    I have a few questions. What gallon size tank would you recommend for two bamboo sharks and one cat shark plus other fish. And what size would the tank need to be? (Example: 8x6x2)

    my tank holds 800 gal of water volume and houses 2x 1.5ft coral cat shark and a 2ft brown banded bamboo(and group of chromis and damsels). I gave up on my rock work as they always topple them. You are right! I prob gonna take most of the rocks out.

    It's a shame your channel is no longer active! I'm eyeing the possibility of starting out a shark tank and information out there is relatively scarce as keeping sharks is something of a niche part of the aquarium hobby. Just some out-of-date websites with older information and fish forums full of ego-filled hobbyists (none of which have ever kept sharks) arguing over who's right. Thanks for your videos.

      Shark Husbandry Network Thanks for your response! I was actually thinking of a 360g (plus 50g refugium/sump) setup with a Zebra Moray, Cortez Stingray, Miniatus Grouper and a shark. 4 monsters in all. In your opinion, would the White Spotted Bamboo go well in this situation? Or is an Epaulette/Coral Catshark more suitable? Is my tank size suitable too?

    • @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287

      That’s a cool idea, and it is commonly seen in “touch tanks” in accredited zoos and aquariums. The exact combination I will be working with tomorrow consists of one white spotted bamboo shark, one epaulette shark, one coral cat shark, two horseshoe crabs, four monofish, three atlantic stingrays, two cownose stingrays, and six yellow stingrays.

    @TheGresham1973 sorry for accidentally deleting your question. To answer I currently do not. But it would not hurt. It does remove phosphates in the water but I don't think it would necessary unless you are housing coral life in the tank with them.

    I've asked you tank size questions before, but that tank I was unable to purchase. I'm looking into buying a brand new tank. With the area I have for my tank I do not have much room for a deep tank. The tank I'm looking at purchasing is a 8 ft long and 30 inches deep. 300 gallon. Would this be large enough for both a male and female bamboo or even a bamboo and a coral cat? Also I hear a lot of people tell me when I talk about sharks is that I would need to put something to round the corners of tank to keep them from hitting there noses. Is this a must?

    • @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287

    I've been researching for the last month on getting a shark. I have watched all your videos and am still not sure what to get. I found a tank that I may buy that is a 240 gallon, 8x2x2. Just curious on what I could keep in that tank? I know all these animals tend to be nocturnal but is there any species that tends to be more active during the day?

    • @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287
      @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287  9 років тому +1

      All of the sharks that you could pick up for home aquaria are going to be nocturnal by nature. The most active shark would probably be the bamboo species or a short tailed nurse. The nurse is expensive but hard to find. They are probably more active in my experience than the bamboos. They on grow to about 2.5 feet so you could house two of them with no issues. They won't be as active as the hound sharks but those guys will get to large for that tank. You will probably be looking at $1000 or so for the short tailed nurse shark. Sometimes more and sometimes less.

    what would be the daily/weekly schedule for this type of aquarium. I'm trying to work with a 300 gallon tank with about 2 white spotted bamboo sharks. Like how much of a water change should I try doing? Also how much should I be feeding them a little everyday or every couple of days?

    • @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287

    • @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287

    Hi Matt. I am going to be setting up a round indoor shark and ray pond in my basement. Pond is a portable koi pond. 8 foot diameter, 3.5 foot high, 1297 gallons. My LFS has 2 juvenile Cortez stingrays and a smooth hound shark available. Is there room for a couple bamboo sharks too? Or what else would you recommend to house with them? Also what filtration can you recommend for this size tank? I saw one guy run a wet/dry filter, skimmer and even has huge sponge filters in the pond for extra water movement and oxygenation. Very low tech but effective. I have always been a low tech fish keeper myself.👍🏼

    • @breed3957

      Also how often should I do water changes and how much at a time? I will also be running at least one dehumidifier since the pond will be in the basement.

    I'm planning a future shark tank and this will be my first shark(s). I'm considering a few options (catsharks, epaulettes and bamboo sharks) and tank width is a large factor for me. If I buy a tank with a 36" width and a 72" length, will that be enough space to comfortably house 2-3 of these sharks that get to be 32-40"?

    • @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287
      @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287  9 років тому +2

      In a tank that size if you do multiple sharks I would only do two at most. I would also only do coral or a smaller bamboo shark species. Brown banded and epaulette get on the larger side. Unless you go with a non Australian epaulette sub species. But those are almost impossible to find. If you stay with one shark then any of those would be ok. The Australian eppie may be a little tight but you can do it. With that little water volume make sure you have the best of the best filtration. When those guys reach maturity they will be messy.

    • @WyldfireKeeper
      @WyldfireKeeper 9 років тому

      Shark Husbandry Network
      Excellent. Thanks for the advice. I think I will lean towards the small bamboos or catsharks. While I think epies are very cool, I would rather have a comfortable fish than cramped fish. Plus if I get catsharks, I could reduce the size of the tank I want to 30" width and reduce the cost of the tank by several hundred dollars. LOL

    • @WyldfireKeeper
      @WyldfireKeeper 9 років тому

      Shark Husbandry Network
      I might be able to get ahold of an 8' long X 24" wide used 240 gallon tank locally for a decent price. Do you think I could comfortably fit 2 catsharks in there? If not, would one be okay?
      Also, I've always had an interest in breeding fish and I realize it will require a few additional setups to breed sharks, but are coral catsharks breedable in captivity? If so, how easy would you say it is on a scale of 1-10?

    • @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287
      @sharkhusbandrynetwork1287  9 років тому +1

      The tank would be plenty big enough for two coral catch sharks. Getting in the read can be rather difficult but they are one of the easier species to breed in captivity. Caring for the eggs and getting the eggs to hatch on a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate it is seven. Getting the shorts to breed in captivity I would rate at a 3. I have had plenty of breeding responses from my bamboo sharks and I am currently trying to crossbreed a brown banded bamboo an a white spotted bamboo shark. To my knowledge it is never been done before in captivity.

      @@Fishguylogan2023 that will be tough. If you do it you will need to make sure whatever protien skimmer you are using is a monster. Once the shar gets bigger it will require more frequent water changes. I would recommend a sump system due to the quality of the circulation.

      Sabes I do not. I would look on some top rated sites on google. Many of them start listing big discounts this time of year. There is always used but be careful of leaking and other things.

      It is an expensive venture but you don't need to be a millionaire. just find the most cost effective way to maintain it and it can be done. No matter what you can save it will cost some money but you can do it. You just have make it happen.

    What’s the smallest it can take

      For a male you will at least need a 4ft x 2ft x 2 ft. That would be a bare minimum to support the size of a white spotted bamboo.
