  • Here is another lecture video for my class on the psychological aspects of drug use and abuse. This one is the second in my two-part series on stimulants. It focuses on on different types of amphetamines, including methamphetamine. As usual, the lecture video covers the natural and social history of these drugs, as well as some important aspects of their pharmacology and psychology.

The dilemna is the paranoia involved in the medical racket, where ASKing contraindicates the rationale of using amphetamines. I think it's bullcrap, both my guy n I have got adds simply by saying, I'm distractible, start things and finish them later, and the KICKER is: it's MADDENING when I go into another room and FORGET WHAT I WANTED. This is attention deficit n my guy says they NEVER prescribed them to adults in the 1970s or '80s, in any case anyone can get a beneficial return from taking stimulant alkaloids but the abuse potential is such that a certain amount of people will get stimulated but then waste their time listening to music or repetitive stuff like housecleaning or cleaning, which altho repetitive still beats masturbating lol

So is Euphoria an improper symptom caused by overdose of a prescribed Amphetamine medication?
NO, euphoria literally means feeling good, feeling normal. We, who are not chemically imbalanced, feel Euphoric most of our lives. So those who feel Euphoria from Amphetamines are merely feeling what its like to be normal.

As someone who uses methamphetamine and dextroamphetamine too much, if I had a choice between methylphenidate and MDMA, I'd chose the MDMA. Methylphenidate might be more of a traditional stimulant but you can just tell it's not an amphetamine and MDMA is. I can see why you would include methylphenidate while distinguishing MDMA but yeah just my 2 cents.

I appreciate your effort in creating and sharing this. It is difficult to find accurate information on this subject. While I am sure your intentions were good, I did notice some mistakes. The following is a list of the most unambiguous errors:
Edeleanu never named the substance amphetamine. He was not employed by SKF and was not the one to discover the pharmaceutical effects of amphetamine. He was simply the first to synthesize it and describe its synthesis in 1887 at the University of Berlin. Edeleanu went on to become a very succesfull innovator in the petrochemical industry and his methods continue to be used today.
The discovery of amphetamine's pharmaceutical properties happened 40 years later. Therefore, amphetamine was not used in WWI.
Gordon Alles discovered the pharmaceutical effects of amphetamine in 1927 and received a patent in 1932. SKF bought the rights and began marketing Benzedrine shortly thereafter. Amphetamine sulfate was only used by the Allies in WWII, the Axis powers used methamphetamine instead.
Amphetamine sulfate is not "chemically modified" to obtain dextroamphetamine: Amphetamine sulfate IS 50% dextroamphetamine sulfate. The two isomers are just separated.
Amphetamine sulfate is not usually "tinkered with" to get methamphetamine. Methamphetamine hydrochloride was synthesized independently and studied separately from amphetamine sulfate. Manufacturers offered it as an alternative in markets where SKF controlled the patent to amphetamine or in markets where amphetamine was unavailable, such as in Nazi Germany where the brand Pervitin was sold.
MDA and MDMA are hallucinogens with stimulant properties. Gordon Alles subsequently also discovered their effects, and was rather bemused by them. An interesting fact is that the effects of more then half of substituted amphetamines are not predominantly "amphetamine like" (stimulating). This is not a mistake, just an interesting fact.
You meant to say amphetamine has a longer "duration of action" then cocaine. While it also has a longer halflife, it is the duration of action or the "high" that is relevant to what you say next.
"Faces of Meth" is a problematic for multiple reasons. It has received academic criticisms for racial bias, invasion of privacy, and promoting public shaming of addicts. Most importantly, it is simply not an accurate portrayal of the vast majority of people dependent on amphetamine. Most amphetamine abuse is discreet, utilitarian, and externally invisible. It affects people of all races, ages and socioeconomic conditions. Most are either gainfully employed or enrolled in some form of education with the intention of becoming gainfully employed. These people are equally at risk, even if they don't look like they were hit by a bus prior to having had their mugshot taken.
There is unncecesary silence from 40:35 to 41:24
Again this is all intended as constructive criticism and I appreciate your overall effort.
