If they told you that there was coverage and then said no coverage afterwards, that is called an E&O (Errors and Omissions). They will have coverage for that. In Texas insurance companies and their agents can "bind by word". Meaning that if they tell you you have coverage, even if nothing is signed, no money changes hands; coverage is in place. I don't know how widespread that is but it should be the case here for you.

In order to legally record a call, short of a warrant and a wire tap, you must announce at the beginning of the call that you are recording, and the other party has the decision to continue with the call or disconnect. Most companies won't allow for their calls to be recorded by someone else, and will disconnect if you tell them that you're recording. The premiums differ if your car is more common and has more accidents which is daft really as they are penalizing you for others stupidity. It's a big con. You ever hear the term "money doesn't buy happiness"?
So long story short: The guy who said that lied.
When you have a soft cushion of money to let you down on, multiple Ferraris you have half equity in, etc., it's easier to stay calm during these types of things. Like for example I don't have a job but I have a decent amount in the bank (not a lot, but enough to pay rent for a few years) and was planning on looking in March and this whole Covid thing started, but now recruiters stopped responding, are slow, etc. because hiring slowed. I'm not worried though because while not ideal, I have enough cushion in the bank - I have nothing to worry about. If somebody was working a minimum wage job though and they were in my position they'd be heavy panicking. They wouldn't have any option not to. That cushion gives you the ability to stay calm. The larger the cushion, the calmer you can stay, IMO. So I don't think Rob would be staying cool if he didn't have any money in the bank & the business was barely making ends meet.
Now that all being said, yeah I admire him for that, too. I hope someday I'll be in a business position like that!

It’s just part of the operating expenses. He knows in 1,000 rentals he will have one of these accidents and it will cost the company X amount. So he keeps X amount in an account then it’s there for when stuff happens.
Kind of like repairs on your personal car. If you have been driving a car for awhile you can figure out this car cost me on average X amount a month. Put x amount in an account and you’ll never have to freak out when you need new tires, brakes, etc.
He’s pays attention to his numbers and that is why he is still in business. Not because he makes huge sums of money. But because he knows where the money goes and why it goes there.

I was under the impression Jersey is a one part consent state when it comes to recordings. If that is the case Rob you should be recording all of those calls yourself. Its also important to make sure the app is recording from time to time. I have cubeacr on my android phone now and it seems to work well. The app I had before hand would randomly stop(can't think of its name). Like an android update would cause it to stop recording audio but it looked like it was working.
If you have enough of a recording off your cameras or can get the audio then you go after the insurance companies errors and omissions coverage.

2:29 - Wait... If I rent a vehicle, and THEIR insurance, which I pay for, doesn't cover it, I can get SUED? Even if the accident was reasonable and not due to "excessive" negligence (if I launch, and didn't notice a small piece of debris or something, that's not unreasonable, as doing fun stuff can be somewhat risky -- but that's why I pay more for insurance coverage).
Why would insurance not cover it? What's their reasoning?
This feels like absolute BULLSHIT on their part. Why is the people who determine what coverage they pay.... are the same people with invested interest to NOT pay out?
