Sorry I'm just answering now! But love your comment as always Deea! I totally agree, I feel the commentary was so modern too even though it didn't feel out of place in the historic fiction setting!
I have really enjoyed watching all of these Booker reaction videos all across BookTube. Thank you for jumping in! I'm starting with "James"and "The Safekeep" and see what comes after that.
lovely reaction camila! i've read 6 of these so far - james and the safekeep are by far my favourites, and i was a bit let down by my friends and this strange eventful history. held and orbital were pretty good! i'm intrigued by headshot, enlightenment, and wandering stars, but i hope to get round to all thirteen of them sooner or later. can't wait to see what you think of the ones on your tbr if you do end up reading them!
Your comment is so interesting after seeing the shortlist, because you seem to be in sync with the judges choices haha! I've finally picked up The Safekeep from the library so need to get reading!
It's funny because when books we expect aren't on the list we're all shocked but when they are, we're like 'where are all the books I've never heard of?' hahah I love it!
@@hasteyebooks I’m sorry to say that I didn’t like it. I ended up reading James, Held, Enlightenment, Wild Houses, Wandering Stars, Orbital, and The Safekeep. Of those my top three would be: 1. James 2. The Safekeeping 3. Held
I really liked James!
It’s the bones of Huckleberry but so fresh and funny and poignant. Completely unexpected take on slavery and one that is needed!

Thanks so much! I love doing blind reactions to prizes, so fun to share in the experience with everyone :) How did you find James?

It’s quite a safe list but equally maybe that will give us a stronger reading experience. We shall seeeee!! Good to see your reaction Camila ❤

I am definitely going to try Headshot, Orbital, and maybe Enlightenment
What did you think of them? I loved Orbital!

@@BookishTexan Oh shame! But James is my top too! I just picked up The Safekeep from the library so have high hopes for it!
I'm hoping to read a few off the list... eventually. 😊💙
The 'eventually' here is so relatable! haha
Let me know if you read Wild houses
I didn't ended up reading it no!
