The meaning behind Thors death is actually a masterpiece. Askeladd didn't want to kill Thors, he HAD to because as a LEADER of Norse Pirates, he would have lost respect from all his crew members. It was revealed in the show later how most of them tried to go behind his back from finding one of his weaknesses as well. Thors realized it as well and he basically indirectly told Askeladd to raise Thorfinn. Askeladd throughout the show started to get more fond of him. But the reason he did everything was to kill the king to get revenge for his family. While doing so, he basically gave Thorfinn the biggest lesson which is that living by the sword will make you die by one. The psychology behind some scenes were immaculate and I happened to pick up on it quite well! It was an amazing show , one of the best to date.

And this revenge plot took only a little over a year, versus to Thorfinn's decade-long vendetta. Askellad kindly told Thorfinn that over-complicating your revenge is pointless.

Well the one issue I had with Thorfin was how he was a pacifist which I understand the no killing rule, perfectly understand that. That made sense but I did not understand the no fighting rule. He could still fight and defeat individuals with none lethal means. I mean hell the thing that defeated Thorkell was a knock-out punch to the chin. If it can work against him it can work against anyone. That could also be a means for him to change the minds of vikings wanting to fight for entertainment like Thorkell by telling them that if they kill their opponents all the time they will run out of people to fight but if you keep them alive they will get stronger to fight you again and the same vice versa. Just my two cents.

Little fact: Askeladd actually did concede the duel before he killed Thors. Askeladd is actually the descendant of King Arthur, and the only reason he killed the King was because he wanted to attack Askeladd's home of Wales. So to save them he acted like he went crazy.

Thors was the strongest person in that show, it was merely because he chose not to kill anymore that Askeladd got him, well that and the fact his son was taken hostage by Askeladd's 2nd in command. But even still Askeladd was also a savage for most of the show, and more than that, he was smart too. He knew that Thors could've killed them all if he wasn't holding back, it's the only reason he was hired in the first place. Cause the one dude was too scared to actually fight him, cause he thought he'd lose all his men in the fight and maybe die himself. Thorkell is also the 2nd strongest person in the show, dude chucked trees and boulders like it was nothing. Changed sides to fight for the losing side because he thought it'd be more fun, and did a whole bunch of crazy things. The only real downside is that knowing how strong Thors is, and that they basically had to kill him off for the show to even progress because he was literally too strong for anyone to beat, meant he didn't get to stay for more one man army moments. I mean you have to also think how bad any enemies had it when Thors and Thorkell were fighting together against them. Forget needing an army they basically clean house by themselves, you do not want to be on the other side of that tag team.

Thorkell was simply called "The Tall" because "The Man So Giant it Takes Two Horses to Move Him." Was a bit too much of a mouthful. Thats a historical fact, man was so big there wasn't a horse in all of Denmark that could carry him so he had to ride a chariot instead.

Thors was the strongest person in that show, it was merely because he chose not to kill anymore that Askeladd got him, well that and the fact his son was taken hostage by Askeladd's 2nd in command. But even still Askeladd was also a savage for most of the show, and more than that, he was smart too. He knew that Thors could've killed them all if he wasn't holding back, it's the only reason he was hired in the first place. Cause the one dude was too scared to actually fight him, cause he thought he'd lose all his men in the fight and maybe die himself. Thorkell is also the 2nd strongest person in the show, dude chucked trees and boulders like it was nothing. Changed sides to fight for the losing side because he thought it'd be more fun, and did a whole bunch of crazy things. The only real downside is that knowing how strong Thors is, and that they basically had to kill him off for the show to even progress because he was literally too strong for anyone to beat, meant he didn't get to stay for more one man army moments. I mean you have to also think how bad any enemies had it when Thors and Thorkell were fighting together against them. Forget needing an army they basically clean house by themselves, you do not want to be on the other side of that tag team.
Imagine how insane Askeladd would be if he was called Thorskeladd! ☠
