    1. Get enough sleep.
    2. Have a goal and just do it.
    3. Surround yourself with people who motivate you.
    4. Take breaks. Use the pomodoro technique.
    5. Make sure you eat right. Pick what you're gonna eat before you get hungry.
    6. Turn your goal into a habit.
    7. Break your day into smaller tasks.
    8. Start on a monday.

    I think the biggest point to make with motivation is not to rely on it. If you want change you need discipline, to do it regardless of how you feel (obviously not if sick). Motivation is a feeling that comes and goes but you can always rely on discipline.

      +xisumavoid Very good point! Would love to see how "discipline" versus "motivation" enables us to engage in healthy, beneficial, productive behaviors and if one is indeed "better" than the other or if you need a balance of both.

      +xisumavoid True. I often have episodes of depression where I can't even find the motivation to get out of bed. I've learned that forcing myself to do something productive during those times actually shortens the amount of time I'm depressed, because if I just let my To Do list pile up I feel even worse but if I accomplish something while I feel like crap, I feel better about myself. I keep telling myself that I physically can do things, it's just that my brain doesn't want me to.

    I hate school, well in all honesty, I don't. I hate homework. I feel like I work double the amount everyone else does bc I try to make it really nice, and I go slow. So an essay can take 2 1/2 hours, even though I'm good at English .

    I learned out how to make good MAD goals. Not MAD as in the emotion, its stands for Measurable, Attainable, and Dead-line driven. Here's an example of a MAD goal, I want to read 100 pages of my book by the end of the week. Its measurable (you are able to do it), attainable (you can do it every day) and is dead-line driven (want to read 100 pages by end of the week). An example of a bad MAD goal is, I want to read 500 pages of my book. Here are reasons why its a bad goal, (1) in the goal it didn't state when you wanted to read 500 pages by, and (2) you probably aren't going to do it once you start.
    I wanted to share this because I learned it in one of my critical thinking and study skills class and its one of the more interesting things I've learned in that class.

    • @RaheemD
      @RaheemD 8 років тому +31

      +balpreet kaur I think that's to do with sleep cycles, we have like 4 hour periods of sleep or something. Basically, if u got 4 hours of sleep you'd feel more alert than if you got 5 hours of sleep because you hadn't finished the next 4 hour cycle. So maybe you wake up in a mid cycle and might need to change when u wake up or go to sleep?

    • @101bluenight
      @101bluenight 8 років тому +26

      +Issy Make an essay outline, like all the topics, subtopics, proofs and stuff. Once you have that, you basically have your whole essay but shortened down, now make those points into sentences, add transition sentences, starter words etc. And when you proof read it, which make sure you do, read it out loud, that will be your best friend in this case.
      I really hope I helped a bit, because I know how it feels, I had an essay due the Monday back from break.

    For number four, I do things a touch differently. Instead of having scheduled breaks, I work for as long as I can handle. I personally start blanking out when I've worked for too long, so rather than taking a break with something like going on my phone, listening to music, or watching a show, I do a mundane task that requires no thought. Making my bed, putting laundry to wash, or even going for a short walk are all physical things that don't really require me to think, so my mind gets a little rest, but I'm still doing something productive so I don't feel like I just wasted ten minutes doing nothing.

    For the first month of 2017, I had lost ALL motivation to do schoolwork. I was starting homework an hour and a half after I got home, I did homework assignments on the bus ride to school the day they were due, and sometimes I just didn't finish them. I was going to sleep WAY too late every night and was constantly tired. I didn't care. I've decided to turn myself around and do my homework RIGHT after I get home, I'm getting enough sleep, and I'm actually really proud of myself. If you're in a similar situation as I am, I suggest turning yourself around, it really pays off.

      you can die by taking too much vitamin A (like eating a polar bear's liver) but overdosing other vitamins are not deadly.

      spread your goal into bite size chunks! such as he said you might want to work on your studying then devote one hour into that take a break and move onto the other task. Repeat this and make it a habit

    I use Sundays to start my week (mentally) as I usually have that day off work and that makes it easier for me to focus on new habits and projects. The eating right and getting enough sleep thing I'm still working on. And I like the tip for creating habits to accomplish things like saving money! Thanks for the video guys.

    Something that helps me stay motivated is listening to music while i do homework. Yes, sometimes this can be counterproductive if I'm working on a subject that requires a lot of focus, but if it's for one of my easier courses, music helps me stay focused and motivated. And if I'm lying around trying to get myself to start working, I'll often remind myself that if I start working, I get to listen to music which is always fun.

    My New Year's resolution is to be more productive. Part of my motivation for that is writing down what I need to do in a day the night before, rather than just saying, "Oh! I have to remember to do that tomorrow." It's also a bit of a reward when everything is crossed off.

  • @java2guava

    Some of my resolutions:
    1. Wake up and stay up at 6:00 am. Get one productive task done in the morning before work.
    2. Improve work-life balance. At the moment, I do not have any hobbies that I pursue on a consistent basis. I attribute this to my "crazy work schedule" but I know I could do a better job. So my specific task is to involve better accountability (e.g. sign myself up classes in sports/music/fitness). I struggle with accountability a lot because many of my close friends do not live near me; ergo, there are not a lot of people I can coerce (I mean convince) to be my accountability partner in hobbies I want to pursue. #workingonit.
    Thanks, guys! Very appropriate video for the new year! :)
