So many memories so many epic battles with friends and a few lost friends after an epic blowout. I still have it 30 years later and the internal battery still holds stats which is amazing. Good job Tecmo!! 👍
Also one thing that Tecmo Super Bowl had that no other football game has ever included, when you team won their division, wether you won a game to clinch or you simmed through the weeks, it would show every team winning it, even though it was a still picture and it announced your team won the division, was such an awesome small moment as a kid. For Christmas that year, my mom bought me Ryan Sandburg's Baseball. I asked her if I could swap it for Tecmo Super Bowl and she said yes. My brother and I drove around town for three hours until I found it. To this day, the most fun I've had playing a football game. It set the bar for what football sims would be for years to come. Good times.
I'm SO glad you'll be covering Retro Bowl! Discovered this game a few months back and am pretty floored at how great it is. Player/Staff morale, upgradeable facilities, fan happiness, franchise mode with scouting and a draft with league history and awards, fun gameplay (only offense and kicking, no defense). But I really love it!
I just discovered 2 weeks ago. My son and nephew introduce it to me and I love it. Hope they tweak a bit more to make it even more fun. Maybe stats from other teams to challenge you, and when you cut or release players have them go to other players where you have a chance to play against.
I remember all the kids on our street would play full seasons with our team of choosing. It was amazing. You’d have the one guy that played Philly because he could pass the ball or just run Randell. The other guys would pick LA and KC because of Bo and Okoyea. I liked picking Houston, because it was a passing team. Washington also had a different roster them most. This game was amazing back in the early 90’s
I'm so glad my father introduced me to this game. I am Gen Z, so I wasn't alive when this game was made, but thanks to him, I got to experience the best football game ever made
@@lucash5106 I'd say Tecmo Super Bowl, PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era Madden and the NFL 2K series is the three best football games ever made for different reasons.
I spent 200+ hours in 1991 lmao. I've played this game inside out, diagonally and reverse. Played it when it first dropped, played it on the SNES, played it when I went to my first duty station in the Marines in 1998...played it with the roster updates and tweaks. It's the GOAT.
this game is timeless.....the gameplay will forever hold up. tecmo bowl in the arcade started it all and tecmo super bowl took it to the next level for home consoles. so easy to pick up and play but yet so challenging. it was the madden before madden. was it arcadey? yes, but that's what makes it so appealing. are the graphics next gen? no, but they don't need to be for a game this good. thanks, softdrink for finally giving this game it's due praise.
The SNES Tecmo Bowl was the one I fondly remember. The chills I got seeing that intro and hearing that music man....wow. Thanks for the nostalgia hit SoftDrink!
Would love to see a retro bowl video, it’s a great game for a mobile game. It’s easy to pick up and play but has enough depth to keep people coming back
1991 i was 10 and my life changed forever when I got this game . Many many hours played on this game. My brother and I bonded over this also. When we met in the Super Bowl it was intense . Lol. I have my original NES and this game still. I am getting my NES tuned up with all the parts being replaced. I am also getting the battery replaced in the game so I can once again save my seasons . I plan on playing every team on season mode. I dropped both them off for repair today. Cant wait. This game is perfect in that the games are not overwhelmingly long so if you need to get quick game in its easy. Its a very simple easy to navigate format but still detailed enough to keep one interested. Such as stat tracker, injuries , subs , playbooks , playoffs , standings ect. Simple to the point no long loading screens bs. Simply made for a quick and entertaining football game. The best .
my favorite part was getting a safety on the running back and then knocking the quarterback off of the screen with someone like lawrence taylor, derrick thomas or reggie white, basically anyone with a hitting power of 63 or more
One of my favorite games ever! I remember seeing an ad in nintendo power and being stoked because I loved Tecmo Bowl. I got tecmo super bowl Christmas 91 i was 11 i remember my dad had to go to a special video game store to get a copy because it either was sold out or some stores didn't carry it and he bought it in late October early November. My dad lmk he had and would let me take a peek at the box and it fueled my excitement. From Xmas 91and on i had numerous weekend sleepovers with friends and cousins and we would play season after season or simulated season after season and keep track of how many suoer bowls conference and division titles and add up all the stats over multiple years! Love and miss that game its a all time great if not the goat of sports games
Ty so much for doing this video, I remember when this came out on the nes it was amazing first time I seen all the nfl teams because the first one didn't and me being a buffalo bills fan i was loving it with backups, injuries, etc. It was awesome i played the shit out of this game.
5:52 is the very reason Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES was the greatest!! lt had the biggest differences between starters and backup players ratings!! Made it more realistic and challenging when a starter was injured!!
Thanks for making this video; you did such a great job on it! It's my all time favorite game, and it was the reason I got into football and sports games back in the early 90s. One of my favorite memories was camping out in a tent in my friends backyard in 1992 with an extension cord running out to a 13 inch TV and an NES and playing TSB all night. We had a season mode where we had control of two teams each. I had Houston and Kansas City (I'm still a Chiefs fan to this day!) It took me a couple of games, but I scored my first touchdown with Haywood Jeffires, pro bowl receiver of the Oilers at the time. Earlier this year, I sent him an autograph request letter in the mail mentioning that he was the first player I had a TD with in Tecmo, and he sent two of my cards back signed!
My best friend throughout HS and college knew this game inside and out. He had most teams playbooks memorized and knew what plays they were running based on formation and the skin color of the RBs in different positions. I think this game and NHL94 sit atop the pinnacle of sports gaming if not all video gaming history as the best of the best.
I still remember my brothers and I getting this game for Christmas in ‘91. We put in hours of gameplay and still play it to this day. Wonderful memories of the best sports game of all time!
That's exactly the same comment I' made. Me and my brother got it for christmas, and it was a surprise because it was on a waiting list and was released just a couple days before Christmas. My mom going to call from Toys r Us. We played like 15 games on Christmas Day and then had to go to Grandma's house for 2 weeks in Boston. Took us forever to get back to Play it again
I love all the Tecmo football games ("Tecmo Bowl" was later fun to play with girls/women for me:-). "Tecmo Super Bowl II: The Special Edition" is amazing to me, since it has 3-year rosters from the 1992-1994 seasons and is also so rare (I purchased it once from Amazon for 51 $; I never thought I'd ever have a chance to play it). "Tecmo Super Bowl III: The Final Edition" is also pretty great, and I enjoyed player editor, the updated rosters, expansion teams, and of course the gameplay.
Man I only played that special edition one time and I never played any of the ones that came after that. What systems were it on? Super NES or Genesis?
Popcorn city. Okoye is the ultimate underrated player on TSB. Can be as fast as upper level RB's but that 100 hit power means he just completely popcorns damn near every defender if he's in the open field. I wouldn't even zig zag with him...I'd just hope I could have them bounce off me.
This (Tecmo Super Bowl NES) is DEFINITELY the OG and my favorite NFL video game of ALL TIME. All Madden titles seem to fade away after one season, but this one doesn't. I started playing it when I was 5 or 6, I am 31 now and I still enjoy it just as much. Everything from the gameplay to the soundtrack is very VERY ENJOYABLE. What a MASTERPIECE!
Yeah I remember we got it for Christmas in 1990 or 91. We have been waiting 5 years or something for it to come out. My 3 days before Christmas and we got a call because we were on a waiting list. But we had to drive 600 mi to Grandma's house to spend two weeks so I didn't get to play it until January.
I didn't think someone wh primarily talked about Madden even was aware of the Tecmo Bowl Series. Well done my dude. Tecmo Super Bowl is one of my biggest passions and you've managed to get me to smile. Glad to see someone is also enjoying the games.
I remember this was the second game my dad bought for us to play on the NES, he would play season after season with his Redskins and the one thing I will never forget is the cutscenes of players being helped off the field by the coaching staff. Man, what a great game
While I didn't get the chance to play it when it first came out, I did discover it later on and was hooked! Back in 2002, I watched an entire season of the game with one of those updated roster mods and would play it every Sunday while watching the real NFL games on TV.
I still have the Original Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Bowl II, and Tecmo Bowl the Final Edition. And yeah.....I still play them on my Original Nintendo and Super NES System. Btw.... I'm 55... no shame in my game.
Thanks for an awesome video highlighting the video game GOAT. You're very correct, the TSB online community is alive and well. Over 1k members on TSB discord channel. The guys that created the modernized hacks and mods to all rosters continue to do so there. I think there's about 20 different online leagues going right now....all different mods including the OG, 2k, NCAA etc. All of this always leads to live tourneys as well around the country. Shoot me a message if you want the discord or more info to join up.
One of the coolest parts of getting this game as kid just getting into sports, the book that came with the game gave you a synopsis of the teams and players and what their style of play was. As well as rosters. I learned so much about the nfl through this game and nba with live 95
My favorite thing to do in tecmo is call a play action bootleg, take the ball back to the corner of the endzone with Aikman and launch it 100 yards to Kelvin Martin.
This game is epic, my favourite Christmas gift of All-Time. The fact that they were able to pack all of this goodness in an 8-bit cartridge is amazing.
Great video. So true about Tecmo Super Bowl 2. It was so hard to find upon release due to the fact that only 15,000 copies were made. I rented it from Blockbuster Video with the full intention of never returning it. They charged me $70 for the “loss” of the game. I would’ve paid triple that price. My friends and I played that game for a year straight. Good memories!
2:22 that was only done because Madden would not allow his name to be put on it unless it was made like that. It makes you think, what if he kept this way of making the game
My brother got this for Christmas when it came out back in '91. To this day it is THE game we STILL play full seasons of. In fact, we own 3 copies of the game now, just so we can each play a season by ourselves and the third game is the one we play head to head. It is safe to say, this game is one of the top games in our collections, regardless of how old it is... or how old we are!
TSB on NES was so awesome. Played many seasons trading off each game with my dad, getting to the playoffs and having to somehow beat the ridiculously OP 49ers or Giants. Or playing Barry against him playing Bo
I had heard about tecmo bowl my entire life, but I didn't get to play it until I was almost an adult. With that being said, out of all the football video games I've ever played, including Madden, including NFL Blitz, including 2K, tecmo Super bowl on the NES is my absolute favorite.
The injury music for the first three minutes gave me bad flashbacks. The NES version is one of my favorite sports games of all-time. Great retrospective.
It was the game I spent the most quarters on at the arcade. I literally saved my quarters just to play a full game of the original Tecmo Bowl. When it came to Nintendo man....on top of the world.
Tecmo Super Bowl 2 and 3 are definitely in my top 10 football games all time. Absolutely love them to this very day. Derek Henry is this generations football Bo Jackson. I say football because Bo played baseball as well.
I'm old enough to remember playing 10 Yard Fight on NES and Super Tecmo Bowl was that game. It was my favorite at the time as well as Baseball Stars and Blades of Steel
I was 10 years old when Tecmo Super Bowl came out. It was amazing. We hadn't seen something that deep before. I remember spending evenings when both my parents were at work diving through what felt like endless menus and stats. Such good memories.
Good video. I still enjoy them all. The last version that was available on the Sega Genesis when we could finally make trades was my favorite. Also, Mike Tysons Punch-Out is still a blast to play and one of the best sports games of all time.
I logged so many hours with this game I couldn't possibly calculate the total; from 1991-1993, this was the only game I really played, until the 1993 game came out for SNES. in 2004, I picked this game up again & played it on a NES knock-off (a Yobo, it broke), then in 2014 I picked up a Retro Duo and was back at it (my goal in 2015 was to win a Tecmo Super Bowl in every game using the Browns; I lost the Super Bowl to the Giants in the 2nd season of franchise mode in "Tecmo Super Bowl II: Special Edition" 38-35. I couldn't stop Phil Simms in his final game as a pixelated pro, but I won every other season).
I remember playing this game on Super Nintendo I’ll be up 4 to 5 am playing this when my parents would have big arguments this game helped me tune it noise. This game means a lot to me.
Great video! I remember playing this when it first came out and spent many seasons on this. I wish more people played the Tecmo NBA game, it had the same feature and impact that TSB but it gets swept under the radar
The fact that tecmo has never attempted to make a new tecmo bowl game installment in almost 20 years is fucking tragic instead being relegated to be glorified skins in dead or alive.
Definitely the best game that ever came out for Nintendo at least..I remember when this game dropped it was impossible to find for a couple months and my dad's new girlfriend at the time found it for me...been calling her "mom" ever since...lol happy Thanksgiving mom.😁😁😁😁
Loved the Raiders... Been a Raiders fan since before this game. Not only is Bo unstoppable, but if you play NT and the opponent isn't in shotgun, dive immediately for a instant for sure sack. A funny glitch.
I loved Tecmo Super Bowl because you could change your plays, too. And you could really get after the QB with great defenders like LT. There's updated ports of the game too with updated rosters.
Right in the nostalgia, my man! XD In the early 90s, my family and I were new to the U.S. My brother and I learned American-style football through Tecmo Bowl. How ironic that a Japanese-made game taught a couple of Korean-American brothers about NFL football. :P My brother is not so much a sports guy, but Tecmo Super Bowl made me a football freak for life.

My brother and I drove around town for three hours until I found it. To this day, the most fun I've had playing a football game. It set the bar for what football sims would be for years to come. Good times.
Best decision ever
The first videogame I ever played. I was 4 years old and my dad let me run a kick return. Iconic moment of my life! lol
My first video game was lego batman lol
Pathetic
Classic. These youngsters don’t even know
I'm so glad my father introduced me to this game. I am Gen Z, so I wasn't alive when this game was made, but thanks to him, I got to experience the best football game ever made
Oh yes I do one of the best games of all time
I was born in 97 and probably played Tecmo more than any madden besides 05
I was born in 07 but I play this on PC and it’s always fun. Youngsters do know.
SoftDrink is a youngster. The dude was born in 1999! At least he appreciates history.
I spent 200+ hours in this game. I personally think its better than any Madden ever made
i argree for the past 10 years but the old madden in the mid 00s are amazing
@@lucash5106 I'd say Tecmo Super Bowl, PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era Madden and the NFL 2K series is the three best football games ever made for different reasons.
I spent 200+ hours in 1991 lmao. I've played this game inside out, diagonally and reverse. Played it when it first dropped, played it on the SNES, played it when I went to my first duty station in the Marines in 1998...played it with the roster updates and tweaks. It's the GOAT.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 hi fellow Spurs fan
I’d add Nfl Gameday along with Nfl Fever
this game is timeless.....the gameplay will forever hold up. tecmo bowl in the arcade started it all and tecmo super bowl took it to the next level for home consoles. so easy to pick up and play but yet so challenging. it was the madden before madden. was it arcadey? yes, but that's what makes it so appealing. are the graphics next gen? no, but they don't need to be for a game this good. thanks, softdrink for finally giving this game it's due praise.
Man this brought back a LOT of memories! Yes tecmo bowl was and is a gem in video game franchise history!
My favorite football game. I still play this from time to time.
The SNES Tecmo Bowl was the one I fondly remember. The chills I got seeing that intro and hearing that music man....wow. Thanks for the nostalgia hit SoftDrink!
Would love to see a retro bowl video, it’s a great game for a mobile game. It’s easy to pick up and play but has enough depth to keep people coming back
Still the greatest football game to date for me. I love that you kicked this off with the injury music, hilarious.
I cannnot explain to you how much I love tecmo super bowl. I was 9 when this came out.
The best .
Man, I still have that game too. And there are mods of this game for current years for Tecmo Super Bowl
my favorite part was getting a safety on the running back and then knocking the quarterback off of the screen with someone like lawrence taylor, derrick thomas or reggie white, basically anyone with a hitting power of 63 or more
One of my favorite games ever!
Nhl 94 was absolutely legend as was NHL 93. But I actually like the 96 NHL better cuz it had full regular seasons with stats.

Man that original arcade game looks genuinely good with loads of stuff going on sidelines as well, fantastic animation for the time.
I’m 47 and know this game ALL too well. Your video here is awesome man
Hundreds of hours I sunk into this game as a child. I played the crap out of this game. So awesome! Still holds up today.
Back 2 Back bangers my guy 👍👍
When that Tecmo Super Bowl 3 (SNES version) intro music hit....
Both snes and Genesis
@@michaelcorcoran8768 It's for both SNES & Genesis.
The Chief's Christian Okoye and The Saint's Craig Hayward were also dominant in Tecmo Super Bowl. Especially when in "Excellent" condition.
Brad Muster too on da bears lol
@@J.Wick. Oh ya! Those guys trucked everybody! Lol. Except for maybe Ronnie Lott and Derrick Thomas
Making popcorn
Popcorn city. Okoye is the ultimate underrated player on TSB. Can be as fast as upper level RB's but that 100 hit power means he just completely popcorns damn near every defender if he's in the open field. I wouldn't even zig zag with him...I'd just hope I could have them bounce off me.
I remember playing Tecmo Bowl in college. :) I'm so old. :P
I’m 23 so I’ve never played these games. Thanks for bringing awareness to Tecmo bowl. I’m going to have to check it out on my PC!
This video is deceptive as hell. Tecmo Super Bowl isn’t the one everyone references. Tecmo Bowl is the one everyone references.
Used to play the "Final Edition" on the regular until my SNES shit the bed. Classic. NES Tecmo Super Bowl was another go to as well. Excellent video.
But we had to drive 600 mi to Grandma's house to spend two weeks so I didn't get to play it until January.
i started playing this game yesterday
it's fun to play with bo jackson ngl
I didn't think someone wh primarily talked about Madden even was aware of the Tecmo Bowl Series. Well done my dude. Tecmo Super Bowl is one of my biggest passions and you've managed to get me to smile. Glad to see someone is also enjoying the games.
Ah, back when playing as the Patriots was “hard mode”
Ha, it is again in the last two Maddens!
@@djb2843 ah good point, I haven’t bought/played madden since 2011 - it slipped my mind haha
Found this CIB at garbage sale for $5 years ago......best find ever.
So much nostalgia. Full season, stat tracking. Just amazing
The Raiders having Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen in the same backfield was awesome.
Thank goodness their defense sucked. Lol...
@@thanhclips lol, no doubt.
Tecno Super Bowl will live on forever. It is that memorable. I say this as a non-football fan. I loved the game. It is very fun.
This classic will never die, it's just too good even after 30 years.
Most slept on part that made this game awesome was it actually kept track of your stats. Much better than needing out yourself and doing it..lol
It was the game I spent the most quarters on at the arcade. I literally saved my quarters just to play a full game of the original Tecmo Bowl. When it came to Nintendo man....on top of the world.
The arcade version is still the only 2v2 Tecmo Bowl too sadly
Love the shoutout to NBA 2K11, truly the best bball sim ever made.
Definitely in my top 10 video games of all time!!!!! So ahead of its time
Tecmo Super Bowl 2 and 3 are definitely in my top 10 football games all time.

Its finally out🐐
Good video. I still enjoy them all. The last version that was available on the Sega Genesis when we could finally make trades was my favorite. Also, Mike Tysons Punch-Out is still a blast to play and one of the best sports games of all time.
In Tecmo III I remember creating Luke Skywalker as a RB for the Jaguars🤣 Good times!
My favorite video game of all time, the first game my parents introduced me to in the mid 90s
Watching the recreations of iconic NFL plays in the style of Tecmo Bowl is definitely a staple of my childhood.
All this 2D action gave me a bit of an itch for the old handheld battery operated baseball and football games of the early 80's!
I remember in the early 90s getting this game on Christmas Day and this was this one was 👌 love and miss u pops thank
I played a lot of Tecmo, think I paid $85 for the SNES version at Toy’s R Us right when it came out. Great video.
Great video! I remember playing this when it first came out and spent many seasons on this. I wish more people played the Tecmo NBA game, it had the same feature and impact that TSB but it gets swept under the radar

Best football game ever! The day this came out a bunch of us gathered at a buddies house and stayed up all day and night playing this.
Still playing Tecmo Super Bowl 3.
I didnt even get a notification for this video, thanks for this video I love these videos on old games
XD
In the early 90s, my family and I were new to the U.S. My brother and I learned American-style football through Tecmo Bowl. How ironic that a Japanese-made game taught a couple of Korean-American brothers about NFL football. :P My brother is not so much a sports guy, but Tecmo Super Bowl made me a football freak for life.
love the intro bro 🖤
Competition is the key to greatness!
Baseball Stars for the NES for baseball! Loved that game! I could swear that pressing harder meant bigger bombs lol.
Tecmo Super Bowl 3 is my favorite in the series. Used to stay up for hours playing that.
