Been listening to Mr Schenker since he was 16. I have all original albums from Scorpions to UFO to the various MSG line ups to solo instrumentals. The absolute best at melodic riffs & solos that blend so well while screaming speed, technique, and fluidity! Nobody can do what he does. He fell through the cracks, never gets mentioned with the greats but he could very well BE the greatest of all time.
Go back, listen to the genius folks. He's Eddie Van Halen before Eddie. He was fast, creative, but more melodic, could play the blues while stunning with acoustic.
This video proves there is no gap between 1979 and 2022.

Two TOTALLY different styles here guys. Agree Michael is great.. but no one can take away the influence EVH had on the world of guitar. Every guitar manufacturer built a single humbucker strat with Floyd roses because of Eddie. He changed all the rules in how to play a guitar as well as how to build a guitar, to how to build an amp, to how to mod everything to suit you. Eddie was an original that sounded like no one, he was an inventor, the floyd rose was a collaboration between him and Floyd rose, Eddie’s idea, Floyd just machined it for Eddie. Eddie invented the “d tuna”, if you know what that is, he’s the reason humbuckers are wax dipped now to calm the hum, the EVH amp line , the list goes on and on and on with Eddie’s contributions to the music world, dude, you can not even begin to compare Micheal Schenker to Edward Van Halen. Two entirely different books in two entirety different libraries man. Michael is a great player, Eddie was a great inventor, an innovator, and rule breaking creator. Micheal has done none of these things. Another absolute fact, is Edward Van Halen has influenced millions and millions of guitarist over many many different genres of music from rock/metal/blues/jazz/country/pop , you name it. Michael hasn’t come close to that. Not everyone even knows his name. Everyone on planet earth from 10 years old to 90 knew who Eddie was.
I love Micheal Schenker.. love the European classical influenced style, incredible vibrato, always has an amazing tone. Great great great musician. But I can bet your ass he too was influenced by Edward Van Halen. SMH 🤦♂️
@@Plowguitarist although you make many factual points, there's a simple FACT that you did not get quite right: NOT everyone from 10-90 knows the name Edward Van Halen. Not even today's musicians (I use the term EXTREMELY LOOSELY) all know who he was! He is in his own class for all of the reasons you said, but there's a limit to the influence he had on other musical styles and musicians. Not just guitar players, but even the other three or four instruments in just a basic rock band: drums, bass, keys, and voice. You might be shocked to know that the larger percentage of music from the past 20 years DON'T HAVE A CLUE who Edward was!

Very few guitarists frame a solo like Michael Schenker. I've listened to this three times now and I love it. Some guitar gods never fade.

Yeah, he’s great at not playing any Cliché licks here. The first part begs you to play Harmonic Minor but he keeps that to a minimum. Then at the end the chords are moving a lot and his phrasing is keeping lock step with the progression chord by chord.

Interesting main riff...for a while anyway. Chorus is horrible. Drums are boring as hell and annoying. Singer has an excellent voice but needs better material.
Lyrics by Michael Voss, who also produces, Schenker needs to get rid of him, he hasn't done anything worthy of his legacy since he's started using Voss as his producer, of course that's my opinion, but I'm sure some will agree.

Hmmm…. Not really convinced… his solo is basically scales up and down all the time. Several comments reg the drummer have been made already… the production is mediocre. It feels as if Michael wants to put out music all the time in recent years. Maybe too much!

Yes I think you're right, exotic, Middle Eastern style note selections, it's lovely stuff. It's very controlled. To play like that is sometimes harder to play at that tempo than faster, it's great technique. I find the drums really interesting too, the syncopation and the accents.

If you don't stretch, try new things, and expand your creativity as a musician, you die. Btw, Obsession is in my top 5 albums of all time, so don't even try to go there. You definitely want to stay away from Michael's playing. He's not a 23 year old kid trying to find 'his voice'. He's a veteran who has influenced tens of thousands of people to pick up an instrument and CREATE. Key word there. He has been 100% about CREATING since he 'found' his voice, and that was right after... you guessed it, OBSESSION!! I wouldn't want to be ya, A B C ya.

Production needs to improve by making the guitar stand out more. Sounds too blended in and muffled. Michael is the star and why we are here, let's see a little more spotlight.

Terrible mix. Guitar almost inaudible with invisble bass underneath it. Nobody seems to notice that Michael NEVER varies the tempo of his solos anymore and never plays fast. Ever. Bizarre. Relisten to this solo and every solo on his last couple albums. I'm not advocating fast playing but he NEVER varies tempo anymore.

Some negativity in here. I really like the song, don't mind the double bass drums at all. Sounds great to me. My only nag is I'm not crazy about the production, just like with the last record. It sounds somewhat flat and muffled imo.

He should really stop with the double drum bass thing. It doesn't suit michaels style and make the song very boring. I wont say it is a bad song but it is not very strong either.

Yes, you're right. 1. Michael needs a producer like Ron Nevison who gave him a more aggressive and dominant guitar sound.
2. The more I hear that drummer the more I miss Cozy Powell.
3. For the song-writing Michael needs help from a strong keyboard player like Paul Raymond was or Danny Peyronel (very good job on NO HEAVY PETTING).
The vocals are ok. Better than Barden/McAuley and so on. Not as good as Phil Mogg.

Михась Шенкер, Братья Шенкеры это епоха! А Ромеро хм, талант спору нет, но заигрался.. перегорел что ли . Обычно Вокалисты в группе на 5-10 лет.. а не на Один альбом.. записать, уйти. это не правильно. Нужно творить Историю музыки!

Decent song, but where's the power in Michael's playing? His solo sounds very weak and uninspired, and the production overall sounds very muddy. Disappointed!
He needs to get rid of Voss, and get someone that pushes him to get aggressive in his playing. This sounds like Michael on cruise control, but he needs to be pushing the pedal down to the floor, and going into the stratosphere.

Saw this after some Michael interview. O,K. a new release. Not crazy about the vocalist but when Michael gets playing, great. I wish he'd do a ballad here and there where he's restrained and the guitar soars. The staccato thing is alright but...I'll be listening to the next and the next video releases.
