Well QBs are still the paid the most too. Maybe lets give everyone a participation award to make you happy. QBs are important and that is why they get MVPs.
The NFL needs to have a Cy Young award... just like pitchers in baseball, there should be an award for best QB of the year, separate but almost equivalent to MVP/best position player of the year. The NFL desperately needs to acknowledge that QBs are just a totally different breed/league from any position player. The only fun the MVP has had in the last 20 years has been " _which_ QB will get it?" And if a non QB position player gets MVP, it downright almost feels disingenuous because QBs are the backbone of NFL teams, love it or hate it.
Except, pitchers can win both the Cy Young and the MVP in the same season. It's been done many times, two semi-recent examples being Clayton Kershaw in 2014 and Justin Verlander in 2012. In fact, the existence and prestige of the Cy Young has, at times, been used to rob deserving pitchers of the MVP award. In 1999 Pedro Martinez was the obvious MVP, but a few voters completely left him off their ballot because he was a pitcher and he was just supposed to settle for the Cy Young, so he came in second in MVP despite more first place votes. The Cy Young award and Hank Aaron award in MLB are already equivalents to the Offensive and Defensive players of the year in the NFL. In all of those cases, a player can win one of those awards and then also MVP. If you want to compare to another, the NHL with its wide variety of different awards would be a better template to emulate for the NFL. They've got specific awards for several positions as well as for statistical leaders in different categories.
Throw on the Tapes of Alan Page in 1970-71... They'll scare you. That guy really was MVP. In a single game against Detroit, he Blocked a field goal, scored a safety, caused a fumble that he then recovered and flipped to J. Marshal for a TD, batted down several passes, and recorded multiple sacks. I honestly think Alan might have been better, relative to his era, than JJ Watt in 2014 was. Both all time Studs though. I'm firmly confident the best era of football ever was the late 90s into the early 00's. Big, all star RBs everywhere, major QBs where an older generation (Elway, Marino, Young) signing off and making way for Peyton, Brady, and Brees, and despite all these offensive stars there were still tremendous defenses like the 00 Ravens and 02 Bucs. Teams had to be balanced in their offensive attack, and line backers were a way more defined and important position than nowadays where linebackers and safeties are basically becoming the same thing
This video kinda needed text somewhere on the screen to show what year is being talked about because it seemed to blend too much between years and it was easy to lose track
They didn’t mention the 06 season because Ladanian Tomlinson was the MVP and it wasn’t close that year. As the mentioned 1/15 non QB MVPs, LT surpassed Shaun Alexander’s 05 season marks. Short lived records. LT was HIM
The three best RBs I've ever watched was Barry, ED and Earl. Should have been more than half a dozen MVPs between them. And thanks for mentioning the best all-around LB ever, Derrick Brooks.
Bruh I'm about to turn 27 soon. Seems old now that i right it down. But I use to watch nfl network nfl film all day ever day. And hearing so many of these names earl Campbell, Allen page, A lot of others. Forgetting some through the years. Man how could I?! After watching Randy Moss Career I was like ok.. he was better than Jerry... was already decided before I even got put of high school... after remembering Jerry Rice had 21 TDs! In 12 Games!! Man I'm remembering why I wanted to be Jerry Rice growing up.. Wow. . Thank yall
AB should’ve been given a nod for 2014-2016. That was a dominant 3 year stretch. He had such a great 2017 too and was on an MVP pace with his numbers and memorable catches, but he missed the last 3 regular season games that year. He and Went both getting hurt gifted Brady the MVP that year.
His 2003 season saw him throw 29 touchdowns which somehow is more impressive than Holmes' 27 rushing touchdown. Then there was Kurt Warner who put up better numbers in 2008 with a team who basically never tasted success before him, and in 2009, both Drew Brees and Brett Farve arguably had better overall seasons than Peyton. As good as Peyton was, only 2 of his MVPs were 100% deserved while the other 3 are easily questionable
Just do the math to prove who the MVP's are...take away that player from that team and where do they end up? I recall when the Ravens won their 1st SB in 2000, there's no way it would've gone to anybody on that offense...take away #52 and the greatest defense ever has no field general
just found it weird that a QB just having a good season can overshadow another position having a LEGENDARY season. there needs to be a seperate MVP award
A quarterback is going to win MVP most of the time because it's the most valuable position to play by default, this is why OPOTY and DPOTY awards exist.
In my opinion, the 70s was the greatest era in NFL history and the RB was one of, if not THE, most important position in the game and oh how I miss those days of hard-hitting, super competitive smashmouth football! The early to mid-90s was a great period as well but since then I think the game has just been much like the NBA, yeah, far too easy to score and put up massive offensive stats as the defenses literally are handcuffed. This makes the stats and players from yesteryear suffer. If you have a solid O-line and a damn good defense and a great running back that is all you really need, so long as you run the ball consistently in the first half regardless of success. By doing this you are using the clock, keeping your defense fresh and bringing the opponents DB's and LB's one step closer to the line and that will set up the play action pass and you can do that with just an average QB and WR corp. If you think that smashmouth is boring, go watch some of the full-length games from 1977 (seem to be quite a few from that season on here and with good copies) and tell me that isn't great football that is as good as it gets.
While the QBs are just undeniably the most important and valuable position on the field by far, there should be another award, like an mvp that’s non QB
Hearing some of these stats lines of the winners vs who should of won just proves my point we just need to give QBs their own award so the true mvp of each season can be picked.
I agree with a lot the comments about giving out separate awards for the QB. Or just hand out an award for each position. QB, DB, D-line, O-line, RB, WR, LB, and Special Team. Total of 8 awards.
I'm not from the U.S. but I'vee been a football fan since I was a kid and I'm 40+... What strikes me the most is how many unsung heroes plays and played the NFL. The big guys especially seem to receive the worst treatment. To the QB and goal-line breakers the glory, but even über-talented QBs and pass catchers are nothing without the wall of toughness that is the foundation of every play. Even recent examples have shown us how HoF caliber QBs can get overwhelmed without good protection...
yeah its very disappointing since we have loads of examples of decent or even outright bad QBs making it to superbowls thanks to great lines, recently the 2017 Eagles with Wentz and Foles come to mind, they had 3 all pros on the line in Kelce, Brooks, and Peters, Kelce being a lock for Canton and Peters probably has a pretty good shot himself the issue is that quantifying a lineman's value is really hard, same goes for great linebackers and corners for that matter but its by far the worst for offensive linemen
Love this comment! I played on the O-line for some years so it's always bothered me how they're basically ignored unless they do something wrong. I remember arguing back at my QB one day and telling him that he needed to me block so why was he talking trash.
NFL should definitely have a "Non-QB MVP award," since so many players deserve it, yet if any QB stands out they automatically win it, which isn't fair to all other positions
Exactly. I think issuing the current MVP award should now be done as follows; have a Most Valuable Quarterback Award (MVQB), as well as have a Most Valuable Player award (MVP) that would subsequently be issued to only positions that are not quarterbacks. This would make other positions a lot more competitive for the award, as this would eliminate a quarterbacks natural advantage because of the positions perception
Tom Brady QB of the year, Barry Sanders RB of the year, Jerry Rice WR of the year, Tony Gonzalez TE of the year, Orlando Pace O Lineman of the year, Aaron Donald D Lineman of the year, Lawrence Taylor OLB of the year, Ray Lewis ILB of the year, Deion Sanders CB of the year, Ed Reed FS of the year, Troy Polomalu SS of the year, Adam Vinetarri K of the year awards would fix the QBs always winning MVP issue.
I wish they did a QB of the year award at this point. It can be regarded as an MVP trophy for historical purposes, but makes at least one other position matter.
Good concept, thanks for making. There should be an MVQ since they usually win it, and then an MVP, kinda like how there's OPOY. Qb wins it every year, so might as well just have an award for them and then one for every other position so non QBs have a chance
the JJ watt one was absolutely the one I will never forgive the NFL for. JJ was on both sides of the ball putting in quality work and still didn't get MVP. Not 1, not 2, but the man had 3 touchdowns to go with the monster defensive stats. The awards name should be changed to Most Valuable Passer.
Sorry, NFL traditionalist, but sometimes greatness must be recognized as being downright GREAT. So, if someone on defense(as WaTT was in 2014) has an all-time, uniquely dominant season. Besides getting the Defensive Player of the Year award. The dude should definitely get the outright NFL MVP award for his play. Especially in a year where no QB or RB had an unmatched statistical year... Even the old farts who decide the MLB awards will recognize those crazy unique years when a pitcher has a generationally great season, and thus, they will give him both the Cy Young and the MVP award. NFL should take a page outta their book.🎉

Really interesting to see that the gronk is the only tight end on here.
Can’t believe Adrian Peterson was not mentioned other than an honorable mention in 2008..
Great video…Is it possible to dig up footage from Deacon Jones and see how many sacks he had? That would be something different 🤷🏻♂️
if sacks were recorded when he played then he would have had 173.5 thru his career, which would make him 3rd all time
THIS CHANNEL IS THE BEST!!
I still love that Mark Moseley won mvp as kicker. I don't think that will ever happen again.
Yes Derrick Brooks should gave won MVP in 2002 agree also Earl could have won 3 MVPs his first 3 years that's how good he was
They should make QB MVP it’s own award.
Wow. . Thank yall
this is one of my favorite videos from you guys and the mvp award is a QB award
AB should’ve been given a nod for 2014-2016. That was a dominant 3 year stretch. He had such a great 2017 too and was on an MVP pace with his numbers and memorable catches, but he missed the last 3 regular season games that year. He and Went both getting hurt gifted Brady the MVP that year.
Exactly what I thought
he never gets apprexiated and thats not fair , that man was unplayable in his day
Pretend this comment is important and like it.
Yes sir
You should do Super Bowl MVP snubs
Peyton Manning winning 4 MVP’s in 5 seasons in just insane 🤯
I mean the 2009-2010 season should’ve went to Drew Brees I believe.
And he nothing to show for it.
Just do the math to prove who the MVP's are...take away that player from that team and where do they end up? I recall when the Ravens won their 1st SB in 2000, there's no way it would've gone to anybody on that offense...take away #52 and the greatest defense ever has no field general
@@keithfloydjr4014 well take #18 away from Colts and they don’t have the most winningest decade in the NFL
just found it weird that a QB just having a good season can overshadow another position having a LEGENDARY season. there needs to be a seperate MVP award
100% accurate, exactly!
Proverbs 11:18
The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
A quarterback is going to win MVP most of the time because it's the most valuable position to play by default, this is why OPOTY and DPOTY awards exist.
Yeah, but there is a notorious advantage for them when voting for MVP award, hence the conversation for multiple MVPs
Really cool video idea
Now do Heisman Winners if QBs and RBs didn’t exist
I know it’s not NFL but it’s something I really wanna see…
While the QBs are just undeniably the most important and valuable position on the field by far, there should be another award, like an mvp that’s non QB
100 percent. To prevent it from being overvalued
Hearing some of these stats lines of the winners vs who should of won just proves my point we just need to give QBs their own award so the true mvp of each season can be picked.
This vid just makes me mad😭 so many deserved MVP winners
NFL not hiding it anymore
I agree with a lot the comments about giving out separate awards for the QB. Or just hand out an award for each position. QB, DB, D-line, O-line, RB, WR, LB, and Special Team. Total of 8 awards.
They kinda have that with All-Pro.
Ray Lewis deserved a mention for 2000 and 2003
I honestly don't even care about the MVP anymore because it goes to a QB every year!!
Even recent examples have shown us how HoF caliber QBs can get overwhelmed without good protection...
yeah its very disappointing since we have loads of examples of decent or even outright bad QBs making it to superbowls thanks to great lines, recently the 2017 Eagles with Wentz and Foles come to mind, they had 3 all pros on the line in Kelce, Brooks, and Peters, Kelce being a lock for Canton and Peters probably has a pretty good shot himself
the issue is that quantifying a lineman's value is really hard, same goes for great linebackers and corners for that matter but its by far the worst for offensive linemen
Love this comment! I played on the O-line for some years so it's always bothered me how they're basically ignored unless they do something wrong. I remember arguing back at my QB one day and telling him that he needed to me block so why was he talking trash.
I know AB is a nut job nowadays but he definitely deserves to be on this list. He was a monster for Pittsburgh pre loonacy
I wish they would make a 'Cy Young' award for QBs so MVP would be interesting again.
Amazing video, imagine someone getting 10 picks in a era where QBs rarely threw the ball
I loved this video
MVP is really just a Quarterback award lol
I Love Your Cool 😎 Video 📸 NFL Throwback 🏈🏉 Keep Up The Good Work.
Great list. NFL should take notice.
the JJ watt one was absolutely the one I will never forgive the NFL for. JJ was on both sides of the ball putting in quality work and still didn't get MVP. Not 1, not 2, but the man had 3 touchdowns to go with the monster defensive stats. The awards name should be changed to Most Valuable Passer.
JJ Watt in 2014 was the most dominant season of all time
Hands down
Amazing video Keep em' coming
Great video!
Look at ol' Shay Sharpe blocking for Jamal Lewis at 11:40.
Think back to the fact that LT was the first defensive player to win MVP in 1986, and for the most part, it’s only given to nobody but offensive players, particularly the Quarterback
Alan Page 1971??
@@aramnishanian4404 Alan Page is even more impressive considering he was an interior lineman
@@youstinklolgotakeashower Alan page didn’t change the game
It's amazing how all these feats of greatness get tossed aside because of quarterbacks. There should just be a top quarterback award and an MVP award.
JJ Watt in 2014 deserved MVP...Idc what Rodgers did, that was crazy stuff
QBs would still be factored in MVP candidacy.
@@iamhungey12345In this case, I believe he means it (quarterback position) would not be factored in MVP award, but rather QB of the year award
@@TheJusticefornone If so then he goofed on his wording.
Only 2 things I disagree with is, I think Lt should have won in 86 and micheal Strahan should have won in 2001
Man this video just makes me wanna go track down all these amazing backs jerseys to own
Awesome video, love your videos.
Also, Micah Parsons, Von Miller, the Bosa Brothers and Trevon Diggs should be up there
Trevon Diggs?? Why not just say you don't know anything about football.
Cooper Kupp wouldn’t have won MVP if QBs didn’t exist, he wouldn’t have had anyone to throw him the ball

In todays league its hard to have a bigger impact than the quarterback.
Watt should have been MVP in 2014. Just like in 2021, Rodgers stole an MVP from a more deserving player.
The worse is 1987 Jerry Rice season AP did him wrong gave it to Elway EVERY NEWS OUTLET AND JOURNALIST HAD Jerry at MVP except AP goes to show they force QB to be the most valued when they only 25% of the game
Does anyone know the name of the BGM at 10:30 - 12:51?
0:41 Jonathan Taylor had more yards and more TD’s than him in 2021 though…
I'm surpirsed Lawrence Taylor wasn't even mentioned at all during the 80's let alone not winning mulitiple of these years.
So is anyone gonna explain how Jerry Rice had 22 touchdowns in only 12 or is that what supposed to happen when a 🐐 goat is involved???
Good video concept
You honestly killed it with this video. Why not do a “QB of the year and MVNQB of the year”
OPOY is slowly becoming non-QB of the year since people got tired of it being a duplicate of MVP
@@memeteam2692Agreed. However defensive players can be voted for MVP, not OPOY
@@TheJusticefornone realistically tho, if 2014 JJ 2018 Donald and 2021 TJ didn't win MVP can we ever expect a defensive player to win it?
@@memeteam2692 Defensive players have won the MVP in the past before. It is just that they have won it substantially less compared to non-defensive players, especially quarterbacks
Jerry Rice makes you think that when he started to set all time records, it was 1995... he still had 8 full seasons left plus 2004
Great video
The MVP of the 2021 season should have been Jonathan Taylor and not Kupp. The Rams would still have won a bunch of games without him. Taylor had a combined 2171 yards and 20 TDs. Without Taylor, the Colts would win very few games -- as you saw this season. Kupp got more attention because he played for a better team in a much bigger market. But Taylor was the best. He should have gotten more MVP talk and probably would have had the rest of his team not been so bad.
0:46 good. i was worried that they were only gonna talk about kupp but they included tj. Best defender in the league. so so valuable. hell i would say he woulda been mvp and not kupp
