- Satya: Ab Tak Pachchees | Celebrating 25 years
Ram Gopal Varma's cinematic masterpiece Satya was released on 3 July 1998. 25 years since then, the film has attained a cult status among filmmakers, cinephiles and film technicians across the country. Starring Manoj Bajpayee, JD Chakravarthy, Urmila Matondkar, Shefali Shah and Saurabh Shukla in prominent roles, Satya was an absolute game-changer when it came to the depiction of gangsters and their world of violence.
Commemorating this monumental film, OTTplay proudly presents its first original documentary film titled 'Satya: Ab Tak Pachchees'. The film is a compendium of several anecdotes, memories and observations of people who were directly involved in the making of Satya. At the same time, it presents views and commentary on Satya's legacy from people within the industry, whom Varma's film has greatly impacted.

BGM by Sandeep Chowta creates the atmosphere of Satya. He should be credited as much for Satya's high recall value.
@@ronS990maarooo sssaaaale ko!
True
Bilkul
So well put and it's absolutely true to the core that it has a high recall value.
Especially the BGM when biku Mhatre plans to kill along Satya and his team when Guru Narayan arrives,
at the airport 👍👍👍
Aditya Shrivastav role was most underrated role in the movie.. I'm astonished that nobody is appreciating his performance as Inspector Khandelkar...
Yes ,, he nailed it
Yaad i too feel that way. I was 18 when i watched the film. I didn't even know who is this man but his performance impressed me.
In an interview with Anupama Chopra...Mr.Ramgopal Verma shared a funny instance about him... that after watching these guys having fun during the somg sapne me milti hain....he was feeling to be a part of that Gang.
Fully agree. Aditya Shrivastav was brilliant
This is one of the sad reality of Indian cinema. Plenty of highly talented actors are forced to do small unimportant roles. If they were in hollywood they would be doing lead roles. 🥲
OMG!!! They also got Gerard Hooper, Apurva Asrani, Anurag Kashyap, JD Chakravarthy. 😍This is WAY better than what Film Companion achieved in their segment of 25 Years of Satya.
IKR with just 3.5k subscribers how did they pull this off is a miracle
Definitely. This is a true celebration. Anupama’s interview was very diplomatic and jaded.
Who is Gerard hooper

Film Companion in general, is cringe af
The only missing part was the haunting background score. That is an integral part of Satya's success.
Killing of Bhiku was most hard-hitting seen in the movie and core of the movie...cinamatic brilliance...just fabulous..
Film industries of 'Telugu' and 'Hindi' have a significant and permanent marker 'RGV'
Music 10/10 Story 10/10 Acting 10/10 One of my most favourite movie
The scene where Satya for the final time comes to see his Vithya and he begs her to open the door and she refuses in fright & anger, while the Police guns him down and he falls dead at her feet, as the door opens, while she sits on the bed watching him in tears & dismay is a scene so disturbing it haunts you.
Pure genius minds whoever who wrote this end scene.❤
Saw this movie in a cinema in Vile Parle sitting in stall with my friend. Couldn’t get a balcony ticket. Best thing ever, there were people sitting next to me who made the movie watching experience a 100% move pleasurable. A masterpiece 🙏
Snehal Dabi, Aditya Srivastav, Sushant Singh, Sanjay Mishra, Neeraj Vohra had good supporting roles & now are well established actors. Thank you RGV & Satya team.
Snehal Dabi hasn't found work since welcome 2.
Watch tabassum about snehal dabi
Boss Satya ke level ka yeh Video hai,
What an interview/documentry
Gajab Bhau...
Ek no.....
thank you :) best compliment that we could get
After a long time I saw a 40+ mins video in one sitting. What a memory..... 😊
Another powerful scene is when Satya and Vithya go to the cinema, the police round up the Cinema & Satya fires a shot that leads to a stampede to desperately escape, now that was a mind blowing scene❤
Yes. Fun Fact: it has been shot in the Bhaidas auditorium (The one that belongs to Mithibai college)
For me that was the most unexpected scene in the film.... I was wondering how satya will escape. Goosebumps!!!
Having grown up watching the 70s & 80s crime thrillers from the Mumbai film industry, the genre was usually concentrated on the Hero and the Villain. The villain's sidekicks and foot soldiers who usually did the dirty work were taken for granted.
Satya changed all that, giving them the human side to their existence and life, inspite of all the evil they unleashed (at the Boss' beck and call).
From the chaos and uncertainty of the Mumbai city, to the 99% of populace that run it, Satya captured it in its entirety. No wonder everybody connected with it then, and now, 25 years later...
As the cast and crew admitted it, the broad brush strokes of the characters and the work-in-progress storyline was probably the reason the raw, gritty, almost unfinished film still endears to all cinephiles.
Some scenes in Satya still gives me goosebumps even though I am from Karachi. In 1990s there was a lot of political violence in Karachi too. Since the movie shows ordinary untrained gangsters who had friends, families, neighbors, etc. makes it so much relatable to real life. The operation clean up by the police was even more relatable as the backlash from the gangsters toward the police also happened in real life and almost all the famous policemen who were involved got killed one-by-one in the following years.
@18:37 Sucharita Tyagi ma'am misspoke when she said that that two women were Rani and Vidya. Bhiku Mhatre's wife was Pyari.
This is the best interview of Satya’s 25 th years 🎉🎉
This is such a beautiful made documentary. Kudos to the whole team!
thank you for all the love
Have watched this film repeatedly. Most scenes are a permanent fixture in my mind. What a film❤
Absolutely brilliant movie and awesome docu. Well done to the makers of this docu.
I hope our current generations revisit these movies.
Saw it at Plaza cinema, after watching the movie and when came to Dadar streets I could feel the movie walking next to me.
Path breaking film. One of the best scenes is the Manoj-Shefali scene when he comes home and the Ganpati scene. Every character was brilliantly portrayed and the music and background score was top notch. Love this movie
Chander the loveable childish gangster of the Bhiku gang was a darling too & who can forget the perpertually n constantly high lawyer of the gang, Chandrakant Mulle he was so good. Truly a good actor n a well written role.
Yes! Pura Mumbai lafde mein blast hogaya aur Satya ekdum fast hogaya 🤣🤣🤣
Every time you see Satya movie BTS, interviews etc we found or hear something new related to this movie... That's the magic of this FILIM❤ #RGVMAGIC
I was rewatching it the other day and noticed for the first time how in the newspaper montage scene one headlines is shown on the newspaper that is used as a plate for bhelpuri :))
@@hitarthdesai2759 : Yeah, that was too much Godfather like. Every time you see GF, you will find something new in the movie
What a powerful film Satya was. Brilliant documentation of the making and people involved in it.
Really liked the documentary. Wish Urmila Matondkar, Shefali Shah were also part of it too. Also the music directors- Vishal Bharadwaj and Sandeep Chowta , who I believe did the background score of the film.
Thank you :) We tried to get all of them but sadly they couldn't fit in their schedules :( But we tried our best to let their contributions and significance somehow reflect in the film.
Loved it, thank you for making this ❤ I know I'm going to revisit this many many times
Satya is a master piece
Wowwwwwww.. excellent 👌👌👌👌Sathya sow the seed to all todays content oriented films nd webseries like Mirzapur, gangs of wasseypur nd Sathya highlighted the importance of character artists nd treated like stars.. Sathya totally changed Bollywood film making nd it's broken all the routine cinematic norms
JD Chakravarthy way of talking and body movement is exactly same to Ramu.
We noticed the same thing 😄
Seen many documentaries on Satya, this one is way better, detailed with many inner details not known before. kudos!!
I watched Satya in December 2023 for the first time and was completely blown away by the cinematography, world-building, and storytelling of the film. It felt like watching a documentary or a hollywood-level cinematic recording of a sting operation. The characters were so real and relatable that I forgot about the actors' other films and accepted them as the characters of Satya. The dramatic orchestral music only heightened the appeal of the unfolding storyline. It was hard to believe that such a feat could be achieved in 1998. This movie is one of the finest masterpieces of Bollywood. It should be studied and taught in film schools. Hats off to its creators, cast, and crew members. And thanks a million to everyone involved in the making of this anniversary video!
Satya is a mindblowing outstanding film & JD was perfect for the role of Satya. Satya had a charm all thru the film. Urmila aced Vithya too.
Kalu mama sitting on the same chair now as in the movie 😂😂
"Satya" movie was a classic. And while making a classic you don't know you are making a classic. Classic cannot be made twice. It's only one classic
Satya is a new trend in hindi cinema all indian cinema filmmakers and actor stood and watch the way protaryed the gangsters role next 25 later all audience watch Satya for 50 years .All credit goes to RGV and Team🎉

Absolutely Fantastic.... Totally loved it !!
Excellent and much-need documentary on a landmark film. Thank you!
Satya - a cinematic marvel from school of RGV. Its great - actually great stands the test of time. Hats off.
RGV was not just a director he more intellectual than all other people, you should watch Ramuism Telugu, the way Ramu understands world is not like a human. Great person
Luved it. The scenes were captivating. I liked the personal stories as well.
Satya nd gangs of waseeypur has given limelight to many good actors who were struggling.
What a great tribute to one of the best gangster classics of our times!
It was a path breaking film.. loved it totally it took me away from the usual goody goody and massy films with loud monologues. Three cheers to Ramu sir
Thank you so much for this ❤
Beautiful. Great, video. Very nostalgic, about a beautiful movie.
There was an other video on the occasion of 25 years Satya in other youtube channel where that old nauseating old anchor spoke more than the whole cast assembled. Not saying there should not be an interviewer but I like this format.
Great tribute and very well portrayed✋
Nobody talked about how they roped in Gerard Hooper and why?. Outstanding work by Mr Hooper I must say. The background score of this movie still haunts in my mind. It's one of the best among the very best. Also the other 25 yr documentary I am very eagerly waiting is of 'Ab Tak chappan', which is in my top 10 best movies ever.
@ 4:25 - They needed someone with an outside eye to see the city with a new lens :D
@@hitarthdesai2759 Thanks. Probably I must have missed that while watching.
Well executed and we'll documented...keep it up
Great tribute!! Actually you all should have spoken about late actor Rajesh Joshi who played the character Bapu. He passed away much before the film got released.
I loved this video more than Anupama chopras round table on SAtya25th anniversay, thank you OTTplay
Hi Parth and Hitarth, this a fascinating and fantastic montage of anecdotes. Even two more hours would have been a joy. Wish you could have got hold of Sandeep Chowta too. What a score he has given... the dread, the ominous dirge of the piano. KUdos to all your colleagues for putting this together.
Thank you 😊 Glad you enjoyed watching it. We tried our best to get Sandeep Chowta ji but he refused, might be busy. We are big fans of the background score too.
Congratulations team! Great work with the documentary ❤
Why is Govind Namdev not seen anywhere at all....Pulled the Poles towards him....what an energy...absolutely befitting for the character.
Mast hai ye satya hai❤
Loved It
What a befitting tribute to one of the cult classics of Indian cinema
Real goosebumps how they got together do many young talent below 25
Only here for my most favourite actor and the God of acting for me MANOJ SIR✨✨✨✨
Zabardast !
Ek no
Bhiku matre is like Tony soprano, machoistic but vulnerable
Me ne satya bachpan se ab 50 bar dekhi hai
Aisi movie dubara kabi ni ban skti.
Love from Lahore ❤🎉
The way Bhiku was shot by Bhau..was another brilliant scene. It was so powerful & the actor who played Bhau is damn good too, he is evil & brilliance all in one in his role.
They should re-released this film in theatre. It would have been an amazing experience.
Brilliantly exicuted
Remember!! RGV is one of a kind director and there won't be another RGV in the Indian Film Industry ever.
An amazing watch !
rgv is a very good music listener I think because of his dad being a sound technician and in accordance he might have adopted even how the music should sound for the films and I usually love Sandeep chouta music but in rgv films ,only rgv's kind of music is special even after if it is composed by a great music director and I love that haunting music
Hooper is on point , the perspective is so refreshing
Wonderful 👍 detailing
even after 50 years, this film will be in discussion.
Loved it guys. Thank you so much
❤
Those who didn’t get the reference 8:13. Howard Roark from The Fountainhead (Ayn Rand) I always thought Satya fit that role perfectly.
Great team…..congratulations 👏👏❤🎉
❤Dhanyawad
This is what I would call a good interview to celebrate 25 years of Satya, most of them involved in the film are here.
Not like what was done recently by another channel with 4 people present and mostly speaking abt Bhiku and his wife's scenes???
Really Great Film that Stunned everyone
One of the best movie of bollywood history
One of the Best in Indian Movies
J D was amazing actor watch Gulabi and mrugam movies absolutely stunning performance
Satya was a great movie. I had great time watching it.
Beyond brilliant... Dont want this to end😮
❤
To me Satya is the greatest movie from Bollywood after Sholey. So good to see how the film was made. Many emotional memory I have with Satya. I've watched it too many time it became part of my life.
& i've not watched it yet....really eager to watch in nearby future
Lezz go Hitarth 🚀🚀🚀
Good documentary .. Thank you RGV for Satya and Company ..
Thank you :) Company is my favourite too
one of my fav movie, watched about 15 times
Too goood doc 👏
Brilliant
The movie should be remastered and re-released today!
Surprised , most impactful scene of movie Satya is “threatening music director at night ‘“ but no discussion of that scene in this video , in cinema hall this scene is shook me
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Great docufilm👌.. will watch Satya again😄
purpose achieved ❤
Satya's character - LIT
Very nice 👍👍
Satya is an absolute gem of Indian cinema. Sad what Bollywood mafia did to RGV.
RGV's fall can be seen with the utter garbage that comes out of Bollywood these days.
RGV makes Movies from Real word He made Siva which is Inspired from his Surroundings happened in Vijayawada later,Satya then Raktha Charitra
15:09😌 *bosssz of bossses* guru ji
