  • This lesson with Dr Yakoob serves as an introduction to a 3-part intensive overview of Ottoman history recorded as part of the Karima Foundation to Alimiyyah boys' classes. This session specifically covers the key landmark events of the miraculous nearly 600-year reign of the Ottoman sultans including the conquest of Constantinople, the transformation into a Caliphate, and the Europeanisation that happened just before its final collapse. Ustad Yakoob also highlights the importance of history for Muslims, especially Ottoman history and the need to link ourselves to our past.
    Note: this lesson was conducted for Muslim teenagers and hence the discourse will reflect that, though there is still clear benefit for any viewer.
    Instructor
    Dr Yakoob Ahmed is a PhD graduate from SOAS, University of London. An Ottoman historian, he is currently teaching Islamic history at Istanbul University and was a visiting fellow at the Modern Turkish Studies Centre at Istanbul Şehir University. His research focuses are Muslim intellectual thought in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Islamic constitutionalism, identity, nationalism and collective memory construction.

    I really enjoyed watching this lecture. I’ve also learnt a lot from the Turkish history based dramas (Ertuğrul, Osman and Payitaht Abdülhamid). They put a lot of what you have explained into a way that is easy to visualise and understand

    Whoa
    Brother saw the same thing in Attack on Titan
    I had noticed that too that they were Ottomams being killed by the Germans in what is a Japanese medium when they were whooping everyone's butts in history
    Even how they acted was very unislamic (in the show)

      @mohammadamin1567 3 роки тому +1

      The ottoman empire in general was heavily influenced by the Muslims of Central Asia as this was the region they originated from

    • @anisahmed7118
      @anisahmed7118 3 роки тому

      The root of the Naqshbandiya is from central Asia. However, the specific branch of Naqshbandiya which was influential, I believe, was the khalidiyya, and that was from the Mujaddidi chain, from India.

    Dr.Yacub your lectures are very inlighting.
    What we as muslims dont understand is the western islamic history writings, narative is writin for the own elites, people and isnt writin for moslims. To be fair the west scolers did a pritty good work apart from it's distortions,misundersstandings used as propaganda tools.

    When Sayyidina Imam al-Mahdi and Sayyidina Nabie al-Massiah 'Isa Ibn Maryam Alayhimussalaam ,comes back to this world to lead the whole of Mankind ,everyone and everything will be in its proper place ,there will Justice ,Peace, and Harmony under the guidance and leadership of Sayyidina Imam al-Mahdi and Sayyidina Nabie al-Massiah 'Isa Ibn Maryam Alayhimussalaam..
