I have been putting off for years getting into kayaking and adventuring off the beaten path. You have inspired me and my son to finally pull the trigger and get started. Thank you for the inspiration! Love the videos!
That's awesome Bill! I'm sure you two will be glad you did. Can't wait for my little boy to get a couple years older where he can join me.... It's all about the memories.... Thanks for the great comment!
Same but just watch and get small bits of views behind him sometimes front?? Fast foward and saved my cash for other things and let nature have it to themselfs
You now what's very cool. You answer back everyone's comments....Thanks for taking the time, and send thanks to your wife for being a great sport about you being away on these trips sharing these adventures with us. Very cool...you all are some good people...Thanks again.
+Frank LoGrande Aw Frank, what an awesome comment! I try to, it's part of what I enjoy about it. I'll let her know for sure!!! She is hesitant at times but when I share thinkgs like this with her I hope it helps.... I appreciate your kind words and you taking the time to watch and comment as well Frank. Much appreciated.
+SailingandSuch oh yeah...next time u have octopus...put some lemon juice in it. If you have other fish with it, mix it all together not forgetting the lemon juice, some olive oil, and a little salt and pepper. great fish salad.
My brother and I often paddled creeks where we drag a lot and we got to call this muscling over the rocks and sand ' boot scooting". Enjoyed the video.
Hey, I'm just watching your paradise video on my TV. You have this tripod chair, I see them at Menards. which is a local lumber/Home building supply store at least in the Midwest. The chairs sell for $8.00 a piece. If you buy 2 of them, you can take the fabric from the top of one and put it on the bottom of the second one and you will have a $16.00 chair that doesn't sink in the sand. Love your vids!
I’m from this area, and I like watching you float our river here. I wanted to let you know they tore the Dam down! I have not been there yet, but me and my Nephew were talking about floating it. He has been down there on his canoe and the Dam is gone now!
Thank you for the video. We are adding this one to our "must do" list. So what we learned from you: Carry both hammock and tent and look for the rope or else... LOL Also a portable kayak cart to get around the dam. :) Can't wait to do this! Be safe out there and Paddle On!!!
I really enjoyed this one too. My son and I were loving the little rapids you went through. I'm real close to buying a Kayak and doing an adventure as well. Thanks for the video and all of the advise you share. God is Great!
+FogDog68 That's great!!!! Glad you both find them enjoyable. Yea, the rapids were a good addition to the trip for sure. Glad to hear that, what kayak are you looking at getting? You're welcome, thanks for watching and commenting!
Leaning towards the Loon 106 or 120. Should have plenty of room for my gear, plus be stable for when I go out onto the Ohio River. Whatever I end up with, i will post a video of, on the first trip. Some really nice places to pull up and camp on the Kentucky side of the river.
+Jeremy Handzel That's great Jeremy! Hope you are able to get out there and there and enjoy some spots off the beaten path. That's where the adventure awaits!
I'm a little late on this adventure. Looked like great fun. No octopus in a can for me, I'll just go hungry, I just about gagged. Looked like a tough portage as well. Thank goodness you shaved so you could stay all handsome, LOL. Better than Netflix!
+Adventure Outdoors Oh it was fun for sure! Haha, that was an exciting little part. Wait till you see my next punishment meal..... That portage was pretty tough really, very cool though. Got to look good for the wife when she picks me up you know? Thanks for the comment!
I love kayaking but just had bicep surgery and will not be able to paddle for three months. Watching your videos has been great therapy. Keep up the great work and thank you so much.
Years late to watch this video. A friend and I went down this river from 231 down to somewhere. It was years ago, maybe around 2008. The water was higher then so we didn't have much issue in a canoe. About a month ago, a different friend and I went down the Conecuh from Hwy 29 down to Goshen. We had planned to go all the way down to Brantley but that part of the river was absolutly log-jammed, trees laid OVER the water in two places. Took us all day just to get to Goshen. Spent the night on the bank very unprepared and called for a ride in the morning. Was not the leisurely river trip I had hoped for but was a fun adventure nonetheless.
Hey Trip, I so very much appreciate your time making these videos. I watch you quite a bit. Wish I could paddle w u some day but I'm in Oregon. kinda far. I love your passion. I screwed up last week and wound up finally getting off the the river way after dark on a stretch I didn't know. Pushed thru a couple rapids trying to beat the sunset and got wet a couple times. Finally saw a couple kayaks on the bank about 9:30 pm so I pulled in there just above another substantial sounding rapid. Still 3 or so miles from my appointed ramp. After a climb I emerged next to the home of the kayak owners. They gave me a ride to my rig with my kayak. Great day, not so great night. But awesome people helped me to get home safely... I really didn't want to bother anyone. They said it was good that I did, as what was ahead should not be dealt w at night for sure, I agreed... Take good care my Man. Smiles
I watched a few of your videos. No matter how a situation turns out,it seems to me you just laugh it off. You have a lot of fun!! and that's what it is all about. Just like the honey badger, it don't..... give a shit! You're one funny dude. Keep up your great adventures because I just subscribed. :)
+Keith Lapere Awesome Keith! Thanks for subscribing! That's what you've got to do, laugh it off and just keep having fun. I find that most things in life can be laughed off or just let go. Glad you enjoy my videos. I've had to put off finishing up the Pea River a couple of weeks unfortunately but those weeks have passed. Lord willing I should be headed back down there this coming weekend.
Just got into kayak fishing this year and really enjoy what nature gives us. Had a funny moment in a creek one day. The route I took there was a tree blocking the way. Since it was a fingerling creek, decided to take another route, only to come up on the other side of the same tree!!! All I could do is laugh! Great times and loving every minute of it!
When I first saw one of your vids come up in youtube I thought "Who the heck would watch an hour long video on some guy camping?" I began watching and couldn't stop! I've almost watched em all! It's awesome what you are doing, I love your videos. I've recently gotten into kayak fishing and really love being out on the water. Question tho: what is the black canister thing you have dangling off your pfd? Keep it up, you have a great attitude and it's fun to see.
Yea, they are longer than your typical camping or outdoor video but they are also different which I'm happy to hear makes them bare able. So glad you enjoy the videos! Hope you get a chance to get Out There and enjoy some camping along with your fishing. That is a little camera holder, I had it on there but I've taken it off now as I never used it. Thanks for watching and I'll keep the camera rolling!
Trip- I would drive there all the way from Wisconsin just to take a trip with the trip. all around stand up guy. love your videos. I am planning my first yak packing trip on the beautiful kickapoo river in Ontario Wisconsin. vid coming soon. thank you for the inspiration.
Low water levels can really take the fun out of a kayak trip. You had a great attitude about it. That river had too much driftwood on the first part of the video for me; dangerous stuff. On to your next enjoyable video :)
It can make things more difficult, but you can make it fun I guess lol Yea, when there is a lot of trees in moving water it is a little sketchy no doubt. Glad you enjoy them! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thought about either a bow or stern line (kayak length) for times such as your log crossing at the 14:00 minute mark ???? That way you won't let it get away from you. With a stern line you could catch the kayak if you overturned and had to swim after it :) :) :)
+geech08 Thanks Geech! Hoping to do another this weekend. Might have to postpone it as my throat started hurting pretty good yesterday :(. Maybe it will pass by tomorrow and I can get on with it. I'm disappointed to looking back on it..... What a wimp. lol Thanks for the comment!
drop down skeg is an amazing choice.little maintenance involved but nothing wrong with learning something new about your gear ( kayak ).thanks for the reply.I can say I spoke to a celebrity today.....sikkkkkke!!haha.great vids
Yea, I'm interested to see how I like the skeg. I think it'll be worth the little bit of hassle. You're welcome, I try to reply to just about everyone's comments. Celeb? lol Yea right! Thanks, glad you enjoy them!
+jerami101 Sweet Jerami! Congrats on your first kayak. I hope it's everything you hope it be and more. Truly a great hobby/sport. Enjoy and thanks for commenting!
+William Reape Your very welcome Will, thanks for the kind words. I like the tips and advice as well! Hope you enjoy your time on the river sooner than later! Glad you're watching.
+Reflex Gaming Channel Thanks Reflex. Glad to hear that! Hope you get to enjoy some trips sometime soon. Hope I can keep some good videos coming your way.
We take this trip a lot and lots of others around the same area. Try beetle spins, Rebel Craw and shad raps. Rebel craws are hard to beat! We are very interested in going farther south. Elba is about as far south as we have been yet.
Thanks for the tips Jamie! I'll see if I can get ahold of the rebel craw. You need to head down the the springs in the panhandle, pretty good stuff down there. Merritt's Mill Pond in Mariana is a great first trip and not to far.
I'm just staring to use a kayak and I live on the pea river about 15 miles north of 231. Great video. Thanks for the info. Definetly will be making these trips on the pea river.
+SailingandSuch It's just right now. Not too high or too low. Picking up two new Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game 2's next week. Picking up a used Hobie Quest 11 on Thursday. Soon as we get our new yaks we are gonna do some short trips. This fall my boys and I are gonna do the trips you did on the river. Did anybody give you any trouble about camping beside the river?
Wow, you guys are going to be set! Nope, never had an issue anywhere I have been. I don't imagine most would have a problem with m camping but no one has even known I was there.
Your pops seems like a good man. I'm sure he's proud of all your outdoor adventures and inspiring others to get out and have fun. One bit of constructive criticism: why didn't you poke the dead gator with something? I felt like that was a serious missed opportunity! LOL
+Max Martian Yea, that's what I thought when I realized what it was! It did spook me right when I saw it but I don't worry about them to much even when I saw the slide marks on the sandbar I was camped at the second night. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Heard about you from some guys at the fire college strangely enough lol so I had to check you out! I've been looking for a good channel like this for years! Keep doing what you're doing man! Oh yeah and you got a new subscriber! 👍🏻
+SailingandSuch I can't remember who exactly told me. But it was a great experience! Unfortunately I realized it wasn't for me... I now have a stronger respect for the fire service. It was tough. Lol
Great video! Well you got the skunk out of the boat and out of your videos, nice catch. FYI, check inside your shoes prior to putting them on. I camped in a desert during a 4 day trip we did in Mexico, in the morning several of us did find some scorpions or small spiders inside our shoes/boots. Keep it up!
+Jose M Thanks Jose, you my man. I sometimes do check my shoes but most of the time I don't. I just put them on fast in hopes to squish anything in there lol. Working on it, got some more videos to make, hopefully tomorrow.
Although, I was a little disappointed you didn't go through those rapids. That would of been some awesome footage, either a hero who owned it paddle a Cadillac-size boat or chunk it a be a fool. Either way it would been cool. LOL!
@@TripSmith You got it brother. Keep making these righteous videos. It seems you learn something on every trip. I remember your first videos. They were a riot!
+dismaldog Thank bud! Glad you are enjoying them lol I should have videos start coming back in late April/May. I've got 4 more weeks of school/training for work but as soon as that's done I'll be back at it. Next trip should be the last week in April.
Thanks Rob! I just watched some of it myself, that was a fun trip.... One of my trips when it starts to cool off with be back on the river. The dam that I portaged around was actually heavily damaged after some recent heavy rain and I'd like to paddle down and check it out. Should be exciting! No Octopus? Aw man.... lol Cya then!
Great video the rapids there seem awsome. Me and my friends love kayaking and have been on 3 overnight trips. When spring/summer comes we will start up again our goal is to do the 60 mile mad river.
+Ben Wilson Thanks Ben, I appreciate your comment man. The rapids are fun for sure, probably the best river rapid wise around this area. Yea, I love it to and the overnights are definitely where it's at I'd say. It's good to have goals, that's for sure. Tried a quick search and couldn't find the Mad River, hope you guys enjoy your trip!
+bp30656 I have thought about it, yes. I have owned some of them as well but for my intended use I find the sit inside better suited. One of my next videos (hopefully I'll film it this weekend) is on my opinion of sit on top vs sit inside. So be sure to check back next week for it. That would be really cool I agree. Its certainly on my list of trips to do. I know it would be an adventure for sure because there aren't many camp spots down closer to the bay and I could see myself having to string up the hammock in the trees or something.
+Michele-Mike Bradley Haha! Thanks so much. I grew up on a farm camping and hunting all the time which is why I enjoy to do what I am fortunately am able to do. (awkward sentence). I'll try to make the next one sooner rather than later. I don't have a date set yet but I usually do a trip once a month.
What made you decide to wear life vest in 6" of water but not in the ocean? LOL Your vest looks similar to one I just purchased .. haven't used it yet, but feels snug, comfy and designed not to "bunch" around neck .. how do you like yours, and what equipment is clipped on it?
Good question..... Well, I'm typically swimming in the ocean so if I go in then it's nothing special. Not everywhere was 6" and the water was moving. I have been in a few spots where if I went over the current combined with trees and rocks in the water could cause some issues. Imagine going down one of those small rapids, tipping over and hitting my head on a rock as I land in the pool at the bottom..... THose are my thoughts at least.
Trip...great video...always enjoy...a dead gator?! did you see any live? I'm sure they must have been somewhere. I'm in Ohio and I think Gators would freak me out. Also wanted to comment on the trolling...I didn't catch anything for a few hours...you have to paddle slow to fish and loose a lot of time... gave up, let a Pop R top water drag behind the kayak 10 feet and caught a nice bass...couldn't believe when I quit trying to catch one I caught one...being topwater it doesn't get hung up unless your around downed trees. See you next trip...Trip!
+J. Adam Witty Thanks Witty, much appreciated bud. Yea, it kind of spooked me as I was right up on it before I noticed it wasn't a log or a rock lol. I saw one alive (just it's tail sliding in the water as I rounded a bend) then on the sandbar the second night there were track and slide marks in the sand where one had been sunning. I don't worry about them to much..... Can't let them keep me inside. Oh cool! That would be fun to hook one while trolling I'll admit it. Tell you what, next trip I'll definitely be giving it a shot as I don't think that section of the river will be as riddled with trees... I'll have a few more videos popping up between now and my next trip (Sit-inside vs Sit-on-top kayaks and couple gear reviews) Maybe even the clothing theory one.... Thanks for sticking with me and watching!
+Ole Snipe Much thanks Snipe! Meeeeee to! Nothing like good 'ol Bama! I hope to do a few different rivers in the state this winter. Should be a good experience.
Great vids. Ive been down the Choctawhatchee a few times in a buddies canoe. Got a Feel free Lure 10 a few months ago, only been out once in a private lake. Planning on taking it to Omussee Creek Wednesday. Ever been on that one?
Thanks BEAST! I haven't been on the creek, but I've put in at the landing there on the river many many times going to Smith's Bend... I'd like to give it a try one day though, let me know how it goes.
It's more of a hangout/party place for boaters than a yakkers hangout. Still a nice place. I'd suggest doing the Pea River canoe livery and taking your kayak down it, you'd love it.
Great Dad! Thank you for these video's. Just a heads up, check your shoes before putting them on, nothing like a spider/scorpion/tick bite on the toes to ruin a trip, and/or snake in the kayak.
+Jack Liszewski No, it's probably private land..... I know some of the people who owned the land I was paddling through but certainly not all of it. I don't worry to much, I just don't camp near homes/used property and always take all trash with me and try to leave little trace of me being there.
I am watching this in pieces as I'm at work so maybe I missed it but can you tell me the route you took on this trip. Interested in trying it as soon as it warms up a bit. Thanks in advance.
Charles O -this is a huge trip! We start at the same spot he put in and come out on bridges alone the way. Sometimes we put in on this route as well. Never been this far and haven't spent the night YET! We love this water tho! It's not for the weak! Just last year some newbi yakers got more than they bargained for. They saw a few too many snakes and called for a heli to fly them out! Lol! They left their boats too! I know a guy who found one!
It just clicked that you said your from Dothan in another video and I was wondering if you have ever kayaked from the 84 bridges below the Boy Scout place just past the rtj course I can't tell much from the air and I have caught some decent bass there in the past killing time when ditching school and wanted to explore alittle more
+dixie carp catchers Dothan, yep home town. I haven't done the Little Choc. yet. But I plan on doing it maybe this summer as a day trip. I've heard it's a good paddle though. Lots of people do it.
Question for you: I thoroughly enjoy all your videos, and I've learned so much. I'm trying to decide on wither to buy a URU bay (12 foot) or coast (16 ft). I'm opting toward the larger boat because I love camping gadgets and tend to bring a lot. Also, I may try floating in the San Juan Islands, although I primarily do rivers. Do you find that hour touring size boats are a hamper for floating rivers with whitewater or obstables requiring maneuverability? I'd love to have your thoughts.
Are you talking about the ORU boats? I haven't tried one and don't know much about them. I'd be hesitant with them in whitewater though... I don't really like the thought of having to have float bags in the hull either personally... But if you wanted to go with them I'd say the coast then.
+Howard Elzey Oh boy, when I read this comment I was literally laughing out loud! That's a pretty good one, I hope people vote it up lol. I'm going to thumbs up it. Thanks for watching, commenting and Liking the Facebook page man, enjoyed that one!
Yes it did. I think my hooks might be a little to large but it works great. I bought the zing-it line for this purpose and man that stuff is strong. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to make one. Last summer every time I went yakpacking my kayak turned into a mess with stuff all over it. Now I'm looking forward to just hanging my stuff up so I wont be knocking everything to the ground every time I bump the boat. It's interesting to watch your adventures on moving rivers which is a lot different then where I am at. I live on the land mass between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean so every thing here is salt water and tidal. But there are huge areas of shore line where nobody lives so you can paddle all day and never see a house or road. I am amazed to see all the trees which are lying in the rivers you paddle.
Good deal! Yea I saw you're yakpacking video ;). I had the exact same issue and knew I had to figure something out... lol It's a pretty neat place to paddle. But I certainly enjoy seeing different things and not just trees in the river all day. There are quite a lot I know... One of my next trips will be an interesting place, a swamp basically. Should make a great video!
Hey Trip! Love the video! You should make an Instagram for all your adventures of like pictures of fish you caught and your camp and all that good stuff. Also you should try trolling while your kayaking but it might be hard on the river but would probably work on a lake or ocean. One question, do you ever get worried about your kayak getting dents Or scratched when you run aground or when your taking it through the woods? Thanks a lot trip! Excited for more videos. Thank you! Henry Schneider
+Henry Schneider Hey Henry! Instagram made! Check out SailingandSuch on there ;). Thanks for the suggestion. Trolling is a good idea, I'll have to give that a try. No, I don't really worry to much. Didn't pay much for the yaks, got them for a good deal on Craigslist and they are still looking and performing pretty good. Since what I've done so far isn't hurting them badly I don't see me changing to much any time soon. They are the plastic yaks not the fiberglass so they are tougher.
good idea on you gear line, but i would get rid of the hooks and use small carabiners or your S hooks. Get about 7" of pvc that they will fit into. Then you can cap the ends and either fit the line inside also or wrap it around the outside. Those hooks are an accident waiting to happen, and the tangle a lot.
Thanks Mike! Here is what I've came up with recently, there is a photo on the Facebook page. m.facebook.com/SailingAndSuch?refsrc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FSailingAndSuch
+Mike Carrington Yea, good suggestion on the hooks being dangerous. Sometime's I get aggravated with getting things are carabines and they tend to grab your stuff sometimes when you take things off of them. Would be a simple to attach whatever floats your boat.
Hey Trip! Henry here. I'm going up to lake george this weekend and planning to do some kayaking and fishing on a smaller lake and do some day trips. Really excited! What kind of gear do you where while your kayaking to stay dry and warm? Thanks a lot! Henry Schneider
+Henry Schneider Sounds like a good weekend coming up Henry! As for colthing, my first rule is no cotton whatsoever. If that stuff gets wet it's thermal properties go out the window and it takes forever to dry. No good. If it's going to be really cold I'll layer up with a thin base layer or a polyester type long johns. Then on top of that I'll have a pair of synthetic pants and maybe a long sleeve fleece or just a looser fitting long sleeve shirt. Depending on the wind and temperature over that I may either wear my rain jacket or a warm fleece like vest. For the coldest time I'd have the long johns, pants, long sleeve shirt, long sleeve fleece and then the jacket or vest and jacket. I haven't needed gloves as my hands have stayed pretty warm paddling but I brought along some nice fleece fingerless gloves with the mitten piece that you can put in place if needed. A nice synthetic taboggin on your head and your good to go. Maybe a neck gaiter if it's really cold. Staying dry is pretty important in the cold which is a big reason I'm for a sit inside kayak. Sit on tops are hard to stay dry in. Good luck and have a blast my friend!
Another great video! Good lord man I bet you don't work out this hard at the gym .We just did a 3 day trip on the Shanadoah river VA we went thru the same dragging boats for 2 of the days ....question I have been looking at Hammock tents for a while how do you think they work for a side sleeper ?
Thanks John! Sounds like I need to film a little gym workout video, you might be surprised ;) At least you were out there. Dragging for 2 days is better than sitting at the office for 2 days lol Not sure what you mean exactly by hammock tents... But hammocks you can sleep on your side. I'm a side and back sleeper and have done both in the hammock. Hammocking can be a bit of a learning curve to get comfy but once you do, you will never look back!
How's the weather down where you are in the winter? Is it good paddling weather? Up here in NY isn't the best place to be outside in the winter lol -Jon
+incfilming Umm, it's not horrible but I'm not a huge fan of the cold. We don't get snow but maybe once every 5 years and even then it's a joke most of the time. Good paddling weather though yes. I remember Christmas a couple years ago I was wear shorts and it was like 70 outside lol. I should be paddling all winter once a month so you'll see what it's like. Thanks for asking and watching Jon.
+SailingandSuch thanks for responding so quick, Trip. Truly an inspiration for people to get out and just have fun. Coming from a 17 year old may seem different but watching your videos are tons of fun! Excited to see what you post on your new Instagram lol
You betcha man! That's what I want to be, I want to get folks out enjoying. Age doesn't mean a thing, I remember being 17 11 years ago. Glad you enjoy the videos. Instagram? I'm still learning it but I have fun with my UA-cam stuff and I have an interesting job that should create some good Instagram opportunities. Hopefully folks will enjoy that stuff too.
Missed your comment way back when. Sorry! I mount it using some Yak Attack mounts. Just a basic Mighty Mount and then a dogbone/panfish type setup on there. You can find those products on their website. For a camera I use the Olympus TG860
Awesome video Trip. Love the adventures. I been doing some day trips locally. I've been wanting to do some extended trips. How do you plan where your going to camp? Do you just hope for a good spot? I worry about being caught on the bank of private property. Any advice?
+Joe McCranie Thanks Joe, glad you are enjoying them man. That's great you've been able to get out there, love hearing that. I dont, I just go with the flow and spot one whenever I can. I have learned where sandbars are depending on the shape and flow of the river so I can narrow down where a decent sand bar might be that could be good for camping. Google Earth/Maps can help you here. So I guess I have a general area in mind, but mostly I hope to make a certain distance in a given day and say "I'll camp in this area" and hopefully there will be something decent there. Well, in my area people are generally kind and I don't think they would mind if they were to find me, a lone kayaker quietly camping on the river bank. I stay away from any areas where a house may be or if it looks like someone's "hangout". Haven't had anyone even see me yet from the bank, just people passing by. And really I haven t never seen anyone else while I was camped on the river bank. I say go for it, just be sure it's not military land.
Thanks Trip. I sure appreciate the reply and advise. I been mapping out trips, but was not sure about the camping. I'll go for it and see what the adventure brings. Keep that yak wet. look forward to your vids. Oh, and lovin the gear locker man. Have to make one of those soon.
Hey man, you betcha. What good would comments and questions do without replies??? Go for it! That's what I say every time man lol I'll do my best to get out there as much as I can. That gear locker rocks! I love it to, and you will.
+Brian West Aw man, those are great places, TN and NC. Lake Havasu is out there isn't it? Maybe you can come up with something to get out there and enjoy. I guess it doesn't have to be yaking, could be backpacking?
noticed from some of your videos that you have wanted to eat some fish for dinner. If you wanted to you could take a small cast net with you to catch bait fish from the river you are in. Then you can bait them and cast them out. Usually that gives you a much better chance of catching something.
to add to that, I plan on doing something similar to what you are doing with the 3 day trips on the river. Mainly for the fishing aspect for me. It's been fun watching your videos. keep up the good work.
I'm pretty sure cast netting in fresh water in my area is illegal. I've tried my cast net in the saltwater with a little luck.... Still need to get better. Hope you are able to get out there and enjoy some fishing/yakking/camping soon!
+Jim Skaggs Not really, no I don't Jim. I just go with the flow and spot one whenever I can. I have learned where sandbars are depending on the shape and flow of the river so I can narrow down where a decent sand bar might be that could be good for camping. So I guess I have a general area in mind, but mostly I hope to make a certain distance in a given day and say "I'll camp in this area" and hopefully there will be something decent there.
Great videos man; Bear Grylls style but not too outrageous that they seem fake. I will say I prefer this and Choctawhatchee over the other camps though. I like the 100% wilderness style, kind of breaks the immersion when you see cities and stuff in the background on the other trips. Keep it up!
+WOLFBOY Thanks Wolf! You know, I like your thinking. The cities and stuff in the background do kind of put the "wildernessness" off.... Well, good thing about the winter months is I won't be down at the beach around all stuff and mainly on rivers so you should be good for the next several videos ;) Thanks for the great comment.
Sure have! Several times.... I tried to get as close to it as I could to get it on camera ;) Check out my Peace River trip, got a good bit of them on camera pretty close to the paddle board on that trip.
+Lance Baker Thanks Lance! No, no permission generally. Actually I have never seen another soul while camped on a riverbank yet.... Besides if I do I don't think they will mind a polite and clean camper for the night. Most folks down in y area are pretty laid back about it. Glad you're still watching Lance.
You did have an older white kayak that was absolutely gorgeous can you please tell me what type it was it was so sleek I absolutely loved it please let me know
Another great video mate, next time I wanna see you jump those Rapids. That's the longest video I've ever watched on UA-cam, what do you use to charge you camera and phone?
+keith elliott Thanks Keith! Looking back I should have done it.... I didn't mean for it to be that long but I just didn't want to delete any more out of the video. I charge it using a Rav Power external power pack.www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MQSMEEE/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00MQSMEEE&linkCode=as2&tag=sailandsuch-20&linkId=VTFGFE2Q7B57JGDB
Thanks Jack! I've got to figure out a good way to get my videos in front of more people. It's tough.... But I believe if more people watched them (even if they weren't into kayak camping) they would still enjoy them.
I would bet anyone, anytime, whatever, that I could eat all the fish I wanted for dinner on a flow like that. The issue is to allot enough time. I would never consider doing more than 7 or 8 miles in a day if I wanted to catch and eat fish. You have to figure enough daylight in the evening to cook and set up camp also. By the way, your first bass was a keeper. Fish don't grow very large in smaller water. Cooked over an open fire that Bass would have been much better than canned seafood. Great video man. Keep that kayak wet.
+Solo Roamin' I agree, you have to have the time to fish... If the water level would have been higher I believe I would have had plenty of time to fish as I had planned. Was it? For some reason I thought they had to be at least 12". I just looked and didn't see a size regulation for bass so I'm not sure. Guess I'll call my game warden buddy and ask him. Thanks for watching Solo, should be getting back out there soon.
Had a friend drop me off 8 miles up this river nobody ever canoes or kayaks, luckily had my canoe not the kayak cause I lost count after getting out 60 times to walk! That was after the first 2 miles 😳 ended up walking 4 miles in some nasty stuff but the scenery was nice!
Great kayaking and canoeing here in Michigan water is clean and no snakes or wildlife to really worry about lots of public forest and rivers, I was just in the wrong river but it was local for me. Enjoy your adventures!
It got caught on a tree limb somehow and bent just a little bit, but was easy to bend right back. Also, the rubber piece that it rested on broke and needed gluing back together. Nothing serious. But that is another reason that has me wanting to go to a yak with a drop down skeg vs a rudder....
+Clinch Leatherwood101 Clinch, I'm actually thinking of doing a trip and inviting anyone who wants to come! Not really sure where to do it as depending on how many people would be going it may be tough to find a spot for everyone to camp. It would probably have to be at some sort of park or something. I have a spot or two in mind that should work. What do you think?
In my neck of the woods there is really only one option, the Yalobusha river. Its around a 52 mile trek. You can check it out at lowerdelta.org/paddling. We have other creeks and such that are great when the water is up.
+Frank LoGrande Actually no Frank. I didn't get the first bite on this trip I don't think. Typically I don't get bitten to bad. Only once this past summer in Panama City did I have issues but it wasn't to bad. Next spring I'll do a video on how to keep the bugs off. Here is a hint - Google "permethrin"
+vinod badiani Because your videos are entertaining and people who are directly interested in what you are producing will subscribe. It takes a while to get things rolling on UA-cam.
I typically don't carry those luxuries with me but it does sound pretty good! Really good actually.... May have to try it!
I was laughing so much when you kept having to drag yourself to move your kayak back into the water. Great video!
Thanks Nasa! Yea, it was certainly an adventure that day. Glad you enjoyed it!
Enjoyed the Pea River video! I grew up floating that River. You brought back a lot of good memories. Best wishes!
+MayberryFan 1967 Awesome Mayberry! glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome adventure Trip !!! It's 3:20am I'm enjoying watching your videos !!! Enjoy your weekend and have a Blessed Memorial Day !!! Danny
Ha! Glad you are enjoying them Danny. You have a good one as well!
Haha there ya go! Hope yall are able to make the trip happen.
Im glad to see these Pea River trips. I live 5 minutes from the river on hwy 52 between Kinston and Samson. Keep up the awesome work bud.
Oh cool! Will do!
Good yak! Sounds great man!
you inspire me to want to go out and kayak and camping more often especially in locations that aren't like campgrounds
Oh wow, hop you have a speed recovery and are able to get back out on the water soon. Glad you enjoy the videos! Thanks for watching!
Wow lol Sure does sound like an adventure! I've come across those massive log jambs before..... Tough stuff and certainly slows you down.
it must b winter ,cause alli have is trips pea river reruns 2 watch, thank the lord 4 those
Yep.... it is winter. But tonight at 8 Central we will be releasing and watching the latest adventure! Stay tuned to your phone after 7 Central
Hey Trip, I so very much appreciate your time making these videos. I watch you quite a bit. Wish I could paddle w u some day
but I'm in Oregon. kinda far.
I love your passion.
I screwed up last week and wound up finally getting off the the river way after dark on a stretch I didn't know. Pushed thru a couple rapids trying to beat the sunset and got wet a couple times.
Finally saw a couple kayaks on the bank about 9:30 pm
so I pulled in there just above another substantial sounding rapid.
Smiles
Glad you enjoy the videos! Yes, that's a pretty good ways away.... Oh wow, glad you found that stopping point! Sounds like an adventure!
That's awesome! Reminds me of the log jamb across the entire river on my Choctawatchee trip. Always some excitement in nature huh?
lol yes sir!
Lol 😂 I love you man. You’re so goofy and awesome at the same time 👍❤️
When I first saw one of your vids come up in youtube I thought "Who the heck would watch an hour long video on some guy camping?" I began watching and couldn't stop!
Thanks Moretti! So glad you enjoy watching. Hope you have ablast!
Yea, sometimes I have one on the yak, sometimes I dont lol Good tip though!
Enjoyed the video! Keep them coming! Disappointed you portaged around the rapid! Haha
I wanted a kayak since I was 15. I just bought one...finally. Subscribed!
+jerami101 Sweet Jerami! Congrats on your first kayak. I hope it's everything you hope it be and more. Truly a great hobby/sport. Enjoy and thanks for commenting!
Thanks for another great video. I like the tips and advice for the short trips. I am planning paddling on rivers next year. Thanks again
+William Reape Your very welcome Will, thanks for the kind words. I like the tips and advice as well! Hope you enjoy your time on the river sooner than later! Glad you're watching.
Where you let in at is in ariton I grow up in that river that rock pool at the start has been there since I was a kid
+Steven Cox Oh cool man. Wow, I never would have thought that thing would last many floods. Thanks for commenting!
This was another great video. I can't wait to get my sailboat back in the water and go on an adventure.
+Down In The Islands Thanks a lot! Hope you get it back in the water sooner than later! I appreciate the comment.
Great Video, I kayak and camp a little but i hope to do this kind of stuff a lot more after watching some of your vids. Love you channel man!
+Earl Dykes Jr Oh cool man! How is the river up that way? Hope you get to enjoy the trip sooner than later. Have fun!
LOL
Oh he is! Ha! Poke the gator? I donno, I guess I was just shocked at the time....
Ill never give all my secrets away but amazingly enough Florida is home to approx 50 whitewater streams and rivers!
You saw a dead alligator? Wow. That would have freaked me out a little! Another great video!
+logan brehm Awesome Logan! Who told you about it up there? Glad you found me bud, happy to have a new subscriber. You having fun up there?
+SailingandSuch I can't remember who exactly told me. But it was a great experience! Unfortunately I realized it wasn't for me... I now have a stronger respect for the fire service. It was tough. Lol
Gotcha, yea it was the best time of my life. It's not for everyone, glad you got to experience a little of it.
+SailingandSuch btw thanks to finding your channel I'm going on my first kayak overnight trip in 3 weeks! Wish me luck! Haha
Oh awesome man! Glad to hear that, that's what it's all about. Just remember, if you're not having fun, you're not doing it right!
Stay thirsty my friend!
Always craving some more water! Either in my belly or on my paddle.
Although, I was a little disappointed you didn't go through those rapids. That would of been some awesome footage, either a hero who owned it paddle a Cadillac-size boat or chunk it a be a fool. Either way it would been cool. LOL!
Looking back, I'm disappointed in myself honestly... Would have been cool for sure!
Sometimes in the shallows, you are better off getting out of your boat and walking it with two leashes (bow and stearn)
Very true Mike! Thanks for the tip!
@@TripSmith You got it brother. Keep making these righteous videos. It seems you learn something on every trip. I remember your first videos. They were a riot!
mini bagels with PB is even better...they don't dry easy...really good....nice video...
+Bhamlunker That sounds pretty good..... I might have to give that a try!
great vid,i am running out of your back catalog of adventures to watch.Looking forward to new ones Trip.
+dismaldog Thank bud! Glad you are enjoying them lol I should have videos start coming back in late April/May. I've got 4 more weeks of school/training for work but as soon as that's done I'll be back at it. Next trip should be the last week in April.
I was totally entertained with this video. Laughed several times. See you in April bro. No octopus on that trip please lol
Great Video, you had me laughing with the, got me a good old limb brim...!! keep up the good work!
+Chad Jheng Peterson Hey Chad, I appreciate that man. Glad you enjoyed it. I'll do my best man!
I would like to know what do you like better the white kayak that you had or the yellow one that you're running now I really did love the white kayak
The "white" one/ Technically it's light grey. The seat on it was more comfy for me but I liked the hatches and setup on the yellow better.
Thanks yea it should be fun its the Mad River In dayton if you wanna check it out
Have you ever thought of getting a sit on top kayak? It would be cool if you floated from hwy 2 down to the bay.
Good grief, that waas some adventure ... you're rugged, dude ... can't wait for the next one, so don't make it too far off ..
LOL
Your vest looks similar to one I just purchased .. haven't used it yet, but feels snug, comfy and designed not to "bunch" around neck .. how do you like yours, and what equipment is clipped on it?
Thanks for sticking with me and watching!
cool! i'm enjoying the adventures , thanks for the inspiration!
+Ger Rincon You very welcome Ger! Glad you enjoy them and thanks for taking the time to watch.
Amazing video trip! I always love when you go camping on a river in the best state in America. ;)
+Ole Snipe Much thanks Snipe! Meeeeee to! Nothing like good 'ol Bama! I hope to do a few different rivers in the state this winter. Should be a good experience.
+SailingandSuch Ready to see em'!
Me too!
Ill have to check out Smiths bend. Ive only had a yak for about 2 months so im looking for places to go.
That would be o fun to have a biting something in your shoe!!!!
Awesome video as always. Wish I was kayaking!
+Jack Liszewski Thanks Jack! Wish you were to. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
+SailingandSuch when you set up camp, is it state land?
+Jack Liszewski No, it's probably private land..... I know some of the people who owned the land I was paddling through but certainly not all of it. I don't worry to much, I just don't camp near homes/used property and always take all trash with me and try to leave little trace of me being there.
+SailingandSuch Oh, alright. Thanks for the info
+Jack Liszewski Yes sir! You betcha!
I am watching this in pieces as I'm at work so maybe I missed it but can you tell me the route you took on this trip. Interested in trying it as soon as it warms up a bit. Thanks in advance.
Hey Charles! This one is from Hwy 231 north of Ozark, Alabama to Hwy 134 in Alberton, Alabama. Give it a shot! It's a great trip. Youre very welcome.
Whitewater creek at Lowery Mill is a fun trip! Don't be in a hurry. It is very crooked and will take a good bit longer than expected!
But if you wanted to go with them I'd say the coast then.
another good thing might be a fly rod to keep with ya.small to store bout 3 foot total when taken down if your able to strap it down.
+joseph duggan A fly rod? Never tried fly fishing.... I may have to look into that, thanks for the suggestion Joseph.
+SailingandSuch Fly fishing looks hard but it is not all that hard
Gotcha. I may have to look into it. Thanks!
no worry and have a good Christmas and new year dude.
You too my man!
good stuff Trip. I will have to say that at least you had some good weather to do your butt scootin boogie out there in your kayak.Good times!
+Kirt Ottosen Haha! I appreciate that Kirt. Oh yea, couldn't have asked for much better weather really. Thanks for the comment.
I think it's funny, he's wearing a PFD while spending all day in 6 inches of water. LOL, I love the videos keep them coming.
+Howard Elzey Oh boy, when I read this comment I was literally laughing out loud! That's a pretty good one, I hope people vote it up lol. I'm going to thumbs up it. Thanks for watching, commenting and Liking the Facebook page man, enjoyed that one!
I put my camp hanger together the other day so at least you know some one else out there will be using your system. HaHa.
Awesome Howard! Glad to hear that. I've got one other person who is about to make one for themselves as well. Did it turn out as hoped?
I had the exact same issue and knew I had to figure something out... lol
It's a pretty neat place to paddle.
+SailingandSuch awesome I'll check out the instagram! And it's so cool how you answer everyone's questions and take the time. Thanks a lot man!
Glad you think so! I enjoy talking with everyone.
+SailingandSuch just found the instagram and followed love the picture haha

good idea on you gear line, but i would get rid of the hooks and use small carabiners or your S hooks.
+SailingandSuch just about what i was thinking of, i'm just not a fan of pointy hooks, i would still trade them out.
+Mike Carrington Yea, good suggestion on the hooks being dangerous. Sometime's I get aggravated with getting things are carabines and they tend to grab your stuff sometimes when you take things off of them. Would be a simple to attach whatever floats your boat.
Lol dude you’re a fool I love you brotha ! 🫡
Hey Trip!
I really love that white kayak it is so skinny I think the world of it
Can you tell me what brand it is
That one is a Sea Lion, Shadow I think... It's been years and I sold it a while back.,
Another great video!
Hopefully folks will enjoy that stuff too.
will you ever consider starting at smuteye and going to th gulf wont to do it on day
Ummmm, I'm sure its a great trip but I don't see myself doing it. Hope you have a blast though!
Equipment question.......how do you mount your camera to your kayak and what camera do you use?
Missed your comment way back when. Sorry! I mount it using some Yak Attack mounts. Just a basic Mighty Mount and then a dogbone/panfish type setup on there. You can find those products on their website. For a camera I use the Olympus TG860
There might be coral snakes and eastern diamond back!
Maybe....
And really I haven
t never seen anyone else while I was camped on the river bank.
I love it to, and you will.
cool dad !
+Hillrod rc films Lol, Thanks!
Man I wish I had got into Kayaing when I still lived in TN and NC. Yakpaking out here in Phoenix AZ is not as easy.
+Brian West Aw man, those are great places, TN and NC. Lake Havasu is out there isn't it? Maybe you can come up with something to get out there and enjoy. I guess it doesn't have to be yaking, could be backpacking?
Been watching your vids ever been down black creek free port fl?
noticed from some of your videos that you have wanted to eat some fish for dinner.
Yeah i didn't realize you were using a cast net until I saw another video of yours. thanks for the reply. have a good rest of the week
No problem. You have a good one to!
I was wondering, do you try to pick out camp sites before you go?
"If ya need me call me." It's a southern thing.
There ya go.
Have you ever paddled up on a live gator and if you did, what did you do ?
Sure have! Several times.... I tried to get as close to it as I could to get it on camera ;) Check out my Peace River trip, got a good bit of them on camera pretty close to the paddle board on that trip.
You should paddle the Okeefenokee swamp for gators. In January though. 😎
Another awesome Video. Do you get permission to camp on the places you go? Or is it just a hope i don't get caught deal? haha
What kayak are you using I absolutely love it
You did have an older white kayak that was absolutely gorgeous can you please tell me what type it was it was so sleek I absolutely loved it please let me know
Yellow is perception sea lion I think. GRey one is a Wilderness Systems Sealution II, olddddd one.
those tiny army can openers work well,
Someone actually sent me one of those little jokers! Thanks for the comment!
+SailingandSuch it was a long vid but I enjoyed it all, keep them comin
Good deal, will do.
you deserve alot more subs than you have
Thanks Jack!
What kind of kayak is that?
+Michele Snow That one is a Perception Sea Lion Shadow. Good kayak, but I can't get comfortable in the seat for some reason personally.....
Sea kayak / touring kayaks they go from $800 up
Yep!
Wow lol I'd like to see what the upper part is like one day.... Sounds like an adventure!
Great kayaking and canoeing here in Michigan water is clean and no snakes or wildlife to really worry about lots of public forest and rivers, I was just in the wrong river but it was local for me. Enjoy your adventures!
what type of damage did your rudder receive?
It got caught on a tree limb somehow and bent just a little bit, but was easy to bend right back. Also, the rubber piece that it rested on broke and needed gluing back together. Nothing serious. But that is another reason that has me wanting to go to a yak with a drop down skeg vs a rudder....
Awesome.
+Jake Daniele Aw man thanks Jake!
You make the best vid
Thanks Logan, I really appreciate that bud!
how many times have you run in too Bigfoot during these adventures? 😁
+mike conley Ha! Haven't had the pleasure yet. If I do, I hope to get it on film! Wait a minute.... there is no such thing.... Right?
I think u should try pork brains in milk gravy, check out shugs vid,it looks like a good punishment meal
Lol, wonder where I can find that? Sounds like fun!
you should have used your punishment meal for bait.
+Adventures with Jerry Brilliant! lol
i love ur videos and i will love to be like u so i will keep it up thx. big fan already sunscribed to ur chanell and liked :)
+vinod badiani Fabulous. Thanks man.
How about inviting a Mississippi boy this spring?
+Clinch Leatherwood101 Clinch, I'm actually thinking of doing a trip and inviting anyone who wants to come! Not really sure where to do it as depending on how many people would be going it may be tough to find a spot for everyone to camp. It would probably have to be at some sort of park or something. I have a spot or two in mind that should work.
What do you think?
In my neck of the woods there is really only one option, the Yalobusha river. Its around a 52 mile trek. You can check it out at lowerdelta.org/paddling. We have other creeks and such that are great when the water is up.
I'll check it out! Thanks for the suggestion man.
Man I've been watching your videos a few hours now hoping you can catch a fish on a rod!
Alright, finally!
Thanks! Yea, I finally catch one..... Not much for fishing.... lol
he reminds me of a more awesome version of andy from the office
Haha! That's funny!
I love that😂
You must come home after a trip like that with a ton of bug bites?
+Frank LoGrande Actually no Frank. I didn't get the first bite on this trip I don't think. Typically I don't get bitten to bad. Only once this past summer in Panama City did I have issues but it wasn't to bad. Next spring I'll do a video on how to keep the bugs off. Here is a hint - Google "permethrin"
Whats your pariscope?
+Jacob Medler Twitter Periscope (SailingandSuch) Thanks for asking, I guess I should have mention that huh? lol
+SailingandSuch ok thanks i just followed you, btw loved the video
Sweet man! Glad you liked it, I was hoping people wouldn't think it was to long... Thanks for watching bud.
Ya i didn't mind it being to long
Good deal.
49:52 *your
lol thanks!
First .. Good vid
+Forealist Congrats! lol. Thanks for watching!
hey check this guy out ,quality fun
Great fun!!!
why did u say my chanell is a bit good:(?????
+vinod badiani Because your videos are entertaining and people who are directly interested in what you are producing will subscribe. It takes a while to get things rolling on UA-cam.
