I loved this movie as a kid, but as an adult i can appreciate how bad it can be.
This is what got me checking books at the library on "karate"
+Brandon Howe haha me too
Which is why it had so many squeals, it embraced all it was trying to be, a fun kids movie, not a masterpiece
Gada101 as an adult i still love it
Yeah, I loved these as a kid. But I thought everything after 2 was trash. Because most of the original kids were gone. Funny how I was pretty snobby about a pretty bad series. lol
Personally I love 3 Ninjas. Are they all cheesy and not so good? Yeah but they hold a special place in my heart I grew up watching them and I still watch them as a adult
Well said 👏🏻
I love 3 Ninjas it was my favorite movie while growing up
I watched his criticism video on Space Jam and of course I disagreed. I’m aware that the movie was made from Nike commercials with Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny but it was actually perfect entertainment for kids in 1996. And I loved it as a kid then… I know it hasn’t aged all that well. But it was still a classic and way better than the pointless sequel with LeBron James in 2021
@@nsasupporter7557 what does micheal Jordan and lebron James have absolutely anything to do with 3 ninjas? What a ridiculously stupid comment
@@longjohnsilvergroghan6630 go f*ck yourself. What I was getting at was how he was criticizing 3 Ninja yet people were saying they loved it. So that’s why I brought up Space Jam, he criticized it but I loved it. I was just using it as another example of how us viewers disagree with him
The 90s where simpler times, we were in it for the fun. :D
“Simpler times?” Not as a whole. There wasn’t GPS in the 90s so it made getting to places harder. Now that there’s GPS it’s so much easier finding places you’ve never been to before
Gps is a complex technology that literally nobody could give you the correct definition to unless they were looking at dictionary. So yes, these were far simpler times. Learn how to read a map. That’s how simple it was to get around back then.
Does it make me a bad person if I fucking loved this movie when I was a kid?
Not at all. You have an opinion and you're allowed to share it.
No. You were a kid.
Not at all dude. If you said 'it was a well made movie' then yes lol but anyone can enjoy a bad film. Especially childhood films.
BY NO MEANS!!! i loved it when i was a kid too
I caught it on TV a few months ago and I couldn't help but watch about the last hour of it. (I loved Surf Ninjas as well)
I don’t know, but this was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid
“You don’t know why”
You were a kid… duh lol
when they say cake it's 90s for piece of cake which means something that is easy
Doesn't change the fact that it sounds stupid.
+Fat6amer so were the neon cloths and pretty much all lingo of the time. the same can be said for every decade. there was no decade that was absolutely perfect.
EXCUSE ME?!?!? MY DECADE OF 10,000 BC WAS A FLAWLESS DECADE! HUNTING WITH LITTLE TINY ROCKS WAS FAR BETTER THEN!!!!
3:27 I'm more focused on how the helicopter suddenly started making noise. Do they have a 'silence' button?
5:13 Uh, easy as cake?
8:49 he bends down to see the guy then punches him lol
I actually think a crossover with those two movies would be really cool, especially if they get permission from the original owners and tell the story well. By the way, did they need to get rights from 'TMNT' & 'Home Alone'?
Cake as in piece of cake.
Cake... as in... a lie
@@kyotheman69 true there, I have never once heard Cake XD
Yea the NC isn't very bright sometimes
It's not a bad movie when everyone loves it. It's cheesy but it's a good kind of cheese, lot's of fun, and very nostalgic.
In real life Ninjas often dressed as peasents, which is technixally not even a disguise as they were peasents. And in the dark they wore very dark blue, not black.
Along with this they were not trained in combat, as they were centred around espionouge. And they expecially didn't carry around Katanas. Not only were Katanas shiny and drew alot of blood, but they were also expensive and a symbol of the class that they fought against.
Most Ninja techniques involved around escape and sitracting your opponent. Shurikens were actually used as distractions rather than weapons, and when used as weapons they were used to cut at close range, not to be thrown.
The plural of ninja is ninja. Plurals don't exist in Japanese, per se.
who?
Nani?
What?
Is pluralisation really a matter of grammar? Hmm... I guess so. No one asked. They didn't need to. I like to spread knowledge.
English doesn't need to follow foreign grammar. Should we also use the plural forms for the German loans such as blitzkrieg rather than just "blitzkriegs"? No, because there are multiple forms depending on case & no one wants to figure out how to use nominatives, accusatives, genitives, and datives in a language that already has word order rules and prepositions to fulfill those grammatical needs. Why should we make an exception for Japanese?
If they can make movies and shows about Ninjas even though they didn't exist either, I guess people can use the plural 'ninjas' too.
There is an alternate scene and ending where the bullies win the basketball game and then at the end Rocky fights the bullies for the bikes back.
A really bizzare fact about this movie: The father of Max Elliott Slade ( one of the actors who played one of the 3 Ninjas), John Slade, was my English teacher in high school. In his classroom, he had a poster of 3 Ninjas hanged up.
Actually heard that line multiple times growing up.
"Cake
Ha! The early 90s was an odd era.
Before today:
Karate kid comes out in a conversation (around the time of the remake) "So did you see the original Karate Kid? Or the second one?"
Me: "Mmm I don't remember a teenager or a girl. I think I saw the third one, with the three kids with weird masks"
"Huh...."
I watched it multiple times as kid... I love it no matter how silly it is
Those three kidnappers were my favorite part of the movie.
*GASP* We've known Snyder was a villain all the way back in 2008!
This video is almost as old as the movie was when this video was made
I loved this movie as a kid. :3 So nostalgic. Still probably would love it and its sequels.
At least this was still actually an original work, rather than an adaptation, sequel or remake.
I loved this movie! In fact I credit these movies for my love of kung fu movies.
Same here. I mostly love the first 3 movies. The martial arts were always the best parts of the movie
To this day I wonder if he ever heard of the saying "piece of cake" ... of course nowadays you won't think of that when someone says "cake" XD
*cliche "Last Time I Was This Early____" comment*
Cake really is a popular urban like slang word no bs lol just means like its gonna be easy or they bout 2 win an come up
When the bullies said "Cake." They were saying it'd be a piece of cake to win the game, so it wasn't random. It was stupid, but it wasn't random.
My friends and I saw this at a summer camp field trip, and we were obsessed afterward. You have no idea how popular that “We should kick their butts!” line was, lol. I actually used to picture Splinter and the turtles in some of the early training scenes, plus the naming scene, lol. Oddly enough we didn’t make the Home Alone connection.
I only down voted because I up voted the 1st time you uploaded this.
That doesn't make any sense.... He re-uploads these old videos because they're nowhere else to be found. At least not on his youtube channel.
***** You mean the Sibling Rivalry episode? What does that have to do with anything?
***** I haven't watched that... why would that bring this id... uhm gentleman to dislike this video.
***** As was the Sibling Rivalry episode.... but for very stupid reasons like people completely ignoring what was said in the video just to be butthurt.
***** Yeah, I think most people don't even know what a SJW is.
First of all SJW does NOT equal feminist at all... That's the whole point of that term... to differentiate between extremist and idiots who tell well-meaning fanartists to kill themselves and actual activists who try to make this world a somewhat better place (not saying the "feminist community" is without fault though).
Second people take Doug's jokes waaaaay to seriously. He makes fun of the attitude people had about the new GB movie (especially the trailer) and how black and white most of the "debates" about it were. Aaaand what do the commenters do? They put Doug and Rob in one of those "catogories" (SJW and I guess "true Ghostbusters fan") even though they both made fun of the whole concept of fighting over something like a trailer and said both groups (in their extreme forms) completely ridiculous.
And finally if those butthurt idiots are gonna unsubscribe because of something so meaningless then they should stop complaining in the comments about it and just do it so Doug's true fans don't have to deal with them anymore.
I did always laugh at the surfer bully who was holding the gun in his mouth while he’s opening the chips, lol.
i loved this movie as a kid and own it on dvd as a adult. there is not a movie i have seen more than this one and would watch it again and again.
I loved grandpa in Tremors and Big Trouble in Little China - he's one of my favorite Asian character actors (along with that bad guy from Die Hard) that I remember from this era:)
god i miss the old critic
Not to defend this movie but the Home Alone traps would have actually been more ninja than anything Leo, Raph, Donny, and Mikey were doing since actual fighting was a last resort to be avoided at all costs so disarming people with traps and the like were a ninja's bread and butter.
I believe cake was supposed to mean 'sweet'. Although, that also doesn't make sense considering both are only 1 syllable.
I think were trying to shorten "piece of cake".
They were. I remember that line being used by frodo swaggins in Spy Kids 3D
Never realized that the black bully is little doughboy from boyz n the hood. Young ice cube
Maybe they meant to say Kay but messed it up and the movie didn't check that error or they really did say cake as a phrase of saying sweet but why not just sweet
Rocky loves Emily! (One of my good friends actually changed his name to Rocky when he saw this as a child the name stuck and I (one of the very few who knows) still give him shit to this day..)
Wait... Grandpa Mori's played by Egg Shen the Wizard from Big Trouble in Little China!
_Why,_ Egg Shen? Why would you give up your badass wizarding skills to be in THIS?!
The "cake" part is like saying "piece of cake". No one says that, but with society's tendency of simplifying things just for the hell of it, I don't think it's that much of a stretch.
when the bullies said "cake", they meant to use "cool slang" for "peice of cake". i would know this because i was unfortunate enough to watch to many 80's and 90's sitcoms.
"And even recent blockbusters like the National Treasure movies." I feel so fucking old wow.
Martial artists screaming before an attack is called a Kiai, it's supposed to focus your Ki.
Honestly, I kinda enjoyed this movie when I was a kid. Mostly because I had a extreme love for ninjas & martial arts movies back then and wanted to learn how to do all that cool stuff.
I'd say something about traditional ninjas not actually wearing black, but it's not like this movie actually has an inkling of knowledge in regards to Japanese history.
It might be a "rip off" but I loved the 3 Ninjas back in the day.
Apart from the one with Hogan that was shit.
I loved this film as a kid 😁😁😁
I grew up with this movie and rewatched it last night with my best friend cause they stumbled upon a VHS copy. Honestly, I love this movie, I genuinely think it's good. I've never seen the sequels but this movie is so amazingly goofy that it's beyond entertaining. Is it flawed and has numerous stupid scenes? Of course. Does it ruin the humor and fun of the film? Absolutely not. It's dumb fun in it's purest form and I love it.
All of the actors who portrayed the three kids (yes, there have been multiple actors in the roles over 4 movies), were actually very talented in martial arts.
I'm surprised you didn't hint to the fact that Snyder's character was an obvious attempt to include some "Steven Seagal Flair" 😄
3 ninjas knuckle up is actually 2nd one and kick back though released before knuckle up due to distribution issues was the 3rd one.
Inverse law of Ninja Strength; the more ninjas there are, the weaker they are. That's why the three kids could fight through a barge of ninjas.
You know, what's funny? I actually thought, that Star Wars Episode I used the design of grandpas ninja mask for Darth Mauls facial tattoos. Unfortunately you can't see the mask properly in this review. Here's a link to compare.

As far as I'm concerned with ranking the 4 movies of the "3 Ninjas" series goes:
"3 Ninjas" (1st movie): Enjoyed it as a child, but couldn't watch it anymore without cringing, and getting annoyed by the time I got to my adolescent years.
Overall rank: 2nd worst of the 4 (but just barely, as it could easily be tied for 2nd place.)
"3 Ninjas Kick Back" (2nd Movie): While not a masterpiece among live action kids cinema, it's the ONLY one of the 4 I can watch nowadays that can sometimes make me laugh, I can watch without cringing, and the only one I will defend from naysayers.
Overall rank: Without question or hesitation, the BEST of the 4 movies (1st by a landslide).
"3 Ninjas Knuckle Up" (3rd Movie): Despite being at the age where I starting to watch movies with a more critical perspective, and ultimately left confused with my thoughts towards this sub-par movie, I can AT LEAST find a few redeeming qualities in this movie's case.
Overall rank: 2nd best of the 4 movies (but just barely, as this movie could have easily been tied for 2nd place).
"3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain" (4th Movie): DDRRYYAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! Stop it! Stop it! Please! I beg you! Easily in my bottom 20 worst high budget, non-animated movies aimed towards kids, I have ever seen in my life! No doubt, the WORST of the 4 "3 Ninjas" movies! If you EVER see a copy of this shitfest of a movie (that's NOT bundled together with the first 3 movies), do the world a favor, and DESTROY that cringy piece of crap!
Have you done a video about the sequel "The 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain"?
These were some of my favorite films when I was a kid.
HATER!!! It’s for kids!!!! This was one of my FAVORITE childhood movies!!!
Real Historical Ninja didn't wear black uniforms, they dressed like common people and peasants. I don't know exactly, but I'm pretty certain that they did not use Katanas either. The Katana is the Weapon of a Samurai.
But I'm not an expert on feudal Japan, feel free to correct any of my mistakes if you wish.
Getting nostalgic from these old Nostalgia Critic episodes.
Travelers log 19: Top ten most ambitious crossovers
Isn't it funny how you can feel nostalgia about these old NC reviews. I just like the format better. The plain quality has its charm too. it feels less processed
lol i typed this 7 years ago and here i am again
eh I liked it. I can't be the only one either since it had 3 sequels. that doesn't make it good, and it's certainly not a work of art, but I found it entertaining.
+Ides Of Haven yeah the second was defiantly the best xD
I saw it when i was a kid too, and found it very cool and it was really !!!CAAAAKE!!! 😂😂😂😂 and by that time i really do want to be a freaking ninja!!! isn't that really cool and........!!!CAAAKE!! 😂😂😂😂
XRIFT CHANNELX10 yea, and I can't believe he wasn't able to figure out that "cake" is just a shorter way of saying "piece of cake", which ofcourse, means something should be easy...or at least it was when I was growing up.
i like the 3 ninja series
These movies are an abomination
Cake was short hand for Piece of Cake; which is slang for something that you are going to do that will be easy.
+Dicelord N Ham sandwhiches
Grilled cheese
I have never ever ever heard someone just say "cake".
Then play games more.
+Dave Woodard Disrespectful HOW DARE YOU
the scene with the laxatives in 3 ninjas is still funny to me.
ikr
thats the only scene i remenber from that movie,i havent watched it in a long time.
Isn't that the one where one of the guys with the surfer accent goes, "Oh dude, I gotta take a dump" or something to that effect? If so, that's the only scene I remember, too.
not the stomach not the stomach...im hurtin!!..
"Last one out closes the door!" For kidnappers/thieves, they were very courteous.
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Beat Up Macaulay Culkin" I'd totally watch that! XD!
What do you think the plot is? The Culkin character would have to be half Kraang, like April, but the difference is that he'd be loyal to his second species.
I remember going to see this in the Theatre when I wasa kid, the most memorable part being that my dad and I were the only people there, completely empty the whole movie. That was awesome for me though, because after seeing all the martial arts and eating twizzlers for a sugar high, I forwards rolled all the way down he aisles, It was great.
I saw it at the theater with my dad as well except in our case the theater was pretty packed...many kids including myself came out of the movie doing ninja moves until our parents made us all calm down.
The current Nostalgia Critic uploads are almost as nostaltic as the movies which are nostalgicly criticed.
MforMovesets lol right? Even now 2 years after this comment. I miss the old style of NC with "OF COURSE!"
@@ghostfac3182 2 years after you....its even worse
I miss the old style of NC
@@FuttBuckerson87 it's 2023 now and it got even worse
@@ELEKTROSKANSEN The guy just ran out of steam and actual nostalgic movies to review.
cake...actually was slang where I lived. it was just a lazy shortening of the phrase "piece of cake."
So is "FTW".
Hmm, since critic couldn't work this out, I'm beginning to question the validity of his other reviews.
"Cake" is popular slang for "easy", actually. Y'know, "piece of cake."
Exactly 👍
Lol yeah I was a little shocked he didn't know why they said cake
Happens to the best of us, I guess.
no. it's not. the expression is "piece of cake". no one says just "cake". at least not without someone saying "did you just say cake? what the fuck is wrong with you?" and then beating them up. Doug was right, and I'm sure he knew of "piece of cake". it's the shortened version that this stupid movie tries to make look cool that's in question, and yeah, it's dumb.
+August West I'm glad me and doug weren't the only one who thought "cake" was stupid lmao
You know what... is it a bad movie? mmm, yes, but I loved it when I was a kid!
just like how rockyluvz ehhmuhly?

@rutber2000 I'm very sorry my friend
Stuffed Cabbages is my new catchphrase.
"NOO! My cabbages!!"
he's acting like he's never heard people talk before
+Hitokiri Battousai lol. from the show avatar the airbender isn't it.
ikr. i might start using that too.
Hitokiri Battousai Avatar?
As a 90's kid, I grew up with the 3 Ninjas...It's nostalgic to kids of that decade.
True, doesn't make it not bad though. Nostalgia doesn't change quality.
So NC thinks ninjas should be blend in. Never let him watch Naruto.
I swear, the little bastard is so annoying... for The first 10 manga volumes!
+Afonso Lucas yet by the end of the series, he's literally a god.
Lets not beat around the bush. Naruto characters are just fast wizards.
the longer a manga keeps going, the stronger the main character becomes.
Except if it's for a love story, LoL !
I'd never let anyone watch Naruto if I had the chance. A shit, overrated anime.
The first TMNT movie wasn't all THAT family friendly. It was based on the comic and started being made before the cartoon was a thing, and it's full of swearing.
DAAAMN!
And somewhat strong violence.
In the 80s that was family friendly. People today are just a bunch of winny little bitches.
Yes exactly. Which is why they went downhill with the sequels. Parents of fans were complaining that the first movie was too dark and rough so they went soft with the second and third ones and ruined the franchise
@@nsasupporter7557 nah, 2 wasn’t totally ruined. It’s a guilty pleasure. 3 on the other hand…
BTW Jeffrey looks more like Jamie Lee Curtis than Rocky.
Okay, yes it is a horrible movie but you know what, my siblings and I loved it. We watched it all the time. You have no idea.
Agreed. I loved this movie when i was a kid back then and so did my brother and dad. Its cheesy for sure now, but that's only by today's standards.
yeah. It was also a safe movie to let your kids watch if parents were sick or something. No worries, and yes, I even love the sequels.
Rampage Phoenix it's a fun kids movie, not a masterpiece
So you and many others, it’s a guilty pleasure?
I don’t even think It’s horrible..Corny? Yes. But certainly not horrible lol..I love 3 Ninjas😭..Every single movie.
So the bad guy's name is Snyder eh?
Heheheheheheheheheheheheheheherheheheheherheheherhehehege....
He went on to get back at the kids by destroying their childhood by making Batman v. Superman
Rob Schneider is a villian (from S.P)
It's foreshadowing!😱
:3
I was born in 1997 and I grew up with this movie on VHS, it was probably one of my favorite movies when I was 4. I will always be nostalgic of this movie, I don't care what other people say about it.
Wow! I was born in 87 and my older sister and I rented it 1 time. I don’t remember what i actually thought of it but I can definitely say now that it’s your typical corny pile of dogshit kids movie. I never showed it to my kids. But I can totally relate to what you’re saying with Space Jam… I watched Doug’s video on that one and I could care less what he said, it’ll always have a special place in my heart because I loved it as a kid when in came out in 96. I know it hasn’t aged all that well, however it’s still considered a classic and way better than the pointless sequel in 2021 with LeBron James
me too bro 97, inwould always watch
Me too
Admittedly, these films were a part of my early childhood. I was easily entertained.
these were the best reviews
Love old school critic
OF COURSE!!!
I felt that later reviews were more in depth, and I'm not just talking about NuCritic
"Cake..." = Piece of cake.
Is it just me, or does he look younger? Loving the side borders too.
This review originally aired 8 years ago. We all looked younger then.
+DaPacMan2012 Confirmed! Doug is Benjamin Button.
:O MIND BLOWN!!!
+Pine Cone *Cough* *Cough* Full homo.
Ok look, nothing to do with your comment, but HOPEFULLY some amount of UA-cam ding will get a response.
When do ya'll think you're going to catch up on your vlogs? They are all great, very entertaining, and I know I'm not alone in loving the series. If you guys can't do them anymore, let us know... it's painful checking everyday for the hopes of something coming up!
Ninja's didn't wear black, they usually wore a kind of blue, since black would contrast against the moon.
I heard they were sometimes in disguise too.
+ArminMeiwes23 Historically, the Japanese ninja wore street cloths 5o loom like civilians, but kept most of their weapons concealed.
+Krieg Zer0 *to look
Wouldn't blue also?
they often wore civilian clothes, but when they wore the stereotipical ninja outfit it was blue rather than black.
The guy has an army of shinobi, and he sends three dimwitted surfer dudes? The fuck?!
This was one of the first movies i saw.....EVER. As a kid....i loved this movie. Its so cheesy, so corny so.......insert word here....its childhood. Great video!
As a 36 year old this is a pretty shit movie, when I was 7 it was the best thing I've ever seen!
Yeah, that’s how it is for most of us. When I was a kid, I liked adam sandler. But when I matured I realized what a loser he is and how pathetic his shit style of comedy actually is. All adam sandler movies are bullshit, ALL…. Yes, even the old ones 😉
To all of his fans who say that his newer movies aren’t funny… he NEVER was funny. He just got worse. He’s literally the biggest loser to ever make it in Hollywood
I'm almost 35 and I still love it 😂
I really want to see him do the one where they go to Japan.
9:34 tbh though he did try to choke him to death with jelly beans
02:37 "It's wrong to make fun of other people's shortcomings."
04:19 "I'm going to make fun of the girlfriend and the bullies."
I think I remember seeing this movie on VHS when one of my cousins had a birthday party in '93.
That movie was my shit when i was little
Disappointed and baffled that no one is talking about how amazingly badass of a villain Snyder was
"Parents would have a heart attack..."
Eh, it was made in 1992, man. When I was 12 (not long before that), I had legit ninja stars, bowie knives, my own hunting rifles and a hand gun and could buy martial arts weapons through adverts in comic books, no questions asked.
Kids and parents of the 80s weren't pussies, that PC helicopter parenting stuff didn't start until the late 90s, 2000s.
Loved this movie growing up and I just bought it for my kids lmao
CAKE is slang for piece of cake.
Lol does he really not know why they said cake They basically meant the games like a cakewalk Meaning that it's going to be an easy win
or that it would be a piece of cake, same meaning different cake based saying.
madestmadhatter ya or that i thought about it after i posted the comment and i was to lazy to change or add a piece of cake lol
lol true... but I think he found it confusing as they only said cake not piece of cake or the other meaning... O_o I only heard the piece of cake one
***** lol i havent herd anyone use cake walk beside once or twice and a piece of cake is a lot more common i dont know why cake walk was the first thing that came to my head and i swear i didn't make cake walk up lol look it up its a real thing

Somehow I can never forget the Asian Joker part
