5 Exercises To Increase Hip and Torso Speed for longer Golf Shots

- Having great hip and torso speed is key to hitting the golf ball. The ability to separate the trunk from the torso is extremely important for this skill. In this video Brandon Harris CO-Founder of Premier Fitness Systems a Scottsdale Arizona gym that specializes in golf fitness and golf performance teaches you 5 exercises that will help you increase your ability to separate your lower and upper body.
A main reason that a golfers swing speed is not up to par is lack of flexibility and mobility. With lack of flexibility comes a decrease in the ability to separate the hips and upper body at the begging of the downswing.
A golfer that doesn't have good separation will begin to compensate with other aspects of their body. Most noticeable compensation will be with the low back! This potentially will lead to injury and definitely lack of consistency.
The goal of this video is to teach 5 exercises that will help you with separation of the upper and lower body and decrease the tendency of rotating the upper body before the hips. This tendency is one of the main causes of the over the top move.
All of the 5 exercises demonstrated will help you sequence your swing correctly and will immediately have a positive impact on your swing.

Great hip exercises. Hope to increase my drive distances. God bless
I can't believe this doesn't have a million views. Great routine and thank you!
diamonddiet Thanks for the love! We appreciate the positive feedback.
As a young man I failed to relate to the value of stretches, caring for my back and of course in time my back became a challenge and my swing changed as for years until I learned that I needed more than lessons, new sticks, and now for an old man I play well enough to hold my own. Thanks to your terrific routine I play without pain and maintain within reasonable expectations a competitive level even though I am nearly 68. I hope your biz is doing well. I do wonder how good a player you are today as I would bet you are an excellent player.. Best to you and thanks for being on target as I suggest to others that no matter their level of play or intent, to prolong and get the max out of the game they need to see a sound foundation, the body is invaluable. God Bless
+Steve Plyler Thank you so much for your positive feedback. It is our goal to help people both play and perform better as well as live a pain free healthy life.

I just turn 50 and started learning to play "Golf". Only three week into the sport and am beginning to notice my lack of physical conditioning. After watching a great number of videos. I came across your video and found it to be very clear and informative. I just started and am presently using a routine from my younger years for stretching upper body and core (Boxing warm ups), as follows... (One Set)25 Jumping Jacks25 Chain Breaker (4 count)25 Right and Left Toe Touches25 Forward and Backwards Arm Twirls (each way)25 Cherry Pickers (4 Count)25 Push-ups25 Open Close Leg Lift Stomach Crunches25 Mountain Climbers As mentioned, I just started a few weeks ago. So this stuff is really hard for me right now. I have to stop and start to complete one set. I was wondering if you could comment on the routine as I want to avoid injury when playing Golf so that I can play for a long time to come. My retirement is not so close but not so far away. Thanks,
+Mack Suniga there are so many variables to consider. The best way to asses these types of movement are to conduct a screen. For example if you don't have the right mobility in your shoulders then pushups might not be the right choice. We dont know these things unless we see you. +Steve T Glad it helped!
i have been dealing with back pain caused by flat feet and knock knees and that first exercise felt AMAZING! constant annoying pain and stiffness was finally released with the first rep! ive been trying soo many exercises for my back. THAT WAS IT! was wondering if you have any other exercises that help alleviate problems caused by flat feet and/or knock knees?
i am also a golfer and i was just looking for exercises to help my golf game and this just killed two birds with one stone! thanks!!
+Justin Neels Typically flat fleet are over exaggerated. I have rarely seen any people that are actually flat footed when foot is dynamic or moving. The good thing about that is you can train yourself into a better foot posture. Check out this video ua-cam.com/video/rG3-aqH92rk/v-deo.html and this video: ua-cam.com/video/uiZw0lFXBkA/v-deo.html Add these to all pulling, pushing, and squatting motions. It will take a little bit of time but better intrinsic foot control will help the knock knees.
Great exercises and very good anatomical explanation/instruction - nice gym too! Good stuff for us golfers on your channel, you didn't ask us to subscribe, but I did anyway! Cheers Brandon :)
+Nick Hough Nick thanks for subscribing!

Tanya Walker Thanks for positive feedback!
How many times a week would you suggest performing this workout routine?
depends on your goals and your movement patterns. Without out watching your movements I would say it would be safe to do this 3 times a week. Hope this helps.
+Premier Fitness Systems My goal is to get flexible as quickly as possible. I currently go to the gym 5 days a week and can easily add this to my routine
I have a problem keeping my head forward at address while trying to sustain a straight left arm during rotation. I've compared myself to pros who can rotate as far back as 180 degrees while keeping their head and hips relatively still. I can only seem to get half that rotation. What exercises will allow me to become flexible enough to approach the pros?
+Chea7z give this video and view and let us know if that helps. ua-cam.com/video/sELA_MXBWTM/v-deo.html&lc=z12peloirvurhraea22mevggwsaogvceb
