  • DISCLAIMER: This is nor a review or a test BUT we actually really liked the tire. There is a Part II coming that is going to put some numbers in the whole thing. Until then just take our word, we really like the tire. And NO Nankang didn't pay us to say that!

    it does take a few corners more to warm up compared to R888 (old type) but when you've got some heat in them they perform really good! and the best of all, they are still street legal

    Drove a season of NS-2R on my daily. They were excellent for the first part of their heat cycle life. Wouldn't use them as a daily tyre again but would buy for a track car. I assume these are even better.

      Why didn't you like them as daily tires ? Because they interest me. Thanks in advance for answering

    hey guys, would you reccomend these tyres for autox (slalom?). are they good enough from dead cold (say 20deg C) or they need a lot of heat to work? I found my fz201 in medium compound are useless on mx5 as I cannot put more than like 60degrees into them no mattwr how hars I drive on track. they are just too hard and slide like crazy.

    • @OneLapHeroes
      @OneLapHeroes  7 років тому

      We think they are better than FZ201 BUT we haven't done a direct comparison. Work quite well in both our MX-5s (and the heavier S2000). However both 'Ring and Spa are not really that similar with an autox track. Still we recommend giving them a try! :)

    • @krichd1

      Try the soft compound.

    Did you have to swap out the control arms or any tie rods or linkages , swaybar mounts etc to take the stress of the grip or was it all ok ? Also what kind of extra bracing has the car had to stop it twisting ?
    I've had RE003's on a stock MX5 with coilovers and it was fine but I don't know if the extra grip from something like these AR1's would be too much for the stock suspension linkages and if it might start to twist the chassis too much.

      If you're running full slicks, maybe there's a cause for concern but these semi tyres...you don't need upgrades. I've run semi's on all types of cars over the years, race and road and they don't contribute much to the general effect of driving a car very hard on a curcuit.

      Haha @OneLapHeroes, not offended at all.
      And I do understand the video, it's more about tyre 'reviews' specifically for the Nürburgring because it's not like any other circuit. I get that you don't want the responsibility of reviewing the tyres officially.
      Big fan and waiting for my Kickstartr stickerset to drop in the mailbox ;)

    any experience with Yokohama ad08r's? I'm on my 3rd set now and can't really fault them road and track, seen these ar1's when they were announced and can't believe that tread pattern(or lack of) is road legal!

    • @OneLapHeroes
      @OneLapHeroes  7 років тому +1

      One step above ad08r's for sure. You should compare them with Yokohama A048s.

    • @99Lezard99
      @99Lezard99 7 років тому +1

      aran large the ad08r are not a "real" semi slick. More like a super hight performance agressive sticky summer tire.

    comunque le gomme buone fanno tanto...forse più di un assetto (ovviamente se quello di serie è valido e non è morbidissimo)
    ora sarebbe bello vedere una comparativa con gomme stradali/gomme semislick a parità di assetto e tutto il resto ;)

    hey guys i have a question? massive fan and supporter of the channel and have been for a while! i was just wondering why is it you all drive RWD cars and not FWD? I currently own an mx5 but am not sure whether to keep the cheaper mx5 and do lots of track days or to buy a 130i do less track days but have a nicer faster car? my other Option was a cooper s R56 but Dont know if this car has a limit on developing driver skill? Im better than Kosta's but then again who isnt ;) i want to be on a level similar Gabriele but Dont want to be Limited by the car as to how fast i can go! ive only done 5 laps of the ring in a standard cooper s and did a 9:19. I want to come alot more but Dont know what car to bring! HELP ME!

    • @OneLapHeroes
      @OneLapHeroes  7 років тому

      We have no problem with FWD cars, although there are rumours about unwritten OLH rules that specify no FWD cars, no Diesel cars.
      A Mini Cooper S with the right mods is actually a quite interesting 'Ring tool however you highlighted yourself your problem. You don't need another car, a 'faster' car (no matter if it's a Mini or an 130i). You need to drive more. Spend the money on a year card and lap as much as you can. Even to get to Kostas' level you need much more than a couple of laps or a 9:19 in a Mini. Take the budget you have put it in driving and when you feel you aren't improving ask for... expert's advice! A good instructor will tell you if you are actually improving and what you are doing wrong. Practise makes perfect. (But actually it's good, targeted, well thought practise makes perfect)
      P.S. : Keep following and learn both from what we do correct but also from our mistakes... ;) )

    • @wurslegumage
      @wurslegumage 7 років тому

      Thank you for the reply! you guys are awesome and I think I know how I will be spending my money in 2017 :D project mx5 is a go with as many track days and nordschleife laps that I can afford!!One last question... Have you guys tried the DZ03G Dunlop Direzza on your miatas? from what I can see they have produced some very fast laptimes on a lot of cars!

    • @wurslegumage
      @wurslegumage 7 років тому

      OneLapHeroes also what is the reasoning behind these unwritten rules haha im curious now?

    • @99Lezard99
      @99Lezard99 7 років тому +1

      Wurslegumage i dont want to sound mean but if you can do a 9:19 in a cooper s then you probably will be slower with the mx5. I would set myself a realistic goal (like getting under 9:30 with mx5) and try to achive it. If I do, set the next one like under 9 and so on. But allways think twice about what you do. Dont get too excited, dont over do it. And if you have a bad feeling, dont do it. try to have fun. At least that works for me mostly. oh and when you cant drive, watch videos from other people who drive. (like the olh. They actually drive very well. Even kostas😆)

    • @OneLapHeroes

      We are pretty sure it's one step above the Federal RSRs (equivalent or better than the Federal FZ-201). Both solid 'budget' options.

    Should I get Nankang AR1 in 195 or 205 on a stock Miata 1.8 nb?

    • @knifeedge63
      @knifeedge63 5 років тому

      alex alex absolutely! They are a great tire, especially for a stock NB Miata. They completely transform the way the car drives. I’ve got them on my stock 91 318is e30. And my buddy has them on his 96 Miata, and his brother has them on his 1999 NB1.

    80 Treadwear? How many Ring laps is that?

    • @OneLapHeroes
      @OneLapHeroes  7 років тому +2

      We used the tires quite a bit both at the Nordschleife and in Spa-Francorchamps. We'd say tire wear seams to be on par with everything else on the market!
      More specifically we have a set with ~20 laps at the 'Ring and minimal wear (then again our MX-5s are very light on tires).

    question: did you guys behave like sh1t or is it the classic situation "the whole nürburgring scene is taking themselves too serious" that this fellow www.pro-track.de/index.php?cat=c198_AR-1-Semi-nankang--semi-slick--uhp--ar-1--ns-2r.html claimes to have nothing at all to do with your "tire test"? even he admits your mx was hosted under his tent? i just don't get it - need sticker "it's okay if you don't get it"...

    • @OneLapHeroes
      @OneLapHeroes  7 років тому +1

      Normally we wouldn't commend on this BUT is has been brought to our attention more than a couple of times so we will just reply here.
      We were part of the testing like all other cars and we are very grateful to Nankang, that invited us. We were all 3 cars guests - of Nankang - and we shared the space that was indicated to us trying to be very polite with everyone. The fact that our cars don't look so good or might have the occasional problem (Serxio's car had an engine issue towards the end of the day) it is because we represent people that might not have the budget to go for the ultimate build. Cars that can be bought (and built) by 'everyone'. That should not offend people.
      The times are there (onboards of all our cars online). If someone can pilot a STOCK powered MX-5 faster than what our guys are doing, we are going be the first to congratulate him. We are quite keen to see telemetry data from the other cars but they might be surprised with the corner speed the small 'ugly' MX-5 can carry. We are track people, some of us race, some of us wrench and in between our combined knowledge pool we have actual feedback for every single tire on the market (tires we buy with our own money). HOWEVER we hate to mention that every single time, or trying to make a point. The feedback and the information is there for those that care. Other than that these videos are entertainment. They are on purpose silly.
      We want people to enjoy them, exactly the same way we enjoy our cars and we try to not take anything 'too seriously'. We want people to have fun. We want to have fun.
      If that is a crime or it offends people so they actual have to distance themselves from our cars... we can't say we like it but we understand. All in all we are really sorry to say it but we think it's a case of 'the whole Nurburgring scene taking themselves too seriously'. And we don't like it.

      well, as a noob to your channel at first i feel honored to get that kind of answer, even in the end it is an answer to the whole community.
      me and my mates, all on one hand very childish homies in their early forties, live after the credo "mut zur blamage" which inclines self irony and a lot of zynism and sarcasm. it makes the surrounding world a lot more bearable. i try to translate it with "dare to make yourself ridiculous", so everybody will get the point...
      so far, and as a guy with a mediterranean mentality and background, it was always a torture to deal with all these people having a stick up their ar5es and behave like fu*king robots!
      i appreciate very much the way you pack "average people's" motorsport in this funny format and wrapped it in a tissue of excitement and true friendship almost thick as thieves.
      rock on!
