I did this trip on the Canadian National in 1968. I'll say that equipment you showed in this video is a huge improvement from the past. And that train and the stations looked completely deserted! Lots of terrific scenery. You realize how vast and underpopulated the middle of Canada is.

I just got through watch Michael Downie's ride from Jasper to Vancouver. During the summer he did the whole distance, and just wanted the Rockies during the winter. That is a gorgeous part of the trip.
FYI -- In winter the train is about 13 - 15 cars. IN summer it can easily be 21 cars and they would add a third engine for going thru the Rockies part.
Love the experience. I did this route but from the opposite end from Vancouver to Toronto and it was also in Cabin for 2. I also made a video because I was looking and surprised to see a few videos on the Via Rail The Canadian, especially the eastbound. I was lucky enough to see the prestige class from someone I asked nicely, which was amazing. But what I like is where you can meet other people from other places.
Great video guys... I did this trip a few years ago and really enjoyed it... I thought the meals were fantastic. I met people from all over the world. One evening they had live entertainment in the park car. Our stop in Winnipeg was -35 C. -31 F.
@@GroundedLifeTravel Little known fact. Winnipeg held the record for many years as the coldest city with a US diplomatic establishment, ( a consulate), until it lost the title about 20 years ago when Ulan Bator Mongolia got an Embassy.
I rode this train from Vancouver BC to Montreal in October of 1977. I rode economy class which included non-adjustable seats in an unheated car. Because it was economy they didn't allow renting blankets or eating in the dining car. I remember my first trip and the incredible views fondly. Although your accomodations seem more comfortable thanks for a ride down memory lane.
Hello both. Great video as always. I did most of this route. We started in Ottawa and then a few days in Toronto. Out trip on the Canadian went as far as Jasper and after a few days there we took the Via Rail to Prince Rupert via Prince George. At Prince Rupert we took the BC Ferry to Bear Cove, Port Hardy on Vancouver Island with a stop before we got to Victoria. We had a good few days in Victoria before flying home. The train was a great experience and the food was very good. Other years I went on the Rocky Mountaineer from Banff to Vancouver and on another trip I went from Jasper to Vancouver via Quesnel and Whistler. If you haven’t been on the Rocky Mountaineer I would recommend it. I went Gold Leaf class, expensive, but really worth it. My trips were all in the summer. The only winter trip I did was from, Vancouver to Calgary in a February. It was cold!
Thank you for riding the ViaRail train. Probably would be prettier if you were in the summer, but the winter gives you a whole new perspective of a Canadian winter. Looked like there were not too many people on the train? Great video, thanks from outside Vancouver BC.
Love the video. I really recommend this voyage in the summer also. Completely different feel. Also, I can't believe how many days you went without sun. That is definitely not the norm here. All the best on your adventures!

The train is just about the only way we travel now. So much more relaxing and better for my health.
Us too!
This was a lot of fun. I have seen this same tour on 4 different sites. Most are very good. You all went at such a great time. I love snow. Glad you had the pot pie!
Glad you enjoyed it! The snow was beautiful!

I’ve been waiting awhile for this trip and it did not disappoint! Thank you! 😊❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for taking me on your journey with you. 🤗
I just got through watch Michael Downie's ride from Jasper to Vancouver. During the summer he did the whole distance, and just wanted the Rockies during the winter. That is a gorgeous part of the trip.
ssaammeee!!! 😊
Lovely thank you both for posting
Glad you enjoyed it
A beautiful journey! Thanks loads.. 👏😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Ty for showing us how it all goes on, on the train...i so want to do this , and now more than ever. Finally someone films this trip 🥰
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
This is one long train. Beautiful ride.
Yes it was! We were surprised how much we walked each day.
FYI -- In winter the train is about 13 - 15 cars. IN summer it can easily be 21 cars and they would add a third engine for going thru the Rockies part.
Thank you! What a great trip!
The meals they served looked delicious.
I did like all the different areas this train had for getting out of the cabins.
Our pleasure!
Great video. Thank you. Jasper looks beautiful from a warm distance
It really is!
Great video guys... I did this trip a few years ago and really enjoyed it... I thought the meals were fantastic. I met people from all over the world. One evening they had live entertainment in the park car. Our stop in Winnipeg was -35 C. -31 F.
Awesome! That is really cold! We had it pretty cold in Edmonton, but not that low.
@@GroundedLifeTravel Little known fact. Winnipeg held the record for many years as the coldest city with a US diplomatic establishment, ( a consulate), until it lost the title about 20 years ago when Ulan Bator Mongolia got an Embassy.
Both of you, always a joy to watch.
Thanks so much!
I’m so happy for you two!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your trip
The food looks delicious 😋
It was!
I agree with you and the desserts really really great too.
So cool that the trains keep going regardless of so much snow.
Yes, thanks
Great ideas! We might go to Prince Rupert next time and take the ferry if we go in the summer.
Doing my pre-trip research, and that's a great video review, with the focus on the journey and train. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for riding the ViaRail train. Probably would be prettier if you were in the summer, but the winter gives you a whole new perspective of a Canadian winter. Looked like there were not too many people on the train? Great video, thanks from outside Vancouver BC.
Not too full at the start but it filled up around Jasper
The train between Edmonton and Vancouver would be pretty full
omg that food at the end, im so jealous. great trip, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Wow Canadians trains seems a bit different from ours when it comes to room, food, amenities, I hope my beloved Amtrak gets there too soon!❤
The viewing cars were awesome!
Amtrak does a run from Seattle to Vancouver, and back and will be twice a day come March 2023.
Thanks so much for sharing your journey... thoroughly enjoyed it....
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the video. I really recommend this voyage in the summer also. Completely different feel. Also, I can't believe how many days you went without sun. That is definitely not the norm here. All the best on your adventures!
Thanks for sharing!
We've never travelled on Amtrak or Via long distance trains. But this video seems to confirm what I've always thought. Via > Amtrak. Great video, guys. Very relaxing to watch also. Bravo!
Thanks!
This was a lovely winter trip across Canada, but there would be so much more to see in the summer!
hello i love this info great thank for sharing I am a new subscriber from Canada Ontario
Lovely vlog! I took the train twice from Vancouver to Toronto, on my bucket list, is to do the Toronto to Vancouver next time, Victoria is one of my favorite places, especially Buchart garden! I am absolutely fortunate to be able to live in such a beautiful country!
Thanks!
very well done!! We've been told about the legendary Park Car, and this is the best intro to it that I've yet to see. Thanks again!
Wow, thanks! It was very nice.
