@Black Opal Direct I agree it needs to have both sides visible if mounted as jewellery. My first thought was that it would look incredible mounted in the same way as the victorians made "pools of light" necklaces from spherical rock crystals. They were simple but really showed off the beauty of the stone.

Use it as the centerpiece of a simple yet elegant necklace that can be flipped to whichever side the owner would want? I wouldn’t be able to make a choice of which side for a ring, they’re both so beautiful. If I absolutely had to, it would be the brighter side that was on the back. Losing the extra carets was a difficult decision, but you took an opal that was beautiful and made it into one that is stunning. I think you made the right choice :)

Justin, that is truly the most gorgeous opal I've ever seen! The brilliant fire of all the colors is astounding! I thought you would get more per carat by making it a 2-sided stone. I'm glad you did! I imagined that stone, surrounded by gold, hanging on a beautiful chain. Beautiful. Made my heart flutter! Thank you for sharing with us! May many blessings surround you and your family! Hugs from Alabama ❤️

Absolutely stunning opal! Side #2 is my preference, that red is just precious. I have always been a rock hound, gold in quarts and semi precious and gem stones. I live in Phoenix Arizona and we have all sorts of minerals and ores. I have a friend who has an opal mine in the US state of Utah.. It's opal in clay IIRC. He has found large fully dehydrated opal crystals in decades old tailings, and he always seems to have many mason jars of big opals and water. I only see him every couple of years when he comes down to Phoenix and Tucson to sell raw opals and other gems. We'll have a pint, look at opals, and catch up. Stunning as is! You made it spectacular. Could you have used a light oil to visualize the sand spots?
