I'd really like to meet people who think Hirani is versatile. I mean, he's good and has a great ear for comedy. But, every film is an execution of the same formula. A disapproving father, a side-kick who looks up to the hero, having a keyword (jadoo ki jhappi, wrong number, all is well, gandhigiri), fixing an establishment through a hero who does not belong there. Basically, fun and enjoyable, but definitely formulaic. Also, I really really like RGV, but I'd say his film-making is quite formulaic too, that way. I get that it's your personal opinion, but if it's about versatility, it has to be Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, Geetu Mohandas, Kamal Hassan or someone like that. These guys literally change their film-making styles, lighting, storytelling, music and so much more with every film.

A fresh & honest interview. You can see the passion in Ramu. Ramu is a path breaker & true Outlier, though he seems to have lost his way recently. I have loved his movies, design & talent he has given. Rangeela is a bigger movie, DDLJ overshadowed releasing in a small gap. A curious case just like The Shawshank Redemption being overshadowed by Forrest Gump. I have loved Shiva, Raat, Rangeela, Satya, Company, Sarkar & so so many more. Bounce back & bounce back hard Ramu, Bollywood is too bogus & dull without you.
The director who had lost his Midas touch.... A career graph which declined as steeply after 2000s.... As steeply as Rajamouli's rise.... Hope he bounces back, but chances are less as he has exhausted all his ideas.... His ideas and genres seemed fresh for mid 90s to early 2000s as those were new to Indian cinema at that time and Indians were not exposed to world cinema and content.... This interview was hilarious, didn't know Ramu is so funny. The stories he said about the making of the music was crazy - whether it is AR telling him after 4 days that next time not putting him in room with TV or that "hai rama" tune sounded like a classical music or the title track sounding like a tribal song .... all great stories, hilarious!!
It is incredibly mysterious how Ramu sounds so wonderfully respectful of his colleagues on the film and how he never even once sounds full of himself which he otherwise seems all the time these days! It is incredible how nostalgia can take you back to your own self and make you see the world with the same naive curiosity!

Keeping aside all his films and ground breaking stuff he has done as a director/producer, the number of people that he has given a break to and the quality of those people, speaks so much about his eye for talent.
so this shows that he is best at give interviews when I watch these telugu language interviews they always ask about the choices he make more than the work may be thats why he answer the questions in such blatant manner. God he brought such change to the Indian cinema!

@@RV-ru5kb But he immediately found an altenative I guess. After Daud, he didn't go for Rahman. Next film was Satya. Songs by Vishal Bharadwaj and Background score by Sandeep Chowta. And next film Mast. Ramu made Sandeep Chowta debut as a music director in Mast. And Sandeep's sound was very close to Rahman's. When I heard the title song of Mast from an audio shop, I thought it is Rahman. The blasting music, orchestration- all had a Rahman flavor to it. Sandeep continued to work with Ramu for so many movies - Jungle, Prema Kadha, Pyar Tune Kya Kiya, Road, Rakthacharitra(bgm) etc. Rahman did only two movies for Ramu but those two movie music were legendary. People still hum all songs of Rangeela and Shabba Shabba, Oh bhavre from Daud.

But Rakta Charitra Part 2 was not as good as part 1, as he made it overly dramatic trying to justify the opposite character!

There will be no other director like RGV in India..First movie I watched in his direction was Kshana Kshanam (sridevi, Venkatesh,1991) in a theatre as a kid and really enjoyed it..Very different from any movies made in Telugu before that. My love and respect for Sridevi increased after that movie..
I really lost it when I pictured young ARR telling RGV that he didn’t compose because he wasted hours watching TV. Hilarious !!! This interview was charming
This is the most fun interview I have watched in a long time. Ramu is an absolute original; made some path breaking films when film content and story telling was so limited. Enjoyed it Anupama. Cheers
Anupama, these last few days I’ve been watching Film Companion obsessively, thanks to you showcasing Malayalam talent that no one, north of Kerala, has ever bothered to do. With this interview, 2 things are clear - 1) You are a true blue film buff/nerd and the joy in you, when talking films with filmmakers, is infectious! I rarely see such connection (and preparedness) in interviews. 2) I had forgotten what Ramu was all about. And sadly I had also bought into the media narrative of his arrogance and how he’s a “has been”. I’m thankful to you for showcasing what a gifted filmmaker RGV is. I firmly believe he’s a national treasure and has so much to give. Thank you for reminding us of that! Lastly, I have a suggestion - Ramu deserves a few more interviews with you - there’s Shiva, Satya and Company. And numerous others! I know a lot has already been discussed on these movies but I bet you can bring out a unique perspective and more nuggets that others wouldn’t have.....I mean who would have ever known that Rahman goofed off his time in Goa watching TV and Manish Malhotra and Ahmed Khan would have been unknowns, had it not been for Ramu and his impulsive ways! And the Steven Kapoor reveal is priceless 😄
RAAT RANGEELA SATYA COMPANY BHOOT DARNA MANA HAI ROAD KAUN SARKAAR SHIVA MAST DAUD AB TAK CHHAPPAN RANN JUNGLE EK HASEENA THI D VASTU SHASTRA AND MANY MORE RAMU IS INDIA'S ONLY FILM MAKER WHO HAD GIVEN VERY DIFFERENT RANGE OF CINEMA THROUGH THE YEARS BEFORE HIS DOWNFALL. Just reading peoples’ comments below tells you the depth and intelligence of ramu’s fan base. Such eloquent articulation by so many below. I dare you to find such depth in chopra/johar fan base.
Really appreciate the honesty with which RGV spoke...It would be wonderful to know how Urmila looks back at Rangeela. Would request Anumana Ma'am to do an interview with her.
Heard him speak after 25 yrs. 😉 But its so refreshing to hear RGV speak. When he was in his prime of film making , there weren’t many interviews and publicity going on where everyone was speaking. Their work did the talking. I am so happy after hearing all the stories and his perspective. Thank you Anupama maam for this.
What makes Rangeela special is not RGV,Urmila,Amir etc......it's one and only AR Rahman's Music...which blasted poor quality music at that time in Hindi cinema...copy cats like Anu Malik ,Bappi Lahiri ran for covers when a real legend entered Mumbai...never before Hindi audience faced such a talent....
Great interview Ms Anupama, RGV has been and will always be one of my all time favorite film personality not only as a director, writer and creative genius that he is but also for a no one cares attitude
4:20 So freaking happy he mentioned Mani Ratnam. I just love the fact that Mani and RGV are polar opposite in their personalities yet their sensibilities cross each other. Would love to listen to them both talking. Great interview, cheers.
Such a lovely interview...By seeing his explanation regarding the story n process of his film making..I feel like is film making was such an easy thing and even I too should make a movie of my own experiences and story..

The way he explained the climax was so butiful. I love how he so peculiarly understands his flaws but also silently admits that he has made a cult. Beautiful interview. I wish he can come up to the surface again and make something amazing again.
This man is sooooo honest. Though we miss the old Ramu we still don't mind the current one. Thanks for changing the industry forever. Raat, Shiva, Rangeela, Satya, Bhoot, Company and so many more masterpieces. Urmila is my all time fav.
Never found RGV so sensible and humble in any of his other interviews I've seen ..really liked his transparency
I could pay a 1000 bucks and watch this man talk for 3 hours and I'd savour it very much... RGV 💙
There's 50 hours of him talking. But in Telugu: ua-cam.com/play/PLwUkzqL9e05xOskEmylP4zUVkz0RBzUzU.html
most of his interview stuff is in telugu... otherwise u guys will see a philosopher, rushi and a kid in him
Being proud of Telugu guy❤️
@@sharadhotha1475 yeah been watching it since it aired... I've converted all these convos into audio files and listen to them time to time
@@sundeepk1138 I'm a telugu guy so ramuism and all other interview of his I watch regularly and repeatedly
RGV to strugglers - "sadak se uthakar star bnauga"🙄🙄
learn the spelling first
Keeping aside all his films and ground breaking stuff he has done as a director/producer, the number of people that he has given a break to and the quality of those people, speaks so much about his eye for talent.
Absolutely loved this interview...please interview Urmila, it would be interesting to know how she looks back at the movie...
so this shows that he is best at give interviews when I watch these telugu language interviews they always ask about the choices he make more than the work may be thats why he answer the questions in such blatant manner. God he brought such change to the Indian cinema!
There is so much relief in RGV's face as a worthy/knowledgeable anchor/cinema-person is doing the interview.
Film companion is a meaningful platform amidst the chaotic news feeds and UA-cam channels. Great work. Thoroughly enjoyed your interview with ram gopal verma!

a r rahamn song you will never like in first atempt.. it slowly seeps in and becomes your fav
Ramu and Rahman going to Goa and Rahman watching TV all day is a very funny story. 😁😁😁😁
🤣🤣🤣
Haha true !! Some trip that might have been !!
Surprised he did not hire Rahman's assistant after that to do the rest of the score!!! :)
@@adityasen2281 Yes for sure😁
Just loved this so much.Im such a big fan of Raktha Charitra also. Vivek was just amazing there. I love his Ramuism episodes too,not that I go by what he says there, instead I use those as food for thought and finally form my opinions. He is bloody cool~.FC. You guys are awesome.
Yeah can't agree to all his views, but most of the time he does put forth some compelling arguments!
Rakhtcharitra is a very underrated movie...once you actually google all those real stories and people/characters attached to it..then you can appreciate it even more...
@@nishantsharda
If you are from Andhra, you actually know about the factions gangs of that area.... It was not only a great film, but it was his most gutsy film, as he got death threats from the followers of those faction leaders who died, they said they will hack him to death when he steps in that village, if he doesn't stop his film.... But Rakta Charitra Part 2 was not as good as part 1, as he made it overly dramatic trying to justify the opposite character!
Chaman charlie. I loved Part 1 more than 2,too
This was a terrific interview with right questions and fabolous answers. Ramu is such mimic that he flawlessly picks up mannerisms of people..and how funny he talks...Man seem to be different from his films....
When the song first came out, the sound was unique and too much next level for our IQ but as it grew on you, the song were inseparable for months/years !!! AR Rahman ♥️👌👍💐💥🔥
After watching this interview I really wanna watch Rangeela all over again 💕
ARR-RGV Combination always rocks both are legendary and intellectual personalities
I think they only did 1 or 2 movies together
Omg I was 15 when the film released. So want Mr Verma to direct films like Satya and Rangeela. He’s a genius!
I really hope that this guy succeeds again in Bollywood as his kind of cinema is very much missed. He just has to make proper movie without any fancy camera angles or lighting and surely he will succeed.
Haha he has gone overboard in his 'angles' over the years! 😂😅
He’s coming up with Arnab the news presstitute now
Vi K yeah fancily insane
The Guy is legend ! ✅

best director ever
we never know he can make his comeback anytime
I've watched this interview four times and it's still as entertaining!
Loved every second of this gem of a conversation. Be it Anupama Chopra's interview with RGV in his crazy office set up or this one, the interviews are all heart and love for cinema. #ACChaluHaiTohIdharGhumaNa
Atleast once in week do interview with this gem ❤️
What an amazing interview after a looooooong time :D
In conclusion, Never send your assistants to RGV
😂
😁😂
😂
😂🤣
Ramu is such an intellectual mind. His interviews are really entertaining.
I really lost it when I pictured young ARR telling RGV that he didn’t compose because he wasted hours watching TV. Hilarious !!!
This interview was charming
Amazing Amazing Interview. Thanks Anupama ji for doing this and always a fan of Ramu, his philosophy, lifestyle and thought process.
With this interview, 2 things are clear -
1) You are a true blue film buff/nerd and the joy in you, when talking films with filmmakers, is infectious!
I had a smile throughout the video...it is always fun hearing ramu ...everyone wants him to direct great movies again
Legend RGV ! Waiting for another love story
Boys just want one thing and that is RGV to make a kickass comeback.
What a fantastic interview ... Loved every moment of it

This the ramu we really miss😍....deep down everybody wants that sensible, rebellious and great film maker ramu who changed hindi cinema...pls come back master
Would request Anumana Ma'am to do an interview with her.
ua-cam.com/video/fYIJG_aqR7U/v-deo.html
He is such an honest man, tells what he copied from which movie unlike any other directors.
What a honest talent..
Heard him speak after 25 yrs. 😉
But its so refreshing to hear RGV speak.
Exactly
Brilliant interview !
It somehow changed my perception of Ramu ! Very different from the way he operates today...
Wow....
M so so so happy Thanks anupama Chopra thanks film companion for this lovely and honest interview....
U made my day...
Great interview Ms Anupama, RGV has been and will always be one of my all time favorite film personality not only as a director, writer and creative genius that he is but also for a no one cares attitude
Well this was an excellent interview Ramu was very entertaining.

that A R Rahman bit in goa was hilarious :D
This is one entertaining and engaging interview that has come out in a long time now....
He was once considered the best!!
Please make this kind of an interview for satya movie, obviously it takes 3 more years to complete 25 years for satya movie #RGV
Next interview fixed in 2023
4:20 So freaking happy he mentioned Mani Ratnam. I just love the fact that Mani and RGV are polar opposite in their personalities yet their sensibilities cross each other. Would love to listen to them both talking. Great interview, cheers.
This is so delightful. Extremely engaging. Kudos to Film Companion to get RGV to interview. One of the best RGV interviews. Great anecdotes
Loved this interview, Thanks anupama !
He introduced 100of technicians to filmindustry still he is so humble,🙏

Such a lovely interview...By seeing his explanation regarding the story n process of his film making..I feel like is film making was such an easy thing and even I too should make a movie of my own experiences and story..

Always interesting. could listen to him speak in 100 more videos
Lucky are the telugu guys who get to watch Ramuism in telugu.. RGV is a philosopher for many in telugu states
Can someone also interview Urmila Matondkar?
It's her film after all!
true i second that

But some over confident lady considered Urmila as a soft porn star😏
She is the heart of the film. True.
