Thank you for doing an adult version. I could not see myself at work with my hair in 12 sections and bound together as you did for your little girls. I have worn twists in the past and like that look so this fit perfectly with what I like.
I washed/conditioned my hair today and threaded when I was done. Nadine…it’s AMAZING!!! I feel like I’ve been under a rock! I reeeeally like the stretch. Can’t wait to take it down and see the results. I plan to thread again in a few days for maximum stretch. Thanks so much for the detailed tutorial.
Yes, you can swim with it. The thread stops it from shrinking as it would with twists. Just be careful not to manipulate too much when washing. I've put info on how I wash and maintain in the description box below the video.
Kids are about to be out of school and I will have all day to work on this without having to stop and go somewhere. I hope I can make it as neat as yours.
Ha ha! Don't you just love those wayward twists? :). No breakage from threading. It's actually a great length retainer. I use weave thread. The same stuff they use to sew-in weave extensions. You can buy it from any hair and beauty supply store (usually behind the counter). x
No problem! :) When I get to the end I wrap the thread around my thumb, to hold open a loop and then thread it through. It's really hard to explain it in words. I do show a close up of it in the African Threading tutorial (vid#9). I think I'm going to do a faq video specifically for threading, because I get this question a lot. I hope watching the video helps, if not, look out for an faq vid coming soon.
So I finally got around to trying African threading on my hair. I saved this video in my favorites so I can come back a refer to it when I was ready. I pretty much got the hang of it but I have yet to get the knot perfected when I get to the end. Thanks again! I refuse to use heat so I'm happy to find this technique!! Thanks for sharing!! Oh I'm a subscriber!!
I know this video was along time ago, I hope you do not stop making hair videos. You have helped me so much and you brought me back to my roots all the way to Haiti. I love every hairstyle you do sis.
I first watched this when I was transitioning. After a year of the transition, I cut off what was left of my relaxed hair. This is my second month continuously protective styling and as I am challenging myself to continue to the end of the year, I intend to try African Threading soon. Did it as a minor but never in adulthood. As my hair is only about 4 inches, Im a lil nervous about how it'll look but willing to try. THANKS for great tutorial!
Thank you! The hairline thing is a pain. When I remember to spritz with water and seal with Jamaican black castor oil, it does actually improve. It's just with pregnancy brain, I always forget. :)
I had my baby last year and my already thin hairline is now even thinner as well. It looks just like yours..you don't know how much better I feel! Great vid, and a smooth and speedy birth to you!
Thank you! The black thread I used is called 'weave thread'. It's the same thread that is used to sew in weave extensions. I'm not certain how to say it in Spanish, but according to google translator it's 'hilo tejer'? Es el mismo hilo usado para coser en extensiones de cabello, por lo que debe ser capaz de encontrar en cualquier tienda que vende extionsions pelo. Hopefully this is accurate and helps! :)
Absolutely. You wouldn't get as much 'hang', but it can be done. In the past, when I'd done a big chop and wanted the look I'd add extensions. It was fantastic for growing out my hair or transitioning. Hmm, I need to do a video on that. :)
Awesome. I learned how to do this threading from one of your videos and love to do my daughters hair this way. Now to practice on mine. Thanks for the video.
Oh my.., I love it!! I where twist often and, yes,, mine last about a week before they need to be redone. I am sooo sold on the African threading technique!!! I can't wait when I'm able to try it!!!
Thank you! This is a great question, which quite a few people have asked, so I've put the information in the description box, below the video, on washing and maintenance. :)
eH eH my Ghanaina sista thank you very much, I'm trying to grow out my hair from all the perms and texturizing of the past decade. Your vids a great inspiration and help, thanks - God bless
Thank you so much for this video! I did about 10 twists and it seriously took me about an hour so i took them out. Now, thanks to your video i know that i have to knot the top so it doesn't keep slipping. I will try again tomorrow
Nadine thanks for this! I tried for the first time and I'm in love with this style. I didn't think hair was long enough but it turned out so nice. I've gotten tons of compliments.
Sorry it's taken me a while to get back. In the African Threading video (vid#9) I show a close up of how I do the knot. I'll put a link in the description area. It works perfectly under wigs. I've done it and my mum did it all the time. I believe it really promotes growth, because it does more of a thorough job of stretching out your hair preventing knots and tangles. I do have a detangling video, so check that out - vid#1. I usually use a slightly wider toothed comb, I was just being lazy ;)x
I appreciate your tutorials. I work a very unpredictable schedule, so it's very hard to find time to do my daughter's hair. I will be trying these techniques for their first day of school.
This looks just like twists! I'm ashamed to say I purchased thread to try something like this maybe 6-7 years ago :( ... never tried it :( ... maybe when I grow my hair back I will. Thanks so much for this vid.
Wow...never heard of this technique before! I just bought an electric hot comb to straighten my hair and was looking for some tutorial vids when I came across your tutorial. So glad I did...this looks like a great technique. I am going to run my hot comb back to the store, buy some weave thread and try this technique tonight. Mahalo!!!
Thanks for making this video, had he big chop 1.5yrs ago & I want to give my hair a break from braiding,I run out of ideas until I watched your video so thank you for this. I'm off to thread😃
Thank you! When I remember to spritz with water and seal with Jamaican black castor oil, it does make a difference. I just need to be better at remembering. :)
beautiful. I like this over the two strand twist looks good and easier take down. I bought some weave thread and the guinea pig will be my daughter. my hair is not long enough yet.
I love this tutorial. I am almost two years into my hair journey and my hair is super kinky and thick and I get a lot of knotting of my ends. I am considering doing the African threading to stretch my hair with the hope of also getting rid of those thick knotted ends. I would like to see how you end the threading as this will be my first attempt. I like the fact that it can be used as a hairstyle and for the length of time too. Thanks much
:) Oh no! Honestly, African threading is MUCH easier to learn on someone else first. If you don't have someone you can practice on, I'd get a cheap doll and practice getting the hand rhythm down first. I learnt on my own hair as a child and it wasn't pretty, but I was a child and didn't care as much about looking crazy in public...lol. There is a bit of a learning curve, but keep practicing, because once you get it, you'll LOVE the ease and quickness of it. Keep me posted on your progress! :) x
Wow this is sooo cute! it reminds me of my childhood! I used to love thread breads, this day made them even plated and stuff. Hers we a bit too tight, urs look nice and comfortable to wear! If I got a tip I would like to share, threads tend to pull on the hair and leave it very dry (though it leaves hair extra stretched!!) so I found that adding some olive oil on the thread before using it really helps- in addition to having well moisturized hair...
I love your vids and I am so glad you finally uploaded this tut. I am def. going to try this next time I do twists. Thanks and congrats on another baby!
Girlsloveyourcurls, I greatly thank you for putting out this video. I have been spending the entire wknd reviewing your videos & making note of the technique so i avoid too much tension and unraveling to get the best results. As soon as I have leisure time I will begin stretching my hair as apart of my hair regimen. I am now waaaay to anxious to try it out. Anything to protect my hair and keep it away from heat and chemicals WILL PROMOTE GROWTH. Thanks for sharing.
You are so beautiful and that accent is wonderful. I love this tut and I shared it on my Facebook page because I know some of my friends are going natural or are transitioning. I am going to try this in the winter months. People say that Florida doesn't get cold...OH YES IT DOES! No co-washing in the winter, but this looks easy enough that I can do it. Thanks!
this is an awesome tutorial, and its so much more uniform and defined that two strand twist, plus it looks like a twist out already! thanks for sharing. I will attempt this one day,But I am not sure how you tie off the ends.
Thanks for this video! I am looking for low maintenance styles I love that this lasts so long and I can do different styles with it ---the look just like twists. This takes me back to childhood although my mum would wrap the thread tighter so each piece of hair was stiff.
great tutorial. your hair looks gorgeaous. i can't wait to try it. though my hair is not as long or thick as yours, i still intend to try it. will make a good protective style. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for doing an adult version. I could not see myself at work with my hair in 12 sections and bound together as you did for your little girls. I have worn twists in the past and like that look so this fit perfectly with what I like.
Looks like a twistout before you fluff or separate, very pretty

Posting to say, it's 22 May 2022 and I am here, watching and very grateful.
Yes, you can swim with it. The thread stops it from shrinking as it would with twists. Just be careful not to manipulate too much when washing. I've put info on how I wash and maintain in the description box below the video.
Wow, this was super cute! I will definitely try it.
Never heard of this until today. I am so trying this.
very cute
great job
we are soooo blessed to have a hair texture that is sooooo versatile
Yes! The thread helps it to retain it's length, so it doesn't really shrink.
I showed this to my mum and she was really impressed! She recommended it to my Aunty who will be trying it soon!
Awesome! Let me know how your aunt gets on, if she gives it a try :). x
Kids are about to be out of school and I will have all day to work on this without having to stop and go somewhere. I hope I can make it as neat as yours.

THANKS for great tutorial!
I love your personality. you are always so happy and smiling and pleasant! lovely tutorial thank you! I will be trying this
I am so proud to be African right now! Haha
Thank you! The hairline thing is a pain. When I remember to spritz with water and seal with Jamaican black castor oil, it does actually improve. It's just with pregnancy brain, I always forget. :)

Thank you! This is a great question, which quite a few people have asked, so I've put the information in the description box, below the video, on washing and maintenance. :)
I tried twice and you make it look so easy. Mine came out ok but I will keep trying.
I like this! African threading like I've never seen it before. I will certainly be trying this!
Very skillfully executed ... gorgeous results too!
eH eH my Ghanaina sista thank you very much, I'm trying to grow out my hair from all the perms and texturizing of the past decade. Your vids a great inspiration and help, thanks - God bless

Nadine thanks for this! I tried for the first time and I'm in love with this style. I didn't think hair was long enough but it turned out so nice. I've gotten tons of compliments.
OMG, My Video...Been waiting on this for years and So Worth it. Great Style, I have to try this!!!Thank You and Congrats on The New Baby!!!!!!!!
Aww, congrats on the new little one! I truly believe you have the funniest, most informative videos on natural hair :)

I appreciate your tutorials. I work a very unpredictable schedule, so it's very hard to find time to do my daughter's hair. I will be trying these techniques for their first day of school.
Love the video! Have not had a perm in a year this month! So I found someone who works with natural hair and am looking forward to my journey!
:D Thank you! I'm glad you find the videos helpful. Yes, I used threading to grow out a perm and it worked really well.
I'm in love with this style. Thanks for demonstrating.
I have natural hair and would love to try this. I wish I knew about this when my 2 daugthers were younger. Thanks for sharing!
I tried African threading and love it! It really stretches the hair. I just have to work on not doing it too tight and perfecting my syling technique.
This looks just like twists! I'm ashamed to say I purchased thread to try something like this maybe 6-7 years ago :( ... never tried it :( ... maybe when I grow my hair back I will. Thanks so much for this vid.
Thanks for sharing. This is the first time I've seen this technique. I love it and will try it.

I am excited to this technique. Most of the I keep my hair in twists but I find I have to retwist them every so often to keep them looking neat.
I use this for my TWA, it really stretches and grows the hair and it also makes it feel soft
i love this style! i'm gonna try it on my girls! Congrats on the new baby!
I have never seen that done before, it's beautiful! I would love that style for my hair.
You are so welcome! Thank you for taking the time to watch. :)
So simple & pretty. Congratulations on your new pregnancy.
Wonderful!! I am addicted to this video. I have watched it 4 times and am not done yet. I will do this style next week and do a video response.
Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing. Congrats on your pregnancy.
This is fantastic and as long as you make a great grid of your head. You can do this yourself. Thank you.
Thank you! I got this question a lot, so I've put the information in the description box, below the video, on washing and maintenance. :)
So beautiful!!

I'm glad I found you on UA-cam. Love this tutorial. I can't wait to try it. Love your accent and your mannerism on camera. Awesome! Thanks again.
This is an amazing style. Been trying to find threading style to rock cos I want to thread my hair for the next few months. Thanks for this!!
Same!! I'm gonna have to do these during the summer. Got my thread and stuff. Lol

Awesome. ..great protective style for winter...look cute too
this is awesome and looks great. you make it look so easy, but i guess it all comes down to practice.
Great hairstyle. Many ppl praise daily scalp oiling with castor oil to thicken thin areas and promote growth ;)
Congratulations !! Nice tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Ugh your hair is so beautiful. I love this !
I love your vids and I am so glad you finally uploaded this tut.
I am def. going to try this next time I do twists.

Wow, I can't wait to try this. I have twists in right now and they're annoying me, unraveling and whatnot. Time to try this!!!

This is a very good idea. I will start doing this. Thanks.
Your skills are phenomenal, thank's for this inspiration.

Great job. I have never seen this done but I absolutely love it. I would like to try it one day. I think it would help my hair from tangling so much
Hi beautiful! Congrats on the little one on the way!!! What a blessing! Thanks for taking the time to share this info with us. Blessings...

Congrats on your new baby bump, and thanks for posting this!:)
Super impressed, you even gave it the Victoria beckham bob look! I want to try this now :)
this is an awesome tutorial, and its so much more uniform and defined that two strand twist, plus it looks like a twist out already!
thanks for sharing. I will attempt this one day,But I am not sure how you tie off the ends.
That really is a cute hairstyle!!! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely gorgeous! You did a great job on these.
I've put washing and maintenance information in the description box under the video, because I got this question a lot. :)
Gorgeous. So neat i feel inspired to start doing this on my hair
Yes I will try this.. it will hold my twist longer without coming out. My twist holds well when wet but shrinkage.
