I think there are some great concepts and ideas in this video. It really changed how I look at units and has me considering how I evaluate units in general
Good show Justin - Thank you. A thought came to me you might want to talk about characters and the use of better pilots. Thoughts and opinions thank you
I don't play with characters typically. There are some listed in the MUL but the Legendary characters from the force pack are pretty nuts ability wise :)
Agree that Clan Heavy 'Mechs are very good brawlers and front line units. As a Jade Falcon player, I almost always have a Summoner and Loki in my list.
I second the summoner. I always thought it was a bit mediocre in classic, but man in AS it has everything. Good damage, good HP, 10 inch move for TMM 2, and JJs for TMM 3 if you need to go defensive or clear terrain. All of that for 40-41 PV is crazy. It’s basically a staple on any list it’s valid for. Currently using it for a Jihad Ghost Bear list and it’s putting in so much work
Yes the Vulture will shred the bushwacker in CBT. Why an IS med has the same cost as a Clan Heavy is what I dont get. The Bushwacker does not do half the potential damage of a Vulture.
If you’re fielding 10 clan mechs at 250 you’re probably in good shape. Clanners struggle with this though because their units on average cost more to field, even if on paper they are better. But again if you’re squeezing 10 clan mechs in at 250 you’re probably in a decent place. The Alpha Strike box scenarios with 8 inner sphere vs 5 clan mechs is really rough if you’re playing objective based games for example. Losing even one clan mech hurts a lot and you have to stretch yourself thin to cover objectives where as the IS forces have more minis to use albeit lower quality ones relative to the clan units. I wouldn’t say you’d get ruined, play some games and see if you can make some adjustments to compensate for the clan quality issue :) for me that usually means bringing some smaller units to save points for my big boys and still maintain numbers.
@@AndyPaintsPoorly that sounds about right points wise. It’s tough with clan forces. If you lean into picking up more cheap lights and mediums that’ll help out tremendously.
@@Thearmedpainter yeah that makes sense thanks - I got the heavy star before I got properly into battletech, as they were big stompy mechs and I couldn't resist 😆
as much as i like BT i always have issues with why weapons lose their damage amount after a few hundred feet. the mech game Steel Rift has no range on lasers and damage and seems more real. have you seen it?
Considering I work at Death Ray Designs and help pack Steel Rift, help run events, and give feedback on designs and rules ideas ;) I may be familiar lol! As for BT I try not to apply to much real world logic to it. Same with 40k, I usually just lose myself in the stompy robots and try to forget reality for a little bit :p
Great video. The chess analogy is very apt to miniature wargaming in general.
Excellent video.... Especially for a new AS player like me🤘

Glad it helped give you another perspective on how to view units :)
Great video. Clan mechs are expensive even the lights.
Job very well done! Pretty much instant subscribe.

do you ever say "i have to have this Mech or Mechs in my force" and build around that? Man this is great stuff!
110% do that all the time lol

Bushwacker is indeed a late invasion mech. It was actually built off things learned from a captured Mad dog.
I wish I were smart enough to understand these concepts. I just pick things because it sounds neat.
That also works too lol! If you like a unit you can definitely work it into a list.

So my Clan mechs from the Alpha Strike box and a Clan Heavy Star box might get ruined at 250? At least they're all big scary buggers

@@Thearmedpainter wait no I cocked up each of my stars is around 250 and it's 2 stars so 500 points. I'll be getting absolutely stomped

You really should have designated this as Alpha Strike in the video title.
