Did you find the 225 on the 7.5 inch rim okay ? Nankang say you should use a 8 inch rim. But I think 7.5 should be okay . Any problems on the 7.5 rim ? Thanks
@@TheEddysGarage I've been running 225/40ZR18 Nanking NS-2R on old 7.5 Golf rims for a few years on a Octavia vRS, so similar spec to a Golf GTi, no issues, all good. These are cheaper than the AR1, and come in different Treadwear ratings 80, 120 and 180; higher ratings last longer but with less grip.
@@wowthtsgoodnot a spacer its a centering ring Although hub-centric rings are not required, they can play a role in minimizing vibration. Note: Hub-centric rings don't carry any load. While most aftermarket wheels are lug-centric, an original equipment (OE) wheel is hub-centric and doesn't require a hub-centric ring.
What are your thoughts of running them on a street car only used on dry days? My cars a mk2 focus ST running 343 bhp
Too noisy and if it gets wet you are in trouble. Get something like the Nankang CR-s which I’m currently running or Bridgestone RE71RS, Advan 052.
Do you think a 235/40 would still be okay, would it affect lap times much?
The set I had after these were 235 but on a 8 inch wide wheel from a S3.
@@TheEddysGarage if there's slight overhang say a 235 on 7.5" will it be detrimental
@@ayske1 it will have a less precise steering feel wth the extra sidewall flex
@@ayske1 just get a 225/40 and enjoy
@@TheEddysGarage yep think I'll do that! Thanks for the help!

The measured size of the 225 is on a 8” rim. No problem with it on a 7.5 and you can see the sidewall is squared, not bulging

@@waynedonovan6754 I’m on my 4th set of AR1 now. Love them
Are they directional? I can't find that information out anywhere
No they aren’t directional. Which is odd as the tread looks like it should be
@@TheEddysGarage exactly my thoughts! I've been going crazy trying to work it out.

Are you running spacers? What’s the specs on the wheels like their offset?
Ralph Mag they are just stock GTI wheels 18x7.5 +51
The Eddy’s Garage oh ok they seem to sit kinda flush
Ralph Mag I now have the same AR1 but in a 235/40/18 on 18x8 +46 Audi S3 wheel
What ur think its better than toyo r888?
Umut Hizliogullari yes I prefer them. But 888 are more liveable if you want to keep them on your car
should of went with 18" Enkei RPF1 only 17.8 lbs each rim
Debra Johnson they don’t do a correct offset for the Sportback unfortunately.
@@TheEddysGarage I have same car as you and use the Enkei rims with Nexen N'Fera SUR4G tires all you need is a hub-centric spacer

Thin section of tyre just be on the inside you’ve got wrong way round
Although they look like it these are not a directional tire. The word “outside” is on the outside of all 4 mounted tires
