haha!
Everything but the small batch disappeared from my area like a year ago. Annoying because I love their line up
Same here man. My local hasn’t had any other bottle in quite a while!
You lost me at “I am not a fan of Weller!”
Look at it this way Billy; you have one less person trying to win a bottle hahaha
Their Port Finish is now bottled under Thomas Moore.
Sorry, but my Single Barrel is the best 1792 one I have. The only 1792 I do not have is the 12-year.
Really?? Maybe I need to get another one to compare. Amazing though that there’s such a disparity between barrels
@@TheBourbonWrench Yeah, but it could just be our tastes are different on this one. But your list is a great one.
@@damoncrutchfield3018 while I believe everyone’s palate is different, I genuinely believe I just got a bad barrel or something. They probably should’ve just blended it in with some others hahaha
Sorry to hear about your single barrel experience. I picked my first one up 3 weeks ago and absolutely love it! Sounds like I got lucky
I agree. I've got several full proofs and this sb taste very similar without the heat-although I do like the full proof a lot
Funny i preferred my FP 1792 than my stagg but it was a store pick
My singe barrel store pick was exceptional, exceptionally gross, almost turned me off the whole brand, its also the only bottle I have that sweats if that makes any sense
Bro I Love me some 1792. BiB was my fav, until I got my latest full proof. Delicious!
I have an unopened single barrel that I was excited to try until I saw this… hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised. I LOVE the sweet wheat, and Full Proofs that ibjabe
Only change I would make is to put the small batch in the B category. I too was very disappointed in the sweet wheat, and I have had some 1792 full proofs that were very hot (the store picks seem to be the way to go with the full proof). Great video Trev!
Cheers man! I still do LOVE the full proof. I had to knit pick and knock it, but man they are still so good. Some of them are pure fire though for sure, kinda like the old forester picks
Super S Tier = SS Tier 😂 keep up the good vids. I've had good single barrels and bad ones as well.
This tier list brings a tear to my eye.
Don’t be sad Eric, be glad
My single barrel is phenomenal, it smells like Cinnabon
This is a great tier list!! Great review buddy. I love the BIB
Cheers you NERD!!!
I have a Bib single barrel and a Full Proof single barrel
I randomly find the 1792 Full Proof, but the BiB is very few and far between. I've only ever found the BiB on two occasions. I'm nursing a bottle of BiB right now and it is fantastic! I've seen the Single Barrell a couple times, but never bought one. Glad I didn't. I agree with you about the Full Proof drinking hot. That was my experience too. I let it sit for a while and came back to it and it has mellowed down.
I’d still give the single barrel a try if you ever stumble across one. There’s tons of people in the comments talking about having a great bottle, so I think it might be worth finding out for yourself!
For me I'd be 12yr>>fp>Sib>sw>Bib/smb
I like the review and the ranking, over all. I totally dig the Small Batch. A staple in my cabinet. Just bought a FP. Very hot for me. It tastes great when the ice melts I must say. I am trying to find a BiB but are nonexistent in my area. Keep up the good work.
I was just drinking the 1792 12 year last night. One of my favorite whiskies ever. Cheers Trev!
It’s so dang good man!
I have a SiB that I was surprised how much I liked it. Super sweet and vanilla
Have you tried other single barrels and how did they compare? I’m scared to get another on lol
@@TheBourbonWrench I have only the one, but worth a while. You never know could find a gem.
I hear you like 12 year
Yeah some nerd keeps finding me bottles of it…he must do some shady things in the back…
@@TheBourbonWrench always from the back
Crazy, just watched a very reputable viewer say a 2023 single barrel was possibly one of their favorite bourbons of all time
Hopefully they aren’t the ones calling themselves “very reputable.” At the end of the day, every single channel on UA-cam are just people who enjoy bourbon and film selves drinking it. I wouldn’t put any content creator on any higher of a pedestal than anyone else who enjoys bourbon. Trust your own palate more than anyone else’s!
That being said, this single barrel is from years ago. Also, it was terrible. The very nature of single barrels can make that possible, but there was no excuse of this bottle being $50 when bottled in bond is $40. Im sure if I tried another one, maybe I’d rank higher. But that’s the nature of this; you could listen to one reviewer and they tell you it’s the best thing ever, you go to the store to get one…then you get a bottle like mine. Horrible. I’d take everything anyone says as a guide, not gospel. At the end of the day, all of our palates are different and no one is right or wrong. It’s just taste buds. The fact that there’s such variance in opinions is a good thing, otherwise bourbon would be quite boring. Cheers!
Just curious... what does the "S" stand for? I've seen other channels use similar tiers but I don't think anyone's said what it stands for.
I had to look it up because I also had no idea. I think it mainly comes from the Japanese grading system. The tier list got popular among video games and has just stuck. It’s the way it is now I guess lol
I passed on the 12 before😢
12 year is my favorite but I've only ever found one bottle. Same with the Bonded. Everybody and their mother does a full proof store pick though and those are pretty reliably good.
Nice ugly Christmas sweater, nerd.
Yeah I agree with that. FP picks aren’t super common, but still happen enough to be a reliable good barrel proof option
lets see this!
I have a single barrel that I love. I have a bottle of SB that is horrible!! I prefer my Kirkland SB over the 1792. Hoping I have a bad bottle as well.
Man it’s crazy how much variance there are between them!
Nailed it, although I am not quite the fan as you are of the Twelve Year. The Twelve Year would probably be in the A category for me. However, I am totally with you on the Sweet Wheat. Disappointing even when you can find it for $45.
How do you feel about the sourced 15 years and stuff like calumet? I’ve seen a lot of people who aren’t a fan of the older stuff. And yeah, I’m more mad that sweet wheat is allocated to raffles and stuff it’s just a shame
Great list. I love the single barrel I have. I'll have to send you a sample and see what you think!
I’m becoming more and more convinced that I drew the shortest stick and got the worst single barrel they put out hahaha
@@TheBourbonWrench thats the problem with Single barrels, so much variation.
Mostly agree with your ratings.
Someone mentioned strawberry banana yogurt on Small batch and I kind of understand. Has made that bottle better for me.
My single barrel is actually pretty good, probably A or B rated for me. Have hope!
I haven’t completely given up!!!
Sorry trev i couldnt hear you in this video because your hoodie is SO LOUD
ITS A PARTY OKAY
100 percent agree.
Great show! Very helpful you see, in my neck of woods, its one brand I see a lot of. Lately while all the allocated has been picked over, 1792 12 yr has been sitting there like the ugly dog at the pet store. I bought a few thinking 12 yr bourbon for 49.99$ what could go wrong? After watching this I am looking forward to cracking it open.
When you do, let me know what you think!!!
"I'd rather get a small batch and a punch in the face before getting this (the SB)" made me laugh so damn hard.
Cheers John! Glad my pain brings you joy 🤣
Oh man, I think I may have been outside when I fell in love with the Full Proof... and on a cold Autumn evening. But dang, SiB all the way at the bottom. I got one for $28 (I think the store committed an error), and passed on the BiB because I already had a Kirkland 1792 BiB.
You guys really trying to convince me to go buy a different one! I may cave in and give it a second chance!
That’s crazy about the SB. Mine is on of the best bourbons I’ve had
I’ve definitely had a couple of you guys say that. I’m starting to think that I got the worst possible barrel or a tainted one lol. It’s genuinely bad. Starting to think I need to get another one and test it. But if that one’s bad too….never again….
Had some real good single barrels- they have been store picks. In fact one store pick that I found in New Hampshire may have been one of the best 1792 bottles I ever had.
I MIGHT need to get one of those and try them! I couldn’t imagine them all sucking like the one I have
#1 Full proof
#2 BiB
Everything else
I knew people would really love that full proof! Both such good bottles to have
Great tier list Trev. I agree with all of that except for BIB. The BIB was fine to me but nothing special i much prefer the full proof to it. But we do align on the fact that the 12yr is the star of the show
Man I’m a total fan boy over that 12 year!
@@TheBourbonWrench yeah it was like 49 bucks a bottle too in pa when it dropped last year
I have a dilemma. I found bottle in bond and sweet wheat for $45. Which should I get?
I would buy a BIB every single time. It tastes so much better and I don’t think many people would argue against that statement.
@@TheBourbonWrench I bought both because sweet wheat is rare and I need to try a good wheated neat so I can find out if my palate prefers smooth wheat or if ryes can be friendly to my palate. So far I had only tried cheap whiskey, Canadian, Irish, scotch, and bourbon and so far I had only liked bourbons and some American whiskey.
My man!! With the 1792s I've had matches the experiences stated here. The 1792 SB I had a couple of years ago I gave away. The Bottled In Bond 1792 just rocks. What stinks about it is that in my area as soon as they land they're gone. 1792 Full Proof store picks are for me. The base line model was too hot. The rest I can't get at all.
Yep that’s how they are here. They’ll show up, sit there for a week tops, and gone. And it’s always a random one too. It’s been a hot minute since seeing a bottled in bond, so I’m gonna have to stock up if they drop
@@TheBourbonWrench hoping you get some of that 1792 Bib soon. You should've seen it here man. At my local Total Wine the got 1792 BIB store picks but accidentally priced them at 1792 Small Batch prices. They flew off the shelf in a day when word got out to the local Bourbon groups.
Great history lesson On 1792 bourbon.🥃
Cheers brother!!!
I tried Port and High Rye in a flight at a Louisville bar ~4 years ago but don’t remember much. Never tried 225th, the only other one not mentioned.
I’d put SW in “B”, otherwise my palate totally agrees with you!
Dang I forgot they had that 225th!
Found 2 bottles of Sweat Wheat on the shelf at retail, grabbed both but it sucks. Will find a trade home or gift home for the unopen one.
How much did you pay?
@@TheBourbonWrench $59 Cad=$43 US, I asssume that is retail or close to it
My single barrel was meh as well. I ended up telling my wife to use it for mixing. I do have a BiB store pick though that’s miles better
I’ve seen single barrel picks, I might need to give one a try but man I just hate the one I have lol
@@TheBourbonWrench the Bottle in Bond 1792 is a store pick. But going forward, I think I would pass on even a store pick of a single barrel. Maaaaaaybe if the price is right though
If you're going to just blatantly rip off the Bourbon Junkies bourbon tier list idea at least give them credit.
Hate to break it to ya, but the tier list idea most certainly didn’t come from them. This style of tier list is huge in video games. I actually mentioned this in the first one I did and mentioned that other channels have done this style of video. As they didn’t create the idea of a tier list, i find it unnecessary to “give them credit” every single time I do it. If I ripped anyone off, it’s some call of duty UA-camr because that’s who I watch.
Troll. If they invented the "tier list" then I'm the King of France. You're off by a hundred years, at least.
I've never had any 1792 before but it has been on my list to try. Managed to snag a full proof and a bottled in bond at an allocated drop this morning in South Carolina. I'm excited to try them.
only had the small batch and a full proof store pick. I like the small batch a lot more than you. I don't think it is simple, in fact in a blind for me it beat OF 1910 by quite a bit. Bourbon Junkies blinded 4 and Small batch won. Would love to try the BIB as I have never even seen one on a shelf.
I took 1) Unopened 1792 SiB 2) Barrell batch 31 3) Makers Mark Private Reserve 4) Old Early Times and 5) EHTaylor SiB to Thanksgiving gather for blind taste fun. I always toss in the ETimes as the low end wild card 😜. Very much to my surprise the 1792 was the top pick by majority. Just sharing feedback on their SiB. / ❤️ their BiB and FP, haven’t opened my 12YR.
That’s it Teo, you win! I’m gonna get a different bottle and give it a second chance 🤣
@@TheBourbonWrench I hope the result is much better bro
@@teofilstevenson it really always confused me how much I dislike it compared to all the others. I think something must’ve been wrong with it or something. But now I can blame you if the next bottle is bad 🤣
It's funny you have the Bib at s tier I'd have it in the B tier (mine was a non pick) and my single barrel would be an A tier for me.
You need to blind some of these…
I bet my results would totally change 🤣 I’m definitely ranking them based on how much I want to drink them lol
Nice video and glad I found it. I have never had any 1792. I am in a raffle Saturday and they will have the following 1792 offerings: Full Proof, Single Barrel, Sweet Wheat, Aged Twelve Year, and Bottled in Bond. This gives me an idea of what to hope to get.
I have 2 1792 single barrels that actually tasted like the label said. Butterscotch and honey/vanilla
Great review! I have a small batch 26.00 that’s really good, and bottle in bond 40.00 that’s awesome! Still catching up on all the videos! Great job
I can agree with standard FP as an A, but the store picks drink way less hot and are way better at an S
On a real note this is exactly how i would rank them
We are one in the same
@@TheBourbonWrench ONE OF US
Got a 1792 12 year for Christmas...Merry Christmas to me! 😁👍
Great video Trevor. I thought you nailed the list although honestly I’ve had a good experience with my SiB bottle so I wonder if you got a bad one or maybe revisit it in a few months.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
Cheers nerd!!!
Great list! like most 1792
I agree…the BIB is my total favorite.
I am always on the lookout for any 1792 variations. The small batch is the only one that is on the shelf around me. I stopped at an out of the way liquor store and was able to find the 1792 Full Proof. I paid more than I wanted, but picked it up for $65, since this was the first time I saw it. Would like to find the BIB, 12 year and Single Barrel. Great review.
I’ve managed to acquire small batch, single barrel, 12 year and full proof. I only managed to get the 12 year by chance when my local store got a few of them in and were selling for retail (about $65 after taxes). I went to New Jersey this past weekend and scored he full proof. I really really really want the Bib but haven’t seen it anywhere. Many people don’t realize there is an orange label “high rye” bottle as well. Haven’t seen too many people talking about it.
I have store picks of the bottled in bond and full proof. Both are good, but I like the B+B better. It is enjoyable to drink, while not trying to melt your face off .
And sometimes I’m in the mood for a little extra heat and face melting lol. Definitely good to own them both!
When I get a bottle of 1792, I get a medicinal cherry when I first open it. It goes a way after a few weeks and the whiskey becomes quite nice. I think the higher spice on this bourbon makes it more polarizing than others and partly why you say the full proof drinks so hot.
I can totally see that. Maybe I need to let my glass of full proof sit a little while longer
In the early part of this year, I found a 1792 single barrel that was rather nice. It's sad to think that there might not be any consistency in the development of this bourbon but, it is what it is, I guess.
That’s what I’m starting to think too. I mean, there’s obviously going to be differences between barrels, but to have that wide of range between them is pretty crazy
@@TheBourbonWrench I'm hoping that there aren't many differences in the next batch of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel that hits the shelves. The one that I have now is absolutely amazing! The only problem is that it seems to be leaking out prematurely! I've checked the bottle but, the only hole that I could find was right under the cork!
Yikes.. 1792 is just one label I can't find one a like and have had a couple small batch and full proof I'd put at a D. They consistently have this funky chemical new carpet thing going on with them. Tried a couple small batch, 1 BIB, 3 different full proofs (1 was a pick). Just not my jam. But to each their own. I know a lot of folks speak highly of the label.
Dang man talk about some bad luck!! Luckily I haven’t come across a brand my palate disagrees with. When you find that note you really dislike, your brain will find it in the other offerings. It’s like you become hyper aware of the notes you hate lol. At least you gave them a fair shot!
@@TheBourbonWrench agreed. And thankfully there's 300 other brands to buy :)
