The fact that a camera maker made this webcam explains why Brandon is hosting the video. But hey, I’m glad the footage from the camera looks good. This could be great for streamers, especially with the privacy mode if you leave the webcam plugged in.
I am not sold by the privacy mode. The issue is that if a bad actor has control of your camera, sure you would notice if you were looking at it as it would turn to look at you, but a hardware shutter would still be appreciated, in case you were not actively looking at it while the bad actor was tracking you doing something else in the room.
This seems like the perfect cameras for teachers. It can film them sitting at their desk. Top down of whatever documents they are working on by hand on their desk top. Whiteboard mode for teachers who prefer to do things by hand big. And then it includes guests in the frame. So cool. So simple.
I agree. It's a well-rounded product. I have an insta-360 one X2 that I use all the time and is simply amazing. They really know how to make a quality product with fine tuned software. What I like the most is their continued product development. Every update adds more greatness.
I can imagine this thing will be incredible for things like teachers doing virtual lessons or lawyers presenting stuff to their clients over zoom. Like in these situations even the best looking webcam they have to mess with to get it to show what they want, with this you barely have to think "are they seeing this" because you throw up a hand symbol and it just works.
The white board tracking is kinda interesting, but the peace sign and slow transition sorta ruins it(speaking as someone who taught online and in person college classes) .... BUT if the control software allows triggers from outside apps or global programmable hot keys, I could see a slightly off screen stream deck just toggling between 2 or 3 saved positions, or even a remote clicker being used
Actually really impressive and by far the best standalone webcam that I've seen. I'm sure the price might be a bit much for some, but if you're really looking for a webcam specifically, there is just nothing else that I could think of that even comes close.
Wow this is an impressive webcam. I was shocked by how smooth the tracking was, some other webcams have pretty jarring tracking. One of the few expensive webcams that I think actually earns its cost.
It looks like a really cool product, if somebody uses just 2/5 of the special features this has its totally worth it. Most people really only set and forget about their webcam though. Lockdown classes would have greatly benefitted from this.

I really want to see some unpaid, actual reviews of this thing because it really sounds like the new King of Webcams. I'm hoping it's real and will stand up to unpaid scrutiny, like some company actually listened to the multitude of complaints everyone has made during the Work from Home revolution and made a product that answers most of those complaints.
I think when Insta360 "sponsored" the video is that they just gave them the camera and asked them to talk about it. Though I could be wrong.... but at least from what I can tell from what Brandon's reactions was... i think this camera is pretty legit.
@L. G. Doesn't necessarily mean paid to praise through. I'm sure Linus has said multiple times that they do not do sponsorships for products they don't believe they would use themselves, and also do not do sponsorships where they have to promote the product. At most, insta360 will have just given them some talking points for features of the camera.
Linus has stated multiple times that just because a company pays, doesn't mean he'll leave a good review. He's reviewed items in the channel that were sponsored and has been unsatisfied with the product and made it vocal.

I did a job interview yesterday in which I talked about how getting into the tech enthusiast community has changed my perspective about hybrid learning and working. This video is such a good example of that - I wouldn’t recommend that an employer buy one of these without looking at more in-depth (and unsponsored) tests but on the surface it looks like it’d be awesome for hybrid meetings that may have presenters moving around in a conference room.
This is oddly the most excited I've gotten with a video in a while. Most are for enjoyment and laughter, But this is more for enjoyment and curiosity for me.
Even though this is sponsored, it’s hands down the best webcam image I have seen by a big margin. Crazy good! It may be pricy but if you need it a lot, damn it’s good
2:51 You dont know how happy i am that they used inches for tube sized sensors, and mm for film size, because it would have been near impossible to try to figure out the sensor size if they both used inches, or both used mm
This video is a good example of how tech blending learning and work - I wouldn't recommend that employers buy one of these without more in-depth (and unsponsored) testing, but it looks great for a blended session potentially allowing presenters to walk around
I'm commenting because I like your excitement, style, review, and I'd like you to get more exposure. Thanks for the awesome first impression of the Insta360 Link.
Impressive webcam !I was shocked at how smooth the tracking was, some other webcams have very discordant tracking. Aicoco is one of the few webcams with wonderful AI tracking
I found out the q8 has been succeeded by the q8n 4k. Now Zoom is finally up to snuff with video quality. I already got my hands on it. The SSH-6 boom mike can also be a helpful extension if I need to buy it. Best of all, it can be used as a webcam.
Insanely high price for what is likely just a smartphone camera module (often in the sub $20 range as seen on iPhone teardown), and mounted to a cheap gimbal. From the quality compared to other webcams they tested under ideal lighting, it really does look the best, basically as if you used the rear camera on a smartphone to stream. If it were $150, it would be the gold standard in modern webcams.
From all the webcams ya'll ever looked at, at LMG, this seems to be by far the best one. The picture quality is amazing for a webcam. All the features are good and not useless things you'll never use. The price is fair considering the amazing autofocus, picture quality and great feature set. Wish it had Linux support on the software side. How are settings like focus saved? If they would be saved on device and not on the host machine that would be super neat then you could still reasonably use the webcam on linux or move between pcs easily.
Sony/Canon/Panasonic/Black magic need to all get into the webcam market. Idk why it's so hard for computer hardware developers to make a decent laptop webcam.
Agree, I would not trust that privacy mode personally anyway, because software takeover would still be potential danger, I would probably install hardware switch dongle in USB slot it is connected at, to completely disconnect it when not in use.
Smart tracking, gesture recognition, deskview, whiteboard mode all included, it's perfect for streamers! This year, apart from link, I also saw another brand, aicoco, release a smart camera with similar features, both of which look great!
Holy fucking shit, this is THE webcam out there right now. Everything is intuitive and the functions actually works smoothly instead of being gimmicks, not to mention the image quality. This would've exploded during the pandemic. Dave2D dropped the ball for his overview of this product. Thank you ShortCircuit.
11:14 How do you get it portrait? Is it a Windows OBS thing? I'm using a mac mini and can't figure it out. With a normal webcam I just physically rotate it 90° and in OBS put a transform on it to rotate it correctly. I can't do this with the Link, the Gimbal corrects the orientation, lol. When I try to do it in software it says I need to do it on the streaming program but I tried in OBS and can't figure it out. I want my canvas to be in 16:9 but want my video on one side of it at 9:16, cropped a little so I can show me and what I'm working on at my desk while having chat on the other side. I'm guessing you just changed the canvas in OBS to be 9:16.
Man, I would love for this to have more options of command configurations, like voice commands, or integrate with a bluetooth controller/streamer deck, heck, they could even send you a controller with a bunch of configurable commands. That would be way better than having to stand with a strange hand sing while people are watching you hahaha
Does it have a built in green screen mode in the software like the Elgato facecam? to where you can put in a fake background without having an actual green screen behind you?
I was honestly expecting this to be 50-100% higher price than it was listed at, considering the versatility. It's low enough (yes, it's still expensive) that I could see saving up strickly to run TTRPGs for my friends. When I've spent twice this on game books, the cost suddenly doesn't seem absurd. Niche use scenario, but not as niche as it would have been pre-pandemic.
The image is outstanding for a camera that size with all that tech onboard and the mic quality, to my ears, was better than the professional mics they were using at the shoot! Very very impressive.
that tracking is really good and the mic isnt that bad either. I could definitelly see a content creator only needing it to vlog or something on the go. that being said I have not done that much research on the matter but I assume that for a stationary setup just buying a cheapo camera to use as a webcam will be the better option for most streamers
What i want to know: during gimble calibration when it's doing sweep of your entire room. Does it display video? What happens when it needs to do calibration mid-stream?
i am interested in this camera but first i want to see either some integration with elgato stream deck or a way to set up custom hotkeys/macros. it would be nice to have a couple buttons to flip between preset positions, zoom, tracking, etc.
The gestures are an interesting concept but I think personally I’d prefer to have a little button that I can hold in my hand/put on my desk to switch between modes. The whiteboard mode especially would be useful for that. You could have say one press for toggling between tracking and static. Two presses to switch between presets and if it detects a whiteboard then the two presses would toggle between your previous view and the whiteboard view. Great camera though, I only use a webcam for meetings but I still want it :P
Doesn't look like it has Windows Hello.... That being said, I've gotten used to using a Kingston Verimark USB Fingerprint scanner, which works much faster than Windows Hello so I wouldn't feel like I miss it all that much.

Taking into account that most stablished streamers use an actual camera as webcam instead of a regular webcam, this is actually perfect.
camera comes with cleaning cloth, brandon fixes his glasses. Nice
#kinectacademy needs this camera #uncleLinus #linusXtips
Brandon needs to do more camera video I love them all
Agreed 👍
That webcam footage looks gorgeous. Easily a decade ahead of all the laptop webcams you guys have reviewed.
To be honest, you probably won't find a webcam and a microphone this good that would cost less than $300 combined.
This is oddly the most excited I've gotten with a video in a while. Most are for enjoyment and laughter, But this is more for enjoyment and curiosity for me.
First webcam that actually impressed me. Props to you insta360
This is the best webcam I've seen just for the gimble and all the features and quality of life it adds
First webcam that has impressed me... it's about damn time they got good!
👆👆I have something for you
No 4K 60FPS. No wireless.
No Background remove without green screen?
11:00 Brandon : overhead view
Me : DANKPODS POV
That would be very interesting to use in an application like robotics if there is a proper API to move the gimbal around
Man, I wish some of my university professors had this during lockdown, both for the video and mic quality.
Woohoo! Camera stuff. Thanks, Brandon
Brandon is rapidly rising the charts making great content for LMG, even though it is in a specific niche. Kudos.
Healthy opinion. #cancerJEDI approved
I love Brandon being the host and explaining everything so clearly! Also; I want this now.
#cancerJEDI agrees
Wow! quality is super damn nice! Awesome review Brandon
@thewongjanice want to use this?
10:46 That automatic keystone correction feature sells it!
best video and audio quality from a webcam IMO
Sony/Canon/Panasonic/Black magic need to all get into the webcam market. Idk why it's so hard for computer hardware developers to make a decent laptop webcam.
Considering that very decent normal webcams are running about $150 right now, this thing is a freaking steal.
Stumble onto your video for this awesome Insta360. Very detail video. I am sold. Thx.
When in privacy mode the camera should turn around before facing downwards as depending on the angle it might see the keyboard.
I can see classes and therapists and streamers all over the world taking advantage of this. I want one now.
Uncle chap wants one. #kinesilogist
Engineering Explained would LOVE this. That Whiteboard feature is SICK!
This is like having a mini cameraman in your pocket , awesome!
Wow quite impressed with all the features and image quality. Even the microphones sounded cristal clear
This is super cool! I love what they are doing with this and it covers a lot of use cases as well.
This is the best review of this product-I just learned about it today. You just earned a new subscriber. Nice job and keep up the great work!
This is genuinely the most impressive webcam I've ever seen
I was honestly expecting this to be 50-100% higher price than it was listed at, considering the versatility. It's low enough (yes, it's still expensive) that I could see saving up strickly to run TTRPGs for my friends. When I've spent twice this on game books, the cost suddenly doesn't seem absurd. Niche use scenario, but not as niche as it would have been pre-pandemic.
This may be the best webcam ever made
really cool to see features ive seen in stuff like the Logitech Meetup and the Rally being implemented in such a small camera
The image is outstanding for a camera that size with all that tech onboard and the mic quality, to my ears, was better than the professional mics they were using at the shoot! Very very impressive.
I was genuinely shocked at how good those mics sound
Next level features. Nothing else even comes close.
Now this is a really good webcam with a lot of functionalities. Amazing!
Every streamer about to have one of these
that tracking is really good and the mic isnt that bad either. I could definitelly see a content creator only needing it to vlog or something on the go.
that being said I have not done that much research on the matter but I assume that for a stationary setup just buying a cheapo camera to use as a webcam will be the better option for most streamers
What i want to know:
during gimble calibration when it's doing sweep of your entire room. Does it display video?
What happens when it needs to do calibration mid-stream?
👆👆I have something for you
I'm hoping to order this tomorrow. Thanks for the video.
i am interested in this camera but first i want to see either some integration with elgato stream deck or a way to set up custom hotkeys/macros. it would be nice to have a couple buttons to flip between preset positions, zoom, tracking, etc.
I had a serious deja vu watching this video.
This camera cheap for what your getting and the quality is excellent. Love the gesture controls that's super handy never seen that before.
Great camera though, I only use a webcam for meetings but I still want it :P
webcams with remote controller are amazing
if this has windows hello, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Doesn't look like it has Windows Hello....
That being said, I've gotten used to using a Kingston Verimark USB Fingerprint scanner, which works much faster than Windows Hello so I wouldn't feel like I miss it all that much.
I love how easy this is for making vertical/horizontal video... Straight into the pc👏👏👏
Take my money! This is awesome!
Even the audio is decent. That an interesting All in One solution.
This webcam is a game changer especially with the gestures
this sounds and looks AMAZING!! 11:50
Really like the Camera! Thanks for the presentation 👍🏻 but what I like most is the cologne Cathedral at 11:36 on the TV 😊
Keep on creating that great content 🤙🏻 greetings from cologne 👋🏻
Truly a game changer for many smaller streamers out there.
This is the only webcam I would ever have and not use it just for a webcam, but I could see myself filming small projects with a gimbal little robot like that.
