Hope you enjoy it and dont forget to chuck us a like & subscribe :)
I bought one of these but the guys who gave me it never bothered to tell me I needed a pack. Thanks for telling me this
You dont you only need it for certain games
@@markusmitchell8585 You still need a jumper pak/rambus terminator if you don't have a memory expansion.
@@markusmitchell8585you always need a pack for the n64 but the red one is only for some games
Very well-produced, and good tips! I've used a lot of them in the past and know they work.
However, my N64 seems to randomly reset on top of having unreliable boot-up (light on, no signal). I remember that being an issue back when I boxed it up long term, but now it's worse than ever. I've cleaned both the jumper and the game pack, and that gets me up to maybe 30 minutes of game play before it resets.
I had one that was doing that, one of the thermal pads under one of the heat sinks was bunched up and not covering the chip well. After reapplying the pad(best would be to get new thermal pads) and thoroughly cleaning the system I have not had the problem. So it could be heat related, the connection of the power adapter is loose or dirty, or faulty capacitors from what I've dug up. Hope this helps
my n64 after like 30 minutes the audio goes horrible and it goes laggy
Ive had that exact same console growing up as a kid and still have it today! It was in pretty bad shape and wasn't working right. so i finally deccide to fix it. It takes a decent amount of time trying to get a game running but once its going its fine. I feel the problem could be the memory pack not connecting right. Great video!
U dont have that console its Pokémon n64
Great tips overall, thanks for the video!. However I have a nitpick, I would never recommend blowing in carts. I am a firm believer that it accelerates corrosion and/or the growth of bacteria. But I'm old school and still use brasso, then a healthy dose of isoprop on the pins. I've repaired 3 n64s with no signal just by applying isoprop to a cart's pins (a lower value one with a full set of pins is best) then inserting/removing a few times, then swiping the pins with a cottonswab to remove dirt. Repeat until no more black on the pins. Cleans the console's pins really well without damaging anything.
As a retrogamer (43 yo) and a GameBoy modder I have to say I never had any problems with blowing into cartridges.
I have 30 years old Japanese and EU Games, no corrossion on any of them. Blowing into it solves 99% of possible problems which is dust on the contacts. :)
On the paper, you're absolutely right, but after years od working with retro consoles, experience tells me that blowing (unless somebody is spitting in instead of lightly blowing) won't cause problems but often solves it. :)
Of course, I use IPA to clean all my games when I get them, I also replace old batteries, but after that, if it doesn't work 1 in 10 Times, blowing solves it.
Thanks! It worked on my N64, I watched a few other videos and nothing seemed to work. But your tips helped so much. Appreciate the advice 😊👍
Thanks for the cleaning tips, lots of my games take forever to get going despite heaps of blowing!
You’re welcome! Definitely try some metho on a q tip, should do it a treat 🙂
I have the same issue, too. With some of my favorite games, they run for a few seconds and then freeze or crash ☹️
I cleaned the jumper pak, the cartridge, everything, and the light is on, but it is still not working! Please help
Me too
Same :(
have you tried multiple games it could just be a bad game
Same issue
@@kevinneal5350 I js got a new one tbh
I dropped my 64 and thought it was broken bc it wouldn’t turn on, until I found this video i realized that my jumper pak was just dirty haha thankyou!
Hi going to give this a go as games keep freezing during game play on both of my n64 thanks for the tip will let you know how it goes ❤❤❤
So how did it go
Love your video you get to the point unlike other people! Thank you so much...
Thank you so much 🥰 I was scared mines didn’t work lol
Hi, thanks for the tips and tricks. Quick question, does the cartridge slot connector ever need replacing? or is there a way of pulling the pins out for better connectivity? TIA
Good info! Cleaning expansion worked. Thank you
We just bought one but it isnt getting a picture. We tried everything but just noticed there was no jumper pack in the console!
Where are you guys at? I need my Nintendo fix. It won't switch over at all. 🥺
Awesome video Thank-you. I have the exact same console. I've been wanting to start playing N64 games again and dug out my console, however even though its a bit dusty ive given it a good clean, used your tips for the metho spirits and cotton-tips, cleaning both cartridge and expansion pak. The N64 has power and game goes to start but 2 seconds after turning on, the picture will freeze - This happens across multiple games. I'm using this on a small flatscreen so don't know if this should cause any problems, no different parts have been used - So I'm hoping this shouldnt be on it's way out ='(
Random reset issue.
Fires up fine then after 10 seconds or so will reset itself, what is the fix.
You guys got replacement power cables? - I feel like I've got a dud as there's not little red light or reaction (My second N64 lights up just fine) Also been meaning to pay you guys a visit in store!
Yeah mate we sure do! You can purchase them online and in store 🙂
Mine worked with zero issues for like 25 years I was playing with it last year then moved out of my parents. When I went to visit my parents again I turned the n64 on and no light. First time In 25 years my n64 doesn’t boot.
My cartridges all have been cleaned with isopropyl 99%, and the slot has too, but I’m having unreliable cartridge reading issues. It only boots up correctly when the cartridge is inserted in a particular position. When the cartridge is read correctly there is intermittent high brightness happening on startup that gets automatically corrected by my retrotink. I’m on s-video.
Thank you for the tips! I tried my N64 for the first time in 2 years and it wouldn’t work. Cleaning the jumper pak did the trick. Thank you!!
I have the exact console, been put up for years but i plugged it in to try it and all i get is a static screen and static sound ? Could it be a bad cable?
Thank you, cleaning my expansion pack was the fix for me👌
Congrats on 10k orders ❤
the expansion pack upgrades the RAM from 4mb to 8mb
Isopropyl is what everyone recommends, this is the first I’ve heard of not using strong alcohol. I heard the opposite, low %s contain water which will corrode.
Where are you guys located? Love to bring my n64 for a troubleshoot. I’m near Sydney. Cheers!
You don't blow on electrical components because, even if you can't see them, there are little particles of saliva that can produce oxidation on the metal pieces. The tip of cleaning with cotton tips and isopropyl alcohol is on point. For the receptor parts, you can use paper. Plain old paper that you put in a printer. Works wonders!
Happy Birthday to the Game Experts for yesterday :)
But why do you have to plug those things into the back?
Thank you. That worked
i love the intro
Any ideas for random reset problem?
I'm here with same question, yet you've asked two months ago and nobody has replied to you.
@@mattsmedley.onehandedgamin9029 I saw an answer once after 5 years xD
clean or replace the reset button, replacing requires finding a replacment and soldering it. I've read people reporting this issue and how they fixed it.
My concel starts up an after a few seconds it freezes with certain games
So just got an n64 today and it's just flickering the video on and off constantly, using a basic av to hdmi converter
I just recently got my Nintendo 64 out from storage, I really feel like playing GoldenEye after having not played it in very very long time. However, I noticed that my 24 year old game system would play for a little bit, but then it would freeze or start glitching up and then just freeze and not work. I'm just wondering if anyone has had this issue and if so, could it be an issue with the expansion pack or is it something more internal? I'd like to save my system I just don't know how
I have bought 4 shark pads on ebay. None of them work on auto fire. Any ideas😊
I bought a used n64 as-is. Nothing is showing up on screen. It has a power light, i havw cleaned all the things youve said. What i do notice is that when i power it on, it makes a high pitch signal sound. When i take the jumper pak out and turn it on, it does not make the high pitch sound. The jumper pack pins look clean and undamaged. What do you think?
all wires are in power light illuminates, but games aren't starting up what do i do?
Mine Freezes and doesn’t boot up properly, also a hissing sound
Does anyone know what can cause a n64 to randomly freeze up? I think my childhood system may be ready to kick the bucket. Multiple games I try all freeze about 3-5 minutes into playing them. Hoping there is a simple fix.
Same here. Havent’t found the issue.
Did you clean the machine and cartridgeses like shown?
I've done cleaning & tried changing the jumper pak, but still freezing when playing the N64, maybe I have to replace all the capacitors on the N64 board.
Yes! I'm having the same exact issue like literally, about 5 minutes into game playing and then it will just freeze and glitch and stopped working. I'll try putting in another game, it does the same thing. I thought maybe it was the expansion pack or something, can anyone confirm what the issue is? I really don't want to have to get a new system I like my old one from when I was a kid
Lol those prices for the Gameboy carts.
U saved me thank u 🎉
What if I’ve cleaned the game and expansion pack and still not working??
I dug my system out after 25 years. Give or take. My Roku TV has the AV out plugs plus the HDMI etc. Every time I plug it in even my superintendent that I just dug out as well with a 64, lake few minutes ago after I clean all the ports this time around making sure I cover all my pieces. I was playing WrestleMania 2000 and throughout the game I lose signal. It was like that couple of times before I try to clean the ports. Real good, and about a HDMI adapter. Adapter and doesn't seem like it works cuz I plugged it in normally and I got a signal but only for a minute or 5 minutes till it loses signal and I think my super Nintendo does something similar or not at all. Any suggestions? I have the original expansion pack , if I remember I believe my Wii that I dug out works. I kind of don't want to purchase new consoles that actually work because seems like they do but just no signal. It's losing signal and the HDMI part doesn't seem like it works and the adapter is new and is plugged into a power source
Mine still isn't working 😭
I recently plugged my N64 in and it was running fine for the first game until I hit the reset Butten. Then a pop noise happened then I couldn't get any display even after falling all the cleaning steps. As well as try several games. I feel like I broke my old system.
I’m in the same boat, did you get it fixed?
well done video
Any tips console turns on and takes me to title screen, but telling me no controller detected, any tips
Mine froze after one minute. Frozen image. What can that be?
Happy birthday big dogs
So what if you do all of the above but the console is still not producing a picture?
Maybe new av wires?
Can you help me? My N64 won't display on my CRT tv and it powers on. I've tried cleaning the game, the pins, and the jumper Pak. The av cable is oem but the power supply is aftermarket.Maybe it's the power supply causing the issue
same too. Did you manage to find the fix?
@@JonathanNgu Unfortunately, I couldn't find what was causing the problem so I ended up buying another one
Update: turns out,it was the third party power supply and now I have two n64
Where are you in Australia??
Reservoir melbourne
Oh right... my n64 is fucked then
Omg dont blow into your carts thats so bad. I learned absolutly nothing
I think of my jumper pack died sad face
"Quick tips and tricks" bro this video is 11 minutes long
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP WHY IS MY GAME PAK NOT BEING RECOGNISED? I bought a new pak, a new controller and still not working, I’m trying to play Pokémon blue on there, I’ve got Pokémon gold on the way incase it’s the game
