Fall Overnight Hot Tent Camping Trip Turns Cold | Canoe Capsize!

  • Together with my brother Tomas, nephew Alvar, and my dear friend Volker, I went on a fall overnight camping trip with canoes for a night in our big hot tent. The plan was to have two nice days with fishing and enjoy each others company. We all had one canoe each so we could bring a lot of gear, and also Annie and Johnny were with us. Suddenly, Tomas flipped his canoe and ended up under the canoe and inhaled some water. This incident illustrates how easily things can go wrong. It serves as a reminder not to take shortcuts and to always wear a life jacket, bring dry clothes, and have a backup plan. /Matti

    Great vid. It can change in an instant. Be prepared. Those temps you only have a couple minutes before shock and disaster.. Winter,, Burrr!. NO BUGS. No snakes. Fall here, colors just starting. Love seeing Johnny and Annie. Need to mate up with my Mini. Nephew Alvar is getting big. My grandson is 13 now and true outdoorsman. Hunt fish, adventure, wild camp. Learning to be a blacksmith. I had a fellow worker who was out fishing with his grown sons. He fell out of the boat and had a heart attack. They took turns holding him and paddling the boat five hours to get him ashore. It was too late he passed at 56. They couldn't get him into the boat as he was grown man. Sad. Always have a discussed plan among everyone. The one who knows the most such as you Matti could be the victim as much as the German guide. Sure he was experienced or he wouldn't have been there. To what level maybe that will be told. All good beautiful place. Glad you took out the sick fish and whacked it. Next time from east Kentucky USA.

      🤣
      Just kidding. My brother and I have done trips together and we very often don’t need to talk. We just know each other very well. That’s nice!
      Volker and Alvar is also great guys.
      :-)
      This will not keep Tomas away from outdoor life.

      @@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNAI'm glad you are all OK. It is scary though how fast things can go wrong. I often hike alone and quite enjoy it. But on my hike up to the Anaris cabin I felt a little bit vulnerable. It was late September and raining. Roots and stones were very slippery. The waterways were overflowing and the water fast flowing. If I were to have an accident it could have been days before anyone came my way and I only had my phone to rely on to call for help. We all know they don't work that well in the mountains. So brother or friend, there is strength in numbers. Sadly that didn't help the people that lost their lives skiing to the cabin all those years ago....

    good thing to do with the fish for sure, never know what problem it has.

    My uncle use to pack the drybags lose in the canoe with plenty of air in them, and would have a rope going through them with a meter or 2 extra tied to the boat. That way in a capsize the bags would float out of the way and we could flip the unloaded boat back up and over, from in the water, which emptied the canoe of water. Then you get back in the canoe, haul in the drybags and put them back in place

    • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
      @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA  12 днів тому +3

      Yes, that is exactly how you should do it. We use pack-barrels instead of drybags. This time, we lost a fishing rod but that you have loose or in your hand when fishing. /Stina

      @@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Thank you for your response. Yes, Matti and Stina, we think it would be very informative, since your viewer circle is expanding to different parts of the world, so someone is always hiking and most of us are planning for upcoming hikes which require time to get and test certain equipment, like very good hiking boots. We actually live in Florida, and one of us used to live in Sweden as a young kid growing up in Uppsala. That said we had planned on coming to Sweden this past August to hike parts of the Kungsleden. We had to cancel in the last minute due to a death in the family. It seems that there is a lot of push here in America, where so many people are hiking with ultralight shoes, even trekking on mountains through snow, and that is not for us. It was funny to watch your last canoe trip video which brought back very fond memories of our family going on canoe adventures in Minnesota several times in the "Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness", which is 1 million acres big and connects to another 1 million acres on the Canadian side. We, like you, did not skimp on equipment or food. Again, thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us viewers with your expertise and good humor, we love it.

    I've drown in the ocean when I was in the army and one thing I remind when breathing underwater is that it ended up in my stomach, three times on a row and I also vomited three times when "breathing out". I still don't understand how it's possible but it looks like the brain creates a short circuit to protect the lungs and use the stomach to fake them. Since I never vomit when drinking full bowl of salty water for purgation purpose I guess I didn't vomit because of the salt and that it also happens in clear water. If that's the case then there are very low chance to have water in the lungs as long as we didn't vomit, that could be a good indicator. Thanks for this thoughtful video

    • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
      @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA  12 днів тому +1

      I think that you are totally correct. Our bodies are made with lots of basic survival instincts and systems.
      I have think that water in the lungs is rare and if you get it most of the time your body also handles it well by itself. The problem is that IF it goes wrong and you get ill it goes fast and it’s really dangerous. That’s why you should be aware that it could be an issue…
      I will check with Volker because he have the right answer. Then I will try to remember to write it the real answer here. Not just what I ‘think’ is the right answer.
      🤣

    My friend and I were fishing in a canoe on a lake in Idaho, USA next to Canada. He was standing, lost his balance and fell into the lake. It was February and the temperature was 25 degrees F. I paddled us back to the car and it took another 20 minutes to drive home. He lived but the situation would have been better had we planned for such an event, brought towels and a change of clothing.

    En fundering Matti, såg ut som det är lite flygfoton med. Hur gör ni när ni ansöker om spridningstillstånd? Det är ju sjukt långa väntetider nu. Eller skiter folk i att söka eller hur gör alla youtubers? :)

    • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA

      Många struntar nog faktiskt i det pga långa tider. Vi filmar i områden vi känner till mycket väl och ser alltid till att de skyddsobjekt som finns i vårt område inte visas på film. Det många inte tänker på är att om man laddar upp sitt material till Dji platform (kina-ägt) med geo-taggar osv så kan informationen redan där hamna i fel händer. Och, som världsläget ser ut idag är det viktigt oavsett om materialet kommer från en vanlig kamera, telefon, drönate etc att det inte visar skyddsobjekt och försvarashemligheter. Hur tänker du? Alltid intressant med andras synpunkter. /Matti
