- One of my favorite sabaton songs, Night Witches, along with one of star wars its most iconic bomber, the Y-wing.

I think most people don't realize how useful the Y-Wing's gun turret really is (or at least should be).
roadburp something I remember in lore, was while they got rid of the gunner seat to prevent decompression if the bubble was damaged, the pilot could still operate the turret from the cockpit. Wonder where that was for Gold Squadron?
samuel hayden Well, the issue is iirc the Ion cannons didn’t work on all but 2 of the Y-wings at Yavin. Also, the BTL-S3 (which was more common, even though we haven’t seen them in any movies yet) did still have a gunner, it was the A4s they fixed the Ion cannons in place
Gives me the same kind of vibes as the P-61 Black Widow's top-mounted remote gun. Could either be gunner-controlled, or locked forward for more full-frontal firepower. Also, fun fact, the ARC-170's were heavily influenced by the P-61.

If you look at this comment then know that only now, after watching the Malevolence arc for so many times, I only just realized that the clones in the background are jumping like they're crazy. Just watch from 0:00 to 0:05 and look at the clones inside the hangars as the Y-wings depart.

Sad that they didn´t use the bomb again in clone wars.
Like the Super Tank or the Malevolence on the CIS Side. Palpi don't want this super Weapons. They would finish the Clone War to fast and maybe not how he plans.
Y wings are seen commonly through the clone wars as the republics main bombers. If there is bombing support, it is from a y wing

@@Raju-cu4xe oh that makes a bit more sense. Thanks for pointing that out. Also the reason it isn’t used again is explained in extended lore, it’s expensive and leaves a form of radiation on the field that makes the sensors that are used in every day life faulty while in the area.
We may not have seen physical bomb used again afterward, but we have seen an ion/heavy firepower one-two punch weapon developed in Legends: The Aggressor Class Destroyer. This massive dual-barreled gun with engines would fire off an ion cannon followed by a plasma cannon. This would result in large targets being disabled then severely damaged if not obliterated. The weapon's long range meant it could be used for planetary bombardment without the need of a bomber that could be too easily intercepted. The Aggressor's only true flaw in my opinion was its lack of defenses. As such, the vessel would be deployed with an escort assuming the commanders in question were remotely competent.
Several attempts were also made by the CIS to replicate the Malevolence's ship type but were mostly destroyed by the Republic before construction was complete. It may have lacked the plasma cannon the Aggressor had, but a subsequent bombardment by its many turbolasers could also have devastated a region. Its turbolasers and fighter complement would also prove to be a great defensive asset in the hands of a skilled commander, and in fact were under Grievous until Anakin's Chosen One antics came into play.
And let's not forget the use of Gold Squadron's Ion Torpedoes followed by the Lightbringer's ramming one ISD into another.
So we may not have seen too much use of ion bombs like in that episode but such technology did find plenty of use elsewhere in the Star Wars galaxy if you know where to look.

@Damien Fiester that used ww1 era planes so they had to go low and the wood from the plane sounded like broomsticks so the germans called them nackuten or night witches dont quote me on the spelling
