To clear up any confusion I don't min-max 100% in these videos. I try to find a balance between my own fun and making the most of the game mechanics. ALSO I choose to play 'kinda' historical because I enjoy that more.

Its a LONG video again. Feel free to hop around with timestamps
Hi.
I know these play through are a lot of work but I would love to see a Soviet one. I have never played them because I don’t know how.
@@picklesusa3449 I have no idea how Soviet Union should be played in Hoi4 as I never played it in a HOI game but I know the real life, historical counterpart of that nation. As such, you should probably refuse to purge Red Army (that would only kill your best generals). Also, build up your army many years before Barbarossa. Your objective is to hold strategic places, such as Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad until winter helps you. When opportunity represents itself, make counterattacks....and try to start your counterinvasion towards Berlin ASAP. Also, before the war, build up your industry...preferably short ways east of Leningrad-Moscow-Stalingrad line (because if Germany captures that line, you will lose anyway). These are the decisions I would make if I was not even a gamer but I was in Comrade Stalins boots for real 80 years ago. I hope these tips help your gameplay.
The naval game single handedly manages to be the most fun mechanics in HoI4 and the most useless one at the same time. What a performance.
Navy is not useless tho
@SJ-xb7lg sorry did you say something, my air plane engines are too loud I think?
@@HydelixSorry, what did you say? My battalion commander's screaming over the radio.
One of the truest sentences of all time

Feedback, its a GREAT idea do to this form of guide, not only with Germany, but with all the majors (a minors too btw, excluding generic focus tree), it's an amazing way to attract new players into the game, Hoi4 looks a little bit too complex for a lot of new players, so guides like this make them feel more confident on their first 2-3 runs
When you run out of steel you can refit the ships to just use the shipyards for something. Also you can upgrade tanks to reduce steel usage when you have good stockpiles.
Underrated comment
You asked AND I shall deliver
Lets gooo
Hope to see you do Holy (Pope) Roman Empire.
Hi.
This series is incredibly helpful for knobheads like me, keep going 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I find my fleets perform better if I split a death stack up into a few really small patrols for each region on always engage and then the rest on one or two reasonably sized strike force groups on always engage. Patrols find ships quick with huge bonuses for when the strike forces arrive. They don’t have fleet size issues either.
100% very true. Death stacking has massive penalties
I love how at some point during the recording process he just decided f"ck it iam not gonna edit this
Now it's a series
Ha this was recorded a hour ago. Trust me this was never going to have much editing
You literally read my mind, I was just looking for your latest content on Italy since I wanted to give it a go again and I haven't touched it in a long time, and then this popped up, AND its a long video, it's like Christmas came early this year lol.
This is exactly the type of videos I prefer! Keep up the great work
Some really useful info about updates, thanks! And as always very enjoyable too.
Love your Hoi4 videos Dave, the more/longer the better❤
22:44 Italy actually can have recon, its unlocked in the colonial management tab.
Lets gooo i was hoping you would make another Italy playthrough after this Dlc i appreciate this.
Maybe I missed it, but one thing of note is that there is a focus under develop Libya (I think its called Petrolibya Society) that adds a shitton of oil production in Libya. Not enough to run a huge fleet or something but it helps ALOT.
EDIT: I was wrong.. spent too much time playing R256. There is still an oil focus in BBA but it's not AS good.
Thank you. I love game playthroughs like this. Makes for some of the best videos 😊
I still believe that the navy game is "over hated". I feel like it has gotten more love recently but I still see many people utterly hating it. I must admit I really like it, especially late game. Because at some point you have such a powerful navy that you can blow any US or UK fleet out of the sea, I particularly enjoy the axis navies.
I enjoy navy but if your country doesn't start with a sizeable fleet already there is no point investing in it. Also the navy UI is kind of a clusterfuck.
Just an FYI to people wanting to use this guide, it’s actually quite important to hold onto the African territories because if you let the Balance of Power tick against Mussolini for too long you will get in a civil war
Thats why I always make subjects in africa, so I dont need to worry about it
To be honest this guide is pretty bad. I play without even trying hard, by 1938, I already formed the Roman empire. Not even using exploits.
First, win war on Ethiopia, while declaring on Romania. Then declare on Romania which brings France and Yugoslavia on. Win against France fair and square while declaring on UK. Remove navy from Mediterranean sea. Italy and france navy are enough to get superiority on English channel. Win against allies. Roman empire.
@@PhilipposACosta sure, you can do that. But it's extremely lame (imho, you can obv. play how you want) to fight a war against a major in HOI4 before WWII starts. The game is just not balanced around it.
But obv. it's the most efficient way, but I don't like it at all. In the End its a WWII game for me.
@@PhilipposACosta yeah dude you’ve just explained a cheese strat which is fine don’t get me wrong, but Feedback said he’s doing it historically which means waiting for Danzig. Though there were definitely some focus choices which were questionable i.e not going for Northern Industry/Danieli Industrial Concern and not getting the two 35 day mils focus immediately
I mean I could do that. But I wanted to have fun. So I chose fun ☺️
One thing I found out is that Italy has such weak Generals because they give you the opportunity to create your own. By the time WW2 began, one of my generals had Organizer, Infantry Expert, Trickster, Mountaineer, and 5 Attack.
I love watching people try max playthroughs since there are so many interesting approaches
Nice Video, thanks =)
Feedback, this is all I've ever wanted! Just an up to date, deep guides on how countries are played. Please keep this series up (if it is gonna be a series, hopefully)
love the longer vids!
10:10 there is the saying that Italian soldiers are fierce fighters if they don't have anywhere to flee.
Lions led by Donkeys
imho refitting is worth, especially for screens & subs as the refitting is quite cheap for them, and depending on how much you replace/add have already quite high completion (changing engines or armour will cost a lot, adding/upgrading AA cost little) meaning they aren't stuck forever in dry dock, just put the maximum number of shipyards and shit out better ships than what you start with
they also don't require additional resources so if you're strapped for resources, and need a navy, refitting is better than building new ships and those you have are at least more efficient in combat
capital ships are a different ask, and will depend on your shipyard capacity plus the cost of the refit versus building a new ship of the desired characteristics
so for a nation with a large navy (FR/UK/US/JP for ex), refitting is probably worth it to minmax your navy, plus to save on naval XP, can stick auto upgrade on so that every couple of upgrades to AA/torps/guns/sensors you stick ships in refit and get better ships
the main downside to doing refits is that you have ships on downtime, and needs micro as you have to select every individual ship you want to refit and manually select the refit design you want, and you can't delete unused designs so if you use auto upgrade, prepare to wade through dozens of refit designs on a single hulll
I love when Dave has fun!
Mr Feedback thank you once more. I was looking to branch out into other countries except Germany and you've yet again made EXACTLY what I was looking for
Youre insane bro!
Yes!! Thanks Dave
When you set up your naval invasions, did you split your fleet into strike groups or just leave it as a death stack? Even if you can maintain naval supremacy, you're limited in number of simultaneous invasions based on your number of separate groups assigned to invasion support, because each strike group needs to escort your invasion convoys en route to the LZ. I learned this one the hard way the first time I decided to fight Japan "historically" as the Free American Empire. I had my transport tech maxxed, with a full army of Marines all set to island hop, six brigades to an island. I had the supremacy, but I got to watch my single fleet run one invasion and then move on to the next until I split it and each force picked an invasion to support.
Death stack
Before I even finished watching this video, I ordered the physical copies from Amazon! So excited to hear there will be a fourth.
We want more long videos Dave!
Always fun to watch these types of videos. I don't think I have seen you mess with many of the mods for HOI4. Do you consider them less fun or and get less interaction from viewers with them?
Bit of both. Mods get less views and I find a lot of hoi4 mods a drag
@@DaveFeedBackGaming Figured as much and a lot more unpredictability. Can't exactly play "historical" mode for most mods lol
Being able to use my navy xp to speed up research is one of my favorite things.
@DaveFeedBackGaming I'd love to see a video on the government in exile mechanics just because I still have no idea how it works.
This is good
Ive been trying to use this as a guide to try and complete a Mare Nostrum world domination and i just dont know how to navigate italy through: not joining the axis and trying to compete with the allies in the med, can honestly say its been one of the most fun things ive done in HOI4 as its so hard with having to compete with the 3 different factions as getting pressured from every side normally beats me around 1944, around 10 different saves since boxing day and im getting closer but not quite there yet!
Praise Feedback
Nice 😊

Wait dave you have covid ?
Aorry to hear that hope you get better soon 😢
refitting is only ever good if you're doing it to add better stats to your older ships if they are already viable. if you have an industry that can support that kind of refit then it's worth it but only if you have industry 4 and you have the spirit for naval refitting. The newest DLC makes the southern american countries a little op in that regard for navy. The only other time it's worth it you should do it for the detection and hit chance
I think it's a net loss in 90% of cases. The only exception is upgrading fire control and radar
Nah. Unless you're NOT refitting armor or engines, so long as you have a plan it's always worth it. Destroyers and cruisers are especially great for this as you can specialize them into several roles (ASW, scouting patrols and even mine laying which is criminally underatted) with very little investment.
@@MundaneThingsBackwards the thing about mine laying is it causes a lot of lag in MP and refitting your carriers is a must because most of the time when you start it’s not that expensive. Max is 180 days to add radar engine level 3 and a hangar with some AA to your carriers that you start with.
@@MundaneThingsBackwards engine refit and armor doesn’t take that long. Battleships are the only one it’s not worth it on unless you’re downgrading for speed.
Hi! Can you please explain how in your opinion weather should affect battles? And IF its even neccesery as it would probably force to play on x1. Just what are your thoughts?
Right nów nobody cares about weather (except for roleplaying, right?)
weather mostly matters when it turns your conditions muddy, never attack through mud. Usually youll notice that a battle isnt going well and you can just check if the tile is muddy and if so you just hold your attack. Other than that mud can also form when theres an excess of water due to melting snow, which is another way to avoid it.
Can you make video on Super Battleship vs Battleship vs Battlecruiser?
Two Italian generals go round the outside, round the outside (Ethiopian war).
1 hour of juicy content? dont mind if i do!
Can u play with bigger hud so I can see it better on my smaller screens? Other wise I loved the video
Noted for future
"You never gonna have big enough fleet to defeat England" - says noone with decent naval skill.
Basically all you need to do is to refit your big ships and add better guns into empty slots and you can defeat english starting fleet.
DDs that you make is probably the worst possible way to use your dockykards (especially if you use those DDs for big combat)
Other than that there is so many thing you should do better if this is to be guide, I will not point them all, but one is really wrong.
You add artillery to your marines which basically removes most of their marine bonus for invasions. Outcome is that this division actually has less soft attack (when invading) compared to pure marines and is more expensive. You should add only support artillery.
Hei Feedback! I have a question: why didn't you create a puppet state in Ethiopia and spared yourself the tedious occupation? During the Peace Conference I also ask for resources rights on rubber 😁
If you let puppet Ethiopia to manage all its cores you can proclaim Africa Orientale Italiana (AOI) as soon as you unlock the decision through the focus tree 😊
Yes
Plz keep going min max all new meta
36:22 Michael Scott quotes? Almost
yes video now I can improve and git gud as the people say
how did you get the peace conference for ethiopia? I have by blood alone so maybe its that but I never get the conference and it shows that im fighting the UK but they are never called in.
Kinda late but the reason why you don't get the peace conference after capitulating Ethiopia because Haile Selassie left the country and setup a government in exile.
To prevent Haile Selassie from leaving you have to capitulate the Ethiopian before they finished the "Boarding The Train" focus.
don't need to put all ships into reserve before merging them right?
i dont understand where does gibraltar get his suply from and cant you just intercept that and starve or is it fixed suply becuase of the harbor cant just mass bomb that to capture it ?
Supply comes from the other side. It's dumb I know
Been playing this over the free steam weekend and I'm watching this video like where the fuck is that? How come I can't find that? Lol a weekend is not enough with this game.
I would like to see the full version with no edeting same for the germany videpo
So Dave, how's the keybind issue coming along?
Ha, it's not
@@DaveFeedBackGaming PDX plz
Cool
I still don't know why they don't put the option for refitting the ships you get from peace deals
Fun fact about Italy: The reason why they sucked in WW2 is because they weren't ready. In May of 1939 when the Pact of Steel was signed, Mussolini told Hitler that he would be ready for war in 1942. Hitler, then ignored this and went in 4 months later.
So the reason why Italy feels weak in this game is because they are.
Idk if there are any other One Piece watchers/readers here, but it's really important that Dave's pretty much RP prononcuation of "hot key" is basically the just "Haki" 🤯

Why didn't you just puppet ethiopia at the victory menu? You can still take that national focus you wanted
ok so i tried playing italy and my entire navy was wiped out instantly. literally the entire navy. i had 0 ships. in my navy. and then my troops, my well-supplied troops that outnumbered the north african british divisions, while simultaneously having better attack, breakthrough, and defense than said garrisons, were completely unable to push and then were effortlessly counterattacked past benghasi. then at some point they auto-assigned to another frontline and left east libya unmanned. to reiterate on the british divisions, they were undersupplied, as opposed to my fully organised and supplied divisions. even worse, in tunisia, my infantry divisions were pushed back by french motorised divisions with LEGITIMATELY no supply. there wasn't even an orange bar, it was just blank underneath organisation. in the Mediterranean, the maximum supremacy i got was just below 7000. the allies had between 22000 and 25000. how am i supposed to do anything against that???? i am going fucking insane. what am i even doing wrong??????
Min maxed?
dk if this is a dumb question but i never know why, as like italy or france or japan or something, people never invade iran or iraq at the start to just be set on oil and not have to waste civs on building synthetic factories. theres really no reason not to, i guess the only thing you could say is you maybe lose some pp justifying or rhat you lose some equipment or manpower, but its generally negligible. in the case of iraq, where the oil goes to the uk, just puppet them and take their oil, pretty sure it overrides the uks oil rights there. in my 1400 hours playing this game, i have not once seen someone warly war an oil nation as a major, just to he set for oil and not have to trade for it. and its not like those nations are ever in danger of getting invaded, except for maybe iran by the soviets, but thats not until like ‘42
I believe it is cause it is considered cheesy to invade countries non historically and except for France it is hard to reach them, and if you are gonna cheese might as well go all the way and early invade the USA or England and then USA I could be wrong but this is why I think that people do not invade the middle east
Also the reason in SP that people build synthetics is to get rubber especially as axis but in MP, i dunno.
It's memey, that's all. The same as Germany invading Dutch early strategy to get resources.
And also, Iraq was under British protection IRL but not shown in the game because it sucks lol.
Ha I am not the only one who just passed covid I had covid for the 4th time last week
No mines Dave, I am disappointed.

Your naval invasion on Malta didn't fire because you weren't at war with the UK, lol
every time i follow one of these fucking tutorials he omits/forgets to say something extremely rudemantary, like how many mils on artillary, two in the begining and says "thats fine" and proceeds with an ARTILLARY BASED ARMY, completely forgetting to say "oh yeah btw, you should probably add more mils to that production"... EVERY time he forgets something, and its almost game breaking, u kinda have to dig yourself out of whatever grave he accidentaly built you and hope to god his strategy is good enough for it to work...

Dunno if yohmu have done it, but still just wanna throw it out there. If you want your navy to actually engage and fight the enemy fleet put it on always engage, that way it won't retreat mid fight if you don't want it to (retreating doesn’t allow ships to deal damage though they will take damage), if your gonna do this either turn on automatic split off for repairs or put the fleet on never repair, other wise if a heavy ship or even destroyer gets enough damage it will automatically start repairing those ships and won't allow ANY (atleast that how I remember) ships to give supremacy. If you just want to give supremacy just put it on never engage, it won't actually fight the enemy fleets, meaning unless the naval bombers do enough damage the enemy forces may get enough naval supremacy to either just stop you naval invasions or get enough for them to naval invade, however if you have a big enough fleet in a port they can't bomb (port strike, either getting air supremacy or using interception will stop, don't know for sure which will work better) then you should still get supremacy and might be enough to naval invade where you need.
Also just want to put this as well: I saw a video, back during the beta, that the best CARRIER naval bombers (dunno about normal naval bombers) were ones using the armor piercing bombs, not torpedoes. Dunno if that still applies, or if it does to the normal naval bombers but that is what I remember.
Additionally, if you want to invade America, invade from greenland-iceland-newfoundland(?) and then use newfound land as a staging ground for an invasion into North America, whether that be invade along the US through naval invasions, or (I think) there is a pass from newfound land (or whatever the island right next to Canada is) into Canada so that is an option, though expect a death stack of troops on that crossing.
