    Thank you very much! My issue was the jumper pak, had some corrosion on the connectors at the bottom. Cleaned the connectors, plugged in and worked straight away.

      Awesome, it’s funny how the “expansion pack” is actually part of the base memory so the console won’t work without one haha

    Remember that with the power supply, the voltage will come up to 12 v when it has a load. It is normal that the supply voltage shows a few volts under or over when there is no load. Because there are two rails coming from the supply (12 v and 3.3 v) you will find under no load that that one rail will be lower than the spec and the other will be higher than the spec. eg 11.2 v and 3.6 v. Hope this helps

    The memory expansion cart doubles the N64's RAM memory. Originally the console would come out with a jumper pack cart which basically terminates/shorts all the "secondary" RAM lines so that only the on board memory would be used.

    *WARNING*
    When unscrewing the first 6 screws to open the console beware that the plastic threading can become impossibly fragile.
    When putting an N64 of mine back together after repair, 3 of them crumbled after the minimum pressure was applied...
    Thanks for this video and giving me the confidence to open mine up.
    Luckily my childhood console survived, though my backup console on the other hand rattles with loose plastic inside now. My confidence to continue cracking open these old consoles has crumbled along with the fragile threading.

    Mine didn't work. I thought it was the video cable because the power light came on but I couldn't get a picture, however taking the jumper pak out turning it on and off then re-inserting the jumper pak fixed it.

    my n64 has the same problem where the red light will turn on but nothing shows up on the screen. I've checked the RGB cables and they work just fine. I'll try getting a gamebit screwdriver soon and see if I can fix anything on the inside. I got this console from my older cousin, it was just sitting in his room for years so that might've taken a toll on it 😷 thank u for the video!!

    At the end you said you did something to the contact points of the power supply, did you just solder the points again? I saw that the two grounds points were connected via solder, did you break that contact point? I couldn't tell because the video was fuzzy towards the end. I ask because my N64 wont power on, I have two different AC connectors and none will work. Any suggestions?

    • @Slot1Gamer
      @Slot1Gamer  9 років тому

      John Gotti Jr I just re-worked the pins on the socket, they are usually the problem in most consoles but not this one.Do you have a multimeter? I'd check to see if power is getting to the main board, there are test pads on the main board for the different voltages, also check the power switch and reset..

  • @IIDoratus

    Thanks for making this video. I have an odd problem with my Nintendo 64. I get clear sound, and the system plays games just fine, however it seems to have color issues. It's like the picture comes out nearly black and white, but has a bit of color...it's like the colors are extremely faded and unsaturated. Tried cleaning the carts and cleaned the cart slot with qtip and Windex, did not help. The console looks extremely dirty and I ordered a Gamebit from Ebay so I can open 'er up and give it a good cleaning. If the issue still isn't resolved after cleaning it, where should I pay attention to in the system to try and fix this?

    • @Slot1Gamer
      @Slot1Gamer  9 років тому +1

      IIDoratus ok two things, is the console the same region as your TV?
      Second the DAC or the video output could be shorting out get some isopropyl alcohol and give the board a good clean

    • @IIDoratus
      @IIDoratus 9 років тому

      Slot1Gamer Thank you for replying :)
      Yes the console is the same as my TV (NTSC). I have already cleaned the board of dust. Should I clean the legs of the DAC chip itself even though they look spotless?

    • @Slot1Gamer
      @Slot1Gamer  9 років тому

      If the board looks clean don't worry. check the AV jack and cable

    • @IIDoratus
      @IIDoratus 9 років тому

      Slot1Gamer I've used different ones for both. Hasn't solved anything. I'm thinking of buying a multimeter and checking to see if some caps are dying.

    Trying to resurrect a Nintendo 64, that's been up in my attic for about 10 years. I took it apart and cleaned all the connections with Iso Alcohol. Surprisingly the board and fitting looked good. I re-soldered the Power connection, and Multi AV port connections to make sure the unit has fresh solder to complete the electrical connections. Now i got the unit to power on, and i have sound but NO picture? Any idea why ?
    Also i have another N64 in good working order, that i have hooked up the the same power supply and cables and it works perfect so i know its not the power brick or cables.
    Is there a certain section of the N64 board i can jump out / or re-solder to test for picture?

      helpboy3000 Yeah, Isopropyl is recommended (try to get 90%+, you don't want too much water.. I use 100%).. You can also buy PCB cleaner that comes in a spray can, works really well for cart connectors :).. Do some basic troubleshooting first ofcource hehe, most common is the jumper pack is loose :D

      The n64 outputs 240p NTSC or 288p PAL new TVs don't accept 240p NTSC or 288p PAL they accept 480i NTSC or 576i PAL higher resolutions 90s gaming consoles output 240p NTSC or 288p PAL instead of 480i NTSC or 576 PAL certain games output 480i NTSC or 576i PAL

      panda sniper100 Hi, check the edge connector (the gold pins) on the video plug on the back of the console. they may just be dirty. Use a Qtip and some rubbing alcohol to clean them. Also check the pins inside the square end of the n64 AV cable too

      Slot1Gamer holy shit sup man. Basically I dug up my n64 to play but this time it didn’t turn in like it usually does. I took it all apart and cleaned it up good with rubbing alcohol, but it’s still just the red light on but no video or sound. I think I got a hookup from a friend to use their cords to test it out again, but any recommendations for what else I can do?
