Btw Journeys is going very well but I think it would be a bad decision to not bring back any old pokemon in such a huge tournament. I would explain why.... Firstly if Ash wins the whole tournament with just his journeys team, people would think what would be the case if he used greninja, charizard, etc he would just have crushed Leon. And secondly if he loses or ties with Leon, then it would be more unacceptable because we know that Ash always loses just by a slight difference in every big tournament. So that means he would have won against leon if he used greninja, charizard etc. Hence in any situation, they should bring back some old mons.

Ash have to bring his old mons back. The writers already know that we want and expect that to happen. Why would they show us his old mons if they won't appear in the tournament anyways. The win in this tournament represents his growth and experience as a trainer he got since his journey began. And that obviously includes his old mons too

And Goh still have to catch Pidgeot. It's the last Pokemon he misses from the Pidgey evolution line. The issue is that he can only use a few and his current 5 + pikachu are 6 already. They should have done 6 vs6 and bring back mons in earlier fights too.
Actually in the Master’s 8 preview we can see a G-Max Rillaboom and the only trainer I know could have one is Leon. Maybe that is a good strategy. After all, Charizard is really strong without gigantamaxing so maybe he plans to use it on Rillaboom. Edit: I just now realized this video came before the Master’s 8 preview.
Just looking at a few of the M8 trainers I could see Iris having: Haxorus, Dragonite, Druddigon, Gabite/Garchomp, Flapple (can Gmax). I think having battled her way through the hyper class she may have added a few more dragons to her team and maybe even a Pokemon that can gigantamax. Diantha: I agree with picks but I would also give a mention to Auroras and Goodra as there also on her team in the games. I could also see her maybe having a Galarian Rapidash or Hatterene. Alain alongside his team I think could have Rillaboom, another flying type like Corviknight/Pidgeot, Sableye and/or Hydreigon (another pseudo legendary).

Flapple makes way more sense; Iris loves apples and you’ve got a dragon/grass Pokemon who is an apple. It’s literally a match made in heaven. That said, if Iris is over her fear of ice types it would be great character development.
Lapras could be the way of iris not being afraid of ice types. I could see it. Plus lapras is my fav. Cythina could use eeleektross. That’s something for pikachu to fight against

Honestly it would be great if their teams get swapped between the battles. This way more pokemon can have the spotlight. And the competitors can surprise their next oppenent, with which pokemon they're going to use. If they need to keep using the same pokemon team the entire tournament, everyone becomes more predictable for the next opponent.
Just imagine Ash brings Charizard and greninja and against Leon his team would be Pikachu, Charizard, Dragonite, Greninja, Lucario and Gengar that would be 🔥
Honestly, if Ash has older mon return, I imagine we'd see Charizard, Snorlax, Sceptile, Infernape, Gible (it's crazy strong as is and would only be even crazier if fully evolved), Krookadile, Greninja and Lycanroc. I'd also want to see Naganadel if it returned from it's home dimension, or Melmetal because it's a cool pokemon.

Ash’s Charizard, Greninja and Infernape probably have the highest chances of returning for the tournament. Greninja vs Charizard, Charizard vs Dragonite and Infernape vs Garchomp (all have previous rivalries) would be cool to see.
I hope all these battles are 6 on 6 because we can see all old Pokémon back and it’ll be more hype. Like imagine 2 or 3 parters like ash vs Paul would be unreal.
This year & the last half of last year I’ve seen lots of rumour posts (all were about what will happen after Ash makes it to master 8), there was Ash catching strong Pokémon before the the tournament starting, past Pokémon returning. Which with the past Pokémon returning, for the tournament I saw multiple of Infernape & Torterra. I not 100% percent sure if this will happen but if there is especially the grass type from past series, I hope it’s Sceptile.
Honestly, I don't think Ash should bring back any of his old Pokemon. He's made this journey with the Pokemon he's caught during the tournament, and it's their journey to finish alongside him.
Ash needs to use Greninja against Alain, Infernape against Cynthia and he seriously also needs to use Incineroar that poor Pokémon deserves the spotlight! I like the idea of characters like Iris and Alain also getting Gen 8 Pokémon not only for surprise but also to get more Galar Pokémon in the anime I would have Cynthia have Hatterene a strong Galar Pokémon or something crazy like Hisuian Arcanine. Steven Runerigus or Stonjourner because if the mineral and rock love. Lance have one of the Applin lines because Dragon types. Diantha have Frosmoth as it’s a pretty Pokémon I can see being a model Pokémon. Id love 6v6 so that its more likely that we will see returning pokemon specifically greninja, infernape & charizard. But i think if he sticks to 3 it will have to be pikachu (z move), lucario (mega) & gengar (gigantamax)
People don't seem to understand the entire point of Pokemon Journeys. Ash's story has come full circle, and he's already using his best Pokemon to call his "Pokemon Master Team". He's been competing in front of the world and they all have recognition and, fanbase wise, they were the most requested Pokemon for Ash to have since Indigo League. 1. Dragonite was requested since Indigo League. 2. Gengar is the same. 3. Farfetch'd is the same. 4. Lucario was requested and hinted since it's debut movie. 5. Dracovish is an anomaly. Fans requested Ash to have an Uber, that isn't a legendary so they aren't too broken (looking at you Melmetal and Neganadel). *Edit* Dracovish fits the mold because this is considered the Galar Region anime and not only is it the strongest non-legendary, Competitively, but it's also confirmed as newly discovered to Galar, which makes it original to Ash's team. Why would he switch in an old pick when they don't bring anything new to the table that his current team isn't already doing. Ash hasn't switched Pokemon since Black and White, it's NOT his style. *2nd Edit* For anymore proof he: Beat an electric master with his electric type. Beat a fighting master with his fighting types . Beat 2 dragon masters with his dragon types. Met a ghost master to perfect his ghost type. The story has built up for this moment. This IS Ash's strongest team.

The elite four in the anime are depicted as complete beasts and Dracovish soloed Mega Altartia, Drasna's ace, and her Noivern. At the very least, Dracovish is op. Maybe not greninja/charizard level, but still op.
Hmm, I think for the most part, aces and anything newly introduced in Journeys are pretty much locks for teams. (Like, Cynthia's Roserade stands a better chance of being used [or have more screentime] than her Glaceon.) Remaining spots are filled by either game references or *reserves. (*I see Tyranitar is a common prediction for Alain's team, but I feel like it'll likely be swapped for something new for a few reasons: 1. We're already had Sandstorm used via Raihan. 2. The fact that Gary [and Team Rocket] were given one could lower its chances of appearing; same with Steven having Metagross. 3. Bisharp feels more synonymous with Alain; Tyranitar just made Pikachu look hardcore. xD) But yeah, I only see 3v3s for everything but the final round. (Coming up with 7 unique 6v6s; with Champions at that, sounds like it'd be a pain to animate without skipping or rushing)

For me, Ash's best team would be: Pikachu, Greninja, Infernape, Sceptile, Lucario, Charizard/Dragonite. But I would also love to see Ash use all mechanics in the Final Battle with Leon: Mega Evolution: Lucario Bond Phenomenon: Greninja GMax: Gengar Z Move: Pikachu That would be awesome!
With one gimmick per battle I wonder what gimmicks Cynthia and Iris will use. Leon will use only Gigantamax (Charizard and Rilaboom). Lance will focus on his Gyarados, potentially going for Mega and Dynamax. Alain, Steven and Diantha will probably only use Megas. Ash will use each gimmick on each specific run. My bet is Z-Move against Cynthia or Iris, Mega against Alain and Gigantamax against Leon. We haven't seen Iris in Galar, so my bet is that she will use only Dynamax, maybe Gigantamax. She haven't revealed other powers, so those would make sense, if she even uses one. Problem is to pick her team. If she had her BW2 team, Gigantamax Lapras and Mega Aggron would make sense. Dynamax Haxorus or Dragonite would also be possible. In Sinnoh Remakes they deliberately didn't include megas, so I think Cynthia may be actually bringing the signature Kommo-o Z-move to not make that gimmick Ash-only and she may not be getting mega Garchomp ever. I could see her Dynamax it though. Personally I only wish that we only will see two Dragonites (Ash's and Irises), two Charizards (Leon's and Alain's) and that Lance won't be bringing his... I would much rather see him use gen 5+ mon, Alolan Exeggutor, Kingdra or Aerodactyl. But I can already feel Mega Charizard Y... I don't know, we will see.

as much as we want him to bring back his old pokemon it ain't happening. just not how the anime series works. even if he did it would probably be only one for a particular match(Greninja v Alain's Mzard) but even in thatv case, he's going to use Lucario hence the episode of Lucario learning from Greninja and they basically showed why Greninja can't leave where he's at. what would be great is if he brought back one mon per fight which would make more sense, and I'm pretty sure Pikachu isn't battling in every fight so that does bring up plenty of options. but still, we already know it's not going to happen because if he would have brought back Pokemon for other regions he easily could have won but that's not how the anime ever goes. fetch Dragonite still need to appear and Gengar was taken care of in the battle vs raihan. Lucario is probably the only main stay for every battle and they have been pushing it pretty hard throughout journeys so far just like how they have with infernape/Greninja etc... with what little we know, 3 Pokemon, only one gimmick, and that it's not a round robin meaning there will only be 3 battles maximum including the finals for ash, the theory for his final team is easier then his first two matches. if he makes the championships, which I'm guessing he doesn't, my guess on his final team is starting with Dragonite then Lucario and Pikachu to end. my actual theory is that ash loses but the championships will be stopped by something and after everybody helps to defeat the problem, Leon accepts ash's challenge even though there's no championship anymore and he actually wins and defeats Leon. ash doesn't want to win the championships, he's only wanted to beat Leon. whether it was in a tournament or not I don't think ash cares. that's been his persona the whole series so far.

I hope in Ash vs Leon, it'll be a full battle. I wish Leon could have Urshifu and Eternatus. I hope Diantha will use Aurorus. it fit's her much better. Tyrantrum fits Ash much better. hatterene would be a great new addition to her as well. Lance needs to use Gyarados, Dragonite and Aerodactyl.

Firstly if Ash wins the whole tournament with just his journeys team, people would think what would be the case if he used greninja, charizard, etc he would just have crushed Leon.
And secondly if he loses or ties with Leon, then it would be more unacceptable because we know that Ash always loses just by a slight difference in every big tournament. So that means he would have won against leon if he used greninja, charizard etc.
Hence in any situation, they should bring back some old mons.
The issue is that he can only use a few and his current 5 + pikachu are 6 already. They should have done 6 vs6 and bring back mons in earlier fights too.

Actually in the Master’s 8 preview we can see a G-Max Rillaboom and the only trainer I know could have one is Leon. Maybe that is a good strategy. After all, Charizard is really strong without gigantamaxing so maybe he plans to use it on Rillaboom.

Just looking at a few of the M8 trainers I could see Iris having: Haxorus, Dragonite, Druddigon, Gabite/Garchomp, Flapple (can Gmax). I think having battled her way through the hyper class she may have added a few more dragons to her team and maybe even a Pokemon that can gigantamax.
Diantha: I agree with picks but I would also give a mention to Auroras and Goodra as there also on her team in the games. I could also see her maybe having a Galarian Rapidash or Hatterene.
Alain alongside his team I think could have Rillaboom, another flying type like Corviknight/Pidgeot, Sableye and/or Hydreigon (another pseudo legendary).

Flapple makes way more sense; Iris loves apples and you’ve got a dragon/grass Pokemon who is an apple. It’s literally a match made in heaven. That said, if Iris is over her fear of ice types it would be great character development.
Lapras could be the way of iris not being afraid of ice types. I could see it. Plus lapras is my fav.

Honestly it would be great if their teams get swapped between the battles. This way more pokemon can have the spotlight. And the competitors can surprise their next oppenent, with which pokemon they're going to use. If they need to keep using the same pokemon team the entire tournament, everyone becomes more predictable for the next opponent.

Honestly, if Ash has older mon return, I imagine we'd see Charizard, Snorlax, Sceptile, Infernape, Gible (it's crazy strong as is and would only be even crazier if fully evolved), Krookadile, Greninja and Lycanroc. I'd also want to see Naganadel if it returned from it's home dimension, or Melmetal because it's a cool pokemon.

They are not overshadowed by lucario it's because of journeys episodes. Ash's pokemon don't that much spotlight only lucario get some ( not more and lucario didn't even get much better spotlight like old pokemon of ash). And lucaro is not a overrated pokemon it's greeninja , charizard and sceptile.

Ash’s Charizard, Greninja and Infernape probably have the highest chances of returning for the tournament. Greninja vs Charizard, Charizard vs Dragonite and Infernape vs Garchomp (all have previous rivalries) would be cool to see.
Infernape should be used against Cynthia and of course Greninja against Alain and the Journey Team for Leon
I hope all these battles are 6 on 6 because we can see all old Pokémon back and it’ll be more hype. Like imagine 2 or 3 parters like ash vs Paul would be unreal.
This year & the last half of last year I’ve seen lots of rumour posts (all were about what will happen after Ash makes it to master 8), there was Ash catching strong Pokémon before the the tournament starting, past Pokémon returning. Which with the past Pokémon returning, for the tournament I saw multiple of Infernape & Torterra. I not 100% percent sure if this will happen but if there is especially the grass type from past series, I hope it’s Sceptile.
Honestly, I don't think Ash should bring back any of his old Pokemon. He's made this journey with the Pokemon he's caught during the tournament, and it's their journey to finish alongside him.

People don't seem to understand the entire point of Pokemon Journeys.
Ash's story has come full circle, and he's already using his best Pokemon to call his "Pokemon Master Team".
He's been competing in front of the world and they all have recognition and, fanbase wise, they were the most requested Pokemon for Ash to have since Indigo League.
1. Dragonite was requested since Indigo League.
2. Gengar is the same.
3. Farfetch'd is the same.
4. Lucario was requested and hinted since it's debut movie.
5. Dracovish is an anomaly. Fans requested Ash to have an Uber, that isn't a legendary so they aren't too broken (looking at you Melmetal and Neganadel).
*Edit* Dracovish fits the mold because this is considered the Galar Region anime and not only is it the strongest non-legendary, Competitively, but it's also confirmed as newly discovered to Galar, which makes it original to Ash's team.
Why would he switch in an old pick when they don't bring anything new to the table that his current team isn't already doing. Ash hasn't switched Pokemon since Black and White, it's NOT his style.

Hmm, I think for the most part, aces and anything newly introduced in Journeys are pretty much locks for teams. (Like, Cynthia's Roserade stands a better chance of being used [or have more screentime] than her Glaceon.) Remaining spots are filled by either game references or *reserves. (*I see Tyranitar is a common prediction for Alain's team, but I feel like it'll likely be swapped for something new for a few reasons: 1. We're already had Sandstorm used via Raihan. 2. The fact that Gary [and Team Rocket] were given one could lower its chances of appearing; same with Steven having Metagross. 3. Bisharp feels more synonymous with Alain; Tyranitar just made Pikachu look hardcore. xD)
But yeah, I only see 3v3s for everything but the final round. (Coming up with 7 unique 6v6s; with Champions at that, sounds like it'd be a pain to animate without skipping or rushing)

For me, Ash's best team would be: Pikachu, Greninja, Infernape, Sceptile, Lucario, Charizard/Dragonite.
But I would also love to see Ash use all mechanics in the Final Battle with Leon:
Mega Evolution: Lucario
Bond Phenomenon: Greninja
GMax: Gengar
Z Move: Pikachu

With one gimmick per battle I wonder what gimmicks Cynthia and Iris will use.
Leon will use only Gigantamax (Charizard and Rilaboom).
Lance will focus on his Gyarados, potentially going for Mega and Dynamax.
Alain, Steven and Diantha will probably only use Megas.
Ash will use each gimmick on each specific run. My bet is Z-Move against Cynthia or Iris, Mega against Alain and Gigantamax against Leon.
We haven't seen Iris in Galar, so my bet is that she will use only Dynamax, maybe Gigantamax. She haven't revealed other powers, so those would make sense, if she even uses one. Problem is to pick her team. If she had her BW2 team, Gigantamax Lapras and Mega Aggron would make sense. Dynamax Haxorus or Dragonite would also be possible.
In Sinnoh Remakes they deliberately didn't include megas, so I think Cynthia may be actually bringing the signature Kommo-o Z-move to not make that gimmick Ash-only and she may not be getting mega Garchomp ever. I could see her Dynamax it though.
Personally I only wish that we only will see two Dragonites (Ash's and Irises), two Charizards (Leon's and Alain's) and that Lance won't be bringing his... I would much rather see him use gen 5+ mon, Alolan Exeggutor, Kingdra or Aerodactyl. But I can already feel Mega Charizard Y... I don't know, we will see.

as much as we want him to bring back his old pokemon it ain't happening. just not how the anime series works. even if he did it would probably be only one for a particular match(Greninja v Alain's Mzard) but even in thatv case, he's going to use Lucario hence the episode of Lucario learning from Greninja and they basically showed why Greninja can't leave where he's at. what would be great is if he brought back one mon per fight which would make more sense, and I'm pretty sure Pikachu isn't battling in every fight so that does bring up plenty of options. but still, we already know it's not going to happen because if he would have brought back Pokemon for other regions he easily could have won but that's not how the anime ever goes. fetch Dragonite still need to appear and Gengar was taken care of in the battle vs raihan. Lucario is probably the only main stay for every battle and they have been pushing it pretty hard throughout journeys so far just like how they have with infernape/Greninja etc... with what little we know, 3 Pokemon, only one gimmick, and that it's not a round robin meaning there will only be 3 battles maximum including the finals for ash, the theory for his final team is easier then his first two matches. if he makes the championships, which I'm guessing he doesn't, my guess on his final team is starting with Dragonite then Lucario and Pikachu to end.
my actual theory is that ash loses but the championships will be stopped by something and after everybody helps to defeat the problem, Leon accepts ash's challenge even though there's no championship anymore and he actually wins and defeats Leon. ash doesn't want to win the championships, he's only wanted to beat Leon. whether it was in a tournament or not I don't think ash cares. that's been his persona the whole series so far.

Cynthia : Garchomp (Dragonium Z) , Kommo-o and Rosrade Why do I think so? Because Cynthia has the Dragon of Alola, so she must have been there, so she can have the Dragon Z-move :)
Steven : Metagross (Mega) , Aggron and Corviknight/Sandslash he focuses on the Steel type and most of his pokemon in the game are not Steel which is kind of silly
Lance : Gyardos , Dragonite and Aerodactyl (Mega) This set is OK and I would love to see it
Diantha : Gardevoir (Mega) , Aurorus/Tyrantum and Goodra I can not see anything better, although Diantha looks like a trainer who likes the fairy type, so I would give her more pokemon of this type, although it probably won't be like that

Iris : Haxorus , Dragonite and Lapras( Gmax)
