Lesney were always proud that they never used lead paint. To the point that they also ensured that the inks used in printing the boxes were lead free. The boxes, and later, the blister packs always had 'Model and package guaranteed lead free' printed on them. Beautiful result. Lovely little truck.

Morning, may I say that you are one of few people on this planet that makes me really happy , for you reminds me of my childhood with my father's collection in the 80s , keep on this great work ...
Lovely restoration, Marty! This exact Matchbox Removals Van model 17-A-3 and the Brook Bond Tea Trojan Van 47-A-2 were the first Matchbox models my mom bought me circa 1959 - still have 'em, too!
One of the things I love about your channel Marty is the variety you get whilst showing the restorations. It might be cracking a few jokes, it might be Kevin up to mischief, and the newspapers in the spray booth. In the end though you do wonderful work with historic toys, bringing them back to life again. So a vlog with no extras makes absolute sense because it focuses on you love for these models. And to be honest - I'm happy with that!
I found one of these in the early '60s lying on its side, boxless, on a shelf in a downtown Brooklyn NY department store toy area after Christmas decorations were torn down. It cost 49 cents plus about four cents sales tax. The decals were already a bit decayed and sticky so eventually they came off. I still have it somewhere, and saw another one in a model train store recently but probably not for 49 cents now. The font lettering was thicker on the van I have. There's an early Matchbox compressor truck with the same front end.
I see that, like myself, you save ALL of the little bits and bobs you come across, and organize and label appropriately.................This was a nice, back to basics, restoration, showcasing your talents and ingenuity while still being amusing and fun. Thanks!
Wonderful work Marty! I played with so many of the models you restore back in the 1960s and it is such a treat to see you make them look like new again. Didn't have the Bedford van, but certainly had a Pickfords one with the plastic slide-up door. Sadly for me, my own son showed no interest in toy cars (of any scale) whatsoever - it was all electronic games for him. Different times!

That is a stunning looking model/restoration. It's simple, yet eye catching and a simple restoration is satisfying. On another note, Julie's figure is nowhere near half moon like a cotter pin. She's a beautiful young lady with lovely curves. Maybe a little too honest, but every lady is beautiful in her own way.
Another wonderful episode Marty, and a fantastic job of restoring this model to its original splendour. I got a real chuckle both from reading the newspaper headline in your paint booth (Something I look forward to with each video,) and a howl of laughter seeing the labels on your parts case. Great restoration. The tailgate is an odd fixture. If Matchbox had put 2 pins on the lower edge, and none on the top, the tailgate would open. 12:25, that is why Kevin is missing from the video? He is in Mallacoota.
I like the original Matchbox cars and trucks too as they were simple and had a unique charm about them. Your work on this one was outstanding and it truly looks like it just came out of the box! I always look forward to a Marty's Matchbox Makeover tutorial.

I have to say tho' that the care that you show to these old toys and the quality of the restoration ( brought back to new ) are what brings me back every time. Thank you for the video!
The round "defects" you asked about are made by the ejector pins built into the mould. If they don't retract all the way between shots they leave a depression. Could also occur if the metal was still hot and the casting was stuck.
@@MartysMatchboxMakeovers Hi Marty and Ruben. These metal models are 'die-cast', injection moulding is a similar process, but is used for plastics. In die-casting, as the molten metal cools and solidifies within the cavity of the mould it contracts and when the mould opens or 'splits' the object being die-casting can require considerable force to eject it from the cavity. Marty - these spots on a model that you mentioned during undercoat phase are marks after pouring metal into the mould. Little metal bars that connected many parts in a single mould (f.ex 20 parts in one mould) were broken off or cut away during cleanine of a casting by an ironworker who removed all sharp edges and most of imprefections

Back to your roots with this one Marty, great restoration. As for the decal font I think that it is good for it to be slightly different to the original as in the future when it is no longer in your hands less possibility of someone passing it off as a mint original, that is another reason some of us use the chrome ink to detail as this was not used by Lesney.

Marty! Gosh I have not watched you in some time. The politics here has been so distracting; ...no time for relaxing. Thats exactly what your videos let me do. Hey I'm about to try something I learned from you. This looked like a good video to come back on. I'm working on a hot-tub that has a cracked diverted valve. It allows changing the water flow from one system to another. Floor jets to lounge or whatever. That super glue and baking soda trick. I'm going to try and fill this crack with your method. The light bulb went off, ...Marty, oh yeah I wonder whats up with Marty. I got to let him know I'm going to try his method. I see you mention it in this video too. Cool. I'll let you know if it works. looks like your channel has grown, very nice. I like when your wife; I like when the Kawal bear peaks in the window. lol. If your not paying attention, all of a sudden, did I just see a Kawal bear in the window? that's cute. lol. ok Marty, so glad you are still doing these.
Hi Marty, ALPS made printers for creating water slide decals and they had the ability to print white. Sadly they stopped production on those printer and even refurbished printers are out of the price range of the average modeler. See Link --> ( www.alps-printer.com/refurbished-alps-md-5500-md5500-decal-waterslide-usb-printer-p-4852.html ) Another great restore Marty and I have to say as modelers, we tend to collect the oddest things, but toenails clippings are not part of my collection 😂 🤣 🙃 Cheers, Rich S.
I don't know if this is relevant to Marty and the gang but I have been taping threads into aluminum for almost two decades. In my industry of small electronic devices, I use M3 and M2 taps almost exclusively. I recently purchased Dormer Pramet machine taps and they are they best taps I have ever used. I am not affiliated with the company, just sharing my experience. I live in Canada but I'm certain you can buy this brand of machine tap all around the world. For me it was a game changer so I just want to share it with you all. Drink lots of beer and keep hiding your sausages! Cheers.

Those round depressions are called mold marks on polystyrene models.
On plastic parts they are where the ejector pins push the part off the tool. This maybe similar on die casting?

Funny that you should say that Ray. Only 3 days ago I dusted off my wive's 'Silhouette Cameo' cutter. Now I've just got to remember how to use it. We had forgot she had it tucked away in the roof for the last 3 or four years. never thought about cutting out white vinyl, sounds good! Thanks.
Wondering why the cab on this model doesn’t detach from the rest of the body? Looks great BTW, love the colour. Did you forget to straighten the edge of the cargo box? Finally, have you ever tried Wurth rubber restorer on the hard plastic tyres? (I note that Kevin’s ritalin box was empty, no wonder he wasn’t around 🤣)
Thanks Marty
Cheers.
Thanks Marty. I agree with others that are subscribed. Your channel is awesome and very relaxing. After a hard week at work I look forward to your vids. You attention to details. Wow. And, we are all happy with that 😄
Toe nail clippings make good A pillars. ;-). Perfect as usual Marty. Thanks for the sanity.
Very very nice!
Kevin’s Ritalin!! 😜
Hi Marty, Looks fantastic just the right size to move Kevin, ( on head lights ?) All the best Brian 🤗.
