A lot of people underestimate Alain just because he’s not a “champion”. A powerful trainer doesn’t need to be a “champion” of a region to be on the same level as these champions. Alain deserves to be there and not just because there is a score for Ash to settle but because for many reasons Alain is on a champions level perhaps he could even be stronger than a few of the champions in the m8… There is no doubt in my mind he has accomplished quite a bit throughout his journey with Marin and his work with Professor Sycamore. I don’t see Alain being eliminated so early in the m8 unless ofcourse he battles Ash first… What I hope is that Alain’s team gets an update hopefully he has an Alolan Pokémon and Galar Pokémon on his team just to make things more interesting… Also Alain joined for quite a few reasons…one of them due to Ash being there. Back in XYZ, Ash inspired Alain to go to gyms win 8 badges and enter the Kalos league and meet him there which is what he did. Ash also made Alain realise that its important to be serious while also having fun and that he also didn’t care about the bad things Alain did but rather cared about the person/trainer he got to know…
To be fair, there are only 7 Champions for 8 regions (Lance is the Kanto-Johto champion which these two regions share leagues), so there's always going to be one outsider in the Masters 8. I guess it's the concept that Gen1 Champion was actually your rival, so the anime just pulled back the most recent rival that Ash has never beaten before. Yeah Gary is also an assistant of Professor Oak now, but he already joined Project Mew. Alain pretty much still has the hype of becoming the very best with his Charizard I guess.
Its good to be an xy stan. Alain is my second favorite rival next to sawyer and probably my favorite character outside ash. And i was actually happy he won the kalos league

I think he is in the masters 8 for a couple reasons, to beat Diantha and Mega Gardevoir to secure that he is stronger than the Kalos Champion and succeed in his goals to be the best Mega Evolution trainer, for then Ash to beat him so he can finally get his Kalos league loss revenge and for Ash to beat the Kalos league “Champion” without having to battle Diantha
Plot twist Ash beats Leon in the simi finals and loses to Cynthia in the finals. 😭😭 I'm happy Alain is finally back in the series and is a top tier in the verse (rightfully so) but if Mega Lucario beats Mega Charizard X I'm calling cap.
Unfortunately no. Winning a Pokémon league means that you can challenge the elite 4 and then challenge the champion for the title. At least in the first 6 regions anyways. Alola and Galar are different Anyhow, clearly Alain chose not to do any of that, and just returned to being a research assistant. With him being in the Master’s 8, the best way I can describe that is he capable in competing with the other champions, he’s just doesn’t have the title officially.
Maybe he is still using the same Mega Ring and Stone because the writers forgot that he got rid off it.. It's not like the writers care about the anime storyline that much so I would not be surprised if they forgot that about Alain.
