HOLY CRAP!!!! I've built Models since I was a kid (I'm 56 now). I've never come CLOSE to anything that good. 😲😎👌 Did just finish a SR-71 in Honor of my Dad, who FLEW it, proud of that one, but DAMN!! Your skills! I saw a couple of Spookys and other ACs flying through Kadena AFB when I was a boy. Awed by the POWER!! You've just inspired me to try to find an AC-130, in 1/48th Scale, and try my hand... BRAVO!!
I saw the blackbird take off once from Mildenhall.... IMHO the most amazing and strangely gorgeous aircraft ever. Your dad was a lucky man to fly one and you should be proud of the service he did the west during the cold war.
This is where 1/48 really shines....big enough for hobby motors in the nacelles, battery packs disquised as cargo inside, and a few L.E.D.'s to light up interior....that's impressive. I'm doing a C-130H this way now. A 1/48 C-119, B-47, and Transall 160 would be awesome for a kit maker to design. PLEASE make them!!!!!!
I have this kit that I bought when I was a paratrooper in Alaska in 1988. Never built it due to moving 7 times in 20 years. I think you may have motivated me
I built it as a kid around the same time the paratrooper got his. Mine burned up in a fire. 3 years ago I found another. I think you inspired me as well.

Right on, Fire Fox! Those 24 cockpit windows are the 'light and soul' of the aircraft. I particularly liked the detail of the weapons control panel on the left of the Skipper's seat. Peri's done an outstanding job. Cheers, BH
Awesome build. I hope one day to have the skills to take on something like that. Personally I think it would be incredible to see a super detailed one with full crew diorama.
The C-47 Spooky, this AC-130 & the Stinger C-119 are all available in 1/72 scale for any who would like to do all 3 aircraft used in Viet Nam. Nice job on this big bruiser. These big kits are almost too big for the air brushes. One would almost need a door jam sprayer for clears & sealers. A good example of making your spent money count. Nice kit build.
Cool! I remember building one of these, not the gunship but a regular C130, back in the mid '80s. Can't remember who made it. As an active duty Marine of course I painted in USMC camo with USMC markings. I even had a 1/48 HUMVEE inside.
Fun fact, the red call letters FT on the tail, are for Pope AFB in Fayetville NC. Pope AFB is the home of the 23rd Fighter Wing. The 23rd Fighter Wing is what the original FlyingTigers of World War 2 fame evolved into, hence the FT call letters are for the Flying Tigers.
Yup classic big kit from the testor's mold reboxed by Italeri. even by today's standard's still a good kit. as far as i know no other company has done a C-130 in 1/48 scale. Great job on the build.
I have this model, its a monster kit. There's a ton of detail that can be done. I had a hell of a time with the wings and tail getting the dihedral just right. I just didn't check if there were any resin parts for it. You did an outstanding job, it makes me regret not doing the panel lines.
I built the Testors badged 1/72 version of this kit (that had the same color scheme if I'm not mistaken) some time in the early 1990s and that was an impressive kit. Looking forward to seeing how the bigger one measures up.
Kit should be updated by Italeri. 4 blade props, 105 Howitzer and more modern cameras and believe more mini-guns. Great job. Just way to much work of fabbing to update myself.

About 35 years or so ago I built a 1/48 scale C-130 transport, I forget who put it out, that I kept in my office. One of the officers in the unit was a co-pilot on a Marine Corps C-130 and he thought it looked just like the one he flew.
Wish the cockpit and the innards to the plane had more detail, cause that center console is a loooot bigger than the model portrays it to be, the seating arrangement seems fine, though i`m curious where the Loading bay and the Firing operation station is, it`d be an added detail that i wouldve loved to see in such a big kit, dope build looks awesome.
The thing that cracks me up about the AC-130A is that the wing tanks cause just enough drag to increase the amount of fuel needed on a maximum length flight by the contents of the tanks.
Damn! It's so BIG! And it's so beautiful! Excellent job indeed. 1/48-25mm is about my favorite scale range. And I love interior details. This baby has both. While watching, there were a few times I questioned some decisions you'd made. At different points I thought 'too much black.' or 'camo colors don't look quite right.' and especially 'he's really gonna re-scribe that whole thing?!'. Then you did the filtering, washes and highlights and I had to STFU. In fact there's only 2 things I might have added in, and that's by no means a criticism. Just some ideas I had while watching. So, how do you think some photo etch would do and what about some interior lighting and crew? Just as it, it's absolutely awesome and inspiring. Thanks for showing us Peri.
Thank you for your kind words This model was a commission and I worked with what the client supplied. We didn't really want to invest in extra PE as you cannot see much from the windows 😏

You show the wing pylons correctly on the box outboard of #1 & #4 which would have held the 450 gal tanks. The tanks were normally not on the aircraft during combat and had the electronic jammer and chaff pods instead. 450 gallon tanks were installed for ferry flights.
