In 1995 I went to the Premier Paint Horse Sale at Will Rodgers arena in Fort Worth. I wanted to get my 13 year old daughter a show horse for 4-H. I found a beautiful paint gelding by the Roan Ranger, APHA champion. I got him bought but I had to spend more than I have ever spent for a horse at auction, $3100. My daughter showed him til she got married, won a lot. We kept him awhile around the place just because he was so good and anyone could ride him. He was too go9d to keep in a pasture though, so we offered him to a therapeutic riding facility. They tested him and he passed so spent the rest of his life with easy work and meticulous care from facility personnel. He was the reserve champion mount at the Chisholm Trail meet for handicapped riders one year. After that we saw him on a commercial for the place on TV, being ridden by the reporter. He was also a star on the TV show "Horses that Heal". He was a great horse and a popular mount for wounded veterans and handicapped children and adults.
Christine, it's wonderful that you were careful to ensure that he went to a home where he would be appreciated and treated accordingly! It's so important to be cautious who to sell or give a horse to. I have a lot of admiration for the places with the Therapeutic Horseback Riding Programs. I hope to volunteer at one of them very soon. As soon as my own health issues are sorted out. I'm sure the horse was/is well cared for there and happy. To have attention, mental stimulation, and a moderate amount of easy work is far better for an aging horse than just rotting in a feild is. However being a pasture pony is far preferable to being sold to a bad owner, or to a long series of owners, and ending up in the meat auction. When I was a kid we used to say they ended up at the glue factory. Whatever term you use, the fact is that horses that people don't care about live an extremely stressful life, with a lot of fear. Sometimes they are auctioned multiple times, each time being scarier than the time before. Many of these magnificent animals, who are so willing to do almost anything for us but sadly can't tell us what they experience, go through a downward process of being a lesson horse, then a dude ranch horse, and finally are just a commodity, for meat. Worming, hoof trimming, and dental care are no longer done. The result is chronic pain and illness. And they are horribly beaten and abused! When you see videos of them you can see how terrified they are! The end of the road is the kill auctions, and the actual slaughter, both of which are the most horrific thing that any person or animal could ever imagine! That is the end result of people carelessly selling off horses, just because they are old or didn't get along with the owner, in order to recoup a few dollars. People, PLEASE. If you cannot afford to keep them in your own pasture and give them proper care, then PLEASE give them up to a Horse Rescue Organization. If they can be rehabilitated and rehomed, the organization will do so. If they are too old to be ridden, there are people who will be happy to keep them in a pasture, and to continue their veterninary, dietary, teeth and hoof care. But when their time comes, and they are too old and sick, they will not suffer. They will be put to sleep with love. And you will sleep well, knowing you did the right thing for them. Horses are very intelligent, so they're meant to have a lot of variety in their experiences and life. No matter how big it is, any pasture will feel small to them after about a week (or less), and it will be extremely boring, even if they are with other horses. So a horse that is capable of having a job should have one, and when they are too old (or lame from illness or injury) they still need to be properly cared for. Just selling them off to anyone, for money, is a cruel thing to do. So is dumping them in a feild and neglecting them. Living in a pasture is NOT the same kind of healthy life that wild horses have, and your own pasture horses still need plenty of human attention, for many reasons. Some horses are even put out to pasture alone! How awful for them! We need to treat aging horses as we would wish to be treated. To just sell them off like an old car or dirt bike is a horrible thing! I see may very good, caring horse owners on YT, but I do see some awful ones who make me terrified for their horses! Please people! Do not just get rid of any horse! Even if you and they had a bad relationship for some reason, please understand that is likely because they either have health issues, or they were not properly trained, or they were abused. Horses only behave badly for those 3 reasons. And like any person, they deserve to not be tortured. Selling them to just any old person DRASTICALLY increases the odds that they will resold again and again, and end up in the kill auctions eventually. I don't know much about horses, and when I was reading 'All the Pretty Horses,' the book frequently mentions cheap and expensive horses without providing additional descriptions. However, to the characters, it is obvious at first sight whether the horse is good. Now I can see how.
I have only ever bought one horse, that was a yearling colt, and I’m training myself. He is already less spooky than the most expensive horse we have (6000$) and at the same level because the 6000$ dollar one is in rehab due to his issues being hidden to us when we bought him. (He’s an amazing boi tho)
I find this pretty interesting. I’m involved in the breeding end of racehorses. I’m always picking up some cut 3/4yr old at the auction, dirt cheap and turning him for profit. Them show ppl in FL are an easy sale. 🤣
We had a jumper back in the day who was an ex-bucking horse. We got him on a whim when a rodeo contractor called & said he had a bronc who wouldn't stay in his pen, would we take him? That horse would jump over a stall guard, jump from paddock to paddock ~ fences 4'6" with walkways between paddocks ~ everything. He wasn't easy to ride, rudimentary steering at best ~ but he never, ever stopped in front of a fence. It was like point & shoot. The only times that horse didn't pin were on his frisky days when he'd as soon jump out of the show ring as jump the obstacles. At one of our last shows, he raced through the jumpoff ~ we'd won ~ then bolted out of the ring & down the hill. I think I was able to stop him about a mile later. When he retired, we turned him out with all the other older horses. Once a week, neighbors would call & say, "Please get this monster out of my garden. " True story!

The fact you got to see VS Code Red is INSANE, I am immensely jealous!! He's got a lot of babies round where I am and is quite popular!
The roman nose , grade horse was my favorite lol
so glad to have my own boone at home! everyone has that one in the herd
I just bought my bucket list horse. A Gypsy Vanner Stallion! He’s gorgeous and well mannered and I hope to get lots of babies out of him.
id take "Bucket Head" over any million dollar horse
I died at “cute little buck” 😂
😂😂same no thanks I’m old.
Got my horse for free and hes been great. Love my little twh with major anxiety.
So cool to see Katie and VS Code Red in your video. I'm a huge fan of hers.
buckethead: priceless ❤
Boones my boy too don't get me wrong ol son ⭐
The cost really depends what your discipline is.
The BEST BOSS EVER only has $1,000,000 horses 😂
Aww, I love ole Brandon. Also, I saw Miss Becky bite the pick up horse haha!
Got mine for $1300. She is now easily worth $15k. Took a lot of work though!
I'm not a huge fan of rodeo or western riding, but this was a fun video. It was nice to see all the horses, even Brandon looked like he had a unique personality! And the stallion at the end was breathtaking.
Brandon 🥹 I love you. I have a thing for a Roman nose lol my first horse when I was five was an off colored, Roman nosed “black” Percheron my father got dirt cheap. So Brandon, your tops in my books. 😊
I noticed you didn't ask to buck the giraffe. Would have liked to have seen that.
The day you buy the horse is the cheapest day❗
I came across your channel before and I lost you for a while. And now I'm back, I missed you and your channel. Which I have no idea about horses. Your my favorite ❤
@@malenatully2148 thanks so much. Welcome back
@@DaleBrisbyBullRider awww.. you're a sweetheart. Thanks
I don't know much about horses, and when I was reading 'All the Pretty Horses,' the book frequently mentions cheap and expensive horses without providing additional descriptions. However, to the characters, it is obvious at first sight whether the horse is good. Now I can see how.
Just stumbled across this channel and I’m now OBSESSED- it’s hard to find both entertaining and non-abusive equestrian content so I hit gold lol! :)
Welcome!!
I paid 1,200 for my registered aqha bay roan mare, broke, but a little spooky , best purchase I ever made I absolutely love her
I have only ever bought one horse, that was a yearling colt, and I’m training myself.
I like these kinda videos always good to learn something.
My grandparents just got a 2.3 million dollar stud vs the fireman 😅
😂😂😂😂 great story and I am positive it's true
I love Dale's videos, I wish there was daily uploads but I know that is a huge amount of work !
“A cute buck” he’s just a bunny, bouncing around!!
I ride English (hunter jumpers) yet these videos are amazing.
DAMN!! That last horse is the Fabio of horses!😂😂
"Sort fly poop from pepper" 😂 that's a good one
Ol Buckethead about falling asleep during his introduction
the best priced horse is the one I could go anywhere with and be safe with, no ,atter who his lines are, what it looks like
Instant follow with "Let's go Brandon" clip, hahaha. But also, fun informative video. I came to see VS Code Red as I follow his owner's channel, and now I'm watching all your recent vids.
I got both of my horses for free. My oldest is 24yrs he's a 14.3hh chestnut quarter gelding. He's pretty sweet and trust worthy but definitely can get pretty Bucky and spunky. My newest is 8yrs he's a 15hh chestnut thoroughbred. He's pretty green and is giving me a rough time. I'm hoping to ride him soon.
my horse is 8'000 dollars idk if that is expensive or not tbh. i got her for christmas she is a western trail horse with a paint colour. she is super fast im only 12 and my mum loves her she is a bit of an adults horse tho. she came from a cattle station so she is great with cattle. but we love eachother we have a great conection.♥
My horse would be 25,000.00 My 10 year old niece rode him, super soft and got the color to boot!
Put a flank on that giraffe ol' son.
Buster is absolutely adorable
Damn dale you got some pretty horses❤
The last horse looked a little low in the rears.. betcha it would be a rough ride. 😊
Love the dapples....but...
can i just say your horses are gorgeous!!!
I knew code red had to be on here. That darn horse would be living in my house w my cousins out front 24/7 w the ARs.
Paid 6k for a 6 month old Jack and shipped from Ohio to California...the mares he has to cover go from “no one could ride” to priceless, my go to for years and others five figured using beauties...best mules in the west coast on the way🔥💯✨🤘...only crazy lady to build a remuda over the last decade in a half to only make mules, but damn good mules🤣
My son got his picture with you at the California state convention... thank you for always taking time to support our countries youth, cowboys forever💯🤘🔥
Get a zebra stud...you know you wanna...I bet he would buck too🤘✨💯
As soon as I saw the title I knew the 1,000,000 horse would be Code Red.
You should try bucking the last one
Gerald licked me on top of my head when we toured Highpoint in college!
Hahaha that was a nice bonus horse there at the end xD
After you mentioned Trevor, I was waiting to see the Darkk Side 😮
I think your price on Boone is too low!!
Holy crap you've got some bulky horses. I'm completely unfamilar with rodeo work so this is totally fun information for me.
For the last one I thought “oh maybe a zebra or something” but a frickin GIRAFFE XD The stuff you can see in the south man!
Your belt buckle started out about right, but got kinda small at the end!
Yay Katie, he is wonderful
Dale I know you’re a Bullrider but have you ever been on any of the Gold string from Silver Spurs maybe in your past life? They were bucker’s Ol Son!
Idk, Gerald looks a bit long in the neck to be a million. 900k maybe, but a million?🤔
I'd take that last horse. 7:30 and make an NCHA Champion. Wouldn't even have to move his feet in the cutting pen to cut a cow. LOL
yeeehaww
A good horse always knows your personality and they work that way they’re smart animals people forget that
"Yea I just kinda let em do what he wants! He'll get it put of em! This is his world" as a horse rider that is the funniest shit ever to me
Dusty makes em as nice as anyone
Love seeing Katie here!!!
Well, I have to say, the $1,000,000 horse really did look like he was worth every penny. He was gorgeous!
I thought when I first saw the title oh I won’t watch that one it’s not gonna be that great. 😅I was Proven wrong. Waited 7 days. HAHA. Every second of this was educational. Loved it. Keep doing these!
Brandon is like - wtf dude!? 😂
That's a handsome boy, that $1 horsie!! He has lil' dapples on his belly he's so cute and so handsome!! Thank you for taking care of that sweet baby! :D Oh, and that 500k red roan was stunning! Beautiful stud there. He's just so sweet looking!
"She's gentle in the shoot,"
*bucks like a fuckin' maniac trying to kick off Mr. Dale*
i love horses so much i had a x bucking horse and he was a blue roan i worked with him for years and i rode him for the first time and he did not buck i took him on trail rides i even barrel raced him 105 times also!
Thank you for the videos.
Glad to see Boon is still around !
Thank you for sharing.🐴
Ha. That real tall horse Gerald was my neighbor a few years ago.
I've seen some pretty cool dual purpose rodeo horses. They're buckin stock and rope horse. You be running down the roping pen, swing your rope, and they just break in half and turn straight buckin stock.😂😂😂
See! I knew I gave you a good idea 😂. Buy low, sell high. Where’s that pony?
That’s a huge buckle looks good
I’m a show jumper and I understand spending a lot on horses, but I would never get a horse over 50,000
