I was 13 back in 1971. I had the biggest Crush on Neil Diamond. I'm 62 today and he still is "My Beautiful Crush." He is so gorgeous, but his music is the true soul of Neil Diamond. He has made me feel and taken me places only he could do. He is one of the best singer-songwriters of my lifetime. Thank You Mr. Diamond for the many years of entertainment you have blessed me with. God Bless You.
Neil Diamond was in 1977, four days on Tour in Netherland.there were problems with the Hammond organ (110 Volt America-Europe 220 Volt) I'm approached by Lou van Rees Management for a solution to my Hammond Rent. After four days I got my B3 Hammond returned with Fire spots of Cigarettes it frustrated me.They have me removed me from all the Neil Diamond Fan Clubs because I had this listed on their site.Never Apology of Neil Diamond ;-( Rich and Famous 1
Neil Diamond's interviews, I've seen about half a dozen of them in the past several days, are most impressive. Diamond is a man with a brain. He comes across to me in his interviews as brilliant. I've listened to his music since the late 60's or early 70's. I had no idea he's a truly philosophical man. Well done by both Mr. Diamond and his interviewer! Thank you!
Excellent post. Besides a man with a brain, he is a man who is authentic and down to earth to the point of being humble, who has never let his fame cause him to act like he is above the public.
Strangely, I too have been watching several of his interviews recently. I was always a fan, ever since I first heard him when I was a teenager in '71. But, recently have rediscovered him when I heard of his Parkinson's diagnosis. His interview last year on CBS Sunday Morning was so real. He said he was scared. And when asked of what, he replied "of being found out. No one likes to be found out. I'm not some big star. I'm just me." He had me at that point. How real can a man get. No Neil, you ARE a big star and it's because you are just YOU. Thanks for filling our world with song. You're a once in a lifetime treasure.
I think the reason Neil had a difficult time writing for other singers was because he was destined to be both the songwriter AND the singer. And thank goodness he was. His music is absolutely the most captivating and beautiful music out there.
Ravyne Hawke So true! I think the most effective performers are ones that perform their own music. It means something to them. The performance is enhanced because the song is a part of them.
Have been madly in love with him my whole life. And his music affected me so much. Primarily Hot August Night, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Tap Root Manuscript, Love At The Greek, September Morn, Beautiful Noise. Have seen him many times in concert since 1979. Best times of my life seeing him perform live over the years
Neil looking very mythologically god-like in this interview with the magnificent mane and the perfect amount of chest hair. The best part is that he can go so deep in expressing his thoughts.
A well educated and clever man he answers every question. (Not like the so called entertainers of today) he wrote and sang some incredibly beautiful songs love his voice and he is so gorgeous.
I am 75 years old and I heard Neil Diamond for me first time when I was in high school. I have followed him and loved his music since I was 17 years old. I always wanted to see him live but he never came close enough for me to go to a concert. I love every song he sang. Even now I play his CD’s every night while I go to sleep! He has given me so much joy for all these years. Thank you Neil what joy you have given me in my life!
I read that Neil would write poems in High School for male classmates at their request. Their girlfriend loved them. There is poetry in Neil’s lyrics. The words are inspirational, introspective, passionate. ☺️👍💕
Such a humble and talented guy ! I absolutely love him and his songs ❤. I saw him in concert in 1998 and WOW....what a performance. ! ! I never sat down once....even though we had comfortable seats ! !
Just saw him in Dallas, last Tuesday. July, 2017. He's as good as he's ever been. I could listen to him talk all day long. A very interesting, introspective person.
He is an amazing talent! Elvis recorded a relatively unknown Neil.Diamond song "The Grass Don't Pay No Mind". It was so sensual and touching I knew the 1st time I heard it, that it was a Neil Diamond song!
I love the pretty colors he wore this day . He sounds very nice . Sad he didn't have enough of paper to write . Love you dear Neil !!!! Beautiful thick long hair . His eyes looks green !! Are they ?? Nice u had 2 girls & 2 boys . Children are wonderful !!! Now 2015 read u were married again .. God bless your new marriage & happy life !!!!!
Neil Diamond is a gift from God. His music is so real, so artistic, so full of meaning and feelings. I was still in high school when I heard his first song, Solitary Man. I was 19, sitting in a concert when he sang, he said it was for the first time 'I Am... I Said.' That song is the most powerful song! I felt the impact in every cell of my body and I couldn't believe that he knew exactly how I felt! I was lost, alone, and lonely, and that gorgeous man felt the same way! You KNEW it was a song written about himself, and yet, it was a song about me, too. I'll never forget that night. That song and his other music, affect me to this day, May 2, 2024. I'm 72 now. I feel his pain, his happiness. Whatever he writes and sings, I feel it. My favorite will always be 'I Am... I Said.' Thank you Neil Diamond, for understanding me and my lonely soul! 💎🌹❤️
I really enjoyed this. Able to see what accounts for Neil's beautiful and touching songs. Either he's the world's greatest actor or was VERY sensitive and deeply moved by his environment growing up and still as an adult. I believe the latter.
I listen to this interview very often. Love to go back to it. ND was still very young and innocent to a certain extent. Love the honesty! Of course, the interviewer makes all the difference! Thanks!
When I first heard SOLITARY MAN, I thought this is an anthem for every guy. This good-looking Jewish fellow wrote and sang some great songs. One of the best is AMERICA.
I ♥️ to hear Neil explain how he writes his songs, what it means to him and how he feels about them. He is an introspective, spiritual and wonderful composer and singer-songwriter 🎼🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶💫
A probing interview that shows me how philosophical Neil is. I've enjoyed his music since my childhood in the early '70s. He is an amazing singer and songwriter, a rarity in the music industry.

His voice was deeper when he was younger. Now his voice has got higher. Usually your voice deepens over the years but can sometimes thin out over the years too.
Michael Langley to a point. I met him a few times in the 80s and 90s his voice was even deeper then. Now he has Parkinson’s and that affects his vocals
Testosterone drops in males as they age, which is why their voices get higher. Conversely, estrogen drops in women as they age, which is why their voices grow deeper later in life.
I wasn't so impressed with the interviewer. What was with the "I think writers write to make themselves feel special" nonsense? As if there aren't a million reasons to write - it has to be to make yourself feel special? And, even though Neil (not very convincingly) agreed - he circled back to it (did you write to feel special in your family?) trying to make something out of nothing.. Sheesh!
amazing he could smoke cigs and still sing great for many years...I have to assume he stopped a long time ago. Great artist...a true musical artist...not just a "singer"
The art of songwriting is very scary. It extracts that personal toll he was talking about, and yet the fear of 'will anyone else like it' s always there. I have written sixteen songs. I haven't written any in years. Life gets in the way, and writing gets very difficult. Neil is very wonderful and genuine. Thanks for uploading this.
I have loved Neil since I was 16. I graduated from high school in 1971 when this interview was done. I wish we could turn back the clock and experience all these memories again. LOVE YOU, NEIL.
In time all good things shall prevail. The Universe knows GOODness. Thus, all shall be redeemed in time. So glad, SO GOOD, SO GOOD, SO GOOD~that Neil Diamond pursued his creative passion to write, then perform, which was our bonus also! 💎❤️

Neil Diamond is such a beautiful man with a beautiful soul. That shines through here.
Makes a beautiful noise
Like a street full of grime
But the tunes so insightful
And the words always rhyme
